I am going to the philippines for about a month is there any places you would recommend. For the first two weeks we'll be based in manilla and then we might visit some other places in the country.
hi! sorry for answering this late. I'd like to say that Metro Manila is certainly not on the list of places I would recommend for tourists 😅 I love this city, it’s my birthplace and hometown, but I personally think the Philippines is best experienced outside of the capital.
still, since you say you're staying here for two weeks, these are the places around the metro that you can visit:
If you’re into art and museums:
National Museum of Fine Arts / National Museum of Natural History - they're close by each other so it’s possible to visit in one day
Ayala Museum - love their exhibits and dioramas
Pinto Art Museum - best for contemporary art; 1-2hrs from Manila depending on traffic
If you’re into culture and history:
Binondo Chinatown - oldest Chinatown in the world. pretty cool melting pot of chinese, filipino and western cultures. cheap food.
Intramuros – if you want a taste of the country during our Spanish colony era (NOTE: try to look for tours of Binondo and Intramuros so you’ll get the full experience and context into our history)
If you're into the nightlife
Poblacion, Makati
BGC
If you’re into shopping
Glorietta
Greenbelt
Mall of Asia
SM Aura
Greenhills
outside of Metro Manila, there's a loooot (and I mean, A LOT) of places to visit because we literally have 7,000+ islands lol. these are, I would say, a few of the easier ones for tourists to go to and enjoy:
Palawan – crystal clear waters, hidden lagoons, seafood. the landscape views here are BREATHTAKING, I swear you won’t regret it. go to either Coron or El Nido if you do choose to visit.
Siargao – lovely, laidback island globally known for surfing. the people and vibe here are perfect for those who would like to take a step back from the daily grind.
Bohol – white beaches, adventurous activities, natural wonders. you can find the Chocolate Hills and the Tarsier (also known as the world’s second smallest primates) Sanctuary here
Cebu – this province is huge so there’s lots of things (diving, whale shark watching, canyoneering: you name it) and islands to go to.
Boracay - okay, so this is perhaps the most popular beach destination here, so it's definitely more expensive than other places. the upside is it's also more developed and tourist-friendly (the nightlife on the island is great!)
there are pristine beaches and magnificent views here almost everywhere you go, and all the places I listed above are ripe with those. the Philippines is beautiful, and I hope you're able to discover even a portion of that beauty during your stay. enjoy your trip here!
*all photos in this post are NOT mine, i just stole them from google lol. credits go to all their respective owners*

Island 4: El Nido
The final island. Whilst waiting in the airport to fly to our final destination I recieved a text to say our accommodation had messed up and could we stay in there sister hotel. We said yes, but when we arrived it was aweful. No windows in the room. No air con and on the main street where bars are open until 4am. We quickly agreed we couldn't stay there and the only place available was the double gem resort with a pool on the beach. Ok that will do. We grabbed a tuktuk there and never looked back.
The beach was the perfect one to watch the sunset. Get a massage and leave for boat tours. It all worked out for the better. El Nido was one of my favourite places. There was so much to see and do.
We went on a boat trip where we saw turtles! Kayaked in the most exquisite lagoon. Ziplined from one island to another. Did a canopy walk which was 100% unsafe but had great views at the top. Got 2 massages, a few cocktails and the most amazing food choices. We went back to the same restaurants because there vegan menu was delicious after all the rice we had been eating.
Amazing trip and I would defintley go back. It's nice to know I'm going back to NZ summer though so I can't complain. I wonder where 2024 will take me.

Solo Travel: El Nido, Palawan
April 24 - April 28, 2023
DAY 1
Actually arrived at NAIA Terminal 3 (Ninoy Aquino International Airport) 6 hours before my flight. 5:30 AM kasi yung flight ko, and since I was traveling alone, my parents told me na mas okay bumyahe ng mas maaga, balak ko kase sana mag Grab papuntang airport ng 2 AM. I arrived at the airport ng mga around 12 AM. I self-checked in, got my boarding pass. Nagutom, kumain sa McDo, then waited.
I arrived in Puerto Princesa around 8 or 9 AM.
