Finally finished this school doodle from about a week ago :3

I loveeeee Eldritch Ralsei's design and personality, and I actually just love Eldritchrune by @lynxgriffin! I 100% recommend going to check Eldritchrune out, but if it's darker story isn't your cup of tea, then any of their other arts and stories!! My favorite of theirs is Dogs of Future Past, which I hopefully plan on drawing for soon :D!!

I MADE A COMIC DUB

I'm sick right now and I wanted to make something but writing and drawing weren't cooperating, so I dug out this old recording I had of me doing a dub of an Eldritchrune comic and made a video out of it. Sorry about the audio quality, I don't have a proper mic.

I am not a voice actor, I can't do character voices, and I have no idea what I'm doing lol. I'm just here to have fun.

thinking about dess and gaster and GOD i just love the idea of him doing his damnedest to help her because he sees himself in her and doesnt want her fate to be anything more like his gimme eldritch father figure who will bend the universe to its fucking KNEES for his adoptive kid(s)

and by adoptive kids i'm including ralsei and chara

he certainly would not be a perfect parent in his shattered state but by GOD he will try for them

RALSEI DOES N O T LOOK LIKE THAT

(Deltarune theory)

Tldr: Ralseis "unmasked" self is indeed a costume. He does NOT look like that. It is a costume to better suit his "role" and distract or earn the affection of the player.

One of the most jarring things about ralsei to me is his appearance. No, I don't think ralsei is asriel, yes I know they're anagrams. Ralsei is special. He's THE prince of the dark. So tell me please, why the hell does he look like your average boss monster from the light world. You'd think the "prince of the dark" would look kinda...dark? Nah he's white and pink with bashful eyelashes. I call bullshit on that. Look at this guy

I just can't bring myself to believe this is what he looks like. But, I think we do know what he does look like.

Behold our prince of the dark. "No no he took off his hat at the end of chapter 1! He's casted in shadow that's why he looks like that!" I hear you. But we've seen THIS version of ralsei without his hat already

No hat, still a black, less "boss monster " looking creature. We've also seen his "unmasked" self in multiple outfits, including hats. None of which shade his entire body to make his fur appear black.

Now, I understand maybe this was all to not allude to his "true" white fluffy appearance until it is revealed at the end of chapter 1. But I can't accept that. His silhouettes are completely different in each design.

Things like his horns, his height, the shape of his legs and feet and the fur on his face. That stuff shouldn't change if its just being taken out of the shadows.

I propose this. Ralsei has changed form to appease us(the player). It goes without saying that ralsei knows more than the other characters in the game. Infact, many would go as far to say as he knows he's IN a game.

Here comes the theory crafting. I believe ralsei has been told to take this shape. We can infer that ralsei has not been around long. Even if he has, he's been EXTREMELY secluded. His whole life has led up to meeting kris and Susie and carrying out his role in this story. I do not by any means think ralsei is evil. I do believe he is slightly mislead. He has likely chosen to or been told to shift his appearance to be cuter, fluffier, more approachable. He's the cute one after all.

If difficult for me to word this. I have such a specific view of deltarune and how meta I view it to be. I can however offer up an amazing video essay that helped me form my opinions and ideas for ralsei. I highly recommend it, and if you've read this much, you might as well watch it.

It has really interesting insight on ralseis character and has takes on him I haven't seen any body else have.

Conclusion

While I think it would be an amazing reveal, we won't know more about ralsei until the full game is released. If my theory is wrong, that's alright. Because I have fun imagining ralsei as a slightly skrunklier eldritch creature than an asriel look alike. And maybe some of you will adopt my "theory" or headcannon. Either way, I do think ralseis appearance will be addressed in the future. So until then, we'll see.

