Things I Do and DON'T wanna see for Sonic 4

⚠️SPOILERS AHEAD FOR SONIC 3⚠️ DO NOT READ yet

With the introduction to Sonic 4 being Announced, here something's I wanna see happen in the 4th Sonic movie, now keep in mind these are just things I wanna SEE happen in the 4th movie and not that I know they're GOING to happen, it's just something I think Paramount/ SEGA should decide to do if Sonic 4 is going to be PEAK

1 thing I would absolutely love to see adapted into the Sonic films is the inclusion of rail grinding, Since it's obvious that we're going to be getting a metal Sonic storyline and therefore possibly a time travel one, I think seeing Rail grinding in probably an Apocalyptic future setting would be absolutely an amazing thing to see in live action, especially since it's pretty much a staple in Sonic games and hasn't really been adapted yet. Another thing I would love to see is the inclusion of the iconic Soap shoes, since this movie was basically taking inspiration from Sonic A2, not including the soap shoes was surprisingly a shock to me, especially since they're so iconic in that game, However I understood their reasoning probably being that they're just not in style anymore and therefore wouldn't really be serving a purpose, other than just being fan service, HOWEVER, if they were to include them in the 4th movie being that we're probably going to be seeing a possible Apocalyptic setting, then seeing Rail grinding and Soap shoes would definitely be a possible thing, especially since the Soap shoes would Definitely fit in with the overall futuristic vibe

Next up is Sonic and Amy's relationship, tbh I HONESTLY do not want her to just be solely obsessed with Sonic, I get that's her character and all but there are so many different ways you can go about it, With how she's been characterized recently, I think she'll be more than just that but I really hope they actually go that route and change her, as much as I hate the show, I really love how she's depicted in Sonic Boom, her design is beautiful, her voice is on point, and her relationship with Sonic is just so damn cute because she's not just a damsel and is actually an effing fighter and leader, Also 1 more thing I whole heartily want to see, is Sonic to just be awkward around amy and actually have him experience/ fall in love for once, most Sonic games and shows like to keep him closed off from amy and kinda deny his feelings for her, i think it would be cool if they would break away from that trope and actually have him acknowledge his feelings for her instead, Maybe that's just because I'm such a huge Sonamy shipper and have been since the beginning but it's whatever lol

Finally one thing I DON'T want to see them do again for this film is bring back Dr eggman, I feel like This will be the absolute perfect opportunity to determine weather or not the Sonic movies are ONLY Successful because of Jim Carey. if they decide to not bring back robotnik and actually decide to focus on a whole New villain and are still able to succeed in the box office, then this will undoubtedly PROVE that the Sonic films are the BEST way to do a video game adaptation and were meant to be successful with or without Jim Carey, because let's be real, if it wasn't for Jim Carey's performance then the Sonic movies wouldn't be doing as nearly as good as they are now, that isn't to say they're BAD cuz they're NOT, it's just to say that they wouldn't do as good or as well if it wasn't for robotnik. Going forward without Robotnik I think would be a Great way to test the franchise and not only give a New Villain a chance to shine, but would also prove to Paramount, that they can still COOK with or without Carey, in my opinion, having Metal Sonic be the Main Villain of the next movie would not only give you the chance to adapt other Sonic villains in a unique way, but I think probably make THIS ONE the SCARIEST villain of all time, especially with Metal/NEO Sonic.

A Villain with No emotion, No motive, no remorse, No DEEPER meaning other than simply having the "I Want to KILL YOU" mindset and is just STRAIGHT UP Evil is something haven't seen done in a Long time, tbh you can probably make him the Ultron of the Sonic universe and have him JUST be evil and it wouldn't bother us at all as long as you write him well, Plus robotnik LITERALLY had the greatest character arc in this film, from wanting to take over the world, to ending up being the one who saves it, yeah it doesn't get better than that. I Guarantee you that if Robotnik DOESN'T come back and we Actually get a new Villain that will be the BEST move for the Sonic films as a whole and I think will have the chance to ACTUALLY expand on more of his cast from here out, anyway those are just my thoughts but whaddya think?

- has supposedly pretended to be sonic in the past, leaving cubot to be Amy lol (the ep when sonic and eggman swapped bodies)

- has interrupted their dates

And in IDW issue #60

I guess you can see here that Eggman knows targeting Amy would get Sonic completely distracted, leaving the opponent to easily attack him

I might as well ask you this because I enjoy your writing and way of expressing your opinions. Why do you personally ship Sonamy? What got you into Sonamy? What’s your favorite moment between the two? I know this is a very common question, but I hope you don’t mind me asking. 😅

Oh, this ought to be fun XD I don't mind at all. Send all the asks you like, I like to talk about my interests. I tend to ramble, so excuse my long texts. Gonna insert a break line so I don't torture my followers (that sentence makes it sound like I'm running a cult.)

