Introduction to Electric Kick Scooters: Everything You Need to Know
Tumblr media
Electric kick scooters have become increasingly popular in recent years as a convenient and eco-friendly way to get around. They are easy to ride, portable, and can help you avoid traffic congestion. In this article, we will provide an overview of electric kick scooters, including how they work, the benefits of using them, and how to choose the right one for you.
What are Electric Kick Scooters?
Electric kick scooters are two-wheeled vehicles that are powered by a battery-operated motor. They are similar to traditional kick scooters, but they have a motor that allows them to travel at speeds of up to 15 mph. Electric kick scooters are typically foldable and lightweight, making them easy to transport.
How do Electric Kick Scooters Work?
Electric kick scooters are powered by a battery-operated motor. The motor is located in the wheel hub or the deck of the scooter. When you press the throttle, the motor is engaged and the scooter begins to move. Electric kick scooters have a range of 5-15 miles per charge, depending on the model.
Benefits of Using Electric Kick Scooters
There are many benefits to using electric kick scooters. They are:
Eco-friendly: Electric kick scooters do not produce any emissions, so they are a great way to reduce your carbon footprint.
Convenient: Electric kick scooters are easy to ride and can be used to get around town quickly and easily.
Portable: Electric kick scooters are typically foldable and lightweight, making them easy to transport.
Fun: Electric kick scooters are a fun and enjoyable way to get around.
Choosing the Right Electric Kick Scooter
Choosing the right electric kick scooter can sometimes feel overwhelming, thanks to the vast selection available in the market. But don’t fret! With a bit of planning and consideration, you can find the perfect scooter for your lifestyle, mobility needs, and budget. Here's a detailed guide on things to think about.
Factors to Consider Before Buying
Firstly, it’s crucial to assess your needs and preferences. Consider where you'll be riding, the kind of terrain you'll encounter, how far you plan to travel, your budget, and whether you need a portable model. Remember, safety should be the topmost priority, followed by convenience, speed, and style.
Weight Capacity and Size
Electric scooters come in various sizes, each designed to accommodate different weight classes. Some models can support heavier riders, while others are made for lighter users or children. It’s imperative to check the scooter’s maximum weight capacity before purchasing to avoid undue stress on the scooter, thus ensuring longevity.
Battery Life and Range
A scooter’s battery life and range are crucial elements to consider, particularly if you intend to use it for commuting over long distances. A longer battery life means a longer range and less frequent charging needs. However, remember that the range can be influenced by factors like road type, rider weight, and weather conditions.
Speed and Power
Speed and power vary significantly among electric scooters. An average electric scooter ranges between 15 to 20 mph, which is ample for most users. However, some High-Speed Electric Scooter end models can reach up to 40 mph. Keep in mind, though, that higher speeds demand more power, affecting the battery life.
Suspension and TiresFor smooth, comfortable rides, consider the scooter's suspension and tire type. Scooters with suspension and pneumatic (air-filled) tires offer the smoothest rides, particularly over rough surfaces or off-road paths. Tire size is an additional point to contemplate – bigger tires offer more stability.
Foldability and Portability
If you plan to carry your scooter in a vehicle or need to store it in a small space, consider its portability & Foldable electric scooter. Not all scooters offer this feature, and the folding mechanism can vary significantly.
Types of Electric Kick Scooters
Different types of scooters cater to different riding needs.
- Commuter Scooters: These are ideal for city dwellers in need of a daily commuter vehicle. - Off-road Scooters: Perfect for outdoor enthusiasts, these are typically sturdier and can handle rough terrains. - Dual-purpose Scooters: Perfect for both on- and off-road riding.
Budget Considerations and Options
Lastly, consider your budget. Electric kick scooters range widely in price, from relatively inexpensive models to high-end variants with advanced features, longer battery life, and higher speeds. Remember, investing a bit more upfront for a quality scooter can save you in potential repair and replacement costs later on.
By keeping these guidelines in mind, you can find the electric kick scooter that's perfect for your needs. Happy scooting!
Electric kick scooters offer a fresh and exciting way to zip through city streets while contributing to a sustainable future. By understanding the fundamentals of electric scooters, considering your specific needs, and adopting proper safety practices, you can confidently embark on your electric kick scooter journey.