I booked Emerald Travel Agency, so may sumundo sakin (Van) sa Puerto Princesa airport. Bumyahe na ulit from PPS to El Nido. 5 hours ang byahe. May mga stop over naman. I ate lunch pagka stop over.
I arrived at El Nido around 3 PM. Sumakay akong trike (tricycle) papuntang hotel.
My accommodation was in Desert Rose Hotel, in Corong-corong El Nido. I love the place! 10/10! Very quiet and peaceful. I also love the room that they booked me in. My bed was adjacent to a glass sliding door balcony. Beachfront din siya. Very accommodating and sobrang babait din ng owner.
I hang out there. Ordered potato wedges and a mango shake, I swam and took pictures and videos. Around 5 or 6 PM I ordered pizza. I went back to my hotel around 7 or 8. Ni-take out ko na lang yung pizza na hindi ko naubos sa Lime Resort. I went to my room, took a shower, hang out at the balcony, eating the pizza and reading the book na dinala ko. Pagod pa ko sa byahe from Manila to El Nido kaya I decided na wag na muna pumuntang bayan, besides may island hopping tour ako ng 8 AM kinabukasan. So by 10 PM I ready myself to sleep. Nag alarm ako to make sure na hindi ako malate sa breakfast ng hotel and may susundo sakin para sa island hopping, para makapag ready pa ko.
DAY 2
I woke up 7 AM, sakto hahahahaha. Di naman ako na-late sa breakfast, they served it sa balcony ng room ko. Kinailangan ko lang mag madali kumain at mag ayos kase by 8 AM may susundo sakin.
I ate breakfast and wore my swimsuit.
Tour B yung first tour ko.
We went to
Cathedral Cave
Cudognon Cave
Snake Island
Pinagbuyatan
Entalula
Sobrang thankful kay kuyang tour guide! Ang galing kumuha ng pictures and videos. Kahit na mag isa lang ako nag travel to El Nido nakakuha pa din ako ng mga decent pictures and videos.
Sobrang sarap pa ng lunch huhu. Di ko napicturan yung lunch nung first tour tsaka second tour.
I also made a friend. A family, pinay and German yung husband and mother in law niya, kasama yung 4 years old nilang anak na lalaki.
After ng island hopping, I went back to the hotel, showered, got ready to go out. 4 or 5 PM ata natapos yung island hopping. I went to the town proper. Nag gala gala ako, daming kainan, pumili lang ako ng kainan, I decided I want fries and pasta. So I ordered, carbonara and fries and banana shake. After I ate, nag libot lang ulit ako, went to a bar, had a couple of drinks, hindi masyado kase yun nga, mag isa lang ako and I don't want to be wasted, may island hopping pa ulit ako kinabukasan. Bumili din ako ng t-shirts pang souvenir. Around 10 or 11 PM, I went back to my hotel.
DAY 3
Woke up around 6 AM, got ready para di ako gahol ulit pag sinundo. Para chill lang pag antay. I ate my breakfast as usual. Wore my green one piece swimsuit.
Tour C yung second tour ko
Hidden Beach
Matinloc Shrine
Helicopter Island
Talisay Beach
Small Lagoon
We couldn't go to the Secret Beach kase nagshu-shooting daw yung Survival Philippines dun.
I made new friends, I think mag bestfriend sila, two women from Italy. After daw nila sa El Nido dederetso sila sa Coron.
I also met this Italian guy, I think nasa 30 or 40+ na yung age, I didn't give him my number, but he did gave me his viber number and told me to message him. I didn't message him.
Maaga natapos yung tour, around 3 or 4 PM ata yun. So, after Island hopping, got ready again as usual to go out. I went to Las Cabanas beach, sabi nila maganda daw yung sunset dun, and they were right. I just hang out there. Hinintay yung sunset na bumaba while reading also the book na dinala ko. Nag ikot lang ako dun, may cafe, bilihan ng swimsuits and all that. May gym din. After that I went to town proper, naghanap ulit ako ng cafe, nag crave ako sa frappe, tapos bumili ako ng mga pasalubong. Unti unti kase ako bumibili ng pasalubong. I went to Happiness bar and resto, sikat siya eh, nakita ko sa tiktok. HAHAHAHA. I hang out there, made a few friends, then went back to my hotel.
