I was re-reading your Jarvises as Parents fic, and I think Ana would send her daughter to prom with a thigh holster, just in case. And Peggy would definitely make sure you know self-defense so youā€™re prepared if anyone tries something.

there's so much comedic potential packed into the fact that the core cast are teenagers though. i think teens are some of the funnest to write.
crystal springing internet memes on the boys. they have no defense against this. they're shocked every time. they are also NEVER prepared for a good "smells like updog"
prom plot. crystal never got one. charles does a little promposal. cute right?
none of them know how to drive.
crystal keeps sticking gum under the desk and edwin's gonna lose it.
charles letting niko do his makeup and oh god it looks awful don't laugh
edwin writes deep dark weeping heart poetry and keeps it in a diary in his desk drawer under lock and key. niko finds it anyway. rip edwin payne you would have liked MCR
etc

Idea taken from an episode of Teen Titans: au where Esther doesn't have unquenchable beef with the dead boys detectives, instead, she's a local villain with a son named Monty who sees Edwin once, and instantaneously develops a crush on him
So upon asking Esther threatens the boys she'll do something bad to the town unless Edwin agrees to take Monty to his high school prom
Charles is seething and insists he's gonna go to that stupid prom as well, to "make sure Edwin's not in danger", while Crystal and Niko have to find whatever threat Esther has in her arsenal (the snake?) and neutralize it so Edwin can be freed from his date (and the town won't be damaged, but who cares about that, am I right, definitely not blinded by jealousy Charles)

We have a nice mix of genres available to you this week! Which of these books are you interested in?
Ashā€™s Cabin by Jen Wang First Second
Ash has always felt alone. Adults ignore the climate crisis. Other kids Ashā€™s age are more interested in pop stars and popularity contests than in fighting for change. Even Ashā€™s family seems to be sleepwalking through life. The only person who ever seemed to get Ash was their Grandpa Edwin. Before he died, he used to talk about building a secret cabin, deep in the California wilderness. Did he ever build it? What if itā€™s still there, waiting for him to come backā€¦or for Ash to find it? To Ash, that maybe-mythical cabin is starting to feel like the perfect place for a fresh start and an escape from the miserable feeling of alienation that haunts their daily life. But making the wilds your home isnā€™t easy. And as much as Ash wants to be aloneā€¦can they really be happy alone? Can they survive alone? From New York Times ā€“bestselling author and illustrator Jen Wang comes a singularly affecting story about self-discovery, self-reliance, and the choice to live when it feels like you have no place in the world.
The Dark We Know by Wen-yi Lee Zando ā€“ Gillian Flynn Books
Art student Isadora Chang swore never to return to Slater. Growing up, Isa never felt at ease in the repressive former mining town, even before she realized she was bisexualā€”but after the deaths of two of her childhood friends, Slater went from feeling claustrophobic to suffocating. Isa took off before the town could swallow her, too, even though it meant leaving behind everything she knew, including her last surviving friend Mason. When Isaā€™s abusive father kicks the bucket, she agrees to come back just long enough to collect the inheritance. But then Mason, son of the local medium, turns up at the cemetery with a revelation and a plea: their friends were murdered by a supernatural entity, and he needs Isa to help stop the evilā€”before it takes anyone else. When Isa begins to hear strange songs on the wind, and eerie artwork fills her sketchbook that she canā€™t recall drawing, sheā€™s forced to stop running and confront her past. Because something is waiting in the shadows of Slaterā€™s valleys, something that feeds on the pain and heartbreak of its children. Whatever it is, it knows Isaā€™s backā€¦ and it wonā€™t let her escape twice.
Kisses, Codes, and Conspiracies by Abigail Hing Wen Feiwel & Friends
Tan Lee finds himself embroiled in an unusual love triangle, all while trying to defuse a heist, unravel a conspiracy, and navigate the most complicated babysitting assignment ever in this YA novel by national bestselling author Abigail Hing Wen. After a magical kiss at Prom, best friends Tan Lee and Winter Woo agree to cool it off, a plan that goes awry when their parents jointly head off to Hawaii and leave Tan and Winter to babysit Tan's sister Sana together. If that isn't complicated enough, Tan's ex-girlfriend from Shanghai arrives on his doorstep with money stolen from her billionaire father and thugs on her heels. Tan soon finds himself on the run, trying to out-manuever international hackers and protect his friends, family and sister - and his own heart.
The Maid and the Crocodile by Jordan Ifueko Amulet Books
The smallest spark can bind two hearts . . . or start a revolution. In the magic-soaked capital city of Oluwan, country bumpkin Small Sade needs a jobā€”preferably as a maid, with employers who donā€™t mind her unique appearance and unlucky foot. But before she can be hired, she accidentally binds herself to a powerful god known only as the Crocodile, who is rumored to devour pretty girls. Small Sade entrances the Crocodile with her secret: she is a Curse Eater, gifted with the ability to alter peopleā€™s fates by cleaning their houses. The handsome god warns that their fates are bound, but Small Sade evades him, launching herself into a new career as the Curse Eater of a swanky inn. She is determined to impress the wealthy inhabitants and earn her place in Oluwan City . . . assuming her secret-filled pastā€”and the revolutionary ambitions of the Crocodile Godā€”donā€™t catch up with her. But maybe there is more to Small Sade. And maybe everyone in Oluwan City deserves more, too, from the maids all the way to the Anointed Ones.
Navigating With You written by Jeremy Whitley & illustrated by Cassio Ribeiro Maverick
Neesha Sparks is a disabled, vocal community activist with a passion for costume design. Gabby Graciana is an optimistic surfer - and, like Neesha, a new kid at school. When the two girls discover that they like the same manga series, Navigator Nozomi, they become more than just fellow new kids. But it was more than just having read the same book series--neither of them had finished it! Soon, they become new friends on a mission - to track down the remaining Navigator Nozomi books. This slice-of-life romance follows the two girls as they adventure across North Carolina to find each book, with their story intercut with the tales of Navigator Nozomi. Neesha and Gabby find more than just the books thoughā€”they find acceptance, friendship, understanding, and love.

