Chapter Sixteen
Tumblr media
I wake up from a nap in the backseat somewhere along the winding roads of county Laois. I’m not usually one to fall asleep while upright in moving vehicles, but something about the gentle rise and fall of the hills and the sway of the roads has lulled me into a shallow sleep, my head resting against the window of Shane’s Fiat Punto. It’s peculiar to be in this car without Kelly, usually she’s perched up the front with her brother giving out to him about something, but now Claire is up there instead, her voice gentle and sweet as they chat to each other, and I never join in the conversation. He’s got some CD playing through the speakers in the back and as I listen to the melodies I picture a version of myself just hours from now, standing in the crowd listening to indie music like this.
Tumblr media
When we pull up to the festival car park, Jude and the others are already there. They have their tents and bags on the dry grass at their feet and are huddled around their car talking excitedly about something. When I see them there I kind of wish I’d come with them instead, I bet theirs was the Fun Car.
Tumblr media
“Hey, we got you all tickets for the shuttle bus.” Says Jen as we start to haul our gear bags and camping equipment out of the boot, and she comes over to help us. “Wow this is a lot of stuff.”
“I went overboard in the camping shop.” Claire admits. “I didn’t know what to bring so I just bought loads of random things.”
“It’s okay, we’ve got our four mules to carry everything.” She grins at the boys and Kasper rolls his eyes. “Give me those” He takes two heavy tents out of the boot, lifting them like they’re bags of feathers and tossing them over his shoulders. Shane takes the folding chairs and the cooler and some of Claire’s bags, and then Jude and Joe grab the rest.
Tumblr media
“I can carry that too.” Jude says to me, nodding towards my bag as we head down towards the bus stop, but I shake my head. “No, you have enough stuff, I can manage it.”
He reaches out and takes it from me anyway.
“Thank you.”
“No problem.”
Tumblr media
It takes a while to set up our tents, mostly because nobody wants to do it. Joe immediately unfolds one of the camping chairs and parks himself into it and before anybody can call him on it he has opened up a can and is guzzling it down, hat on, mucky-runner-clad feet stretched out in front of him, and with the backdrop of the festival stages behind him in the distance he looks like a magazine ad for Glastonbury or something. It doesn’t take long for everyone else to get tired and confused by the various tent poles and tarps and remembering which part goes where, and eventually we give up and watch Shane do it. He assembles each one of the tents with military precision and efficiency, one after the other like he’s some sort of robot and then announces that he’s going to have one of the tents all to himself as a reward.
Tumblr media
“Can I stay with you?” I say to Claire, even though it was sort of unspoken already that we’d be together, I can just tell by the look on her face that she’s thinking about what it might be like if she could stay with Shane instead.
“Yeah, of course.” She says, and we start carrying our bags into the tent next to Jen and Jude’s. I consider what it will be like to be so close to him at night time, only two thin walls of nylon dividing us, and for some reason it’s thrilling to me. We napped together only a couple of weeks ago, but that’s different. There’s an unpredictability in the air here, like something is so static and electric that the little hairs on my arms almost stand up. I think it’s the feeling that I’ve never felt less supervised in my entire life. It’s just me – us – among a swarm of strangers on these enormous grounds, and it feels like anything could happen and nobody would ever know about it.
Tumblr media
The ground is vibrating with the sounds of deep bass music and in the distance the sounds of forlorn indie music floats up towards the clear summer sky. Jen starts smoothing the wrinkles out of the festival schedule she had in her pocket and announces that Fleet Foxes have just started. Everyone seems excited, so I pretend to be too even though I’ve only vaguely heard of them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When we follow the music down towards the main stage I am intimidated by the size of the crowd. I’ve never been to a live concert before, and I don’t really know how to behave normally among all of these people, each one of whom seems infinitely cooler than me. I sort of stand awkwardly at the very back for a minute because I can’t see any clear path towards the front, and then I realise that everyone else is just elbowing their way through.