DAY 4
Same as usual, breakfast ano, then nag ready. Wore my sunflower two piece swimsuit. Sinundo ulit. Then deretso sa island hopping.
My last tour was Tour A
Big Lagoon
Shimizu Island
Seven Commando Beach
Secret Lagoon
Payong Payong Beach
After Island hopping nag stay ako saglit sa hotel ko, hinintay ko din yung sunset sa beachfront ng hotel, I took videos, then I went to the town proper again, to buy souvenirs and pasalubong. Nakasalubong ko ulit sila Cora, the family that I made friends with nung Tour B, I also saw the two women I made friends with sa Tour C. Nakalimutan ko name nila HAHAHAHAHA. Hindi ako nagtagal sa town proper after ko bumili ng mga pasalubong I went back na to my hotel, and then I packed, iniwan ko lang yung isang swimsuit na isusuot ko kinabukasan for my last day in Palawan.
DAY 5
I woke up early kase gusto ko maabutan yung sunrise. Wore my red one piece swimsuit.
We went to Nacpan beach, Bulalacao falls, and Lio beach.
9 AM I went back to my hotel kase susunduin ako ng van ng mga 10:30 AM, 7:00 PM ang flight ko pabalik sa Manila.
By 11 AM ako nasundo. I bid my goodbye sa owner ng hotel, 5 hours ulit yung byahe papuntang PPS.
4 or 5 PM ako nakarating ng PPS airport, by 7 PM naka alis na yung plane, 9 PM ng gabi nasa Manila na ko.
Ang babait ng tao sa El Nido, mababait din yung mga trike driver, tour guides, and even the tourists. Everyone is so nice. Sobrang babalikan mo talaga. I never felt scared and threatened kahit na nasa ibang lugar ako at mag isa. I felt confident. All the people there were asking bakit mag isa ako. And sometimes sinasabi nila, "ang tapang mo ah". There's actually a family na nakasama ko din sa tour C, Pilipino. Matanda na yung mom and dad. May kasamang dalawang anak. Teenager yung babae, yung lalaki I think kaedad ko lang. I think they adopted me for a while nung nagtu-tour. They all said masyado akong matapang to travel alone. I just laughed. Deep inside I was also so thankful sa kanila. Because I knew ano man ang mangyari there are people na mine-make sure na maayos kang nakabalik ng hotel mo. Walang nang gugulo sayo. Basta all in all traveling alone, I thought may magiging bad experience ako. Since first time ko din, yun talaga inisip ko. Pero my God! Sobrang smooth and enjoy lang talaga. I crave now more to travel alone.
CHARING! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
I will surely go back! And maybe next time magsasama na ako. And maybe next time, sana! HAHAHAHA.
Coron and Siargao next!
May - Boracay
June - Ilocos (If hindi matuloy baka sa ibang month, pero sure na mag camping kami sa tanay ng month na to)
July - Zambales
August - Bohol
And binabalak ko pang umalis ulit mag isa ng October or November.
Hopefully, lahat ng travel bucket list. Lahat ng dreams and goals. Mafulfill ko.
Will be posting pictures naman!

Most travel slogans tempt you to travel to "escape". But of course, one never escapes from oneself. As you may have read in my previous blogs, I also consider myself as an escapist. I travel to find peace of mind, reflect on my previous actions, and learn how to deal with the real world with the eagerness to do better, and thirst to challenge myself to do things I am most afraid of.
Perhaps going out of our comfort zones provides us with a point of access, that most are unfamiliar pursuing. Travel is simply another door to experiencing oneself. Before, I travel to see the world. Now, I travel to let the world see me. The always trying version of me. The Jasfher that is loving and caring, and is unafraid of other people's opinion.
Dave has shown me that there's more to life, and that being in the present is so much simpler when surrounded by people who truly matter. I wholeheartedly take pleasure on the thought that I never have to be someone else for him to accept me.
