Jack and Effra.

Sufficiently gaudy Lady of Rats. Effra takes her name from the main body of water that runs through Tistow, a great river. She's a great deity that's adopted the river as her home and sailors and dockworkers alike, as her subjects.

The lore we came up for Effra reflects a folklore figure of 19th century London known as Queen of Rats. She's a mischievous woman with ratlike features, blessing the children of the river with her gifts and cursing any man that unwittingly discovers her true identity.

Effra is a motherly figure, and one of the gods whose company Jack tolerates. Their shared fondness for the myriad small, scalytailed beasts that roam the city's streets helps of course. She can be pushy with her affections, often referring to him as her 'kitten' (baby rat) but is respectful of his discomfort with physical contact.

For anyone interested in Modern Welsh Folk (I know it's unlikely but I can't resist) here's a run down.

Y Cwilt (The Quilt) is about the comfort of telling stories, especially folk stories. In Wales the Welsh language was actually made illegal for a long, long time. The language and therefore the history and culture only survived through music and stories. I'm pretty sure the quilt is also a metaphor for patching together this history and the old stories to hold us together.

This is from Mari Mathias' album Annwn - Annwn is the Welsh Otherworld, where the giants, the fairies, fae, wild hunt and other strange creatures come from.

If anyone wants atmospheric Welsh witchcraft music (very niche I know) I can also recommend Pan O'wn y Gwanwyn (when I was in springtime) it's seriously haunting and spooky.

And Annwn, also by Mari Mathias where in the music video she gets turned into an owl.

Also Byta dy Bres (eat your money) by Gwilym Bowen-Rhys where just before the end it sounds like an actual curse on capitalism. It probably is...

I got about 4 chapters in to Women who Run with the Wolves - Clarissa Pinkola Estès (which was very interesting but hard work) before I got distracted by fanfiction so here's the latest:

This has everything... FBI partners, magic!stiles, fake relationship/real feelings, strange new world, BAMF!Stiles and the whole world is so much fun (except Talia but somebody has to be the bad guy I suppose) and Stiles is hilarious.

Blood on the Blade is a continuation of the pure joy/fun vibe (with a tiny dose of angst). It's So Good I wrote an entire run down to my friend complete with my top 5 greatest Stiles moments. It's SO well written and so well described, please consider giving it a chance (provided it passes the tag check!)

Currently watching?

I'm about two seasons in to Superman and Lois but I struggle watching TV these days. It's hard finding the time.

That said, I did binge Fallout... Which I loved!

I'm also watching Clarksons farm because while I don't particularly like Clarkson, I am a country farm girl at heart and I miss the farm year.

And there's a few series that have recently come out I'm curious to watch.

Lee Hwan, contrairement à ses amis, n’a jamais rien vu d’autre que WICKED. C’est au cœur du laboratoire qu’il est né, et c’est au cœur du laboratoire qu’il grandit. Hwan ne devrait pas pouvoir se plaindre - après tout, il est un enfant désiré. Mais à quel prix, finalement? Parce que ses parents ne veulent pas spécialement d’un enfant à proprement parler. Ils veulent une expérience, un rat de laboratoire. Quelque chose qui permettra de les faire bien voir par l’agence, pour laquelle ils travaillent. Avec la crise de la Braise sur les bras, de plus en plus, on parle d’expérimenter sur des enfants - c’est leur chance, donc, d’apporter leur pierre à l’édifice. Un enfant, eux, ils n’ont pas besoin d’en enlever, ils en ont un tout prêt. C’est comme ça qu’ils l’élèvent, donc, les premières années. Comme une putain d’expérience. Hwan ne connaît pas la chaleur de l’amour parental, ne sait pas ce que c’est, un sourire, dire “je t’aime”, et ne reçoit jamais un tant soit peu d’affection. Hwan, dans le fond, est juste seul. 