“Come on.” Claire holds her hand out to me, her fun festival bangles jingling on her wrist, and I take it as we follow the others. We use Jude’s head as a guide, because he’s so tall that it’s pretty easy to see him, and we bump and shuffle our way through all the people, not all of them too pleased about it, until I can reach out and touch the cool metal barrier. There are too many people blocking the very front though, clinging on to their spaces for dear life, and they keep shouldering me backwards whenever I try to break in. I’m stuck. I can’t see anything but backs, and somebody nearby smells really strongly of sweat. I’m feeling a sudden jolt of panic. Claustrophobia creeps in as I realise how difficult it would be for me to escape the heaving crowd if I wanted to. A girl in a leather jacket elbows me in the ribs and tells me to move out of her way. I can’t see Claire any more and I begin to frantically search through the mass of unfamiliar faces.
Tumblr media
“Evie, up here.” It’s Jude. He’s wrangled a spot right at the front, and he grabs my hand to pull me closer to him. “Come on, you can stand here.” He makes space for me right in front of him, and it’s just enough so that I can squeeze between him and the barrier. “Are you alright?”
I nod. His hand rests on my shoulder, warm and steady, and I feel like it’s anchoring me. I’m slightly disappointed when he takes it away to hold his arms up and cheer for the band, but still, it’s as though his body is acting like a shield to protect me from the swirling crowd behind him and I take the tiniest of risks and lean back against his chest. He doesn’t stop me.
Tumblr media
The five guys on stage are such hipsters, and their music is okay, but it’s kind of slow. I don’t even realise that Jen is beside us until she leans over to me and asks me if I’m enjoying the band. I tell her that I am, because I remember seeing one of their CDs in Jude’s bedroom, and I worry that he might think I’m out of touch if I don’t ‘get it.’ Which I’m not sure I do. Perhaps I am out of touch. My knowledge of the indie scene is sadly lacking, and I imagine how embarrassing it would be if either of them got a sneak peek of my sad CD collection at home. It’s all Rihanna, Kesha, JLS, all music I bought because Kelly said it was cool, but now I’m not sure how to define what cool is anymore.

Excerpt from this story from Environment America Research & Policy Center:
Each year, more than 490,000 school buses shuttle children back and forth across the United States –to school, field trips, sporting events and more. As most of these buses burn diesel fuel, children and drivers are exposed to harmful pollutants that are linked to asthma, other health issues and cognitive development problems.
Conversely, electric school buses have zero tailpipe emissions, and therefore offer a cleaner, healthier alternative to diesel buses. This report finds the number of these zero-emission vehicles are growing in school districts around the country, thanks in part to big investments from Congress and states to transition to electric school buses.
The Inflation Reduction Act sets aside $1 billion to fund the transition to zero-emission heavy duty vehicles including zero-emission Class 6 or Class 7 school buses via the Clean Heavy Duty Vehicles (CHDV) Grant Program. This program was open to other heavy duty electric vehicles in addition to Class 6 and 7 school buses, including dump trucks, transit buses, delivery trucks and others. Applications for grants opened in April 2024, and the application period closed in July 2024.
In addition to the EPA’s monumental investment in the transition to electric school buses, states from across the country have adopted legislation of their own to support school districts in replacing older diesel buses with cleaner electric ones.

When Boubacar Touré and his flatmates heard a sudden, thundering crash beside their apartment, they thought it was an earthquake. But then they opened the windows of their kitchen, where they were cooking dinner, and one shouted: "A bus has fallen."
"We ran down to the spot where the bus was on fire and I heard a woman screaming, 'My baby, my baby,'" 27-year-old Boubacar, who is from The Gambia says, his eyes heavy with exhaustion.
"I managed to pull her through the window and then pulled out her son, who was badly burnt but still alive."
The bus, carrying tourists back to a nearby campsite after a day in the historical centre of Venice, had been driving along a busy overpass when it suddenly careened off the side on Tuesday evening. It smashed through the barriers and plunged several metres towards a railway track where it burst into flames.
At least 21 people died. Of the 15 who are injured, most remain in intensive care. Some of the victims were children, including a baby.