Hi, dynamics time. (I am stuck in the human snake (I forgot the word in english so bear with me) to buy prom tickets and this is gonna take a while
Also, I'm on the fourth episode
CHARLES X EDWIN
They need to kiss, that's a must
I love how they know so much about each other (i.e. Charles looking at Edwin closing his fists and immediately knowing something is wrong based on something that hapenned almost 20 years ago) and have known each other for 30 years but are still so oblivious to some shit ("what do you mean Edwin is jealous of you?" "What do you mean Charles has some deep daddy issues?")
These guys have 3 moods: super competent; they share one (1) braincells and it's on vacation; they are the cutest duo to ever exist. Honestly? Those are the only ones that people need
They're just so goddamn cute
Soulmates energy
CHARLES X CRYSTAL
I love how they know each other for like a week but if you saw them on the streets you would think they have known each other their entire lives (actually you would think that Crystal is crazy for talking to herself in the middle of the street but whatever)
They match so well, it feels like two puzzle clicking together
But I don't want them to turn into a romantic relationship (I wouldn't have less consideration for the show or anything similar to that, I just wouldn't appreciate it much)
ALSO HER UNDERSTANDING THAT CHARLES HAS SOME DEEP TRAUMA AND TRYING TO TALK ABOUT IT YES. I've already spoke about it when talking about the characters but them actually seeing Charles trauma is so important to me
CRYSTAL X EDWIN
I love their bickering so much
I can't wait to see one of them being in mortal danger and the other getting worried sick but completely deny it when it is mentioned afterwards šŸ«¶
I need to mention the scene where they're talking about how Charles is stuck in a loop because that has altered my brain chemistry
Like the characters are AKNOWLADGING THAT THE CHARACTER THAT IS ALWAYS HAPPY SHOULD NOT BE THIS HAPPY
I SWEAR I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANY CHARACTER DO THAT
IT'S ALWAYS THE "oh this sunshine? Traumatised? No way"
I'm glad that I took that out of my chest

Friendship Showdown: Preliminary Round #37
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Propaganda:
Lollipop and Gelatin (Battle for Dream Island): silly!!! silliness!!! lollipop is a girlboss and girlfailure at the same time whos just a tad bit too sarcastic, and gelatin has no fucking idea whats happening at all times. its like lollipop is babysitting him most times and thats a rlly fuckin funny mental image, i mean cmon now.
Scott Howl and Vera Oberlin (Monster Prom): they just love each other so much, vera basically sworn off friendship but scott found his way into her heart, she is so smart and he is so dumb but even tho they don't see eye to eye on things they are always there to support each other, they have similar backgrounds in losing their parents and being bullied and vera saw that and wanted to be a positive role model for him. idk i love them pls play monster prom
Peggy Carter and Edwin Jarvis (Agent Carter): Literally the best dynamic! Sheā€™s a girlboss, heā€™s a malewife, together they take down evil people and sass Howard Stark!