Traditionally there are tours A, B, C and D. Each tour offering a set of 5+ beaches, islands, lagoons and snorkeling spots. Originally, we booked tours A, B and C. But after giving it some thought, we removed Tour B fro our itinerary, to give time and try scuba diving in the morning, and food crawl from afternoon till night. Probably oune of our best decision during this trip.
Of all the islands that we've been to, my favorite islands would include Shimizu island and Helicopter Island.
In Shimizu, the tall, black limestone mountains are guarded by beautiful palm trees and a stretch of white sand. The water is crystal clear and perfect for swimming and snorkeling. As a matter of fact, snorkeling at Shimizu Island is very popular. The island is considered to be one of the best snorkeling areas in El Nido and many tourists come here to explore the diverse marine life.
Helicopter Island, officially named Dilumacad Island, got its name because of the shape it takes when you see it from a distance. Once you get closer, its soft cream-colored sand and cerulean waters will lure you in and keep you entranced. It is a good place to relax, unwind, and enjoy the beautiful beachscape.
Going to Palawan with my boyfriend publicly holding hands is, to tell you the truth, invigorating (read: ganito pala feeling ng artista haha). It's like were sucked in our own little fantasy world where it's just the two of us, enjoying this little piece of heaven.

BECOME ONE WITH PALAWAN!
Characterized by lush, palm trees, vast yet breathtaking caves, cerulean beaches, and salty breeze paired with tropical essence, this can only be seen nowhere but in Palawan. Located southwest of the Philippines, Palawan is a long and narrow group of islands near the South China and Sulu seas. It is the largest province in the country in terms of total area of jurisdiction. Puerto Princesa being its capital, highlights some of the world's most serene and secluded beaches, thus making it a suitable haven for those seeking solitude and tranquility. The island's pristine and bespoke beaches are surrounded by crystal-clear waters, making them one of Palawan's prime attractions. Pack your bags, wear your slippers, lock that seashell necklace up, and prepare as we take a peek at some of the most gram-worthy destinations that will fill your calendars red this upcoming summer.
THE CROWN’S IN CORON
Explore the magnificent island of Coron in Palawan. The tropical island is located in the Philippine province of Palawan. The place is best known for its world-class World War II shipwreck diving. Not only that, the island also has stunning Palawan beaches, limestone karst landscapes, pure freshwater lakes, and coral reefs in shallow water.
SMITH POINT
A little more relaxed and ideal for family vacations and diving excursions is Smith Point Beach-Coron. Near Banol Beach on the northwest shore of Coron Island, Smith Point Beach is tucked away in a tiny, nearly circular inlet. The beach is fewer than 100 meters long, and the bay's stunning limestone karst structures are scattered across its glistening waters. Smith Point Beach is a fantastic place for swimming and snorkeling since the bay is home to vibrant coral reefs that are home to a vast marine life, including a lot of starfish. Here, you may locate a few beach shacks where you can eat and drink freshly served foods.
KAYANGAN LAKE
The island is ideal for diving excursions since it is a little more laid-back and has a lot to offer tourists. Lakes, lagoons, and lovely white-sand beaches may be found on the island. You may unwind, and get away from the daily grind in this tropical location. No other Kayangan Lake is one of the top sights on Coron Island hopping trips. Take advantage of the opportunity to visit Coron's tourist attractions, which include island-hopping to multiple beaches and lagoons.
CALAUIT SAFARI PARK
Calauit Safari Park is a 3,700-hectare island off the coast of Palawan where you may explore the game reserve and wildlife sanctuary of the Philippines. Hundreds of giraffes, elans, waterbucks, Calamian deer, monkeys, freshwater crocodiles, zebras, bear cats, bushbuck, and a variety of birds can be found there, along with other exotic African and endemic Palawan plant and animal species.
PUERTO PRINCESA
Puerto Princesa is a seaside city on the western Philippine Island of Palawan. The biodiverse Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park serves as a starting point for boat tours into the enormous limestone caves and underground river. Around Puerto Princesa Bay, which is home to long-nosed dolphins, turtles, and rays, are numerous dive spots. The 19th-century Immaculate Concepcion Cathedral is located close to the port.
