Lord of the rings X druid!reader headcanons
Legolas x reader, Thranduil x reader, Gandalf x reader (platonic), Merry/Pippin x reader (platonic), Elanor x reader.
Legolas
🧚♀️ Legolas is very curious and excited! He wants to know EVERYTHING about you and what you can do!
🧚♀️ But he finds the fact that you can turn to different kinds of animals the most interesting, and asks you a lot of questions about every animal you can transform too.
“Y/n what is that for an odd creature?”
“It’s a seastar”
“A STAR!??” 🤩
🧚♀️ Asks you if he can touch you in your animal forms. He lights up with happiness when you say ‘yes’ and touches you with utmost care and curiosity.
🧚♀️ Loves carrying you around in your smaller forms. If you turn to a snake he’ll put you around his neck like a necklace, a bird on his head or any other animal that can be on his shoulders.
🧚♀️ When the fellowship was in the snowy mountains and while the others had to walk in the deep snow, you were a little mouse in Legolas warm pocket. Not needing to do anything and Legolas didn’t need to worry about your safety. Win-win.
Thranduil
“I thought the druids died out for 4000 years ago, guess i was wrong”
🍷 Like Legolas he is very much interested but in a more calmer and quieter way. He also likes the animal shapes more.
🍷 He likes when you turn to a little bird and sit on his shoulder whenever he goes to different places.
🍷 LOVES when he sits on his throne and you turn to a smaller animal and sit on his large hand and put your tiny paws on his fingers- the king has heart eyes. 😍 (yes you are his pet now lol) And he totally would feed you grapes too.
🍷 Other than that he also likes your plant and flower abilities. He has left the garden's beauty to you and it is shining more beautifully than it ever has since you came into his life- or perhaps it is just (amazing) you who has grown beautiful and colorful flowers in his heart❤.
🍷 And of course he will try out some of your abilities in the bedroom 😉
Gandalf
🧙♂️ Sorry Frodo, Sorry Bilbo, y/n is his number one favorite friend now!
🧙♂️ He is very fascinated over your elemental abilities. Wind, water, fire, plants/trees? “What can you do?”
🧙♂️ Gandalf would try (hard) to not sound too eager and excited when you show him. But he can’t help but smile and laugh when you make a phoenix appear out of the fire.
🧙♂️ Might show you his ‘magic’ if you ask nicely and you will inspire one another.
🧙♂️ If you have any difficulties with your training and elemental controlling he will give you advice and guidance with what he knows.
🧙♂️ Gandalf wouldn't mind if you join him for a while on his journey. He greatly enjoys your company.
Merry/Pippin
🤡 Oh no! OH NOOO! Gandalf will pray to god ... .PLEASE DON’T LET THE WORLD END!!
🤡 When they learn what you are, they will storm you with questions. They will drag you with them for every little prank and misery they are planning.
“Y/n, can you turn to bird and poop on someone's hea-” (pippin)
“No!”
“Can you poop in someones drin-”
“No!”
“Can you-”
“ENOUGH WITH THESE POOP REQUESTS!!!!”
🤡 If you meet on the ring quest, they will ask you to turn to a larger and fluffy animal, like a bear so they can sleep with (on) you on cold nights (like the bear in jungle book? Yes!) Boromir will get jealous because you stole his children. 😢
Elanor Brandyfoot
🐌 The others don't trust you and don't want you around until you show them how quickly you can turn seeds to flowers.
🐌 Elanor will try to calm them down and talk to them so they don’t ‘use’ you for their ‘food greed’.
🐌 You two will have a contest of who is quickest to fill a bucket with berries, buuut of course Elanor wins.
“Looks like ya powers weren't able to outmatch me!”
🐌 She loves to see your abilities and is very happy that others like you too and have accepted you to the group, but she gets a little jealous when you get too much attention because she wants to be alone with you too!
🐌 She loves the evenings when things have been calming down and laying under the stars with her head on your (larger) animal form. Petting you is very calming for her and she mostly falls asleep like that with you.
Thank you for reading! I hope you like it! 💖