Warning: This story contains descriptions of distressing scenes
Among the dead are nationals from seven countries, the Venice mayor's office says, including Ukraine, Germany, Romania and Portugal.
Boubacar describes how he grabbed the fire extinguisher from the bus to help quell the flames - but that wasn't enough.
"Passers-by were giving me other extinguishers but nothing helped, we had to wait for the firefighters", he recalls. "So I pulled others to safety, a woman and a man and a child. People were bleeding from their heads, there was so much blood."
His flatmate, Odion Eboigbe from Nigeria, was with him, pulling others through the wreckage of the mangled vehicle - an electric-powered bus whose batteries are thought to have caught fire.
"We were able to save many but unfortunately others died", he says.
"I wasn't scared, I didn't think of my own safety because I saw people with their heads split open. Today my colleagues asked me: 'what were you thinking when you went towards the flames,' and I told them I just had to save the women and children."
Once emergency workers arrived, they spent hours dousing the flames and helping the injured.
The fire was so intense that DNA samples will need to be used to identify some of the dead.
At the spot on the overpass where the bus took its final catastrophic turn, the guard-rails are smashed apart and fragments of glass lie on the tarmac. A passer-by has laid yellow flowers.
Authorities say there was no sign of a sudden braking by the bus. Indeed, CCTV from the moment before the crash shows the vehicle steadily climbing the overpass and then apparently slowing down before inexplicably toppling against the barriers and off to the side.
The driver, Alberto Rizzotto, had worked for the bus company for seven years. The most likely cause, say the authorities, is that he had a sudden medical problem that made him lose control. In his last Facebook post, he said he was "running a shuttle to Venice."
Relatives of the victims have started arriving in Venice from abroad. Among the injured are nationals of Ukraine, Germany, Croatia and Spain.
According to local media, they include two German brothers, aged 7 and 13, who lost both their parents. There were "entire families, grandparents, grandchildren, spouses" on board, said Chiara Berti from the Angelo di Mestre hospital.
The tragedy has already raised questions about the state of the barriers on the overpass, which were clearly rusting and aged.
Domenico Musicco, the head of an association for road accident victims, called it "a tragedy foretold".
"Italian road maintenance is poor. Too little is invested in road safety. It is estimated that 30% of accidents are down to that," he told the news agency AFP.
Venice has declared three days of mourning for a tragedy that has profoundly shaken this city.
Boubacar and Odion say they haven't slept since the crash.
When I put it to them that some would call them heroes, they shrug. "If saving people makes you a hero, then maybe", says Boubacar.
"But when somebody needs help because they're dying, you can't just walk away."

Enjoy the Game, Skip the Hassle: Sporting Event Transportation in Southwest Florida
Attending a sporting event transportation in Southwest Florida is a thrilling experience. The excitement of the crowd, the roar of the fans, and the anticipation of the game create an electric atmosphere. However, the journey to the venue can often be a source of stress, particularly in a busy area like Southwest Florida. This article explores various transportation options available for sporting events in this vibrant region, ensuring you can focus on enjoying the game without the hassle of getting there.
Tumblr media
The Importance of Planning Ahead
When it comes to attending a sporting event, planning is key. The excitement can quickly turn into frustration if you find yourself stuck in traffic or struggling to find parking. By organizing your transportation in advance, you can alleviate many of these concerns. Consider factors such as the location of the event, the time of day, and the expected crowd size. These elements will help determine the best transportation method for your needs.
Popular Sporting Events in Southwest Florida
Southwest Florida is home to a variety of sporting events that attract both locals and tourists. From baseball games to soccer matches, there’s something for everyone. Popular venues include stadiums for the local Minor League Baseball team, professional soccer matches, and various college sports events. Understanding the schedule and nature of these events can aid in planning your transportation needs effectively.
Transportation Options
Personal Vehicles
Driving your own car to a sporting event can be convenient, especially if you prefer flexibility in your schedule. However, consider the challenges associated with this option. Parking can be limited and expensive, particularly for high-profile events. Additionally, traffic congestion can lead to delays, causing you to miss the beginning of the game. If you choose this option, arrive early to secure a good parking spot and allow extra time for potential delays.