Subterranean River National Park in Palawan encompasses one of the world's most awe-inspiring cave systems, featuring spectacular limestone karst landscapes, pristine natural beauty, intact old-growth mangroves, and distinctive wildlife.
EL NIDO
El Nido in Palawan houses the most beautiful locations in the world. Obscure lagoons, limestone formations, sandbanks, stunning islands, and pearl-white beaches with blue water are just the tip of what the 7,641 islands in the Philippines have in store for you. The El Nido island hopping tours are the most popular reason to visit this little town, but there is more!
One of the most well-known tropical havens on Palawan Island is El Nido. There are several magnificent white sand beaches and amazing lagoons in this coastal town, which is situated on the northernmost tip of Palawan. Everyone will have the incredible opportunity to see the most breathtaking rock formations and learn about the underwater environment if plan to traverse El Nido. You may chill, enjoy yourself, unwind, and get closer to nature at this covert paradise.
At this moment, you are now prepared to seek a worthwhile experience. Book your flights and fasten your seatbelts as we are about to make memories that will leave prints not just on beaches but most importantly, in our minds. Heal your cravings and claim that peaceful rest, everyone.

Majestic, El Nido!
Thank You, Lord! One of my dream destinations and “i made it” moments is to be here. I’d like to write everything down completely from how I didn’t have much time to process that I have made it to El Nido to how I had a huge sepanx when I got back home. What’s left in me is the beautiful memories of the locals and tour guides and how they treated us with so much love. See? Love is everywhere! I knew it. God is everywhere. He made sure I won’t just enjoy the beauty of His wonders but appreciate the life I have in Cavite. Its really different from the island life but it’s so pure and happy. I never dreamed of having lots and lots of money but always prayed for a happy and contented life and that God will always be in my heart. Forever. Maybe someday, I’ll settle down with the people I love near an island… who knows? Only Him! ✨

So. 16.04.2023 (Tag 26):

November 23 – 26, 2022 - Pt. I
At long last, Asis and I finally visited El Nido, Palawan from November 23 to 26, 2022. The whole family was initially supposed to go there in 2018. We already had our tickets, but due to budget constraints and other unknown reasons, we, siblings, and our partners decided not to go. My parents were the only ones who got to travel at that time. Another time was in 2020, when the pandemic upended everything. And finally, after two years, we were in El Nido, all thanks to my sister, who booked and gifted us these promo round-trip tickets ( ´ ▽ ` ).。o♡
Technically, we stayed in El Nido for only two days. The other two days were meant for travel time, to and fro. It was honestly exhausting to have to spend a day just to get to your destination. So time-consuming, but what can mere peasants do? We’re not wealthy enough to fly directly to El Nido.
Nov 23, Wednesday – We left home around 9 am, and arrived in Puerto Princesa around 3 pm. Thank heavens, the flight was smooth, no delays. But damn, we were overwhelmed when we got to NAIA Terminal 4 airport. It was extremely crowded, with tons of delayed flights, making it one of the worst airports in the world. Buuuut yea, it was really nice to ride an airplane again. We don’t always get to air travel, so being up in the sky is somewhat special to me. I'm truly amazed at how vast and beautiful the world is from a bird's-eye view. Being up in the sky always makes me feel tiny, like a speck of dust. Such a strange and amazing feeling.
Anyhoo, we rode a shared van when we arrived in Puerto that would transfer us to El Nido. The ride usually took 5 – 6 hours, but since we had to wait for other passengers, it took us 8 hours more or less. There was also a stopover where we had our dinner. We were also surprised at how nice the roads were in Palawan—much better than the roads and highways here in the metro. Must be nice to actually see proper outcomes to where our taxes go (」°ロ°)」 So yup, we arrived at our Airbnb at almost 11 pm.
The Airbnb I found was nice and cozy, just a room with a co-shared kitchenette and bathroom. It was close to everything, but at the same time, it was far from the noise and crowd. Our host, Jhustine, was accommodating and responsive as well.
