Short Fiction Weekly Challenge
Time for a new prompt from the Short Fiction Weekly Challenge, tumblr edition.  Let it spark your imagination.  Any character, any fandom, any original world.   Reblogs welcome!
Post your story to your blog and send the link to Short Fiction Weekly Challenge!  The link will appear in our feed and the site index, and your blog will be listed on the Participating Blogs page.
September’s Month of Meta is all about relationships, particularly ones other than romantic.
This week’s SFWC prompt:
Week of September 23, 2022
Platonic/Friends/Equals: There's no power difference. No status, no class, no age, no bars to their relationship. Who are your character’s friends? The people they hang out with? Who shares their adventures and their defeats? Who do they treat as equals, if not friends, and why? Who do they have close relationships with, but aren’t their love interest(s)?
Feel free to continue submitting stories for any prompt.  A masterpiece missed the deadline?  Don’t let it gather electronic dust.  Submit it anyway and Short Fiction Weekly Challenge will publish it.
This week’s featured previous prompts are:
Time Change: When has your character been out of sync with their surroundings? In space all planets have their own day-night cycles as well as years. Travel to a new place at light speed or more means having to adjust to a wildly different schedule upon landing. And what time does the crew keep in transit? Is there an agreed-upon standard or does every captain choose their own? Fantasy settings can still have abrupt time changes: long-distance teleports, extended sleep spells, world-altering magic. Does a place like Discworld have time zones? Maybe your character is the habitual early riser in a world or night owls, or the reverse.
Relaxing--When your character takes time off to kick back and relax, what do they do? Do they have to travel? Go somewhere where they can avoid pressure and constant requests for aid or advice? Do they escape into a good book or other entertainment? Perhaps they indulge in a hobby or visit a spa. What does your character do to relax? Or do they find it impossible?
Got an idea for a prompt?  Submit it here.

sleepy’s fic masterlist
Doing this cos I wanted to! And I can’t find the short things I’ve written on tumblr half the time, so i wanted a place to go to find them. I’ll edit this whenever I post something new and give it a quick reblog when I do <3
Tumblr shorts
Inventions and Ice-cream
A chererful conversation between Crowley and Aziraphale about their favourite invention humans have come up with. Also read for hand holding, ice-cream, and macking out against the Bentley door. Goes hard on the hand holding stuff
1600-ish words
What kind of lover are you?
Filled a prompt, wing grooming by South Downs. It turned into something very soft, very loving, with some acknowledgement of the aftereffects of trauma and constant threat and the anxiety that would be on you from that. Also, some nice massaging and snark from the main two. I feel like I’m getting a hug when I read this, thb
1200-ish words
Chamomille
Aziraphale notices Crowley getting tired and swings into action with a prepared bedtime routine. Crowley is not consulted. Very short and sweet
350-ish words
Monsieur and Difficult Topics
Crowley and Aziraphale are having a meal together after the apocalypse. Crowley says they're not friends and a very challenging conversation follows as Aziraphale tries to correct this. This is a pre romance thing, so they finish having had a worthwhile conversation, not leaping into dating
2000-ish words
Burnt Coffee and Crosswords
Crowley stumbles out of bed and finds that Aziraphale has, yet again, snuck into his flat while he was asleep. Fluff and fondness ensue
1000-ish words
Absolutely Adorably Nauseating
Outsider POV of Aziraphale and Crowley having very dramatic public fights. Three different stories. Mainly meant to be funny, but has some nice fluff in it
2000-ish words
How can someone as clever as you be so handsome?
Aziraphale remembers Crowley calling him clever in an angry moment and fondly teases him for it. Very fluffy.
