It’s called Have a Moscow Mule. I think I’m becoming preoccupied by Russian thematics as I am jus a bit more than halfway through Tolstoy’s epic novel, Anna Karenina. I’m listening to the audiobook as I paint... only 13 more hours left! It is, by far, the longest story I’ve experienced in a while (maybe ever?!). Bathroom art! This curved wall wraps around the shower in our main bathroom. It was begging for a loose canvas to be pinned around it. I love how I can walk around the space, surrounded by my art... I finished the design of my happy little painting... Yay for achieving goals! After these photos were taken, I coated this painting with a couple of layers of satin varnish, and set it out to dry in my studio, overnight. It will be packed up and shipped to its new home next week, once the paint has had a chance to cure. I feel good about it. My newest big painting is now finished. And by that, I mean that I have signed and varnished it!! Such a great feeling, to take these photos after applying that last coat of satin varnish! Depending on the painting, sometimes I use matte, satin, or gloss varnish. For this one I chose satin because it has only a slight sheen: just enough to show the texture of the paint, but not so shiny that there’s a glare. The kind of varnish I use really depends on my mood. Scroll through and take a look at my dots, and let me know what you think! This has been a difficult week for me. I am going through some personal issues (I am not ready to get into it just yet, lest the floodgates break wide open)... but I thank heavens for my studio: it is a place of respite, where I can listen to my audiobooks, paint, and temporarily hide away from reality. I think the bathroom is the most fun room in our whole house! Now is the time to find ways around obstacles that might otherwise hinder our day-to-day sense of wholeness. We adjust the way we go about our days, in order to keep ourselves, our loved ones, and even those people who we haven’t met yet, safe. Almost everything we do, we do a little differently, in order to keep the pandemic at bay... An invisible intruder, it feels like. Being invisible, it’s sometimes hard to believe that it’s among us. We want to relax, just for a minute.. We want to go back to the way things were... but that is when the intruder can find its ugly way in. Please listen to the experts: wear a mask when out in public; wash your hands regularly; cough into your elbow. Let’s beat this unwelcome intruder together.