Nov 24, Thursday – We booked a shared island tour A with APE Tours, as it was the most popular one and recommended by Jhustine. Although it was a bit more expensive compared to other agencies, it was worth it. We arrived just in time at the meeting place with 17 people in our group. The boat was nice and pretty big, with an upper deck. The tour inclusions were light breakfast, lunch, light snacks, beverages, free photos captured during our island-hopping experience, use of life vests, masks, and snorkel, environmental and entrance fees to the sites, and fun and professional crews. The weather was nice that day with only a few brief showers and drizzles. We even saw a rainbow near the rock formations, which was magical. I also learned how to properly use a snorkel, although I was panicking at times due to the presence of many fish. I just made sure Asis was near me or other tourists while snorkeling. They also played beach volleyball on our last island stopover. The tour ended around 5 pm, and it was a wonderful experience being basked in the beauty of El Nido. Grateful to be there. ♡
After our tour, we returned to our Airbnb, freshened up, and got hungry again. We checked out Jhustine’s clear book of rules and recommendations and chose Gibu’s Bulalo Plaza because we were both craving broth and seafood. Their food was cheap and delicious! We also explored the area and found streets full of busy restaurants, pubs, and shops, almost feeling like we were in a foreign country. There were foreigners everywhere, with only a few local tourists. We came across a Ukrainian brewery that served craft beers—IPA and stout. We stayed there for a while, and Asis finished his beers. We also got to watch a FIFA game between Uruguay and South Korea, which was fun as there were Uruguayans in the pub cheering loudly for their team. Afterward, we went back to our temporary home and called it a day. ♡

El Nido: A Heaven on Earth
During the summer of 2022, I was finally able to travel with my closest friends for the first time to one of the most beautiful places in the country (and in the world), home to stunning lagoons, white-sand beaches, glasslike waters, and towering limestone rock formations—EL NIDO, Palawan.
Our trip to El Nido wasn't as convenient as it might have seemed. It wasn't the usual trip I had expected.
Days before our flight, a strong typhoon hit our region, which caused a huge landslide on the highway in Brgy. Palarao, Leyte, Leyte. It totally blocked the road, and not even a single motorcycle could pass. Our travel day came, and it was still not passable. Yes, this trip almost didn't happen. But we were determined. With a bit of luck and a lot of persistence, we decided to go for it, even if it meant scrambling over the landslide area just to reach Ormoc City. It was indeed a terrifying and risky experience—I only told my parents about it after our entire trip, haha.
Thank God (and those who helped us) we were able to reach Ormoc safely and catch our 6 a.m. trip to Cebu, ensuring we made it to the airport without any delays.
After what felt like an eternity, we finally arrived in El Nido. The moment we set eyes on the beautiful beaches, the clear waters, and the towering limestone rock formations, we knew it was all worth it. El Nido is a place beyond words—a heaven on Earth.
We checked in at Novie’s Tourist Inn, a cozy and affordable accommodation that offered more than just a place to sleep, with free breakfasts too.
The highlight of our trip was the island-hopping tour we booked with Dagatan Travel and Tours. Big thanks to our friend Eloiza for organizing everything so seamlessly. Each island we visited was more beautiful than the last. From hidden lagoons to secret beaches, we explored the very best that El Nido had to offer. The tour even included free lunch buffets with plenty of food choices, which made the experience even more enjoyable.
We were also able to experience another side of El Nido—its vibrant night life. We enjoyed the lively ambiance, sipping on frozen margaritas and getting tipsy. It was the perfect way to unwind and celebrate the beauty of the day we had just experienced.
One thing I learned from this trip is the importance of taking breaks while traveling. We packed our schedule with nonstop tours, which, while exciting, was incredibly draining. By the end of it, we were exhausted. Looking back, I realized the value of reserving a day between tours just to rest and recharge. It’s a lesson that will stay with me for all future travels.
Overall, this entire trip was one for the books. El Nido is a must!

Days 12-13: El Nido- Island Hopping and Treehouse Heaven
A must-do activity in El Nido is island hopping- one of four tours, named A,B,C and D. Knowing we would and could not do all, and might do only one, we learned that the general opinion is that A is the most popular and likely a not-miss. C and D are far off and mostly open water travel. And B (or is it C?)’s biggest attraction is currently off limits due to filming of “Survivor” (I wonder which country’s version?)