Ridesharing Services
Ridesharing services have become increasingly popular for event transportation. Companies offering ridesharing provide a convenient alternative to driving. Simply request a ride through an app, and a driver will pick you up and drop you off right at the venue. This option eliminates the need for parking and can often save time. However, be aware of surge pricing, which can increase fares during peak times, especially before major events.
Public Transportation
Public transportation is another viable option for getting to sporting events in Southwest Florida. Many cities offer bus and shuttle services that can transport you to major venues. This option is often economical and environmentally friendly. Check local transit schedules to find routes that align with your event's timing. While public transportation can be a great way to avoid parking woes, be prepared for potential delays and crowded conditions, particularly during busy events.
Shuttle Services
Many sporting venues and local businesses offer shuttle services to and from events. These shuttles can provide a seamless experience, transporting fans directly to the stadium from various pick-up points. Often, these services are offered at a reasonable rate, making them an attractive alternative. Ensure to check in advance for shuttle schedules and pick-up locations to plan your trip effectively.
Carpooling
Carpooling is an excellent way to share the experience of attending a sporting event while minimizing transportation costs. By coordinating with friends or fellow fans, you can reduce the number of vehicles on the road, making it easier to navigate traffic and find parking. This option not only makes the journey more enjoyable with good company but also helps reduce your carbon footprint.
Accessibility Considerations
When choosing your mode of transportation, consider accessibility needs. Many sporting venues offer designated parking for individuals with disabilities. Additionally, public transportation options may have accommodations for those requiring assistance. If you or someone in your group has specific needs, it’s essential to verify the available services ahead of time to ensure a comfortable experience.
The Role of Technology
In today’s digital age, technology plays a significant role in enhancing your transportation experience. Various apps provide real-time information on traffic conditions, public transportation schedules, and even parking availability. Utilizing these tools can help you make informed decisions about when and how to travel to your sporting event. Additionally, many ridesharing and shuttle services have user-friendly apps that simplify the booking process.
Tips for a Smooth Experience
To ensure a hassle-free experience when attending a sporting event, consider the following tips:
Plan Ahead: Don’t wait until the last minute to arrange your transportation. Determine your options early and make necessary bookings.
Check the Weather: Weather can impact travel times and comfort. Be prepared for changes in conditions, especially during Florida's rainy season.
Arrive Early: Give yourself plenty of time to navigate traffic and secure parking or catch public transit. Arriving early allows you to soak in the pre-game atmosphere.
Stay Informed: Keep an eye on updates related to your event, including any changes in transportation services or venue policies.
Consider Alternatives: If one form of transportation seems too complicated or stressful, be open to exploring other options. Flexibility can often lead to a better experience.
Conclusion
Experiencing a sporting event in Southwest Florida can be a memorable occasion filled with excitement and camaraderie. By carefully planning your transportation, you can skip the hassle and focus on enjoying the game. Whether you choose to drive, use ridesharing, take public transit, or opt for shuttle services, there are numerous options available to suit your needs. With the right preparation and awareness, you can ensure a smooth journey to the venue, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the thrill of the game. So gear up, gather your friends, and get ready for an unforgettable sporting experience without the transportation stress!

Our English teacher gave us an assignment to prepare a set of interview questions to ask to someone whom we admire the most in class and write down the answers. My friend chose to interview me.
1. How do you usually begin your day?
I wake up at 6 in the morning or 6:30 if I'm feeling tired. Then I go to the bathroom, freshen up and do yoga for sometime among other exercises too. I used to practice yoga infrequently since a long time but started doing it consistently since last month and I've realised it makes me feel energised and ready for the day in the morning.