Why do you personally ship Sonamy? What got you into Sonamy?

These two are connected, so it's fair to answer them both in one go. I'm very new to the fandom, unlike most of the people I've met who've been here for as long as they can remember. I originally had no interest in the franchise. Yeah, I played some games and watched the anime a few years back and had some cheap plastic toys from fast-food kiddie meals, but the franchise never stuck with me back then.

I got reintroduced through Sonic Prime around last year, which led to me reading the IDW comics, which is where I started getting into SonAmy. I really liked Amy in particular; surprising, seeing as she hadn't been my favorite character as a child. I liked Tails and Silver more back then, but the comic solidified Amy as my number one. In every fandom I've been in (HTTYD, MHA) I almost always gravitate toward characters who embody love, and that's the core of Amy.

Sonic was harder for me to decipher at first, seeing as he's more of a person who shows his emotions through action rather than words (in some iterations, at least.) But seeing him be more receptive in the comics and treating her better in more recent media portrayals piqued my interest because this wasn't how I remembered these two from when I was a kid. Seeing the progression from how their dynamic started to how it became made me feel proud of them.

And I'm one of those who likes to hypothesize that their affection used to be more one-sided but became mutual over time. Things change. Feelings change. People change. And I love that.

What’s your favorite moment between the two?

This. I think this is when I started seeing the ship as something I'd like. I've inserted the second panel as well because, while I know the first one is a no-brainer for some SonAmy shippers, I don't see many of them bringing up the follow-up panel.

Before this scene, Sonic kept rejecting Amy's proposal to go back to the Resistance with her (he had his reasons, as he saw investigating the circumstances of Eggman's absence and the waves of Badniks as a higher priority. Get to the snake's head to find the root of the problem.) He was in a hurry to get going. It wasn't until Amy told him she loved him for who he was and that she didn't want to change him that he stopped, got a little flustered, and proposed she come with him instead.

And she declined. She, too, had priorities.

Before this moment, it was possible he didn't see having both Amy and his stubborn way of doing things his way possible, but after, it might've finally clicked in his head that, Oh wait, I can have both? He's asked Amy to come along with him for other adventures afterward.

Also, can I just say how much I appreciate Sonic (who has a history of being touch averse) being more welcoming to her affection? Cause I do.

Okay, switching to Frontiers:

This scene is mostly quiet (I like nonverbal communication in general) and I found it too adorable to not mention. It's just for a few seconds, but the way Sonic does a little giddy skip when she waves him over, and the the fact that he just smiled so innocently the whole time he made his way over is just pure sweetness.

This short little misunderstanding/confrontation. This one's just plain fun for me. Sonic's impatience and inability to articulate his reasoning leads to him sounding like he's abandoning the Koco Amy really wants to help. She's putting the Koco before herself when Sonic's just worried about her. As soon as the misunderstanding is cleared up, Amy calms down, seeing it from his point of view now. It's a subtle little exchange, but knowing how these two used to not be great at communication in past games, and seeing them now deescalate a little misunderstanding this calmly brings me joy.

With each Koco the characters help, there's a certain theme associated between the Koco and Sonic's friends. The inventor Koco and Tails, trying to be of use to others; the soldier Kocos and Knuckles, both who had their people wiped out. For Amy, the Koco (the only Koco who goes by they/them, so that's what I'll be using for them here) is trying to reunite with their lover who had gone into battle. Throughout the game, Amy in her ghostly form can't touch anyone, and she expresses symptoms of dissociation, of feeling 'detached', that she's flying in a dream, but she wishes to just land.

Remember, Amy is a physically affectionate person, but she can't do much of anything, let alone feel anyone, in this situation. She has to leave it to her love, Sonic, to go into battles. She knows all too well how the Koco was feeling, being separated from their lover. When Amy and Sonic watch the Koco reunite with their partner for the last time, it hits Amy hard, and Sonic knows how affected she is by this. He gives her some time to grieve because he knows her well enough to understand this hit her hard. He tells her, "They're together now." And that's all that matters. And I love that scene. It's so mild compared to what others in the community might bring up, but I'm a sucker for the quieter moments like this.

SonAmy: Talk of Canon & Canon Expectations in Fandom

I understand that not everyone likes or supports SonAmy. I understand that there are plenty of annoying, obsessive shippers out there who turn people away from the ship entirely. I get why so many antis are sick of seeing SonAmy, especially with there being more of a focus on the ship in recent years, both in the fandom and in the franchise itself.

And as a SonAmy shipper, I’m fine with that because what others think won’t change my own enjoyment of the pairing. Toxic shippers and toxic antis won’t make me stop from shipping the two together regardless.

