Michael Stark shines with a hat-trick against the Netherlands in Australia's World Cup practice match
In Trivandrum, Australia's World Cup practice match against the Netherlands was canceled due to rain, but there was plenty to celebrate on Saturday for the five-time champions.
Captain Steve Smith's splendid half-century and Michael Stark's hat-trick made headlines at Greenfield Stadium despite the rain affecting the pitch, while Mitchell Marsh got some crucial overs in before the marquee tournament. Read more : Bellingham Impresses Again as Real Madrid Tops La Liga with Girona Win After the match was reduced to 23 overs due to rain, Australian captain Pat Cummins won the toss and chose to bat first, with Smith scoring 55 runs off 42 balls, including three sixes. Dutch bowlers restricted Australia to 7-166 in their 23 overs. Glenn Maxwell, Josh Inglis, and Matthew Short were dismissed cheaply, while Cameron Green contributed 34 runs from 26 balls under cloudy conditions. Stark got a fresh over at the start of the run chase and dismantled the Netherlands' top order with a hat-trick. On his fifth delivery of the match, Stark trapped opener Max O'Dowd on the pads and then bowled a thunderbolt that shattered Ben Cooper's stumps. There were no wild celebrations from the New South Welshman, just a wry smile. Marsh, who hasn't bowled in his last ten one-day matches, provided a promising sign for Western Australia, taking 1-24 in 4.2 overs, while Marnus Labuschagne picked up a wicket with his leggies. Before a heavy downpour in the 15th over, the Netherlands were struggling at 6-84, and the match ended without any result. Colin Ackermann made 31 runs off 37 balls, remaining unbeaten, while captain Scott Edwards (14 off 10 balls) was the only other Dutch player to reach double figures. Australia will head to Hyderabad for their final practice match against Pakistan on Tuesday. But can we really be sure that the speed of light wasn’t different in the past, or perhaps in other parts of the universe? In fact, variable speed of light theories have long been used to try to explain everything from dark energy to gravity itself. Let’s explore how constant this fundamental constant really is. Namibia Knock Down Netherlands In David Wiese Show
T20 World Cup (7th Match) First Round (Group A) Namibia vs Netherlands (Abu Dhabi)
Seasoned hardcore campaigner David Wiese hit a whirlwind unbeaten 66 with four fours and five sixes in 40 balls to steer Namibia to a six-wicket victory over the Netherlands in their T20 World Cup qualifying match in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.
Namibia needed to get 98 runs in the final 10 overs in pursuit of a 165 target and Wiese took the crease with the total at 52 for 3 in 8.5 overs.
He then played his customary power-hitting innings to keep Namibia in the hunt as he batted with extreme confidence not allowing the bowlers to dictate terms until they needed to get 15 runs in the last two overs.
Weise's batting partner JJ Smit finished off the match with one over to spare as he picked 14 runs in the 19th over bowled by Logan van Beek who also helped Namibia's cause with two wide balls as well.
Earlier Netherlands opener Max O'Dowd anchored his team's innings until the last over with a top score of 70 in 56 balls that had six fours and one six after they won the toss and decided to bat first.
Dowd found an able partner in Colin Ackermann (35) to lift the side from 55 for 2 with a stand of 82 runs in 10.2 overs with run-making not easy to indulge in on a pitch that became slower as the innings progressed.
Ackermann had just one four and a six in the partnership which ended in the fourth ball of the 17th over.
It was left to Scott Edwards to do some pinch-hitting in the last two overs in which a tired Dowd sacrificed his wicket through a run-out at the bowler's end to ensure his partner had the strike in the last over.
Edwards remained unbeaten on 21 from 11 balls with two fours and a six as the Netherlands reached 164 for 4 in the 20 overs.
Scores: Netherlands 164 for 4 in 20 (Max O'Dowd 70, Colin Ackermann 35, Scott Edwards 21 not out, Jan Frylinck 2 for 36) Namibia 166 for 4 in 19 overs (Gerhard Erasmus 32, David Wiese 66 not out)

//As I am still doing some lore and historical research for Titanomachy (I’m currently working on a timeline), I think I have found Stanton’s historical “ancestors” or at least inspiration.