2. What is your definition of success?
This is a good question, as success may mean different things in the perspectives of different people. Success for me is doing things in life that fulfill me, my being. Fulfillment, I think, is doing what fulfills you, it doesn't require you to be execeptionally good at it. You enjoy it no matter how proficient you are at it. For example, I love painting among many things related to art. I have done quite a handful of paintings, feeling so joyful seeing the vibrant, colorful liquid paints stain my arms and clothes. Almost all of them didn't turn out very good, but nothing could beat the joy I felt during the process. Now if I'm asked to give an answer concerning my future - though I don't think of it all too much- I'd like to learn some skills like graphic designing, or UI designing and do projects for clients through remote freelancing. Then travel the world and learn different cultures, meet and make friendships with a lot of people, many kinds of people, learn about their lives and perspectives, eat different foods from different places, go on little adventures to less explored places, listen to lost stories about kingdoms and tragedies from local people, and all that jazz. This is what sounds like success to me, as it checks out all my boxes for knowledge, friendships and adventure.
3. What is a thing that you're grateful for?
There are many things I'm grateful for in general. Like the comfort of my home and surroundings, good climate, and all that. But there is one thing that I'd be grateful for my entire life no matter how grim things get. Friendship. The ones that I once had but now are too far away or whom I lost connections with, ones that I've had for years and are still going strong, ones that ended too early, and the ones that I made only a short while ago. What I've realised when I looked back at every single one of the friendships I've had and adored is that all of them have taught me something. Playing badminton with my 3rd grade best friend till we hardly let the shuttle touch the ground, the 7th grade girl in my school bus who narrated me the story of Harry Potter with so much interest that led me to become a fan of the series for years, the three girls I became friends with in 4th grade who made me feel normal at a new school in a different state where everything seemed unfamiliar, my cousin whom I hadn't talked to in years lifted me up from the darkest of places and made me fall in love with rainbows and colors again, the four girls from 9th grade who stole my heart with their genuinety and love that makes me realise how lucky I am, the boy I started talking to in 9th grade who taught me passion as he taught himself electric and acoustic guitar and practiced every till skin on his thumb peeled off and then later also became interested in cinematography and started making beautiful clips, and the two girls I just met in 11th grade who have soft hearts, tough boundaries and great thoughts and make me learn negotiation and light-heartedness. All of this makes my heart fill with gratitude that I'll carry in my blood forever.
4. What is your priority in life?
My priority in life, since safety comes first, is to be able to stand on my own legs early on and become financially secure so that I can support my mom and help my friends when something happens. Peace of mind and a cool, chill but adventurous group of people to surround myself with is also included
5. Can you share an experience that changed you as a person?
Here's a small anecdote about what happened just a few days ago. Me and my friend whom I go home with walked to the bus stop further away from school every day so that we could get a seat. That day, we saw the bus had reached the bus stop before we got there and couldn't catch up in time. It was the bus we boarded everyday to go back home so we were quite frustrated in the beginning. Then I said,"Well, new adventure! Let's do it for the plot!". She too nodded enthusiastically. We boarded a rickshaw and got off at the junction and got on a bus to Kaloor half a minute later. While on the bus, sitting on the frontmost seat next to my friend with a view of the entire road, I thought to myself how easily this could've made me bitter and regretful the whole way home. I could've beaten myself up for going to the further stop instead of the nearer one or just because it was out of my routine. It was unfamiliar. But instead, I saw the opportunity to live that evening in a different way. On a bus that I haven't boarded before, with seats and interior similar to a tour bus, we talked and enjoyed the ride. We got off the bus when we reached Kaloor, the stop from where we either need to catch another bus if there is any or walk home. My friend said it would be nice if there's Navas, the bus that we missed, at this bus stop since there had been a lot of traffic. I quickly walked over to the green bus standing at the front and saw the name 'Navas' written on its back. Instantly calling over my friend saying she was right, we got on it from the back entrance, from where we don't usually get on the bus. Making our ways to the front, we realised the bus wasn't so crowded as it usually is and laughed to ourselves, thinking that the evening was fun nevertheless. The life we could've lived is on the other side of the imaginary confines of how it should be lived.