But what I do take issue with are those antis who still persist with the idea that SonAmy has no canon basis to it and that Sonic doesn’t have any romantic feelings towards Amy. Going further by using the whole, “It’ll never be official/canon, so stop shipping it.”

The thing with that is, I’m fully aware that Sega is never going to make SonAmy “official.” By official, I mean, Sonic and Amy are never going to openly confess to one another (on screen) and start dating. Sonic and Amy are never going to be a canon couple or get married.

Because the Sonic franchise does not progress that way. It’s known for sticking to the status quo when it comes to character relationships, and one of the biggest selling points for Amy and Sonic’s dynamic is that Amy openly loves Sonic and pursues him, and Sonic is too shy to openly admit his feelings for Amy, focusing more on freedom and stopping Eggman.

Sonic is a franchise that doesn’t focus too heavily on romance, but there has been romance present in the games, shows, and other spinoff series. And unlike what many have claimed, Sonic has been shown to return Amy’s feelings, he just isn’t as open about them as she is towards her own feelings.

Example 1: Sonic X (produced by TMS Entertainment, but was in partnership and oversaw by Sega & the Sonic Team)

Was full of moments that were heavily coded as romantic, from Amy giving the seashell bracelet as a gift and Sonic later on wearing it and saving her from drowning to the scene where they fall into the hay and just relax together in that moment, Sonic even letting her blow some stray hay out of his ear.

This specific scene also come to mind because it is heavily, heavily romantic coded. From the lighting to the positioning, to Sonic being the one who gifts Amy a white rose (which is typically used at weddings) after Amy has a heartfelt confession and asks him to just tell her he loves her.

Example 2: Sonic Unleashed

When Sonic is turned into a werehog and Amy spots him and comes rushing over, he immediately becomes insecure about the way he looks and runs away. He doesn’t want Amy to see him in such a state and fears scaring her away.

But the real indicator of any romantic feelings shown in the game is the fact the player is given the option to accept Amy’s date proposal or not.

If Sonic doesn’t have any feelings towards her, then why would that even be an option in the first place? If Sega never intended for Sonic to ever return Amy’s feelings, then he wouldn’t agree to a date, nor would the player be given the option.

Example 3: “Sonic is too shy to confess.”

Says right there on the tin. Sega was asked and they answered with this. And if this is supposedly fake, wouldn’t have Sega caught wind of this and cleared things up as to prevent any misunderstanding?

I could also go into other examples, such as the recent IDW comics (not Archie) or Sonic Boom, but I’ve already made my point and this is already getting quite long (sorry).

While, yes, there’s never been a concrete moment where Sonic proclaimed, “I love Amy Rose!” in the games or spinoffs, there’s plenty examples of subtle moments indicating that Sonic has some feelings towards Amy. Sega has had many romantic moments shared between the two where Sonic didn’t run away or reject Amy’s advances, sometimes openly reciprocating or initiating them (albeit not as eccentric as Amy does in comparison).

So, the argument about whether SonAmy is “canon” or “official” has always been a pointless one to me because there’s already evidence that the two have some level of romantic feelings towards each other. Sega has made it rather clear that SonAmy is a thing.

But they’ve also made it clear that they have zero plans to ever have the two officially date or marry in the games or spinoffs.

This does not mean that SonAmy isn’t canon; it just means that the franchise isn’t going to risk making any major decisions that will change the already pre-established status quo. So, in a way, yes, SonAmy is not “official” in the most canon-sense of the word.

But none of that even matters when it comes to shipping, because shipping has never been about whether or not characters end up dating or married in canon. People ship crack and uncanon pairings all the time, sometimes with characters who’ve never even met or interacted before. Even if SonAmy didn’t have any canon basis to it, people would still be shipping them because canon has nothing to do with shipping.

I guess what I’m trying to say is, antis claiming that SonAmy isn’t canon based solely on them not officially dating or being married, while also ignoring the evidence that proves they share mutual feelings towards one another, has always felt like an inconsequential point to me.

It’s just an outdated way to look at shipping.

Hi! I wanted to ask you guys this question. So basically, I have this friend and we were talking about the relationships in Sonic. When they told me that Sonic x Amy was canon, I told them that It wasn't and if they had any proof but they only told me that It was the ending of the black knight (I think at the end of the credits) telling me that It was because Sonic was willing to go on a date with Amy and didn't deny anything like he usually does therefore It was "confirmed" I personally didn't see it that way and It's not like this was ever brought up again but I just wanted to hear your thoughts on this. I hope that you know what I am referring to!

Hello there. First, I would say that just because two people go on what one of them would call a date, doesn't mean that the two are automatically in a relationship. Look at it like blind dates. Just because you go on a date with someone you never met before, doesn't automatically mean that you're in a relationship with that person, right? You could be just testing the waters, seeing how things go. At the end of the date, you could decide that maybe this person isn't for you and sometimes you can think that maybe you should just stay as friends. If it took just one date to make people in a relationship forever, then there would be tons of people who would be in a relationship with many people all the time and that doesn't make sense, does it?

