Little Miss Vocal Pants got herself another implant today... along with 5 of her sisters; Beatrix, Kudra, Violet, Daisy & Poppy. June is an excellent time to implant because with cooler weather just a few months away, it should help extend the life of the implants done today. We implanted a leghorn last June (Brandy), and it lasted until FEBRUARY! 🙌🏼 . #hereshoping #waronreprodisease #eggshurt #eggindustry (at Seattle, Washington)

People use a lot of phrases to make the fact that they eat eggs sound better: "backyard," "free range," "organic," blah blah blah. It does not change what happens to the male chicks, it does not change that it's exploitation, it does not change the harm for something so unnecessary. 💕🙏🏼🐓 Repost from @trianglechickenadvocates using @RepostRegramApp - Nowadays, I talk to people a lot about backyard chicken-keeping and why backyard eggs are no better than battery-cage eggs. It makes so much sense to me not only as a result of the toll domestication takes on chickens, but also as an encapsulation of speciesism at work on the bodies of living individuals. But often I'm not sure people believe me that we as anti-speciesist vegans are obliged to renounce backyard eggs. This meme shows cooked egg material that was blocking the oviduct of Beatrice, a lovely hen who came to live with us a few months after we started Triangle Chicken Advocates. It took a while for her to show us that she had reproductive problems; little did we know that she was already clogged up with cooked, rotting egg material. She lived with us for almost three years, matriarch of her flock, before that egg material led to her death. Beatrice didn't come from a battery cage or "free-range" factory shed. She was purchased as an Easter chick, and if not dumped at a rescue likely would have been someone's egg dispenser. Beatrice's problem was a nearly universal problem for laying hens--one of quite a few, in fact, all directly connected to the laying we have bred (forced) them to do. That baseball-sized lump is what I think about when I think of backyard eggs; I feel the loss of Beatrice and realize how inconsequential all of this is, at a fundamental level, to every person who chooses to eat eggs despite the realities of hens' biology. Please, stop endorsing backyard eggs and all other methods of egg production for humans. It isn't fair to Beatrice, nor to every other hen and rooster who is born only to face what we force upon them. It isn't fair, and it sure as hell isn't ethical. It needs to stop. - Justin #eggshurt

In honor of #nationaleggday, I ask that my followers please familiarize themselves with how chickens came to lay so many eggs, and the price their bodies and their babies pay for our selfish desires. When we know better, we can do better for these precious babes.

This is why we talk about implants so much. 🚨 FIVE 🚨 more girls made the trip up today. Lucille (first photo of feet), Lizzy (not pictured), Libby, Cinnamon & Snow all received hormonal implants. As you can see from the first photo, even ***BACKYARD HENS*** get depleted of nutrients from the burden of laying eggs. Lucille was someone’s backyard hen. The left side is after we got her home back in November. Her nails were overgrown, she had Vit A deficiency, and look how pale her legs and feet are. 😱 It’s so crazy to see the comparison side by side. When you see her every day, you don’t notice the small changes. The left side is from today. Lucille received her second implant this year. Her little body gets to have a break and hang on to those nutrients! Look how yellow (as they should be) and better looking her feet and legs are now! Here at STL, our focus is on quality care of the lives we save. We make that promise to every animal that comes through our doors. With your help, we can continue our work helping the animals and educating the public. Even though you can’t tally the animals you save through education, that’s the foundation of our work. 🐔 . Follow us on #Patreon for more news, updates and inside information, for as little as $1/month. . #birdsmatter #eggshurt #backyardchickens (at Tacoma, Washington)

It’s not hard to see why Marty is our #womancrushwednesday! 😍 This beauty is happily enjoying retirement. She’s part of the small percentage that didn’t succumb to repro disease between 3-5 years of age. We love you, Marty! . #eggshurt #rescuehen #retired

Turns out it was a very good thing that we got Destiny implanted on Tuesday! We found her broody today in the nesting box laying on a broken egg. So this sticky girl needed a bath this evening! She got blow dried (with a ceramic, Teflon-free, blow dryer) and will spend the night inside. Her implant should kick in soon! Being broody is not good, as a hen can lose up to a THIRD of their body weight. Broody hens are high maintenance and you need to make sure they are coming out to eat, drink and poop! 💩 Broody = implant around here. It’s best for their overall health! 🐔 Hang in there, Destiny. We love you and your body will get a break very soon. 💕 . #eggshurt #broody #rescuehen #enumclawbabies