6. What is your perspective about life, and how do you look at life?
Life. This is one of the most open ended questions ever in my opinion. The answers can vary from a shrug to a whole philosophical session. For me, it is a teeny tiny bit of the latter. When I was young, I achieved a zonal gold medal and international fourth rank in the SOF english olympiad. But instead of celebrating it, I was encouraged to achieve something more, something better. Now when I look back to it, I have realised that almost everyone that I have seen treats life like a transitory period. You are a kid? Complete graduation. Graduated? Get a job. Got a job? Go higher and aim for a promotion. What's next? What's next? Goals are essential to have, of course. But oftentimes it leads us to procrastinate living life the way we want to till said goal is reached. If you are in college, seeing the time period between college and getting a job as something you have to 'go through' till you can finally be happy. But this never ends. You just keep postponing your happiness. Living in the future, when all you can see, touch and feel is the present. Life is what you live right now. Not where you will be in ten years or twenty. Stop running away from life in the pursuit of an imaginary future. The significance of your life must not be placed upon a particular career or status. Those, I believe are just foundations to keep you afloat. Life is less about wasting time caring what other think of your choices and more about travelling and exploring the world you were born into. To meet many and all kinds of people. Be kind, compassionate, open and listen to them and their stories. How do they see the world? What have they seen? Their cultures, their creations, their aspirations. This world is filled with interesting people, places, dishes, and unheard histories. Untold legends locked away in time would be told to those who listen. And you don't need to go halfway across the world for this. Taking a public transport and making conversations with random people you find interesting will open your eyes to how many diverse experiences you will get hear from people who live in the same city. Kind of like scuba diving, you just need to get out of your head and dive head-first into life. After all the greatest legacy to leave is a life well lived.

The 6B07 Newsletter (Issue 3, 2024-08-24)
Welcome again to the 6B07 newsletter, courtesy of your elected representative to Advisory Neighborhood Commission single member district 6B07, Vince Mareino.  If you don’t want to get any future emails, just reply "unsubscribe".
School News
Our two DCPS schools, Watkins and Payne, will start the new school year on Monday, August 26.  Watkins’s Principal Berkowitz asked me to let you know that the school is adjusting the drop-off and pick-up protocol, in response to our concerns that last year’s policy wasn’t safe for pedestrians.  Morning drop-off and aftercare pick-up will now revert to the old system, where any drivers dropping off kids should use the DDOT-designated spots on 12th St SE.  The 3:15-3:30 pick-up will keep using the controversial system of requiring parents to fetch their kids from the football field.  However, the school is going to ask drivers to park on all four sides of the school instead of encouraging them to crowd their cars onto E St SE.  The school is also going to have staff stand at the intersection of 12th & E and prohibit cars from driving eastbound on the 1200 block of E St SE from 3:15-3:30.  My assessment is that this won’t be as safe as the good old days when the DC government provided shuttle bus service, but it should be a heck of a lot safer than the 2023-24 school year was.  Neighbors, let me know what you see, especially after the inevitable first-week jitters wear off and parents learn the system.
Payne is in the process of finishing up an ambitious gardening project.  I know a lot of people have been complaining that, for most of the summer, 14th St SE has had a malarial puddle of muddy water, while 15th St SE has been so dry that some bushes have died.  But they’re working on it, and I’m expecting it’ll look great in a month or so.
Gardening News
An invasive species, the spotted lanternfly, has the potential to harm a lot of local plants.  If you’ve seen any, please contact DDOT Urban Forestry!  The contact form – along with photos and other helpful info about the spotted lanternfly – can be found at https://trees.dc.gov/pages/invasive-species-spotted-lantern-fly .
Home Repair News
The new DC Dept of Buildings, which took over housing permits from the DCRA, is trying to make it easier to get permission to do simple home repairs like repairing your porch, installing new outlets, or replacing gas appliances with electric ones. Many of these repairs can be done with a “postcard” permit, which usually cost $33.  What you might not know is that you can get these postcard permits in a couple minutes without getting out of your pajamas – just go to https://dob.dc.gov/node/1616046 .
Driving Safety News
DDOT plans to rebuild 8th St SE, just like how they rebuilt Pennsylvania Ave SE, to make it safer and easier to use for drivers, pedestrians, bikers, and especially bus riders.  ANC 6B has worked with them on the first planning phase, and now they’re entering the proposal phase.  Read more at https://buspriority.ddot.dc.gov/pages/8thstse or attend the ANC 6B Transportation Meeting at 7 pm on Sept 4th.