1000-ish words
Gifts
Through the years Crowley has been giving Aziraphale gifts that are, overwhelmingly, in poor taste. Fluffy and silly, has pictures
2000-ish words
An Unpleasant Suprise
A butteromens effort. The similar fics were Aziraphale saving Crowley from Gabriel, I wanted to do a twist that had Crowley more engaged in the fight. Turns into an awful lot of flirting and the like at the end, it’s a fun read. Quick warning for a brief decrip of gore from being burnt, but I move on pretty fast
3500-ish words
A New Eden
Filled a prompt; “I’m going to need you to put some underwear on before you say anything else.” It’s not sexy, but by the virtue of the prompt there is dick. Mostly speechless Crowley, though.
1200-ish words
Entirely Unapologetic
Filled a prompt; “so why did I have to punch that guy?” Features protective Crowley and blustering Aziraphale
500-ish words
Be Unashamed With Me
Crowley’s waiting for Aziraphale to leave a church and as he waits he gets a bit sad about his demon-hood and remembers how hopeless he was before he and Aziraphale got together. When Aziraphale joins him a lot of fluff and compliments follow to cheer Crowley up. Which works. Gets a bit flirty.
1500-ish words
Climb Every Mountain
In the biblical narrative, God tells Abraham to sacrifice his son, Isaac, on Moriah. Abraham begins to comply, when a messenger from God interrupts him. Abraham then sees a ram and sacrifices it instead. In the me narrative, Crowley does a favour for Aziraphale then swiftly changes his mind and doesn’t let the kid be killed.
1200-ish words
How Many Ways Can I Say...
A very short form fic, more a casual tumblr post, but it has some cute descriptions of different ways Aziraphale can sat I love you to Crowley
500-ish words
AO3 links
If You Like
link to tumblr promo post
link to some relevant art
a take on the few days between apocalypse and the body switch, cos Aziraphale goes from surprised at Crowley offering to let him crash at his apartment, to swapping bodies and letting Crowley risk himself. So it’s following Aziraphale’s trauma and consideration. Lots of bed sharing and a very fluffy body-positivity ending with Aziraphale’s golden stretch marks.
10,000-ish words
Nothing’s Changed
link to tumblr promo post
A week into July and Crowley has finished sleeping in. He gives Aziraphale a ring and receives a very frosty reception. Although Aziraphale insists nothing has changed, Crowley suspects otherwise. Fic includes Aziraphale pinching Crowley to prove he’s not dreaming
2000-ish words
Slipped My Mind
link to tumblr promo post
Crowley and Aziraphale are so used to not being in a relationship that its quite easy to slip into old habits and forget that they’re allowed to touch now. A bit of angst, but mostly fluffy as they get used to this new normal.
6000-ish words
Requisite Lockdown Fic
link to tumblr promo post
This was actually a tumblr short fic I wrote, but it got crazy out of hand and the format is much easier on ao3 so I’m linking it here. Told entirely through phone calls in the same format as the lockdown youtube special. Crowley is setting boundaries for the first time and Aziraphale is struggling to adjust to these new rules. But it goes well
4000-ish words
To Seduce, Beguile, and Entice
link to tumblr promo post
Crowley isn’t any good at seduction temptations. This comes up one night and Aziraphale is concerned because he’s seduced in Crowley’s name before. All part of the Arrangement. So, of course, the only solution is for Aziraphale to teach Crowley how to seduce. It gets out of hand quickly. The last chapter is post apocalypse and Crowley tries his hand at seducing Aziraphale in a very intentionally referential way, as a kind of method to express that he’s actually interested in a relationship.
10,000-ish words
Still Waking Up
link to some relevant art
link to tumblr promo post
Follows the pair for about two years after the apocalypse as Crowley is behaving oddly and Aziraphale is figuring everything out. This is your trauma recovery fic! Crowley has nightmares and a fear of fire and some abandonment. Aziraphale is lonely and feels deeply incompetent and lost, as well as having not fully resolved some of his issues with Heaven. They learn how to be on their own side together rather than keeping it all separate and protective. Also, bed sharing.