Happy #SundayFunday! We’re doing a little #Crueltyfree crafting. 🎨A set of 12 wooden eggs can be found for $14 on Amazon. You can paint them, reuse them or gift them and paint more next year. This is a great way to enjoy traditions without exploiting our animal friends. 🐣 We also couldn’t let this day go by without mentioning all the innocent chicks and ducks that will be gifted to children today. Most often, they will be dumped in the coming weeks when people realize how much work they are or that they were born the wrong gender. 😢 #ThinkFirst #animalsarentgifts #adoptdontshop #eggshurt

Snow White’s transformation is complete! She has tail feathers for the first time in her life! 😱 She spent the first 18 months of her life in a battery cage, being used for her eggs. She came to us December 31, 2016. She has outlived half of her group that came up that day. On January 23rd this year, she received her first life-saving implant to prevent her from laying eggs, as part of our #waronreprodisease. An implant will keep her healthy and help prevent reproductive cancers and EYP. However, this non-invasive procedure will need to be repeated in a few months. If you can help keep Snow White healthy and egg free, please consider donating to our implant fundraiser (link in profile). Thank you! 🙏🏻 Snow definitely wins our pick today for #womancrushWednesday! What’s beauty she blossomed into, we are so happy we could help her before it was too late. ❄️ . #eggshurt #hormonalimplant #transformation

Destiny is a cute, curious lil hen that we rescued almost one year ago. 🐔We think people thought she was a boy when she was dumped at an animal auction with her three brothers. 🐥🐥🐥 It was destiny that we happened to be there that day. She will NEVER be used and exploited for her eggs. In fact, she received an implant last fall to prevent egg laying and now it’s time to re-implant her. If only all hens were as lucky as she. 🍀 🌈💚 Tax-deductible donations help hens like Destiny receive life-saving medical care and assists in our #waronreprodisease. 🙏🏻 If you feel compelled to help hens like Destiny by preventing the taxing process of egg laying, you can support us on Patreon or make a one-time donation on our website or FB page. (Links in profile) Thank you in advance for helping us help them, because they deserve it so much!! ☺️ Happy Hump Day! . . #womancrushwednesday #humpday #rescuehen #eggshurt #enumclawbabies

We said goodbye to little Pearl last week. To anyone that thinks eggs don't cause harm, Pearl can tell you otherwise. At just 2 1/2 years young, her reproductive system, that humans turned into a machine, could take no more. Chickens are very good at hiding illness and by the time we noticed a change in her behavior, it was too late. 💔😢 Please learn from Pearl. Stop eating eggs and using hens. Don't be part of the problem, be part of the solution. 🌎 #bethechange #govegan #eggskill #eggshurt #exbatteryhens

💐 Happy Mother’s Day 💐 . Today we mourn for all the mothers of the dairy & egg industries that never got to be with their children. 😔 Please consider eliminating animal products from your diet. 🙏🏻 . Three years ago on Mother’s day weekend, we rescued our first spent hens. At just 2-3 years old, they were being replaced with younger versions to meet their owners demand for eggs. 💔 Sky girl is the only surviving hen from this quartet. 😢 R.I.P. Blue, Granny (both repro disease) and Fuji (heart attack). Your deaths will not be in vain. We’ve learned so much about birds in our three years of rescue and we will continually strive to improve ourselves as caretakers and the environment we provide these innocent animals. We have a lot of work ahead of us! We are already making plans on paper for enclosures and the layout of the property. It’s all very exciting and a little scary, too! Chickens are often overlooked for many reasons, but that’s why we fight so hard for them. Each one is an individual. 🐓❤️ Happy rescue-versary, Sky. 🤗 . #eggshurt #rhodeislandred #rescuehens #sundayfunday #mothersday (at Fox Island, Washington)

Four beautiful ladies received implants today: Bianca, Poppy, Rose & Daisy. 🙌🏼 🌹 We know we talk about them a lot, but implants save lives, especially with these industry breeds. ***Update: since launching our #waronreprodisease in January, we have not lost a single hen!! We’re already winning over last year! 👊🏼💕. We want to continually strive to improve the lives of animals in our care. 🐓 . #rescuehens #exbatts #eggshurt