I love how pro active the women of TRoP are and how integral they are to the plot. Each with her own distinct personality and motivations, they influence the events around them through their actions, big or small, in whatever capacity they can. Their struggles feel believable and their perseverance, despite the adversities, feels heartening.
Galadriel was single mindedly committed to her mission of hunting Sauron and while her hunch about danger looming over Middle Earth was eventually proven correct in end, she paid a price for her oversight whose consequences are going to be grave. Miriel took a risk as a leader by coming to the aid of the Southlands but wasn't exempt from casualties.Bronwyn, on her own, couldn't have won against the Orcs and she needed and obtained outside help for it but she did whatever was in her power to resist. Nori was pulled out of her simple life by the Stranger's arrival and understood that she's part of a bigger picture; she embraced it as an opportunity to learn and experience something new. Both Disa and Eärien, moulded by their environment and circumstances, have exhibited streaks of ambition in different degrees which will eventually manifest under different conditions.
All of them feel so.............real.

Nori: This: dead tree. You: wizard with magic rejuvenating powers. Me: famished. Have at it.
The Stranger: The last time I tried this, someone nearly got crushed by a falling branch and I was exiled.
Nori: *deploys her big auld 'Harfoot Eyes'*
Nori: *it is very effective*
The Stranger: ...fine, but please get out of the potential blast range.
Nori: You're being paranoid-

I decided to watch Rings of Power and I still like it! General thoughts on the first episode:
This episode does a lot of heavy lifting to introduce everything in a somewhat rough and often disconnected, but engaging enough way.
The voice-over exposition at the beginning is obviously echoing the PJ FOTR one, but it's more awkward and sort of generically high fantasy. I still like it better because a) no Númenóreans were harmed in the making of this voice-over, b) retaining the Finrod-Galadriel age gap while simultaneously leaning into their sibling bond is really cute, c) Finrod using a heavy-handed metaphor in which the greatness of SHIPS figures largely seems entirely in character and also very Telerin (Eärwen's son!!!), and d) the overall story of how Valinorean Elves ended up in Middle-earth is so highly editorialized that it feels like the self-serving Noldor version of the story, which amuses me.
I enjoyed the introduction of present-day Galadriel. She's clearly the most impressive and competent person in the company she's leading while also being kind of unhinged, which I appreciate in a female protagonist. Good for her.
And I like that she's clearly this ancient being and her fixation on FIGHTING EVIL FOREVER is, in part, a product of being old and immortal and stuck in a singular mode of being. However, she's also right and the comparatively young people around her are being condescending assholes (like Gil-galad, but especially that one guy who semi-mutinied against her and is prodding her on the ship).
(Oh, and she has great hair. I actually don't care if the entire wig budget went to her specifically.)
The only one who seems to really feel bad about their dismissive treatment of her is Elrond, which tracks. The hints that he isn't seen as quite an equal ("Elf-lords only") feels silly, but it's not a huge deal for me. And I like that he and Galadriel are bros alongside the tension in her relationships with basically everyone. S2 Celebrían plssss
I still think the complaints about costuming/hair, and incessant comparisons to costuming in PJ!LOTR/WOT/whatever are largely pretty absurd. I particularly liked Arondir's armor and how dissimilar it is from the aesthetic of the Lindon Elves, everything Galadriel wears, and the weirdness of the ritualistic armor removal as they approach Valinor. The Elves spontaneously bursting into unsettling song was odd but extremely on-brand for Tolkien, so it was fun to see it actually done onscreen.
I also think the show is quite beautiful in general and a pleasure to simply look at (no, not only because of the budget).
I don't like how heavily and visibly made-up the main female characters are, however, especially Bronwyn (who also has my least favorite costuming of any of the mains tbh). It reminds me a bit of how Padmé Amidala's heavy and perfect make-up in her death scene in Revenge of the Sith always distracts me from the pathos of the scene. God forbid she wasn't hot as she died, you know? I don't care about middle-aged and older men being cast as Elves, but I'd like to see more older actresses, too!
The Harfoot stuff has an interesting mixture of cuteness and underlying menace. It doesn't interest me as much as what's going on with Galadriel, Elrond, and Arondir/Bronwyn, but I like Nori quite a bit and the whole aesthetic they have going, so I don't mind spending time with them, even though it's kind of detached from what's going on everywhere else.
Speaking of Arondir, the Southlands stuff is interesting because there's so little to work with in terms of canon (even if they had rights to everything) and the canon that does exist wrt them is super racist. So having the textual racism towards Southrons actually be brought up in-story, and rejected by an Elf protagonist who is being played by a Black man, is like ... there's a lot going on there and other people are probably better equipped to talk about it.
Personally, I would have liked to see Arondir fall in love with Bronwyn rather than being presented with it as an established thing, especially with the conversation about how this almost never happens etc. His actor does a great job with what he's given, though, and I laughed at the other Elf who is like "do you know how rarely romances between Men and Elves ever happen? do you know they always END TRAGICALLY?!"
Arondir: mmhmm
Other Elf: THEY DIED, ARONDIR
Arondir gives off big "distracted by drawing hearts around Bronwyn's name in his Trapper Keeper" vibes in that conversation and, idk, it was just really entertaining to me.
Bronwyn herself is all right thus far. I did really like the moment when she's talking about how she's from the allegedly creepy village and the people there are her relatives and friends. By and large she seems the most normal person in the cast, honestly.
I also enjoyed how deeply ominous the "approaching Valinor" music was, lmao. A bit overkill by the end, but I rather like the idea of Valinor being scary if you're not supposed to be there.
ETA: cutting between the different plots via the Middle-earth map is a bit silly as well, but functional enough. Interesting to see Calenardhon on the map before Gondor even exists!