We've all acknowledged that Casey's the one who theoretically lives in delusion as far as her relationship with Derek is concerned. But the rest of the family knew. Everyone knew except for Casey and I find that so beautiful.
I headcanon Derek accepts he has (ugh) feelings for Casey in the soccer cheating episode (my beloved) because he spends an entire weekend that could have been spent doing literally anything else walking around the house like a zombie in existential crisis. Which, to be fair, is probably an apt description of Derek at the time: the girl he knows he's never been neutral about is the girl he happens to romantically care about and be attracted to. It's made worse because she's the one girl he could never have, but she's right there. All the time.
Edwin realizes that in that episode as well; he's the one who witnesses Derek's scheming and crisis the most. Derek calls Edwin in and there's way too many feelings on his face as Derek's barely able to conceal that he cares. He already knows he cares about Lizzie and there was no crisis about that, no moping around for three days. But Casey? This is the most emotional thing Edwin has witnessed in the entire show from Derek.
Sam probably figures out Casey's feelings around when Casey blows off their monthaversary to spy on Derek's date with Emily. I think the fight in the bullying episode is when he realizes Derek actually has feelings that are deeper than base level attraction, though (I will die on the hill that the fight was a huge moment in their relationship). He's a little dumb, alright?
Dennis, for all that he is neglecting his daughters (because boy, he wrote the fucking book on that one!), realizes once Derek calls him. It's implied Derek basically guilt trips him into coming back and that is, to his credit, exactly what happens. Derek wouldn't do that for someone he doesn't give a fuck about, like he pretends not to. Dennis assumes it'll go away (it doesn't) and that even if Casey reciprocates, it'll never be acted on (it might be.)
Marti realizes in the forcefield activated episode. She's witnessed the largest extent of both of their feelings in that episode: Derek's genuine care and kindness as far as her anxiety goes and Casey's determination to help him succeed because that's how she shows her care. It's all culminated (for her, at least) in the scene where Derek finds out he passed his exam and him and Casey do their dorky high five thing before she asks him to help at the camp for another week. Derek agrees and he's grinning at Casey and Casey is giving him her best puppy dog eyes and grinning and Marti knows because, well, it's pretty damn obvious.
Emily knows at prom, junior year. Yeah, she has to help clean up Derek's mess, but he wouldn't want to fix it if Casey didn't matter to him. She's known that Casey matters, but Derek even showed up to the stupid dance to make sure she had a good night. And once she realizes that Derek has feelings, well, it's so much easier to see that Casey does too. Knowing one of them is in love with the other makes everything click into place.
Max figures it out after the breakup. It makes sense; Casey had ditched him for Derek a million times and every time, Derek had grand gestured his way back into her good graces.
Kendra probably realizes that Derek loves Casey around the episode where she tries to set her up. He attempts sabotage, which is normal, but he gives a shit about her and it's gross and she kinda likes him more for it. (I headcanon Kendra, Derek and Casey all stay friends because that's basically canon anyway.)
Truman... When Truman first comes to the school, I'm placing bets that everyone tells him Casey's dating Derek. Teenagers are brutal and they weren't super far off the mark. And I assume his actions after that are with the understanding that there's more truth to those words than either of them would admit.
Ralph, I love him very much, he sort of assumes they're dating from like a week after she moves to London on half the time. I also presume he's high for half his screentime.
Lizzie realizes at the dance competition. She sees that and there's this chemistry she can't deny and it just clicks.
Nora and George live in willful ignorance from the bathroom scene in 1.03 on. They just will not acknowledge there's anything going on there because there isn't anything, technically.
Sally probably figures it out after her and Derek break up. It's probably very casual, just happens on a Tuesday or something when she sees a picture of the two of them on Facebook or something.
Casey's the last to know. She only realizes it when they actually have to acknowledge they're going to university together, four and a half hours away from the family, the people who have been the forefront of her denial (which she quite liked, it's incredibly rude that it had to be interrupted for this emotional crisis) and that's why she says "same difference." It's obvious she doesn't mean it, but she's trying to place the boundary: introduce me as a sister so I can shove you into the brother box, please.