Second, not all "dates" with people are romantic. Sometimes you can go on "dates" with friends, which is what Sonic thinks of Amy and it is said to be so multiple times in both English and Japanese. When asked what he thinks of her, he just thinks of her as a friend or comrade, whether Amy thinks the same or not. And even in her profile, she is said to be a self proclaimed girlfriend, not his actual girlfriend, which means she just claims to be his girlfriend, even if he doesn't agree. She isn't Sonic's girlfriend and Sonic doesn't see her as his girlfriend or in a romantic manner, therefore, they're not in a relationship. That fact hasn't changed.

Third, Amy is a pushy person where even if Sonic doesn't want to hang out with her romantically, she would force him or pressure him to go on what she would call "dates," especially with violence in the old games. Due to that violence, that is why he avoids her when possible, leaves her in others' care and ends up agreeing despite not wanting to go. This can be seen in their 2021 Calendar story where when he arrives on time to go to the park with her, he says an off comment about how he shouldn't have said the roller coaster looked fun since he didn't want to be dragged to the amusement park with her. Another thing to remember about Black Knight is that in the game with Nimue, he was afraid of her and backed away from her until he realized that she wasn't going to go pursue him like Amy would. After realizing she is a different person, he was more casual with her like he is with all his friends. And when he entered the world of the book, he didn't mind not making it on time to meet up with Amy since he goes through the game without mentioning it at all, which shows that he didn't want to go in the first place much like the other forced "dates" Amy makes him go on.

Four, if you want to talk about the word "date" specifically, does that mean that Sonic going on a date with the Time Eater in Sonic x Shadow Generations, makes him in a relationship with the Time Eater? He said he has a date with the monster Time Eater, so that means that suddenly they're in a relationship? Does that mean he's in a relationship with Eggman since in Sonic Heroes, he says he has to go on a date with him? I wouldn't think so, right?

And five, Sonic has stated multiple times that himself and Amy are just friends, even when asked by Sonamy shippers. He does deny there being anything romantic between them, especially in more recent materials past Black Knight. How Sonic sees Amy since the beginning to now is that of just a friend or someone who helps him out at times. You also have to take into consideration how Sonic acts towards Amy as a whole throughout the games, not just one or a few. And games made by mainly the Western branches can't be taken as proof of things either because they purposely go out of lore/contradict lore and make things that don't make sense due to personal biasness (this includes Sonic Frontiers, Sonic Dream Team, Sonic Origins, Sonic Superstars, IDW Comics, Sonic Boom, revised Sonic Generations, Lost World, etc.).

Sonic runs away from Amy and doesn't want to deal with her when possible, that's why he leaves her in others' care like Tails in Sonic Colors DS and Emerl in Sonic Battle. When seeing her, he looks uncomfortable or displeased, which shows that he is not interested in her romantically and that he doesn't like seeing her since she is so pushy and follows him around, even if he doesn't like it. In Sonic Advance 3, he even states to Amy that they are not fated to be together (Japanese) and that they are not meant to be together. When he said this, she took out her hammer and told him not to deny it, which shows violent behavior and that she's pushy to push her perspective and feelings onto Sonic, much like how she's pushy to claim that anytime they hang out, it's a "romantic date" or that she's his girlfriend, even if Sonic doesn't see it that way. Sonic shows not to like her behavior, and even in that game, he shows not to like being paired with her if the player choses to have them fight stages together. The title "Lovely Couple(?)" comes from Amy wanting to see herself and Sonic like that, but the question mark is added to show that Sonic himself doesn't think that way, nor does he like the idea of implying that they are a couple (as stated with his answer earlier saying that they are not fated or meant to be together). Even in the original Sonic Generations, Sonic pushes Amy away due to her trying to make romantic advances towards him because he doesn't like her romantically, but he can be okay with her presence if she just keeps her distance and acts as a friend since he sees her as just a friend.