30,000-ish words
Not Quite Human
link to tumblr promo post
Omnipotent POV (but not god) that sorta swaps between them. It’s just a simple 18 hours or so in the shop on afternoon as they’ve begun to get more physically affectionate. This is a decent mutual pining fic. I tried to lean into the real not-human stuff they’ve both got going on. It’s your classic admission of love fic with plenty of panicking Crowley. Features some smut with a sex-positive, asexual Aziraphale and a sex-neutral, demisexual Crowley.
10,000-ish words
the kind of thing one says easily
link to tumblr promo post
This is my silly take on an au. Everything is exactly the same but they actually communicate honestly occasionally. Wild, I know. We follow Crowley and Aziraphale through moments of time in their history (some canon friendly, like follow ons from scenes in the tv show, some made up) as Crowley quite simply tells Aziraphale that he loves him. And Aziraphale gets used to it and learns to be honest in return. Things really come to a head as the apocalypse approaches. The last chapter is a sex scene, but it’s very very loving rather than smutty.
15,000-ish words
Soft.
link to tumblr promo post
This is a very fluffy fic. Crowley tells Aziraphale he has a nice body and it dredges up Aziraphale’s residual concerns over what Gabriel said and in the panic-fueled conversation that follows as Crowley tries to right his wrong they slowly step in sync into discussing their feelings and wants. This fic is the big three, communication, consent, and soft. (gets a bit sexy too, but it’s pretty tame)
10,000-ish words
Is It Worth It Yet
link to tumblr promo post
Around abouts the 1000AD mark, in what would become Turkey a few hundred years later, Crowley sat down, took a breath, and told Aziraphale how he feels in a total trainwreck of a conversation. Chapter 1, that conversation. Of course, Aziraphale would then expect Crowley to bring it all up again after the apocalypse, and when he doesn't he decides to take matters into his own hands and broach the topic himself. It doesn't go as well as he'd hoped. Good ending tho, don't worry guys. If you need an overload of angst then a big old hug to pull you up again, this is a good one.
10,000-ish words
Summoned
link to relevant (lemon) art
link to tumblr promo post
Post apocalypse, timeline unspecified. Heaven and Hell refangle the way humans summonings work so it only applies to Aziraphale and Crowley. This means Crowley finds himself summoned an awful lot more than usual. We see their relationship readjust after the apocalypse in snippets of moments as Crowley’s been summoned. It’s mostly fairly light hearted, but there’s a couple chapters of pretty good angst and one very sexy chapter at the end! Just straight up smut, of the light d/s variety
13,000-ish words
Try Some Pride On For A Day
link to some relevant art
link to tumblr promo post
Shortly after the apocalypse, Aziraphale set a challenge down. Sin vs virtue. Each chapter shows an attempt from Crowley to get Aziraphale to succumb to sin, and Aziraphale tricking Crowley into performing a virtue. Some attempts are easier than others, some are impossible. They learn a lot about each other and slip into some unexpectedly honest moments. This one gets sexy but not out of hand. Aziraphale is pretty explicitly asexual.
20,000-ish words
Needed a break, gone to France x
link to tumblr promo post
A few weeks after the apocalypse and Crowley goes to visit Aziraphale to find a note taped to his door. Panic, anxiety, and general sadness over being so broken up with ensue. This is a miscommunication fic with a writing style that leans toward humour rather than angst and has a nice fluffy ending with good asexual overtones
9000-ish words
Heresy
link to tumblr promo post
Set 3000 years after the apocalypse. Crowley and Aziraphale live together and are romantic. They have been left not entirely alone by their old colleagues, but they are unthreatened so it’s all okay. Until one day Beelzebub and Gabriel drop by to visit in the most surprising way. This fic is my first and was written before the discussion of Beelzebubs pronouns kicked off, so I used the actresses pronouns (she/her) instead of they/them which I’ve used since when referring to Beelzebub
2500-ish words

Star Spangled Flash Bingo
Wohoo this is our first flash bingo and it will run from January 18th to April 18th - we might do another after that depending on the success of this one and how our schedules look by then. Consider this a trial for both you guys and us.
Let’s get some questions out of the way first:
Can I sign up for the flash bingo if I haven’t signed up for a full card?