> fmab band au babbles!
a few notes before i get started:
this is TERRIBLY MESSY!! i apologize in advanced as this is a long ramble meant for me to help organize my thoughts :p
modern highschool setting
very much centered around ling. i like him and think he deserves more content.
features edling (ed x ling), a broken up edwin, royai, and al x mei. mainly edling
iā€™m not very good at aus. sorry
i made a(n) [iffy] playlist where i slapped a bunch of songs onto for this au. here is the link if youā€™d like:
enjoy my ramblings below the cut! vvv
ling has always been an outgoing and friendly person, but has struggled to keep relationships due to his own insecurities. lan fan was one of his first official friends because sheā€™s helped him snap out of his negativity and has pushed him to be the confident person he should be
> ( she looked at him and went. ā€œdamn bitch. u really live like this.ā€ and decided to help him like he was a stray dog left out in the rain )
the insecurities in question were of him wondering if he was really worth anyoneā€™s time as a lot of people seemed to get annoyed of him (people thought him to be cocky or too much of a ā€œpick-meā€ personality)
he was also battling with his own identity as he realizes he likes Men (and women!) + wants to experiment more with his fashion (he wants to try on black nailpolish)
> ( think ling would also resonate with prom queen by beach bunny )
her encouragement led to ling being able to pursue his passion in music and arts, ending up in him creating music
the two of them were able to find their own respective talents regarding instruments and basically created a two-man band ( ft. fu funding their creative projects )
ling broke into the band room after hearing someone going ham on the drums (someone being ed) and recruited him and all his friends to join
he was really enthusiastic about this and did not even bother to ask for their names or if they could play an instrument
al is the first person to agree because heā€™s just as excited as ling is. he really wants to show off his years of piano skills to someone other than his tired old brother and an equally tired winry
winry joins shortly thereafter thinking she could get someone to coach her on how to play the guitar better (she picked it up recently because she wanted to accompany ed and al on their musical journeys)
ed is the last to reluctantly agree because he thinks ling is a bit strange at first. he ends up caving in because two people in the room keep staring at him with big puppy eyes in attempt to convince him
> ( this random kid he considered popular just invited him to join a makeshift band. what. )
as months fly by, everyoneā€™s grown to be good friends
ling can proudly say hes got a good group of friends whoā€™ll gladly make music with him. heā€™s perfectly happy and content with his life :p
until he realizes he Might have a little crush for the drummer boy
the little crush is not so little he actually has a huge fat crush on ed lmfao
the two have especially been spending a lot of time with one another during and out of schoolā€”they seem to have eachother in a lot more classes than they thought!
this makes things a little messy as ling starts writing more romantic songs (not very typical for him) and his band mates question his weird actions
basically this backfires right in lingā€™s face. he asks al about his brotherā€™s relationships and he tells ling that ed and winry have some sort of relation going on
> ( little does he know: ed is currently going through the same exact thing heā€™s going through as he questions his sexuality )
ling ends up heartbroken because he assumes that ed is straight (He has piercings, ripped jeans, and black nail polish. That boy is homo!) and starts to fall back into his old habits
like a harsh wound, his insecurities reopen once more to make ling question if all the time they spent together was a lie
> ( was it all really one-sided??? ling couldā€™ve sworn he saw ed look at him with love in his eyes. or maybe that was just his imagination??? )
ling grows distant from ed and refuses to communicate with him out of fear that 1. his worries are true 2. heā€™s homophobic 3. he himself is admitting to not being straight (like everyone thought he was)
though he notices, ed is stuck on two different worlds and canā€™t make a decision. he likes both winry and ling too much and doesnā€™t want to hurt either of them. but in order to make a choice, he must
al is practically the only one happy at this point because he meets mei somewhere along the way and theyā€™re going great :) i donā€™t want to cause alphonse any pain
lan fan is stressing out over losing her friends and the band that she knows ling worked hard to put together
fu doesnā€™t have any idea whatā€™s going on
thatā€™s what i have so far x
in short everyone is in pain (besides al and fu) and itā€™s a confusing teenage love story about kids figuring out who they are and what they want (and donā€™t want) in life
this concludes my tedtalk. thank you for coming to my show (bows)