Also ralsei will definitely be one of the final bosses

oh boy more ralsei thoughts, hope you like those

i see some stuff with ralsei being used for horror sometimes. i kind of get it, because ralsei IS very much unstable, but i do take issues with the execution.

one form of ralsei horror is the idea of him being "yandere." this doesn't work for me. while yes, ralsei is desperate for the love and attention of lightners (kris in particular) he thinks of himself as beneath. he is weak, his life holds no significance outside of serving a higher power, he possesses no free will, stuff like that. the idea of forcing someone to stay with him against their will, and abusing them into loving him, is something he just wouldn't do, let alone could do. while ralsei doesnt enjoy being left alone or mistreated, he's very good at crushing these feelings. all fear is buried, all resentment turned inward, all sadness distracted from. on top of this, even if ralsei lacks a developed sense of right and wrong, ralsei believes that doing harm to a lightner is one of the wrongest things he could do. in a sense, Ralsei is a Puritan. he's not a misogynist, but he believes that he and all his fellow darkners are born into a meaningless and sinful life, and that they can only find meaning and be cleansed by serving their gods. he suppresses all his individuality, and is rude to people he thinks are "bad." for ralsei to act selfishly and maliciously towards his gods would be massively out of character for him, since even thinking about doing that sort of thing would have him hating himself.

another strain of ralsei horror is... i guess eldritch horror? the idea of ralsei as a mindless puppet of a malicious entity, who does horrifying things with a sweet smile on his face, like some sort of siren luring you into a trap or something. this is inaccurate to canon ralsei, but i think it could work, since ralsei would like to be thist. he possesses free will, and is capable of doubt and regret, and he hates that. ralsei's ideal self is perfect and obedient, never doing wrong by whatever higher power he follows (lightners or the prophecy), doesn't think, doesn't doubt, and is always happy. whether or not the power he serves is malicious, ralsei would absolutely choose to become a mindless drone if he could, and even when he possesses free will, he encourages others to pursue this as well, and this is where the horror comes from. one day you might see him and he's not himself anymore, and he might try and make you like that too. even then, even as just himself, there's a demon inside him that wants him to destroy himself and become an empty husk that serves obediently, a demon placed there by trauma, broken ideology, and fantasical narrative. he's effectively been brainwashed, and the horror comes from the idea that one day he might fully succumb to that. it doesn't help that this ideology literally tells him "being obedient to lightners is the only way to be happy."

sorry if these thoughts are disjointed.

as a finshing note, mindless drone ralsei WOULD imprison and manipulate you on orders from a higher power, because he's incapable of deeper connection or internal conflict. if you didnt want to obey the prophecy, he might lock you up until you agree to help, but at the same time he'd be smothering you with love and affection and indoctrinating you into his cult, because you're a lightner. and that's legitimately scary. normal ralsei wouldn't do that, especially not now, since he's growing as a person. he likes and cares about kris and susie beyond them being lightners and delta warriors. he wouldnt want to lock them up, and even if he tried to indoctrinate them, he'd feel guilty and ashamed over it, and he'd care that they were upset with him. mindless drone ralsei wouldn't feel conflicted, because under his rigid programming, he hasn't done anything wrong. he's treating the lightners well, and even if they're upset with him, he's ultimately doing the right thing because the prophecy is the ultimate moral good, and he's just helping them onto the right path.

Reconnecting- maybe the player doesn't want to control someone ok? They're reasons for that

Ink Ralsei- story about a Ralsei who lost everything and tries to protect the multiverse

Missing souls- Asriel and December goes missing after traveling to their college

Angel's Game- The player and frisk strike a deal

Doormaker- sans gets involved with the fun gang, especially devil and spamton!

Redeemer's path- The player leaves Kris to a new vessel but things still aren't resolved

After a truly miserable experience, Kris is revived back in Ralsei's castle and can take a bit of a breather. Maybe some forbidden arcane knowledge can solve their problem!

What do you think would happen if you played a song that you can’t comprehend? Would you just not hear it? Maybe if you change it slightly you’d be able to hear it?

Um... well, I would hear it! It might not even hurt me. Umm...

...this is just a guess, but if I'm right about that song I can't perceive being from UNDERTALE's interface, then that would explain the limitation, haha! If you try to make me perceive that reality the way that you PLAYERs do, it would be impossible. I, um, already have trouble understanding that world as someone who actually lives within it might. Since my own reality is based on it, it's so significant to those who exist in my own reality to the point of being almost incomprehensible!

I can hear my own soundtrack though! Um, but only the song specific to Castle Town. It's been looping for most of my life, haha...

If you sent me an arrangement of that song, or a cover, I, um, might be able to hear it... I'm guessing that the limitation might only exist for the exact forms of the songs that you hear as PLAYERs? If I'm right, I should be able to comprehend those songs if presented in another format.