Yes you absolutely can. Just like you can sign up for this one as well as the other.
Can fill a square from my regular card and one with this one with the same fic?
Yes if you double the acquired wordcount. The same goes for every other media. Just double the minimum and you’re good.
Will we receive a badge for blacking out a flash card?
You betcha
Can I sign up for more than one flash bingo card?
Afraid not. Not this first time around at least. You have to pick one and commit to it. HOWEVER if you finish long before the flash is over and contact us via ask we might be able to let you sign up for a second flash card ;)
Important Dates for Flash Bingo
Sign Ups: Starts Jan 18th and closes March 18th 2021
Last chance to post a flash fic: April 10th 2021
Last chance to post masterlist and request a badge: April 18th
All blackouts receive a badge and will join our hall of fame under flash bingo participants 2021
General rules for the Bingo is the same as for the main bingo but let’s repeat them shall we:
Purpose of the Bingo
The focus is still the three caps but each card comes with a few challenges on its own. Scroll down to find a link to the cards and the rules for each.
All Bingo cards are SFW as a rule but that doesn’t mean you aren’t allowed to write smut if you are over the age of 18. We just want to give every writer a chance to participate no matter if they write smut or not (hey that rhymed).
Restrictions
- No abusive ships are allowed. Some ships like Winteriron can be abusive if you focus on the negative but can also be based on healing, therefore they are a grey zone and fall under think about what you write, if you chose a pairing such as that one. Shipping Bucky with Rumlow will always be abusive and as a rule no villains shipped with heroes allowed. (Loki might be an exception cause he is a grey character, just think before you write with him too).
-No pairing an adult with an underage character. No aging up or down. This goes for side pairings as well so no Starker!
- No incest - that goes for Thorki as a sidepairing as well. Adopted or not they grew up as brothers.
- No non/dub con are allowed either.
- You can’t write smut if you are under the age of 18. If we catch you doing so you will be blocked from the bingo page and banned for participating.
- You can’t write smut if you are under 18. Everyone can write fluff, angst, crack, etc.
Formats and requirements
- Fics must state what square you fill, warnings, word count and pairing - if no pairing just write general (check the format page for ideas on how to format your post)
- Social Media AUs, Aesthetics, Edits, Fanart, Fanvids, podfics must have square filled, pairing and if needed warnings.
- Everything you post as a fill must be original and new content - or if you read someone’s fic as a podfic explicit consent from the author must have been given and they have to be credited on your post.
- Fics must have a minimum of 250 words - fics over 500 must have a keep reading to be reblogged.
- Use common sense for when posting artworks into long posts. They might need a cut too.
- Aesthetics have a 4 picture minimum and preferably accompanied by a 100-word description or drabble - words are not a must
- Gifsets has a 6 picture minimum.
- One piece of fanart in form of a drawing by hand or a computer program is considered a fill.
- Social media Aus must be a min of 6 pictures.
- Podfics must be a min of 3 min.
- Fanvids must be a min of 30 sec.
- All content can be added via link not to an original Tumblr post if you so choose as long as there is a Tumblr post with the format requirements we can reblog and the Tumblr post must be linked too on the masterlist you create when your card is filled.
- IF WE FORGOT YOUR TYPE OF ARTWORK SEND US AN ASK AND WE MIGHT BE ABLE TO WORK SOMETHING OUT - we are pretty open to all types of creative outlets but it’s hard to put restrictions of stuff we don’t know or know very little about.
- One square per fic/artwork. If you write a series each chapter can be considered a fill or the entire series can be a fill if you so choose. No combining squares within the bingo.
- You are free to combine our bingo with another bingo with no additional requirements added from our end. Just make sure you follow the other bingos rules too.
- If you combine with our main bingo though we ask you double the minimum requirement of your chosen media for it to count as a fill for both. Otherwise we will ask you to choose.
- Warn accordingly. If warnings are spoilers put them in the tags and tell people to check your tags for additional warnings on the post.
