Book Bans Spreading Fast
Book Bans Spread to Iowa
Book bans are not about protecting children, but about silencing LGBT voices and controlling what is allowed to be taught to children. Authorities in Iowa are pushing for a broad crackdown on what books are allowed to be kept in school libraries. Republican Governor Kim Reynolds is backing a bill that would require every school district in the state to remove a book if it’s challenged in any one…

Recently, I've been told that, in order to be a teacher, you have to be mentally stable and transmit this peace of mind to your students. I do agree with this sentence, in fact, you are the adult who has to motivate, in my case, teenagers to develop a set of skills that will help them grow and create an identity. However, how can we face a class that is unwilling to learn and shows no interest other than talking about Instagram and spending time at home on their phones? This has been the answer I've received to the question "what are your hobbies" from one of my groups. I created an Instagram account to upload memes for my students and even used these to teach grammar. However, it's constantly a challenge to motivate my 14-year-old students who are obligated to attend the language academy due to their parents' will.
For me, this is mentally draining.

The weeks between the Tour de Suisse Women and the Giro d'Italia Women are quiet on the World Tour calendar, as most countries hold their national championships in this block. (A few, like the U.S., held them earlier in the season, for whatever reasons.) As we start to look forward to the Giro, let's take a look at some of the new road race champions for 2024 in no particular order. There's a mix of familiar faces and some new talent.
France: Juliette Labous (dsm-firmenich PostNL)
Slovenia: Urska Žigart (Liv AlUla Jayco)
Australia: Ruby Roseman-Gannon (Liv AlUla Jayco)
USA: Kristen Faulkner (EF Educaton-Cannondale)
New Zealand: Ella Wyllie (Liv AlUla Jayco)
Germany: Franziska Koch (dsm-firmenich PostNL)
Netherlands: Chantal van den Broek-Blaak (SD Worx-Protime)
Spain: Usoa Ostolaza (Laboral Kutxa-Fundación Euskadi)
Great Britain: Pfeiffer Georgi (dsm-firmenich PostNL)
And you may have heard of these last two riders:
Italy: Elisa Longo Borghini (Lidl-Trek)
Belgium: Lotte Kopecky (SD Worx-Protime)
We haven't even mentioned Canada (Olivia Baril of Movistar), Austria (Anna Kiesenhofer of Roland), Hungary (Blanka Vas of SD Worx-Protime), Switzerland (Noemi Rüegg of EF Education-Cannondale), and plenty of other countries. And apologies to the ITT fans out there, but we haven't even listed the ITT winners, mostly because you don't have to know the national champs jerseys as much in the ITT to recognize a rider like you do in the bunch. The Escape Collective has a nice run-down of both lists.

Career confusion vent below
I feel like I just need to get this off my chest. I honestly thought, or better said hoped, that I would at least somewhat figure out what to do career-wise now that I'm coming close to finishing my master's in psychology. Even after having done most of my internships, I still have no clue. It's honestly just not clicking. I value this field so much and I am interested in a wide array of topics in psychology, but it seems like I can't connect with actually working in this field? Maybe I'm being too idealistic, but at no point in my education or internships have I felt a sense of purpose. Which, you now, could easily be achieved if you work/study in a field that's centered around helping people.. I got so much more joy from doing very simple puppy classes that required far less education and training from me than any job in psychology would. I'm kind of worried I commited the past 2 years to a field I might not even go into or might end up unhappy in, while I could be steering myself into a direction I'm more passionate about. I've consciously commited to living off the bare minimum so I could pursue this goal that I most likely don't even really want. I'm kind of regretting not fully going into biology (I did one year of biology&philosophy at uni right after highschool), but I was even more confused and unsure of myself then. I am really fed up with being an on/off uni student for the past 10 years and thus making myself not fully financially independent and STILL being unsure about my future career plans. Right now, animal behavior, wildlife conservation and ecology would be my top choices, but all of these would require additional education that I can't really afford atm. I guess for now, I'll have to figure something out with the educaton I already have. It's just very frustrating considering I've dragged out my education and career decisions for over 10 years.

Writing out some thoughts about my upcoming master project or art in general helps, so I’m babbling a bit under the cut! It’s really more an outlet of some thoughts before the upcoming first feedback session for my final uni project...
Since reading Trigun all I want to do really for my Master thesis project is create somethin with an postapoyalyptic wasteland setting. Or so. I need to come up with 2 ideas until tomorror, or at least have some sketches to show... Though I get it’s important not too fall into stereotypes too easily and try to find a unique style, being constantly told Manga or everything that’s being too cliché comic is not something they are very happy about at my place of study, is still something that’s keeping me down in a way? Kinda? It’s making me actually a bit angry and sad, seeing some pretty neat animated short movies in anime style and knowing if I wanted to try a concept like this the first resonse would probably be pretty sceptical. Though I guess it depends more so on the teacher, I don’t want to throw a bad light on my school in general. Maybe I’m being a bit too pessimistic about that, you know, without really having tried it. The thing is, I just want to create neat designs and art for a project that I like, but I don’t neccessarily want to come up with my own ideas. That’s why I draw so much fanart, I love to indulge in others’ ideas and characters that are interesting, but I don’t have some kind of educatonal purpose or agenda I want to tell myself, because there are enough guys out there who do that pretty well. I just hope I’m strong willed enough to stay to my ideas, and not be talked into a direction that I don’t want to pursue professionally - at least not mainly. I like illustration and book illustration a lot, don’t get me wrong, but I love drawing characters, emotions and scenes just so much more. Even animation which I started a bit more than 2 years ago is to me so much more fascinating, because you know, you can make these characters move! And bring them to life! Phew. I’ll need to prepare a pdf for tomorrow, so I should get back to working out 2 ideas, and put them into some kind of understandable shape. If you really read so far, I’m raising my cup of hot chocolate in respect
