number #1 tactic that people use to not sound as racist as they are when they talk to black people: 'uhh so you AMERICANS need to stop pretending everything is about YOU. why should i know this im not from the us :/' (= is talking about like. a phenomenally internationally well-known black artist)
#myposts#kendrick lamar#drake#i updated it from 'white europeans' to 'people' because some people pointed out that 'gringo' is probably more south american lingo#but the point i wanted to make is like. there is this subset of european people (quite a lot of them)#who try to deflect by saying them not knowing these things isn't because of an active lack of disinterest in black culture and influences#and like. them not knowing who a certain black person is is never an educational failing on their side of any sorts#but instead are pretending that like. they are by virtue of being european always correctly educated on What History And Art Is Important#like. 2 months back that one post pretending that 'us europeans dont need to know all your AMERICAN writers 🙄' talking about james baldwin?#like just because that person didnt know who james baldwin was#they immediately were mad at the implication that They Didn't Know Someone Of Cultural Significance#and twisted it into 'well he cant be that important by virtue of me not knowing him'#like completely ignoring that the european school system also has. race problems and also ignoring that he lived and wrote in France too#but like. its this really racist defence mechanism of like. 'well you stupid americans always make everything about yourselves'#i hope i make sense i didnt think this would blow up lol#and like some people in the notes of that post were so smug about not knowing who Kendrick Lamar is#bc to them thats like 'oh im too cultured to be listening to rap of any sorts' like completely dismissing his music as kind of second class#by virtue of it being rap and black music and him not being in the White Mainstream as much as other musicians#(i mean hes still like 24th most listened artist worldwide but you get what i mean)

Dndadders is it too early to be placing bets on which season 3 PC will receive the in-character patreon EP/album treatment.... Guys...
#I'm personally team Kelsey or Francis... Kelsey bc an alphabet rap song would go hard and Francis just cuz... I think it would be funny...#And it could have a 50s sound influence because how cool would that be!!! Not super educated on 50s music specifically but still....#I hope they do it^^ It's a seasonal tradition at this point (even if they do it probably won't drop until late next year lol)#IDK WHY IM BRINGING IT UP THIS EARLY... I don't even have Patreon... Just Scary's song has been playing on repeat in my head I need more#plus curious to see what the masses think#dungeons and daddies#dndads#dndaddies#the peachyville horror#tpvh#dndads season 3#dungeons and daddies season 3#gosh. People: "Your complete rejection of rap as a whole genre is weird and frankly, it comes across as a little racist at best."
tumblr users: "I am not racist!!! I totally like rap music, see?" and then they post something like this as proof:

A random amalgamation of videos. The clips are significant because all of the was shot while I was still teaching full time.
A lot of my videos were shot with comic type filters because i still didn’t feel %100 comfortable expressing my full artistic self.
I suppose #differentmoney the track that I rapped on is an extension of this expression. The transition from educator to artist and back again every day as I would commute to school in the BX but have studio sessions all over the city 🏙️.
I think thats why I left the mistake at the end of the track. Mr. Washington the music educator would have wanted as close to perfection as possible. Teach_or_Trav my inner artist creates with reckless abandon and doesnt give a f@ck wut u think !😮💨

I loved your post about Drake, it was like a college level dissertation on exactly why he sucks lol and I’m so here for it. Out of curiosity, who are your favourite hip hop artists?
Thank you! I didn't expect it to do so many numbers - guess I can brag with those now just like Drake, huh.
For those interested, I'm "currently" (not right now and not until I have caught up on my academic shit, but definitely high on the to do list) working on an even longer rant about this beef (which as of now seems to have died out with Drake's anticlimactic clap back on 7th grade level), because I noticed many people (on tumblr and YouTube) seem to leave certain points out, be it due to time, not knowing or because they didn't find it important. So yeah, there might be sth comin for ya in a few weeks - if I don't lose interest in it entirely lmao.
As for my fav hiphop artists. Phew, tough one. My vinyl shelf screams Kendrick first, because I already own most of his records. From then on it's really a thing of taste/vibe of the time you ask. So the following artists are in no way ordered, but I do listen to these regularly: Tyler, the Creator, A$AP Rocky, Sampha (with his angelic voice; idk if he still counts as pure hiphop but fuck genres), Denzel Curry, Kid Cudi, Kanye (back when he did good music (early 2000s up to like 2013-16ish) bc what the fuck is even the rest?) and OutKast! The following people I like a lot and listen to often, but not as much as the previously named: J.Cole, Missy Elliot, Busta Rhymes, Tupac, Snoop, Dre, 50 Cent, Travis Scott.
Of course there's many more people I listen to, but yeah.
Thanks for your question @haunted-80s-arcade-game.
#My reasons to hate drake really left yall educated huh#Hiphop#Rap#Music#ask me stuff#Rappers#So yall just love to hear me rant huh

I’ve somehow hit the discourse of “I’m white and I know what rap is about 🤓” side of things and it’s reminding me of a guy i knew in high school reciting the importance of Fuck The Police to me as if I’ve never heard it before. Then he proceeded to play Tyler the Creator’s Flower Boy in full (the album had just dropped at the time) and go track by track on all the lyrical meanings and I felt like I was trapped in a Genius video.
My point is, trying to pull the “I’m not racist, I UNDERSTAND your struggles” is off putting imo cuz to white people can only understand to a certain degree. I’ve known white people who are these raving mad rap fans and then the second I start bringing up current black issues all I hear is “well, it’s just always been that way. What am I supposed to do about it?”
FUCKING GIVE A SHIT ABOUT BLACK PEOPLE EVERY ONCE AND A WHILE AND NOT JUST WHEN THEY DROP AN ALBUM!!! LISTEN TO THE BLACK PEOPLE IN YOUR LIFE TALK ABOUT THEIR STRUGGLES AND STOP USING THE VAST UMBRELLA OF RAP AS A LENS TO SEE ALL BLACK PEOPLE THROUGH!!!
The fact that we’re still at a point where even the “good guy” white folk think that because they heard a couple tracks and watched the This Is America music video once they’re the most perfect ally when that’s just not true.
#rap discourse#rap drama 2024#fuck the police#tyler the creator#this is america#it’s so exhausting#trying to educate#white people#y’all can’t listen#cuz you gotta be right about everything#even the history you never learned#you don’t wanna hear black people#you just want to pretend to care#until the fad wears off#where’s the white rap fans at blm protests?#where’s the white rap fans who know the system is rigged and want to fix it?#i’m fucking sick of it#all this fake support#stop pretending to care#only when it fits your narrative#you people disgust me