What your friend is implying can also be taken as quite shallow or rude where just because two people are the opposite gender and one claims to like the other, that means that the both of them are in a relationship and like each other despite that not being true. Would you say you're in a relationship with every person in your life that's the opposite gender that you either see as a friend, family or acquaintance? I wouldn't think so, therefore, just because Sonic is a male while Amy is a female, doesn't automatically make them in a relationship just because of that. That can be said for a lot of relationships between people of any gender where sometimes they're just friends, family or acquaintances to them. You have to look at more than just one instance to state whether someone is in a relationship or not, or whether someone is interested in someone or not. Whether you want to take it official or not, Sonic does state to Shadow that he hearts (loves) him in Sonic Prime and he showed to care because he kept on worrying about his well-being. Shadow also worried about Sonic and pushed himself to the limit to save his life. This has happened, whether others wish to admit it or not. And even if others want to claim it's a "joke," their actions towards each other throughout the show don't show it to be a joke and if one of them was a female, others, like your friend, would most likely not deny that the two are canon just because they see a male or female state to the other (or imply) that they like the other without the other denying it. But unlike with Amy where it is stated and shown multiple times that Sonic sees her as a friend and nothing more, it is stated in Japanese that Sonic and Shadow share an intimate relationship and that no one else can understand them like they do for each other. This relationship between each other is even shown, which was talked about on a recent post of ours. You can read it to see what I mean.

I hope this answers your question and gives insight on things in a more general perspective than a narrow one that only looks at one piece of media instead of many.

Oh, I have a few.

First thing that comes to mind, I don't think Tails and Cream are especially close friends at the moment, they have more of a "friend of a friend" type of relationship, however, I could definitely see them reconnecting and becoming really close when they're older. It's hard to find someone else who can relate to their childhood experiences in a similar way and it would do both of them a lot of good when trying to reflect on them.

After Sonic, I think Amy is Tails's closest friend (even if it's not necessary mutual. Amy is a very social person). He also tends to get a bit protective over her, even if he obviously knows that she can take care of herself (this one is probably mutual though). And it's not just physical safety, they both get really mad when the other gets overlooked. I really like how in some games (like Adventure and Battle) they live pretty close to each other, so I imagine they help each other with domestic issues. They probably go shopping together. Imagine the core four fighting Eggman and Amy and Tails keep talking about upcoming sales djcjxxjmd. I also like to imagine that when they were little Amy had taught a lot if basic necessary stuff that she had learned from her parents to Tails, you know, how to sew on a button, how to cook simple meals, how to use a broom, etc. (On another note, Tails is probably the biggest Sonamy shipper out there, but a lot of it maybe comes from being worried that she would stop hanging out with him if she ever got over Sonic. This is not rational and he tries not to think about it, but it still gnaws at him a bit)

I also like to imagine Tails being friends with Big. Tails just comes down to his place to hang out most of the time, Big doesn't really mind. Big doesn't know anything about Tails being an engineer or whatever, he just sees a kid living by himself so he tries to be a cool older cousin-type and does his best to keep an eye on Tails.

I've been making up a lot of headcanons about Tails's family lately, but here's one: when he met Sonic andnstarted traveling with him, he actually run away from home. He used to live with his uncle and his family back then, and it wasn't really great for him (I actually headcanon that those foxes from the Origins cutscene are his cousins). So he didn't think twice about leaving them. (They just assumed he died during Eggman's invasion). Sonic had no idea that Tails had living relatives until years later.

I actually might have posted about this before, so here's another one:

For Sonic and Tails's early days. There was a lot of awkwardness at first, I think. Neither of them had a close friend before, and they had to figure out how to frienship on the go. Sonic is a very free person, who always did whatever he wanted to do, and Taills was so starstruck that he was willing to drop everything if Sonic had asked him to. Not great! Luckily Sonic isn't some kind of jerk who would have taken advantage of that. (Luckily they worked it out somehow and by Adventure Tails was already the one dragging Sonic around and nagging at him for not staying on track, haha.)

But those things, combined with Tails's smarts and whatnot led to Sonic kind of overlooking the fact that Tails was really young at the time. (I do think he tends to "coddle" him more nowadays, comparatively) And maybe there was a bit of denial, too. Sonic wanted them to just be two friends hanging out, he didn't want to be responsible for a child's safety. But of course he knew subconsciously that he'd have to take on a bit of responsibility over Tails, since even disregarding the age, Tails still wasn't as strong or fast as him and he was his fan which gave Sonic some authority (bleh!) over him.

It was a very complicated matter for Sonic to figure out, but a necessary one, without it he wouldn't be out there giving speeches about the superpower of teamwork nowadays.

Whoops this one kind of shifted to Sonic's pov a bit. I do think their early days were more of a period of growth for Sonic, though Tails did become more comfortable around Sonic and wasn't scared that Sonic would just abandon him somewhere like his mom anymore (She had a good reason for leaving him with her brother and she was gonna come back for him but. She died)

Back in the early days Tails used to love hearing stories about Sonic's previous adventures and constantly begged him to tell more. At some point Sonic just started making things up because he run out of stories and Tails wouldn't believe him, haha. He didn't know about that until he was reading a book and realized that he already knew that story. But Sonic putting on his storytelling voice always reminds Tails of when he was little.

Ok I'm in a Sonic mood right now. So I'm gonna tell ya'll my thoughts on each of the Sonic shows in the order they came out. However, I haven't seen two of them, and will tell you why. Now let's begin!

