I actually like how Emma/Melinda is being handled so far.

Unicorn have been fighting to defend humanity for hundreds of years now, but they seem to have lost sight of the humans themselves and how this conflict affects them. Emma is pushing back because she can still see how Unicorn’s actions impact the world and people around them, but she’s being pressured from the others (especially Edred) to just focus on the fight at hand.

And what’s great is that when she does that, when she ignores everything else and just does what works…SHE’S FUCKING TERRIFYING. She all but obliterates someone’s house to catch the Fox, she summons a giant sea monster to destroy a ghost ship and brushes it off as “nothing”.

I’m all for seeing Emma/Melinda go full Dark Sorceress, only for Edred to realize that while he was the one pushing for it to happen, this isn’t the Melinda he fell in love with. Basically I want the Rex Dangervest storyline from The Lego Movie 2.

I imagined that during the 4 year timeskip, Edred and Winston probably ended up actually becoming friends, at least the vitriolic best bud type, and now they're the only ones who can insult the other

I came up with this really sketchy and totally improvable comic of a heartfelt conversation between the two that, in my head, improves their relationship and lets them become friends over the shared love for Melinda/Emma. To be honest I don't even know if this is out of character (probably is) but I had fun picturing this. Check the alt for more clarity ;)

I know I keep sharing excerpts - and this one is different from the first one I posted, but I wanted to share another🫣.

The setting is a mausoleum in one of those ancient cemeteries on the outskirts of London, where Melinda/Emma has fled to after losing control. She is, ofc, followed by her companions, and in a moment where he thinks a direct appeal can be made to her, Edred sequesters her in a mausoleum to confront her. I’m experimenting with the perspective and how to share the experience of Melinda and Emma sharing a body, sharing memories, and sharing a consciousness. The setting of the cemetery is important to me!

It’ll make more sense when I finish the whole thing, and it’s probably more than a little silly, but I’m having fun writing it! So I’ll share some.

“I’m sorry,” she offered weakly. Edred’s countenance remained as unchanged as the tomb’s stone facade.

“Which one?”

The question made Emma’s senses bolt and her heart flutter like a swarm of butterflies.

“I’m sorry—”

“Which one are you, now?”

The girl shook her head and produced an agitated sigh.

“I don’t know, I don’t know if there is a way I can know. She’s me and I’m her, and I’m her and she’s me, and –”

Edred turned round to face her, his dark eyes rinsing over her. Quite frankly, Emma found the elf formidable. He possessed none of the gentleness of aptitude that had always drawn her to Winston. Far and away, Melinda found that a little amusing.

“Well, I believe you’re that Emma-person, right now,” his voice was silvery and sharp in the mausoleum air. “And I want to speak to her.”

Emma leapt from the stone slab to the floor. It was Edred’s haughtiness that seemed to help pummel her fear of him into outright irritation.

“You’re going to get who I give you,” she scowled and jabbed the air with her finger. “And you’re going to leave me alone until I get this all sorted—“

With an unearthly quickness, Edred bridged the small distance between them. His sword hand went to her wrist still hanging in the air and before the girl could even think to resist, the elf had one hand wrapped around her wrist, the other ensconced to her shoulder and he had begun to pull her closer to him.

What a blackguard! Emma thought. What a horrible scoundrel, what an ignoble man! What a vill—

“Emma.” Edred bent himself down to her height, their foreheads nearly brushing. He sounded rather like a grown-up trying to temper a rambunctious child.

“Emma, please listen to me,” he said. “Melinda must have full control over her power. Without that control, she is capable of leveling whole cities. Even murder.”

At this, Melinda recoiled - she could feel the darkness bubbling and roiling within her like a tar-pit. It was blacker than beetles’ wings, blacker than the eyes of Anubis, blacker than the abyss of passing centuries. How dare he remind her of that! Emma shivered.

“Please, Emma, give yourself over to her. Something…happens…when she tries to go through you,” he was truly pleading with her now. “She can’t control herself and it is putting us, and the world, in danger.”

“Well, that’s not very fair.” Emma’s voice was soft. She did know that to be true - what was happening to her was expressly unfair - but his requests bothered her in another way. She couldn’t quite place it. Melinda - is that you?

“Fair!” A crimson blush murkied the elf’s frosty pallor and he tensed his grip on her shoulder. “The fate of all humankind is at risk and the only thing you can say is that it’s not fair?!”

I’m cranking out this UWE fanfic, I’m so inspired. I can’t wait to share!

Aelwulf married Edred’s fiancé (or a Southwestern elf idk)

The elves accept Aelwulf as their rightful king

Edred is punished to life as a stable boy 🐴

Winston and Emma have a daughter

They name her Mathilda/ Maddie

She’s a reincarnation of Melinda

She remembers some of her past life

She reunites with Edred

Winston isn’t happy at first but finally accepts the elf as part of his family
