Party - @noblehouseofgay - word count: 811 - 25 Days of Jegumas
Tumblr media
Snow blanketed the grounds of the Potter estate, glistening under the soft light of enchanted fairy lanterns strung from every corner of the towering manor. Inside, however, chaos reigned.
“Regulus, darling, tell me again why we decided to host this party?” James Potter called from the kitchen, a chaotic war zone of half-empty punch bowls, flour-dusted countertops, and an overturned tray of eggnog cupcakes.
Regulus Black appeared in the doorway, his sharp features softened by the firelight flickering from the living room. He held a perfectly wrapped present, complete with an elaborate silver bow. “Because you insisted that hosting the most outrageous Christmas party would solidify your position as the king of the Gryffindor-Slytherin alliance.”
James grinned. “And you agreed because you secretly love my friends.”
“Don’t push it, Potter.” Regulus set the present under the enormous, glittering Christmas tree in the center of the room. “Besides, I wanted to prove that even a Black can handle holiday cheer.”
The doorbell rang—or, more accurately, the enchanted chime of We Wish You a Merry Christmas blasted throughout the house.
“They’re here!” James practically leapt over the couch, skidding on the polished wooden floor as he opened the door.
The first to arrive were Sirius Black and Remus Lupin, the former carrying a box of firewhiskey and the latter balancing a tray of suspiciously charred cookies.
“Reg, you look like you’re hosting a funeral,” Sirius said, clapping his younger brother on the back as he passed him in the hallway.
“It’s called elegance, Sirius. You should try it sometime.”
Remus placed the tray on the dining table, squinting at the cookies. “I told Sirius not to help, but he insisted on ‘adding flair.’”
“I added chocolate chips!” Sirius defended, popping one into his mouth and grimacing. “Okay, maybe a bit too much cayenne pepper.”
The doorbell rang again, heralding the arrival of Lily Evans and Pandora Lovegood. Lily was radiant in a green velvet dress, her red hair twisted into a festive braid, while Pandora wore a glittering gold jumpsuit that seemed to sparkle with its own light.
“Pandora, you’re glowing—literally,” James said, his grin wide.
“Oh, it’s the new spell I’m working on,” Pandora replied dreamily. “It makes you sparkle like stardust, but there’s a slight side effect of emitting heat. Be careful not to stand too close.”
Lily gave James a playful shove as she passed him, heading straight for Regulus. “Regulus! You’re a brave man for agreeing to this madness.”
Regulus smirked. “Bravery has nothing to do with it. I’ve perfected the art of selective hearing.”
As the house filled with guests, music, and laughter, the party escalated quickly. Sirius commandeered the gramophone, insisting on a mix of Christmas carols and Muggle punk rock. Meanwhile, Barty Crouch Jr. and Evan Rosier set up an impromptu drinking game involving enchanted mistletoe that zipped around the room, forcing random pairs to kiss.
Pandora ended up locking lips with a very startled Peter Pettigrew, who turned bright red and stumbled into the Christmas tree, knocking over half the ornaments.
“Careful, Wormtail!” Sirius called from the couch, where he was sprawled with Remus, both nursing glasses of spiked eggnog.
“I’m fine! Totally fine!” Peter squeaked, attempting to fix the decorations.
In the corner, Lily was in a heated discussion with Evan about whether or not Severus Snape was redeemable. Barty, clearly bored, used a flick of his wand to transfigure the mistletoe into a miniature dragon that began chasing Sirius around the room.
“BARTY!” Sirius howled, ducking behind the couch.
“Relax, it’s harmless!” Barty laughed, though the dragon was now spitting tiny sparks that ignited Sirius’s sleeve.
James and Regulus, meanwhile, stood together by the tree, observing the mayhem with a mixture of amusement and exasperation.
“You know,” James said, slipping an arm around Regulus’s waist, “this isn’t half bad.”
Regulus raised an eyebrow. “Half bad? There’s a miniature dragon loose, half your friends are drunk, and someone—” he paused as they heard a loud crash from the kitchen, “—just destroyed your mother’s crystal punch bowl.”
James shrugged. “Yeah, but everyone’s having fun. Even you.”
Regulus couldn’t help the small smile that tugged at his lips. “Don’t push it, Potter.”
By the time midnight struck, the party had descended into a glorious kind of chaos. Pandora and Barty were leading a conga line through the house, Sirius and Remus were dancing on the dining table, and someone—likely Evan—had charmed the chandelier to rain confetti.
As the clock chimed twelve, James raised his glass, pulling Regulus closer. “A toast! To the wildest Christmas party Hogwarts alumni will ever remember!”
“And to Regulus Black,” Sirius added, lifting his own glass. “For actually tolerating all of us!”
Regulus rolled his eyes but clinked his glass with James’s. “Merry Christmas, everyone.”
It was, without a doubt, a party none of them would ever forget.