The Adventures Of Sonic The Hedgehog

This show is hilarious. And honestly, the way it depicts Sonic and Tails' brotherly bond is not only heartwarming, it's held up in the games. And modern, goofy Eggman reminds me a lot of Dr. Robotnik from this show. So honestly, it's characterization of characters holds up pretty well. It's funny, charming, and at times surprisingly heartwarming. 8/10

Sonic The Hedgehog Saturday Morning Cartoon

I'ma be honest, I haven't seen this show, and I never will. Thank Toxic fans. Sonally shippers getting mad at Sonamy shippers like me. People telling you that all the other shows are inferior and you NEED to watch SatAM or your not a real Sonic Fan, etc. The fanbase is keeping me away, and I know I will not be able to enjoy it because of this. Sonic Underground

This show... so back in the day, my parents bought DVDs of the Super Mario Brothers Super Show, The Adventures Of Super Mario Bros 3, and Super Mario World. On each of these, there were previews for other DiC cartoons. On all three were ads for Sonic Underground. And me and bro wanted that, so we rented some DVDs. And I LOVED it. First of all, yeah I know people think Tails was replaced by Sonia and Manic, but being honest, Sonic's dynamic with those two, while still a sibling dynamic, is not the same as his dynamic with Tails. And Tails could have been written in with the sibs adopting him as a younger brother. Sonia and Manic are also fun characters and I really like them. And even haters of this show have to admit the theme song is good, or at least the singer is having fun. I also like that, unlike the other 90s shows which were nature vs. Technology type things, Underground had this and some magic and Super natural elements. Honestly, concepts like this show up in the games, with ancient being sealed away like Chaos, Iblis, Dark Gaia etc. And of course the Storybook Series itself has stuff like this I have been working on a Sonic Underground Season 2 which would loosely adapt modern Sonic Stories and bring in characters from those games. I know the show is far from perfect, but this is my thoughts, not an objective review, which is why it's a 9/10 score. This is NOT objective!

Sonic X

I watched the show in Japanese with subs and I gotta say...why do people hate Chris? He's a kid, a fanboy, and I find his interactions with the cast adorable. The music in the show is also amazing, though I hear it's different in the dub. Also there are Sonamy moments which YEEEEESSSS. I also love how the show managed to pretty faithfully adapt the plots of some of the games. The Meterex Saga was something of a departure, but I still enjoyed it. 9/10

Sonic Boom

I was born in the 2000s. So I was in middle school when this show came out. And I was a Sonic fan. I had played Colors and I think I had gotten Secret Rings pretty recently, though I may have only had Colors. When I watched the first episode, I loved it. And then hated the rest of the show. Because the first episode has a pretty different tone from the rest of the show. I got over this as I got older and started rewatching the show, catching jokes that flew over my head. And while some episodes are like "why are you friends again?" Some, and most in season 2, show these guys are pretty good friends. The Shadow episodes are highlights for me. 7/10

Sonic Prime

I haven't seen this show because I don't have Netflix. I want to see it tho. Netflix is expensive/10

Sonic Boom was a gift 😭 that is one of my favorites too and I love how they made Eggman a sonamy shipper

i really do not get all the hatred sonamy fans get in the sonic fandom.

so are all other ship fandoms. i've had experience with toxic shippers of other ships. but you won’t see me generalizing the ship's fandom over them. every ship has its fair share of toxic fans. so why is it that only sonamy fans get all the heat for being toxic? i'm not denying that there are bad eggs in our fandom but i don't think its fair yo act like we're a special breed of toxic. i've seen fans of other ships with r*pe on amy yet people don't use them to generalize the whole ship's fandom.

in the 2000s-2010s, maybe we did have a lot of fans who thoight that way. but nowadays whenever sonamy fans claim its canon, its always done in a joking way. its what fans lf literally every other ship do. i've seen people jokingly say "x ship is canon" because character a looked at character b funny. but no one ever attacks them for it. so why is it that only we get attacked when a lot of the time we aren't even serious?? we KNOW our ship will never actually be canon. we KNOW sega has no intention of changing their dynamic as of now. we're just having fun with the moments we're given. especially in recent media. why do y'all froth at the mouth over that. don't like it? just ignore and block.

and to be honest? as sonamy is now, it can be considered semi canon. like, give me a platonic explanation of the "amy, i should've made up my mind sooner" line in frontiers. IF sega decides to make them a couple, their dynamic still won't change. it'll still be very subtle except they're actually a couple now and you won't even notice it. and even then no one's stopping you from liking other ships. and if they are, well the block button exists for a reason.