Smart Solutions for Airport Transportation in Hawthorne
As the world becomes increasingly connected, the demand for efficient and reliable airport transportation in hawthrone has become more crucial than ever. Hawthorne, California, a vibrant city situated near the greater Los Angeles area, has recognized the importance of providing its residents and visitors with smart transportation solutions for the Hawthorne Municipal Airport. In this comprehensive guide, we'll explore the various innovative and eco-friendly options available to ensure a seamless and hassle-free travel experience.
Tumblr media
Ridesharing and Carsharing Services One of the most prominent smart transportation solutions in Hawthorne is the widespread adoption of ridesharing and carsharing services. Companies like Uber, Lyft, and various car rental providers have established a strong presence in the city, catering to the needs of both local residents and airport travelers.
Ridesharing services offer a convenient and on-demand option for getting to and from the airport. Travelers can simply download the respective mobile app, request a ride, and be picked up directly at the airport terminal. These services often provide real-time tracking, transparent pricing, and the ability to rate and review drivers, ensuring a consistently high-quality experience.
Carsharing services, on the other hand, allow individuals to rent vehicles for short periods of time, often by the hour or day. This model is particularly useful for those who need a car for a specific errand or to explore the city during their stay. Many of these services have designated pickup and drop-off locations near the airport, making it easy for travelers to access a vehicle upon arrival or before departure.
The integration of ridesharing and carsharing services has revolutionized airport transportation in Hawthorne, providing travelers with more flexibility, convenience, and cost-effective options compared to traditional taxi or shuttle services.
Public Transportation and Multimodal Connectivity In addition to private-sector transportation solutions, Hawthorne has also invested heavily in its public transportation infrastructure to enhance connectivity to the airport. The city's comprehensive bus network, in conjunction with the extensive Metro rail system, offers a sustainable and economical option for travelers.
One of the key features of Hawthorne's public transportation system is its seamless integration with the airport. Strategically placed bus stops and Metro stations provide direct access to the Hawthorne Municipal Airport, allowing passengers to easily navigate between the airport and their final destinations using a combination of buses, trains, and potentially even ridesharing or carsharing services.
To further improve multimodal connectivity, the city has implemented smart infrastructure, such as real-time travel information displays, mobile apps, and integrated payment systems. These advancements empower travelers to plan their journeys, track the status of public transportation, and pay for their rides with a single tap or swipe, reducing the hassle and uncertainty often associated with public transit.
By investing in a comprehensive and interconnected public transportation network, Hawthorne has positioned itself as a leader in sustainable and accessible airport transportation solutions.
Autonomous and Electric Vehicles As the world moves towards a more environmentally conscious future, Hawthorne has embraced the integration of autonomous and electric vehicles into its airport transportation ecosystem.
The city has partnered with leading technology companies to pilot autonomous shuttle services that transport passengers between the airport and designated drop-off/pickup locations. These self-driving vehicles not only reduce the city's carbon footprint but also provide a unique and innovative travel experience for passengers.
Furthermore, Hawthorne has actively promoted the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) by installing a network of charging stations throughout the city, including dedicated stations at the airport. Travelers can now seamlessly charge their electric or hybrid vehicles while they wait for their flights, contributing to the city's broader sustainability initiatives.
The combination of autonomous and electric transportation options in Hawthorne demonstrates the city's commitment to creating a greener and more technologically advanced airport experience for its residents and visitors.
Smart Parking and Traffic Management To enhance the overall efficiency and convenience of airport transportation, Hawthorne has also invested in smart parking and traffic management solutions.
The city's airport parking facilities feature advanced technology, such as real-time availability tracking, mobile payment systems, and automated guidance systems. Travelers can easily locate available parking spots, reserve their spaces in advance, and pay for their parking seamlessly using their smartphones or digital wallets.