So whether you're looking to reduce your carbon footprint, save on commuting costs, or simply enjoy the thrill of electric-powered transportation, an e-scooter might just be the vehicle of choice for you

There's a lot to be said for Electric cars. They're heavy, somehow unreliable, massive hunks of steel and toxic chemicals by design AND necessity, sometimes very fast, serve as status symbols for the insufferable, and are known for intermittently ramming into people and other cars. When you really look at it, the electric car is as distinctly American as Apple Pie, the Chevy Small Block, and smiling at strangers on the street.
Yet many commentators overlook the most American aspect of electric vehicles: Tax Evasion.
See, despite the hefty annual registration you pay to put a sticker on your license plate each year, the real road tax for most automobiles is exacted on each gallon of fuel burnt. It's only fair, as heavier cars tend to use more fuel, meaning the vehicles that are harder on the roads and the people that use them the most will on average pay more to repair them.
You can see now how EVs throw a wrench in that equation. Not only do they weigh as much as half a dozen Honda Citys (INCLUDING the Motocompo foldable scooter), but they don't use a lick of pump gas while auto-piloting backwards off the nearest overpass.
The Federal Government is doing its darndest to make sure EVs make up the bulk of daily commuters within the next [TIMEFRAME GOALPOST MOVED TO TEN YEARS PAST CLIMATE APOCALYPSE], and local municipalities are facing the prospect of repairing roads on reduced budgets while these ion-fueled freeloaders erode the asphalt further with their multi-tonne zero-emission smugness machines.
Previously I was the one with a near-local monopoly on evading fuel tax, thanks to my advanced E85 brewing setup made from a lapsed whiskey still I found in the woods and my personal recycling enterprise (stealing used cooking oil from fast food greasetraps, fighting the raccoons for access to the greasetraps, training the local possums in counter-raccoon tactics, fighting rogue possum factions for access to the greasetraps, enabling a cycle of inter-mammalian violence so that I can fill the tank on my $200 300D wagon).
Now the municipalities are talking about "reporting mileage" and "Paying $400 yearly for infrastructure upkeep." This is what EV owners would define as an "Externality," another very American ideal.
In the long run this will probably help me. Most of my odometers are broken, and even if they aren't, the average mileage on one of my cars is 15 miles, 17 if you count the time I had to roll it backwards down a hill and push it into my garage. It's just the principle of the thing, I say, fending off another well-armed possum militia dead-set on acquiring my remaining catalytic converters.

Hiboy S2/S2R Plus Electric Scooter Review
The Hiboy S2/S2R Plus Electric Scooter has quickly become a popular choice for urban commuters and casual riders alike, thanks to its blend of performance, convenience, and affordability. Below is a detailed review of the scooter's features, performance, and overall value.
Tumblr media
Design and Build Quality
The Hiboy S2/S2R Plus boasts a sleek, minimalist design that is both stylish and functional. The frame is constructed from durable aluminum alloy, ensuring it can withstand daily wear and tear. The scooter has a clean, modern aesthetic, with a black matte finish that adds to its appeal.
One of the standout features is the foldable design, which makes the scooter incredibly portable. Whether you're hopping on public transport or storing it in a small apartment, the Hiboy S2/S2R Plus can easily fold down to a compact size. The locking mechanism is sturdy, providing confidence that the scooter will remain secure when folded.
Performance
Equipped with a 350W motor, the Hiboy S2/S2R Plus offers a top speed of 19 mph (30 km/h). This speed is sufficient for most urban environments, allowing riders to keep up with traffic or breeze past it during rush hour. The acceleration is smooth, and the motor provides ample power to tackle small inclines without straining.
The scooter features two riding modes: Normal and Sport. The Normal mode conserves battery life while still delivering respectable performance, making it ideal for leisurely rides or longer commutes. The Sport mode unlocks the full potential of the motor, offering a more thrilling ride for those who crave speed.