"but the fanfics-"

i have my beef with old sonamy fanfics. but i have a feeling the people who made them were young kids and teenagers. i'll bet a lot of them have grown up now and have better things to do in life. now i hardly see any sonamy fanfic that villainizes sally or makes sonic an asshole for the sake of angst. the more extreme shippers from the 2000s-early 2010s should not be used to judge shippers today.

imagine if i used the sonadow shippers i encountered in 2014 deviantart, who were mostly allocishet girls who shipped them because they fetishized gay men, made both of them extremely ooc (anyone remember the terms seme and uke?), and of course hated amy for getting in the way of their ship, to judge the sonadow shippers of today who are now mostly mellow and enjoy their ship in peace, it wouldn't be fair now would it?

"the age gap is problematic!!"

most of the ages in sonic make no sense! there's a line in sonic forces where infinite claims sonic has defeated eggman for decades, and sonic's only supposed to be 15. granted using sonic forces may not be the best example but it shows how little sega cares about the ages. and now they've even been renoved from sonic channel. AND even ian flynn himself has said not to worry about pairings like sonamy and knuxouge because there's nothing wrong with them.

and i KNOW people are gonna take this to mean "so shipping things like s0nt@ils is okay now??" no, because tails is still coded as a little kid. sonic and most of the cast are coded as teenagers.

there's people who ship tails and fiona, and that's an actual toxic ship with an actual problematic age gap. but they don't get half the heat that sonamy shippers get.

really now? i guess my lgbt cars has expired guys. maybe that's a good thing because i was born and raised in a country where its illegal to be lgbt and my parents are kinda religious. and even the country where i'm originally from is pretty homophobic despite gay marriage being decriminalized. who knew all it took to solve those problems was to ship sonamy?? thanks guys.

Can we talk about Sonic X TailAmy for a moment?

Disclaimer: if you disagree with me, that's fine. If you prefer Sonamy over Tailamy, go right ahead. But remember this is my opinion based on observations and research. I would appreciate it if Sonamy shippers don't try to convince me why Sonamy is such a beautiful well-written canon ship and why I'm bad for not shipping it. You wouldn't like it if I did that to you would you? Then don't do that to me ok?

So I was rewatching Sonic X for refreshment of what's happening and the context behind it and noticed something interesting in the Chaos arc I never really thought about.

Amy gets captured and becomes prisoner to Eggman just right after Tails received a massive head and arm injury from a plane crash that could easily worsen if he keeps pushing himself. Think about it, Tails could've chosen to stay at home and heal and let Sonic do all the work saving Amy by himself, especially considering Sonic is a more well-known hero than he is, his X Tornado is damaged and the Station Square City is in chaos at this time. But instead, he got into the X Tornado again, got into a dangerous battle with Eggman and LITERALLY PUSHED THROUGH ANOTHER CRASH to help Sonic save Amy all while Amy was emoing over Sonic as usual! Tails was willing to pretty much risk his life for Amy's sake! He risked his life for her so much that Sonic had to assign him to simply fly Amy back home to safety while he finishes dealing with Eggman!

How is this different from those "SonAmy moments" where Sonic saves Amy from danger himself? Because Sonic is a well-known hero with a habit of risking his life to save his friends, so saving Amy makes it not really that special since he helps his other friends in a similar manner. So if Amy is in trouble and Sonic has to help her, we know this is predictable for him for his role. Tails on the other hand is not a regular hero like Sonic and is usually shyer and more unsure of himself while Sonic likes to show himself off. And note that piloting machines is dangerous for someone his age even for a skilled pilot like him. Yet despite all this, Tails was still willing to push through a life-and-death situation to make sure his friend is safe while injured that even Sonic and Chuck worried about him forcing himself.

Another thing it is different from those "SonAmy moments" is that actions spoke louder than visual effects and feels. They weren't trying to make it romantic and they didn't feel the need to give Amy emotional issues to show she cares for Tails, yet that moment showed that Tails does love Amy enough to put her life above his own even though he is not Amy's romantic pursuit. With Sonamy, Amy was somehow felt the need to be either given obnoxious weepy melodrama or turned into a violent psycho and makes Sonic look like a jerk for not fitting into her ideal mold of how she views him and then they think they can make up for it by putting them in a pretty setting with cheesy romantic 80s anime style music in the background and Sonamy fanatics somehow eat it up, which I find unhealthy and unromantic at the end of the day.

But no, Tails can have Cosmo instead even though she's gonna have to die soon to save the universe. Whether or not their personalities and goals are compatible or the fact that they're in the middle of a space war with Cosmo's dad who's literally trying to destroy the universe doesn't matter. Let's make an episode where Vector takes advantage of Tails' feelings and tries to force them into a relationship they're not ready for simply because he was bored. Then make Tails and Cosmo accidentally fall into Amy's trap for Sonic and fall madly in love and then shortly afterwards, make Tails have to kill her for the sake of the universe and leave him emotionally unstable by the end of the show. Yeah, totally #Truelove and #RelationshipGoals! Why do Anime creators particularly seem to think that being emotionally unstable over crushes is healthy for relationships? Because a country's culture made by imperfect humans says so? When Cosmo's death tragically impacted Tails, who decided to spend time with him and cheer him up? Was it his number 1 BFF Sonic? Nope, it was Cream AND Amy. It's sad when you realize that Tails and Amy make each other more calmer and happier than their own respective crushes do...