Dowd presents himself as a very proud and traditional man, hiding in his family cript and openly displaying his own and his ancestor’s ties to the Knight Templar - he was and techncally still is their leader.
As I was looking into the origin and history of the name “Dowd”, I have found something that sparked my interest:
“This is an anglicized form of the Olde Gaelic name O Dubhda. The Gaelic prefix "O" indicates "male descendant of", plus the personal name Dubhda, from "dubh" meaning "black". The sept claim descent from Fiacha, brother of Niall of the Nine Hostages, 4th Century King of Ireland, and for centuries the (O) Dowds were the leading sept in the ancient territory of Ui Fiachrach (comprising North Mayo, Sligo and parts of South Galway). Several clan members were bishops of the see of Killala, (Co. Mayo). In the 17th Century many (O) Dowds fought in the army of King James and their chief at that time, killed in the Battle of the Boyne (1690), is reputed to have been seven feet tall. On May 25th 1847 Michael Dowd, who embarked from Sligo, was a famine immigrant into New York.
[...] Bhrian O'Dowd, chief of Ui Fiachrach, which was dated 1354, he drove Anglo-Norman settlers from his territory, during the reign of King Edward 111, known as "The Father of the Navy", 1327 - 1377 “ (source)
Knights? New York? Doesn’t this sounds familiar? The Knights Templar were officially dissolved by an Apostolic Decree issued by Pope Clement V in 1311, but continued to operate in secret since then. I think it’s save to assume that the knights joined royal armies to keep their profession (I don’t know that much about knighthood, so please feel free to correct me here). I am not so sure about the famine part as I would guess that a family like Dowd’s was always somewhat powerful and upper class, but it also not known how well the Templar did back then - we only know that they were once weak and gain more and more power under Stanton.
I can kinda see this being some sort of real life inspiration for Dowd, or this is just one big coincidence and I am creating dots where are none. But I like it.

However, there are some fringe cases where its distinct features manifest on scales we can observe—in things like superfluids, or the interiors of collapsed stars. But it’s also possible that our entire galaxy is filled with a reverberating quantum mechanical wave that literally holds the galaxy together—and in fact explains all the dark matter that we see across the universe. And this isn’t even a fringe theory. It’s axionic dark matter. Ireland's Campher Grabs Four In Four To Rock Netherlands
T20 World Cup (3rd Match) - First Round (Group A), Abu Dhabi, ICC Men's T20 World Cup
Ireland dealt a crushing blow on the Netherlands as medium pace bowler Curtis Campher created a piece of history for himself by taking four wickets in four balls in a sensational over to win their T20 World Cup qualifying round match in Abu Dhabi on Monday.
Campher came on as the fifth bowler with the Netherlands cruising along at 51 for 2 in nine overs and what followed was a procession of wickets as the match turned on its head.
In his second ball of the over Campher had Colin Ackermann caught behind down the leg-side and in the next two balls trapped Ryan ten Doeschate and Scott Edwards leg-before to claim a well deserved hat-trick.
But Campher did not stop there and went further into history by bowling Roelof van der Merwe off an inside edge to leave Netherlands devastated at 51 for 6 from which they were never able to recover with only Max O'Dowd offering some resistance with a top score of 51 before he was the seventh out with the total at 88 in the third ball of the 17th over.
Campher finished a clear-match winner with figures of 4 for 26 as the Netherlands were bowled out for 106 in the last ball of the 20th over.
Sri Lanka's Lasith Malinga and Afghanistan's Rashid Khan are the other two bowlers to take four wickets in four balls in T20 cricket.
There was no way the Netherlands could have applied any pressure on Ireland defending a paltry total and it was only a matter of time before the match was over in the first ball of the 16th over.
Ireland's batting allrounder Gareth Delany did not waste time in wrapping up the proceedings with a brisk 44 in 29 balls with five fours and two sixes as opener Paul Stirling remained unbeaten on 30.
Scores: Netherlands 106 in 20 overs (Max O'Dowd 51, Pieter Seelaar 21, Mark Adair 3 for 9, Curtis Campher 4 for 26) Ireland 107 for 3 in 15.1 overs (Paul Stirling 30 not out, Gareth Delany 44)