So having signed up for A, we packed up our newly-purchased water-proof bag— but regrettably, I forgot to put my phone in it, so… here’s hoping it will work again.
The tour was just as we hoped. Cool guides “I know some Hebrew! Ani ohev otach!”, clearly demonstrating his honestly impressive linguistic abilities rather than professing his love for me.
The tour was definitely not-to-be-missed. The problem- no one missed it, and as a result, there is definitely over crowding. So that hidden lagoon? Not so hidden, when many other boats have the more-or-less same order and locales to island hop on. Would we forego it? No, because it was spectacularly beautiful. But serene? Far from it.
So we hopped, and chatted with some of the travelers, among them a wonderful couple from Italy. I took my first GoPro videos, and tried to capture the beauty.
Upon our return, I ran back to the hotel in order to make it on time to get us a few complimentary cocktails while Yuval exchanged numbers with the nice Italian couple who asked us to send them our GoPro videos.
That night we went into town again. Blown away by the previous night's pizza, and since we had so little pizza the whole trip, we decided to try out another pizza place that was literally overflowing with travellers and very highly rated. Benches lined the place in communal-dining style, so stuffed that those near the windows would literally climb out the window to leave or walk around to the counter to place orders. Make your own pizzas with incredibly unique combinations and ingredients, it was the type of place that you just didn't know what to order due to all the options. We stuck with pretty basic basil, mozz et al and were seated next to two French Canadian travellers. Learning we were from Israel, they asked, literally, tens of questions, about everything, with a thirst to understand the conflict, our life, the challenges, our decisions, and more. Their curiousity was refreshing, and it made for an amazing experience, equal to that of the pizza itself.
So, that night, it became clear that my little forgetfulness of having not put my phone in the waterproof bag destroyed my phone. That teaches me to keep my valuables in that blue bag around my chest. After hours of trying to charge, praying it will ,seeing it doesn't, and the helplessness of not knowing whether I will lose all that is stored there, I went to sleep, saddened by the thought of being phoneless. I wish I weren't so dependent upon that little thing, but what can you do, that's that. Who knows, maybe it can be saved... I went to sleep, trying to maintain my optimism, hoping my phone would once again be whole.
Tuesday, 26 March... Our last day in El Nido we decided we would spend once again exploring by moped. But first, breakfast overlooking the bay, another shakshouka, shared with a curious, hungry gecko.
We went into town to rent the moped, and then headed down south to the beach where the full moon party (that we didn't go to) was. We parked our moped in the very organized, very crowded, free parking area, then made our way towards the entry. A series of businesses lined the wide stairs that led down to the beach. From hair salons to cafes and ice cream joints, it all was very commercial... too much so. The one thing I did excuse for its commercialism was the gym that was lined with C2 rowers and even ski ergs! I wonder if those are listed in the "find an erg" website! Damning the fact that I was in flipflops, I forgave myself for not doing a day entry to the gym, knowing that time was better spent walking barefoot on the beach that was just a few more stairs away.
Apparently, this beach, Las Cabanas, has the best sunset around. The restaurants lining the beach were priced accordingly. Knowing travellers will find a choice spot and spend hours there until the sun sets, the restaurants had to get their moneys' worth from the few orders that would be placed from the even fewer patrons that would find seating.
The cheapskates we are, and with the knowledge that a sun set can be seen sitting on sand and not a beanbag, we had lots of time to explore. Another famous attraction on that beach is a zipline across the water onto an adjacent island, which also is accessible at lowtide. So we walked across the the island, exploring. We decided to hike up to the landing spot of the zipline, both to see if there was a view and to find out if we could get a cheaper ticket for the return journey back to the zipline launch. No luck there, but fun walking up the steep steps in the jungle, and seeing the screaming zipliners and the swooping drone that took the photography from up close. The experience reminded me of the time Yuval and I did the tarzan swing in Cyprus. I still have the VHS casette tape somewhere in my cupboard under our living room tv...