Would you at least like to see Sally Again?

I'll start by asking that you bear with me, as my answer will be rather long due to it not being a simple yes or no despite the structure of the question. The problem as such is that I approach the subject from several different points of view, and they don't all land on the same answer. A simple both undermines the complexity of my relationship with the subject matter, and I feel does not satisfactorily address why it is not. To begin then I'll break down the "no reasons and then move on to the "yes" reason. Of the "no" reasons, the simplest is just that Sally never entertained me. Back when I was a kid and dropped anything originating out of SEGA of America (SoA) due to thinking my then favorite character, Metal Sonic, was about to appear in SatAM only to get roboticized Uncle Chuck, Sally nor the Freedom Fighters had any pull to make me regret it. In fact, while I remembered the tonally dark art direction and that they used their own character rather than Eggman, I actually forgot about the Freedom Fighters themselves. It wasn't until Generations first trailer came out and I finally got involved with the online fandom that I even heard about them again. But there was no nostalgia on my end as they never appealed to me enough as characters to care. However, vitriol quickly started to paint my perspective. For the next two "no" reasons it must absolutely be noted that I am an Amy fan, she's my second favorite character in the IP after only Sonic (still love Metal though), and exclusively a SonAmy shipper for ships involving Sonic himself. This bias unquestionable paints my perspective, especially learning about the shipping wars on the back end combined with the entitlement of Sally fans to insist that Sally should replace he character made by one of Sonic's creators in the games. As someone who is hugely behind the creative vision of Sonic's creators, this becomes another point of emphasis on my bias. During those early years in the fandom, Sally, the Freedom Fighters, and Archie Sonic on a whole became a personal affront to me and it would take me several years to grow up and actually give them a chance. However, even then, Sally only started to appeal to me when after the SGW and she appeared to have a sisterly relationship with Amy. At this point I was actually growing invested in her character, but as soon as it was time to travel the world they had no further interactions before Archie's end relegating her back to being uninteresting to me. More so than that though, just from he position of being an Amy fan and a SonAmy shipper, I don't want to see Amy's name dragged through the mud again by her own most vile of fans who hate Sally and would feel threatened if she was brought back (yeah, I've experienced being a victim of the nastiness of Amy fans just because I look at Amy differently from other fans), nor by the unpleasant and entitled Sally fans and Sonally shippers who would unquestionably come out of the woodwork to attack Amy , her fans, and insist she isn't needed now that Sonic's real love interest has finally returned. I don't want to see the shipping wars return, and that's enough reason on it's own to not want to see Sally back.

The game throws these at you like there is no tomorrow, right when you start the game. I zones out after the first two and I feel like I missed out on some important stuff ^^'

I think you can tell that this will be a more story-heavy game then most Sonic-Games were, just by the fact that it starts with an Eggman-Cutscene.

I don't know why games these days love to pretend they are glitching? I've seen that A LOT in games lately. I know mostly it shows you that you are in Cyberspace or something like that... but especially right at the beginning of a game it seems rather weird. Like... is this supposed to happen? ^^'

I think I accidentally crashed my game...

Sonic is such a showoff. Despite everything it still feels like his chances to die in a plane-crash are much higher than Tails - and if you remember how often the Tornado has crashed already with Tails in it, that has to mean something XD

(BTW... I love Sonic games. Its a big part of my childhood. We had a Sega Mega Drive for whatever reason and I always watched my Cousins play Sonic games. And when I was older I owned Sonic 3 and Knukkles on PC and my former best Friend and I played it in Co-Up-Mod. HOWEVER I always played Tails because I was so bad at those games that playing Sonic myself would have gotten us constantly Game Over. These days... sadly, no one plays these games with me anymore ((I am such a loner and the few people that I have in my life don't like to play - or at least not games like these...)) so I have to play them myself. But... you will see, I suck at them XD)

Does this count as crashing the Tornado? Because I feel like singing "Oooops! Sega did it again! It crashed to Tornado..." or something XD Its like a classic running-gag at this point ^^'

My first impression of the game at the current "Just after the tutorial" - Moment is that the handling of Sonic is not very easy. And he is... slow when you don't boost ^^' I am used to him rolling around at the speed of sound, if you get me XD Fighting might need some... uh... WeMod help too, if I take a closer look at my next Guardian-Enemy *lol*