Et puis, quand il a dix ans à peu près, il quitte ce qui lui sert d’appartement au sein des laboratoires, et découvre sa propre chambre, aux côtés de celle d’un gosse visiblement traumatisé qui passe son temps à pleurer, Seo-Joon. Pour la première fois de sa vie, Hwan n’est plus seul. Et il a à peu près le même âge quand il fait la rencontre de Ji-Hae, qui traverse une situation similaire, fils d’une des directrices de WICKED. Mais Hwan, lui, se délecte de ses nouvelles amitiés - il est prêt à endurer toutes les expériences de WICKED, s’il peut passer ses soirées en compagnie de ses amis. Après Seo-Joon et Ji-Hae, Hwan fait également la rencontre de Minjun et de Tae-Hee. Et ce dernier, aux yeux de Hwan, ça n’est pas n’importe qui. L’enfant qui assiste les infirmiers, c’est celui qui soulage tous ses maux, de plus d’une façon. 

Mais la situation dans les laboratoires devient de plus en plus insoutenable - Hwan et Ji-Hae connaissant les lieux mieux que les autres garçons mettent alors en place une tentative d’évasion. Mais ils ne sont, finalement, que des enfants, et lamentablement, leur essai échoue. Ils se font attraper rapidement, et aussi rapidement, ils sont punis. Leur sanction? Interdiction de se fréquenter. Et le moins que l’on puisse dire, c’est que Hwan ne vit pas tellement bien cette séparation. Ses parents, qui sont plus de simples géniteurs qu’autre chose, se retrouvent avec un adolescent rebelle sur les bras, en proie à une crise perpétuelle face à l’autorité. Il refuse, les expériences, la torture, tout, tant qu’il ne retrouve pas ses amis.

Et puis, Ji-Hae disparait.

Et puis, Minjun.

Hwan ne comprend pas bien qu’il est le prochain, quand il voit Tae-Hee pour la dernière fois, quand ce dernier lui injecte quelque chose, mais pour la première fois depuis longtemps, Hwan sourit. Il a retrouvé celui qu’il aimait. 

Et il l’oublie.

Il oublie tout, alors qu’il ouvre les yeux dans la Boîte, cet immense ascenseur qui l’amène au Bloc. Il n’a plus que son nom en tête - et il n’a que ça à offrir aux quelques garçons déjà présents dans le Bloc, dont deux, qu’il n’a pas conscience de déjà connaître. Ji-Hae et Minjun. L’un est devenu le chef du Bloc, l’autre est le maton des coureurs. Et Dieu qu’il en faut du temps, à Hwan, pour comprendre les règles du Bloc, et pour chercher à les appliquer - durant ses premiers jours, donc, les conflits sont récurrents avec les autres. Ce n’est pas entièrement de sa faute, cependant. Après tout, il a été envoyé dans le Bloc avec ce même état de rébellion qu’il connaissait dans le laboratoire. Mais sa hargne a une utilité, et sa place, il finit par la trouver. Il devient Bâtisseur, puis maton des Bâtisseurs, quand celui qu’il remplace finit par mettre fin à ses jours, ne supportant pas la pression du Bloc. Un corps de plus, finalement, que Hwan doit jeter dans le cimetière, au fond de la forêt.

Et Hwan n’est… pas facile à vivre. Il est constamment fermé, effraie les petits nouveaux, avec son visage dur, et il n’a jamais vraiment l’air d’être de bonne humeur. Mais sa froideur, et sa rigueur, l’empêche d’être trop affecté émotionnellement quand il s’agit d’aller enterrer ceux qui abandonnent, ou ceux qui se perdent aux mains des Griffeurs. 

Mais il y a aussi ceux à qui Hwan s’est profondément attaché. Ji-Hae, et Minjun, évidemment, mais aussi Seo-Joon, le cuisinier terrorisé, et puis, Tae-Hee, leur medjack. Visiblement, peu importe le monde dans lequel ils évoluent, Hwan est tout simplement programmé pour aimer Tae-Hee, et le Bloc ne fait pas exception. Avec le temps, finalement, Hwan se dit que sa vie, il pourrait la faire ici, dans cette communauté, que ça ne lui poserait pas de problèmes, s’ils maintenaient un semblant de paix. 

Il n’a toujours pas compris, Hwan, que ça n’était pas lui qui décidait, et que le Bloc avait ses propres règles.

Et le Bloc, lui, a décidé qu’il était temps pour eux de partir.