Battery Life and Range
The Hiboy S2R model features a detachable battery, a significant upgrade over the standard S2. This feature allows users to swap out the battery on the go, effectively doubling the range without the need for a lengthy charging session. The standard battery provides a range of up to 17 miles (27 km), depending on the terrain, rider weight, and speed mode.
Charging the battery takes around 4-6 hours, which is fairly standard for electric scooters in this class. The detachable battery can be charged separately from the scooter, offering added convenience for those with limited charging options.
Ride Comfort and Safety
Ride comfort is enhanced by the solid tires, which are puncture-proof and maintenance-free. While solid tires can sometimes lead to a rougher ride compared to air-filled ones, the Hiboy S2/S2R Plus compensates with front and rear dual shock absorbers. These absorbers effectively dampen vibrations and bumps, providing a smoother ride on uneven surfaces.
Safety is a top priority, and the Hiboy S2/S2R Plus doesn't disappoint. The scooter is equipped with a dual braking system: an electronic brake at the front and a disc brake at the rear. This combination ensures responsive stopping power, even in wet conditions. Additionally, the scooter features a bright LED headlight, taillight, and side reflectors to enhance visibility during night rides.
Technology and Features
The Hiboy S2/S2R Plus is packed with smart features that elevate the riding experience. The LCD display on the handlebar provides real-time information on speed, battery life, and riding mode. The scooter also connects to the Hiboy app via Bluetooth, allowing riders to track their rides, customize settings, and even lock the scooter for added security.
Another notable feature is the cruise control function, which allows riders to maintain a constant speed without holding down the throttle. This is particularly useful for longer rides, reducing hand fatigue and making the journey more enjoyable.
Pros and Cons
Pros:
Solid Performance: The 350W motor offers a good balance of speed and power for urban commuting.
Detachable Battery: The S2R model's removable battery allows for extended range and easy charging.
Portable Design: The foldable frame makes it easy to carry and store.
Safety Features: Dual braking system, LED lights, and reflectors enhance safety.
Comfortable Ride: Dual shock absorbers and solid tires provide a smooth ride on various terrains.
Smart Features: The LCD display, app connectivity, and cruise control add convenience and customization.
Cons:
Limited Range: The 17-mile range may not be sufficient for longer commutes without a second battery.
Solid Tires: While puncture-proof, they can lead to a slightly rougher ride on very bumpy roads.
Charging Time: A full charge takes 4-6 hours, which might be inconvenient for frequent riders.
Conclusion
The Hiboy S2/S2R Plus Electric Scooter is an excellent choice for those seeking a reliable, feature-rich scooter for urban commuting. Its combination of performance, portability, and smart features makes it a strong contender in the electric scooter market. While the range may be a limiting factor for some, the detachable battery in the S2R model offers a practical solution. Whether you're a daily commuter or a weekend rider, the Hiboy S2/S2R Plus delivers a smooth, safe, and enjoyable ride at a competitive price point.

This , I had a couple of stokes so I got chucked a vaguely customised (think 1 fitting appointment with the NHS people) paediatric manual wheelchair ( 💀 it's been in the garage since I got better enough not to be constantly accompanied (about 6 months after) they won't take it away ) , my grandad bought me a cool looking mobility scooter which I am so grateful for but , it can't fold it can't go on trains and the controls are on the right side (stroke side ) which means I struggle to use it when my hand is being a pain , what would have been much more useful would have been a power / electric foldable wheelchair ,
Also I got a rollator and some sticks and they are great because my balance is shit (if you message me I will paint a stick for you) but the rollator is better ,
if youre considering using a mobility aid, youre probably thinking about getting a cane. even if it seems like youre issues arent bad enough, you should probably still consider other mobility aids. please look into the pros and cons of several different mobility aids, especially in conjunction with your specific disability/diagnosis/needs.
i got a cane at first because i thought my issues were "mild" and therefore i needed a "mild" mobility aid. but canes are moreso for stability than support. i damaged my wrist and worsened my scoliosis by deciding to use a cane without an educated opinion.
i now use forearm crutches primarily, a rollator for longer outings, and a wheelchair for worse days and longer events. dont make the same mistake as 16-year-old me. dont choose your mobility aid based on palatability, consider your needs and address your internalized ableism if need be.