Furthermore, Hawthorne has implemented intelligent traffic management systems that utilize sensors, data analytics, and adaptive signal control to optimize traffic flow around the airport and surrounding areas. These systems can detect and respond to changing traffic patterns, adjust traffic light timings, and provide real-time updates to drivers, helping to reduce congestion and ensure a smoother travel experience.
By leveraging smart technology, Hawthorne has created a more efficient and user-friendly transportation ecosystem that caters to the needs of both airport travelers and local residents.
Conclusion Hawthorne's commitment to providing smart and innovative transportation solutions for the Hawthorne Municipal Airport has positioned the city as a leader in the field. From the widespread adoption of ridesharing and carsharing services to the integration of public transportation and multimodal connectivity, the city has demonstrated its dedication to creating a seamless and eco-friendly travel experience.
Furthermore, the integration of autonomous and electric vehicles, coupled with the implementation of smart parking and traffic management systems, showcases Hawthorne's forward-thinking approach to transportation. By embracing these technological advancements, the city has not only improved the overall travel experience but also contributed to its sustainability goals and environmental preservation efforts.
As the world continues to evolve and the demand for efficient and environmentally conscious transportation grows, Hawthorne's innovative solutions serve as a model for other cities aspiring to create a more connected and accessible airport transportation system. By continuing to invest in smart and sustainable transportation initiatives, Hawthorne is poised to remain at the forefront of airport transportation innovation, providing residents and visitors alike with a hassle-free and eco-friendly travel experience.

Transportation From Budapest Airport: Your Guide to Getting Around
Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport (BUD) serves as the main gateway to Hungary’s vibrant capital city. Whether you're visiting for business or pleasure, navigating your way from the airport to your destination in Budapest can be a smooth experience with the variety of Transportation From Budapest Airport options available. Here’s a comprehensive guide to help you choose the best way to get around.
Airport Shuttle Service
One of the most convenient and cost-effective ways to travel from Budapest Airport to the city center is by using the airport shuttle service. The miniBUD shuttle operates 24/7 and offers door-to-door service, making it an excellent choice for travelers with lots of luggage or those arriving at odd hours. You can book a ride in advance online or at the airport upon arrival. The shuttles are comfortable and provide a hassle-free way to reach your hotel or any other destination in Budapest.
Public Transportation
Budapest's public transportation system is efficient and affordable. The 100E airport bus service is a direct connection between the airport and Deák Ferenc Square in the heart of the city. The buses run every 20 minutes from early morning until late at night.
Alternatively, you can take bus 200E from the airport to Kőbánya-Kispest metro station, where you can transfer to the M3 metro line that takes you into the city. Regular public transport tickets (350 HUF for a single ride) are valid on this route.
Taxi Services
For those who prefer a direct and private mode of transportation, taxis are readily available at the airport. The official taxi service at Budapest Airport is provided by Főtaxi. The taxi stand is located just outside the terminal, and you can expect a ride to the city center to cost between 7,000 and 10,000 HUF (approximately 20-30 EUR), depending on traffic and your exact destination. Főtaxi operates under fixed rates, so there are no surprises when it comes to the fare. Always use licensed taxi services to avoid scams.
Car Rentals
If you prefer the freedom of driving yourself, several car rental companies have desks at the airport, including international brands like Hertz, Avis, and Europcar, as well as local providers. Renting a car can be a great option if you plan to explore beyond Budapest. However, be mindful of traffic rules, parking regulations, and the cost of parking in the city center. It's advisable to book your car in advance to ensure availability and to get the best rates.
Ride-Sharing Services
Ride-sharing apps like Bolt and Uber (known as UberGreen in Budapest) are also popular choices for getting from the airport to the city. These services can be booked through their respective mobile apps, offering a convenient and often cheaper alternative to traditional taxis. Ride-sharing can be especially useful during peak times when taxis might be in high demand.
Limousine Services
For a more luxurious and comfortable ride, consider booking a limousine service. Companies such as City Limousine and Limo Budapest offer premium vehicles and professional drivers. This option is ideal for business travelers or those who want to start their trip in style. Rates vary depending on the type of vehicle and the level of service required.
