It's ehōmaki season! They usually show up around Christmas, and I come back in January and get so excited that I'm usually sick of them by the time Setsubun rolls around and you're actually supposed to be eating them.
I think my enthusiasm would last longer for ehōmaki made with plain rice, like onigiri. Sushi rice is tasty too, but I reach critical mass with it much quicker. Maybe next month I'll celebrate with kimbap! Sure, they're not Japanese, but neither am I, and the sesame oil rice might be a nice change.
#ehomaki#sushi#it's the combo of sushi rice & pickles that i get sick of i think#it's so much sweeter than either component individually!!!!#(also: iggy is such a gentleman when he wants my food)

Setsubun...Run In Fear, My Little Ones!!
Ahh…Setsubun!! The day dreaded my many children across Japan, whether they’ve been good or bad. Here’s a short history of, as well as pros and cons. History of Setsubun in Japan Setsubun (節分) is a traditional Japanese festival. It marks the transition from winter to spring according to the old lunar calendar. Historically, it was considered a time when evil spirits (oni, or demons) could bring…

#tsukuritai onna to tabetai onna#she loves to cook and she loves to eat#tsukutabe#this episode ALWAYS makes me laugh#there's a lot of silly moments in it#which is funny-odd because the middle of it is serious business#but then you have kasuga and nomoto shopping for setsubun#them having brainfarts on a simple word and kasuga nearly mimicking her comic counterpart in food-chomping and the ehomaki scene...lmao

Chowing down on sushi in silence for Setsubun!
After perusing some comments from Japanese fans on Lily’s most recent Buddy Daddies art, I’m fairly certain that this piece was drawn for Setsubun, the day before the beginning of spring in the traditional Japanese calendar (in 2025, this holiday fell on February 2nd). The masks were likely used as part of the mamemaki (“bean scattering”) ritual, in which roasted soy beans are thrown at a family member dressed as an oni in a symbolic gesture intended to drive malevolent spirits from the home. Meanwhile, the lengthy sushi rolls are presumably ehomaki. Left untrimmed to avoid cutting off one’s good fortune, these sushi rolls are eaten while facing a direction deemed auspicious for a particular year. Moreover, celebrants must consume them without saying a word to prevent their luck from slipping away. Correct observance of this custom is believed to ensure prosperity and health.
Wishing our beloved found family abundance and peace in this new season!

👹Setsubun 2025
PAREO: I have made a jerky ehomaki for CHU²-sama~♪
MASKING: I wanna try making a roll cake ehomaki kinda like a yule log…!
LAYER: What ingredients should I use for this year's ehomaki…?

CHU²: LAYER! Didn't I say throwing beans was banned? This goes for peanuts too!
LOCK: We will be throwing beans together later! The beans are ready to go!

Setsubun is a holiday that happens the last day of winter in the old calendar. The traditions include: throwing beans and putting up decorations of sardine to drive evil spirits away, eating soybeans for each year of your life and eating uncut sushi roll (ehomaki) for good luck (plus more)

For she loves to cook she loves to eat- do you prefer the manga or the TV show?
I do prefer the original manga, but that isn't to say I dislike the drama. I love it, too! However, if you have known me long enough via the type of art I make, or what I reblog/share on my journal blog/Twitter/etc, you know I love comedy. I love funny expressions and overaggerations of mundane things, and the manga has a tendency to be (by comparison) way more hilarious in its gags than the drama.
The drama does have some funny moments, too, but it's brand is much quieter (ex. Its version of the "just one more slice" stollen scene or the sushi mat scene from S2). I think the closest the drama got to similar vibes to the manga was when they were eating the ehomaki and Nomoto was trying hard to get Kasuga's attention to the falling ingredients. Or when Sayama reacted to The Good News. What a scene cut lmao
Oh! And the trip to pick vegetables. I think that was the most energetic it got for humor, when Kasuga fell over picking that giant daikon and the ladybug moment...ah that was fun~
But anyway, the manga just stands a little higher on my pedestals, and not even because "the OG is always better" mindset! Just...funnier lol
Also...a little flirtier.
#asks#tsukuritai onna to tabetai onna#she loves to cook and she loves to eat#tsukutabe asks#heck i draw and write between the two versions a lot#they each have fun little things to add to the table~#i am still amazed at how well it got adapted for tv though#even the two original episodes in s2 still had the same vibes going on
