A while back you made a post talking about yakumo and his sensitivity to temperature and I haven't stopped thinking about it. imagine when winter comes around and yakumo becomes progressively sluggish, usually staying in the kitchen and not leaving for hours, always making something near the stove to feel a little warmth from the flames or from a little taste of the things he's making (soup probably), or him picking up the habit of bundling himself up and staying in the library to read and nap. maybe when it starts getting even colder he barely leaves his room because its too uncomfortably cold for him, and if he does he's probably looking for eiden to help him warm up, but if eidens not around he gets antsy and looks for somebody else in the mansion, but he's too shy to ask and looks at whoever with his wet eyes so they know he's cold and wants a cuddle

(i was about to say get OUT of the way but that would probably make yakumo colder so why not do him a favour and collide with him on your way to another room)

okay, look. I can put up with my mic getting turned off when my mini fridge runs. I can even deal with my controller turning off when I plug in a space heater, or my computer monitor turning to static whenever I stand up from my desk (even though I don't really understand it).

but what I cannot put up with, is the fact that when my mini fridge turned off just now, my firefox color scheme reset, which is something that has never happened before

what the fuck is wrong with my wiring?

man living in the countryside can suck because you're not a priority when it comes to disasters. my family had to live in a no heat, no electricity, no hot water house for two months when i was kid not because we couldn't pay the bills but because an electric line went down during a snow storm on our street and we weren't important enough to get it fixed in a timely manner.

PSA: Utilities Charge Whatever They Want

So like, if you're paycheck to paycheck, if you're having financial difficulties, pay close fucking attention to your utility bills...

Because look at this bullshit.

Guess what happened in the 61 day billing period for 9/28/2023 statement date?

I moved into my fucking house. And started running my stove/oven and then eventually my furnace.

Guess what wasn't being used in every previous billing date shown here...?

NATURAL GAS. Like literally (in the actual definition of literally) none of it. Almost had my dad going to check if there was a leak in the lines at one point over the summer because nothing was being used. But nope, it's just the gas company charging whatever the fuck they feel like, whether you've used anything or not.

CONCLUSION: Pay attention to your bills because what they do is charge you based on an estimate of what your neighbors are using, not what you actually use. If you're having financial issues, call up your utility company and tell them that you will be calling in a reading every month (because they only send a person out to do an actual reading every other month, or now, every few months with ours, and just charge you whatever they want otherwise, and adjust it later when they do an actual reading... you can see in my bill they owed me a ton of money, because $11.17 is lower than the base charge for even having the gas turned on). And at least in NYS (or my county anyway), you have the right to demand they bill you on your actual usage by calling in a reading yourself because they don't want to pay someone to go out and do it monthly (but you can be damn sure they're going to charge you monthly).

*Also note: the double-billing 61 days on top of already being billed for 35 days of presumable the same time-period, and yet still, completely nonsensical invoice when you click on it. Their numbers come out of their ass.

You definitely can buy extension cords and power strips designed to handle high current flow. They're just generally more expensive, bulkier/bigger, and heavier, because they have thicker wire and more insulation.

But if you don't know FOR CERTAIN that something is rated for high current, absolutely don't use it with anything that needs a lot of power! That's definitely a major fire risk!

The wiring inside the walls matters, too. If you have a power strip rated for 30 amps, but you plug it into a wall outlet wired for 15 amps, you're still limited to the 15 amps of the outlet (try to draw more than 15 amps and you'll just trip the circuit breaker [best case] or cause a fire inside the walls [worst case, which we have circuit breakers specifically to avoid]).