okay but i really don't understand all the hate lotr the rings of power is getting so here is what i love about it (after three episodes):
all the different kinds of love and relationships - romantic affection, friendship, family, community - there is strength in connection to others
arondir. (+bronwyn) when he told her "i have said it already. a hundred times over, in every way but words." - as someone whose love language is acts of service, this hit me hard
the perfect trio: durin, disa, elrond - they already made me laugh, cry, you name it
disa - love her, she's incredible
elanor brandyfoot & "i know i am not special, but he is. i can feel it" - i cried because she is special. her bravery and big heart and how she treats others is so needed in our world
númenor. - listen, i fell in love with aragorn first and oh god, the fact that we get to meet his ancestors now? isildur? elendil? yes please
the cinematography - i think i'll always be in love with every shot of th & lotr and now also rings of power
elrond - i haven't really gotten attached to him, but seeing him in rop portrays him in such a different light & it's so fun to see that!
elendil - i feel like i will get more attached to him, too. there's still so much to discover about him!
the plants!! - the tree in númenor, the berries the harfoots were eating and also the tree durin grew that was a gift from elrond? everything is so pretty
which reminds me of all the pretty tiny details: the fireflies, the stars, the elf ears!
i'll probably add more once i've seen more!

Thinking about how Nori Brandyfoot crept through flames that did not burn her to reach out and touch the Stranger, who clung to her hand while he howled in distress and the earth shook and broke into pieces around them; though she was afraid, she looked into his eyes, and what she saw there meant she did not wrench herself free to escape, but rather clasped his hand within both of hers.
And about how Galadriel, having anchored herself, reached out to Halbrand even as the heavens and waters raged about them, urging him to take her hand and bind himself to her; when lightning knocked her from the raft he dived after to draw her from the depths, when they reached the surface she offered him her hand once more to draw him up from the sea, and he clasped her hand in his.
And none of them knew that this joining of hands, this connection to another soul, would rule the fate of many.