𝐡 𝐢 𝐬 𝐭 𝐫 𝐢 𝐯 𝐢 𝐚 ;

⁕ Hwan n’a jamais tellement hésité à se servir de la violence si nécessaire, notamment parce qu’il est un savant mélange d’impulsivité et de besoin de protection. On dit souvent qu’à lui seul, Hwan pourrait causer un massacre, si on venait à s’en prendre à ses amis.

⁕ Hwan fait partie de ceux qui sont immunisés, ce qu’il apprendra de la bouche de ses parents, quand ils retourneront à WICKED. Ils ne feront preuve d’aucune compassion face à ce qu’ils lui ont fait subir, préférant au contraire se féliciter de la réussite de leur expérience. Hwan finira par les abattre - pas par la colère, mais par pitié pour eux.

⁕ Hwan exprimera plus d’une fois sa fierté quant au fait qu’un grand nombre des aménagements du Bloc lui soit dû - une façon, pour lui, d’avoir su se rendre utile. Il n’hésitera pas, même, à avancer comme argument le fait de ne pas vouloir quitter le Bloc, pour ne pas avoir à quitter ses plus belles œuvres d’art. En réalité, c’est sa manière à lui de cacher sa peur, face au monde extérieur.

⁕ Ce qui fait dégoupiller Hwan en trois secondes, c’est le fait qu’on s’en prenne à ses amis. C’est cela, son trait de caractère principal : Hwan est particulièrement (trop) protecteur avec les quatre autres Blocards à qui il s’est inévitablement allié. Considérant que c’est son rôle de les protéger, il vaudrait mieux ne pas croiser son chemin lorsqu’il est en pleine de crise de rage - de nombreux meubles du Bloc ont déjà subi les conséquences des accès de colère de Hwan.

𝐚 𝐩 𝐩 𝐞 𝐚 𝐫 𝐚 𝐧 𝐜 𝐞 ;

Physiquement, Hwan est grand, et plutôt bien bâti - ce qui va franchement lui servir au sein du Bloc. Il apparaît donc assez impressionnant physiquement, et n’hésite pas à montrer ses muscles pour se montrer relativement intimidant. Il a les cheveux longs, parce qu’il n’a jamais pris la peine de les couper - mais il a tendance à attacher ces derniers, négligemment, parce qu’ils le gênent dans son travail régulier. Sur son visage se trouve une cicatrice, le long de sa joue droite, résultat d’une rencontre hasardeuse entre un Blocard et lui, durant ses premiers jours de Bloc. Dans le Bloc, il n’est pas rare de voir Hwan sans son tee-shirt, et même si ça ne lui permet probablement pas de se protéger correctement, c’est surtout pour narguer Tae-Hee, son amour de toujours. 

𝐩 𝐞 𝐫 𝐬 𝐨 𝐧 𝐚 𝐥 𝐢 𝐭 𝐲 ;

Au regard de sa personnalité, Hwan peut être perçu comme relativement bourrin. Il n’a pas de filtre, n’hésite pas à mettre les pieds dans le plat, et privilégie toujours la vérité, même si elle est dure à entendre. Son sens de l’honnêteté ne comprend donc pas l’idée de mettre des gants pour dire les choses, ce qui renforce définitivement l’idée selon laquelle il est particulièrement intimidant. De plus, Hwan est plutôt impulsif. Véritable tête brûlée, il a cependant un sens aigü de la survie, avec un sacré instinct de conservation

Process Book Test Layout

I want to go quite bright and colourful with my process book as I feel like that is my style and I can have a lot of fun with it.

These are my first attempts at project introductions and a contents page. I am torn between the two of them and haven't decided which one I will be selecting yet.

I like sans-serif fonts the most, apart from Impact, so I looked in the Adobe font library at some fonts that caught my eye. I selected the heaviest weight in the tags section and ensured that the ones I downloaded had a large font family so that I could use a light version as my body text.

I decided on Effra as I preferred some of the letters in comparison to Elsa, and I thought it might be fun to add in a handwritten style font so added in P22 Slogan for a more graffiti/calligraphy feel to it that I can use for the title pages for introducing projects.

I also looked into a colour palette but ended up just selecting every colour of the rainbow in a shade I liked.
