Something very >:) about Drolta branding white vampires and making their asses kneel to do it is poetic.
Can she have a twin in season 2? 😭

so glad the writers and directors of castlevania listened to fan feedback and gave Drolta a bigger focus in season two AND made her the big bad like i was riveted by everything about her story. she even managed to make erzsebet more interesting by association, seeing her grieve drolta’s loss (when I frankly don’t think drolta would’ve done the same at that point) was actually really cool. and seeing the differences in their relationships to sekhmet is so so interesting— one driven by a hunger for power vs one driven by pure fanatical love and devotion. drolta spent centuries as a willing servant, it was her life’s work before she was turned, and her casting that role aside as she finally decided that she was the one most worthy of wielding sekhmet’s power was such a satisfying and natural conclusion to her arc. having that power ripped away so callously by the one she spent her entire existence worshipping was genuinely really sad to see, that she doesn’t understand what she did wrong, why she was being punished after everything she did. and then the final part of her battle, all the grief and rage and fear spilling out of her as she sinks into her monstrosity, oooohhh it was soooo fucking satisfying. what a fucking character, kudos to everyone who brought her to life and a special shout out to Elarica Johnson for such a showstopping performance, easily managing to hold her own next to an iconic voice like James Callis as Alucard. I’d go so far as to say her performance is on par with Adetokumboh M’Cormack’s performance as Isaac, and extremely close in quality and emotion to Graham McTavish’s performance as Dracula. Absolutely stellar work on her part.

Episode two and....Drolta backstory! We're off to a great start!
Amazing voice work by Elarica Johnson here. Took me a moment to even recognize Drolta.
Okay I feel the need to point out that khopeshes fell out of use over 2000 years before this episode was set, but given that it's a temple to Sekhmet long after her worship is meant to have ceased it's possible it's ceremonial. I'll let it slide, just this once.
Oh that is a WONDERFUL use of the starry sky beyond the blood drenched statue of Sekhmet as Drolta chooses to become a vampire to reclaim her goddess' body. Primal, brutal, beautiful. A sacrifice of body and mind.
"Turns out all sorts of people will buy an ancient corpse". Oh, just wait a few decades when Egyptomania hits, then we'll REALLY start desecrating corpses!