Concerned that high tide might trap us on the island, and tiring of rock climbing and scrambling in flip flops (future note to self: bring watershoes to beaches just in case), we started heading back and continued on our southbound walk. Having rounded the edge of the beach and after just a few paces, with the restaurants nowhere to be seen, we stumbled across a treehouse. High up on a cliff, the patio was made with intricate woodwork. Captivated by its clear artistry, I took a picture of the phone number posted high above, taking note for, perhaps, a future journey. A little further, there was yet another treehouse, this one with a lovely woman on the wooden artsy porch above. I waved hello. She leaned over, and I asked her if she is the owner. When she replied positively, we asked if we could check out the place. "Of course!" she answered, and made her way down to greet us.
Taking off our shoes, we started climbing up the long, narrow staircase up to the trees. It turns out the treehouses are advertised on Air B&B. It never occurred to Yuval and I to search Air B&B for accomodations during our travels. We primarily use Agoda, Booking, Expedia or HostelWorld. The places were beautiful, and absolutely reasonably priced compared to most places in the area. A little kitchenette, beautiful, quaint ceramic bathroom tiles, the living area peppered with art and statuettes from Africa or Polynesia or other far-away places, I could envision myself spending countless nights here, lulled to sleep by the sound of the ocean, feeling that I was on a deserted island, yet close by civilization that was just down and around the beach.
A natural first reaction was to regret not having found this find before coming. Then, clearing my head, I realized the place we were staying was lovely and perfect for us now. This place will be perfect for another time. So we parted ways with the owner, hoping one day to come back, with promises of a cooking lesson or two when I do.
Continuing on, we passed a couple that was making mobiles hanging from a tree, with the shells and plant debris that were scattered about. I wondered whether they were to sell, or they were just passing the time. We jumped over logs, admired the nearby islands, and eventually reached another hotel that seemed almost abandoned, except for a few staff. We climbed up to the bar and ordered a local beer, and sat, taking in the sea air and beauty. (and since there was an electric outlet there, I tried charging my still-alive-but-barely phone...)
We then made our way back. passing the now-ownerless still-hanging (thus not for sale but for beauty and pasttime) mobiles, the beautiful treehouses and populated beanbags. We reurned to our moped to go back to catch the cocktails and the also-wonderful sunset from our place (made that much better with free cocktails).
We checked out, settled our bill, and organized a ride so we could head out first thing to our excursion to Coron, after a final shakshouka breakfast. All was packed and ready to go.
Hoping I might be able to repair my phone before our 3-day internet-less excursion, we headed out to a repair shop we had been told about on the main road. I presented the phone to the man, who asked the model. After some time looking at it, he went to a workstation and took out what looked like a soldering iron and high powered airbrush, or some other brash tools of the trade. Yuval the wise one looked at me and said "Are you crazy?" as the clearly-unhygienic dust-laden main-road-pollution-heavy shop was not the most ideal of places to do such a sensitive repair. So we smiled and thanked them, I took back my now-dead phone, and said a little prayer to the phone G-d above.
We returned out moped, went back to our little haven, and went to sleep, hoping for a wonderful few days ahead.

The province is a paradise that blends tranquility with adventurous potential, making it an ideal exploration destination.
Every Palawan cave makes up to the destination’s many natural wonders. Here are the top 5 caves of Palawan that any explorer should check out on their trips.
Cudugnon Cave
An important archaeological site in El Nido, Palawan, is the Cudugnon Cave. Additionally, it is the ideal site for people seeking adventures to check off their bucket list. The cave is a known spot in every Palawan cave tour. Furthermore, it is speculated to be a burial site for ancient Palawenos.
When visitors enter the cave, they are immediately greeted with limestone formations, along with stalactites and stalagmites. Guests could also explore further and admire the cave's several rock formations. The skylight peaking through adds to these sites, creating a natural spotlight. Tourists can check this cave out through some of EL Nido’s available island-hopping tours.
The Hundred Caves
This series of interconnected caves in Puerto Princesa is called the Hundred Caves. These caves house a diverse ecosystem essential to the area. Once, it was a site where humans settled for thousands of years. Evidence of the earliest residents in the cave were found, along with specific artifacts dating back to World War II.