- You don’t have to use the same media for the entire card. You can have 3 fics and 1 vid and the rest fics fx.
- Tag us @star-spangled-bingo and make clear the fic is for SSB SPRING FLASH 2021 and use the #SSB Spring Flash2021 on each square you fill.
Sanctions for breaking the rules
- If your post lacks a keep reading we won’t reblog it but it will still count as a fill.
- If you don’t tag us we can’t reblog you and if you don’t say it’s for SSB2020 in your header we won’t count it as a fill until you edited it into the post. This seems strict but we got 2019 floating and it is impossible to know which card what is for if you don’t mark it down for us.
- If your fill fail to meet the minimum requirements your fill will be reblogged but won’t count as a fill unless you add to it to meet the minimum.
- If your post doesn’t clearly show square filled, we won’t reblog it and it won’t count as a fill until you edited it in.
- If we discover you write smut and are under 18 - you will be blocked from the bingo blog and banned from participating in the bingo in the future even when you reach the age of 18.
- If you break this rule: No abusive ships are allowed. No pairing an adult with an underage character. No aging up or down. No incest and no glorification of non/dub con are allowed either. All of these go for side pairing also so no Thorki and Starker. Your post won’t count as a fill, nor will it be reblogged. You’ll get a reminder of our rules the first time you break it and the second you will be banned from the bingo.

Best of luck and have fun!

Hi! I know nothing about skijumping but it seems really interesting. Could you tell me where i could started as a fan?
hello, Anon 😄
To be honest all this COVID pandemic isn't the best time to begin the adventure with the ski jumping 🙃 it's not the same sport as it used to be year ago. there's no fans under ski jumping hill and this wonderful atmosphere made by spectators is gone, many ski jumpers get positive tested and Teams have to quarantine.
But hey, if you somehow and got interested in this sport during such challenging times, it's definitely sport for you 🤗
And where to start.
You have to find tv channel which shows ski jumping. I don't know which country are you from, but: German/English/Polish eurosport/eurosportplayer shows ski jumping. you also can watch ski jumping at NRK, ORF, TVP, YLE. You can google links to the competition streams. It's hard, but not impossible.
Competitions are usually at weekends (trainings and qualifications on Friday, and competitions on Saturday and Sunday).
You have to find somebody to cheer on. A ski jumper, whole team. It's the easiest to start with your own National Team 😉 or you can choose somebody with... dunno... nice helmet, funny hair. Or you can choose somebody who is in good shape at the moment. (Team Germany, Team Norway, Team Poland, Team Austria). With time you will get to know the rules, small nuances, differences between particular ski jumpers' jumping style. And after all you will find your own favourites (or your favourites will find you😏😏)
You can track #ski jumping and #skijumpingedit on Tumblr. There are few gifs makers and edits makers. Some people write fan fictions. Usually the tag is the most active during qualification and competitions days. (Unless something unexpected happens)
A lot of ski jumpers have Instagram/Twitter/YouTube profiles and post about trainings, competitions and private lifes. You can follow them to keep up with new content.
For the official news you can visit fis-ski.com/en/ski-jumping
Right now we are in the middle of Ski Flying World Championships. To be Ski Flying World Champion, ski jumper has to jump in four series and gain the highest note for jumps' length and style. Today will take place 3rd and 4th series, and we will get to know the new Champion.
If you have any other questions, let me know!) 😏

meet the simmer - TS2 Edition
I was tagged to do this by @mrslandgraab - thank you!
Your name: Kat!
Languages you speak: Just English, and extremely low-level GCSE French :(
Are you a mermaid?: Sure! I live in a coastal town & was a huge mermaid & dolphin girl as a kid, even had an underwater/dolphin themed bedroom. These days my vibe is more witch-y than mermaid-y, but I’m down with being any kinda cool fantasy lady, haha
Your play style: It’s a mix, yeah! I tend to play with a lot of structure (rounds, challenges, etc.) but keep the rules pretty loose & optimise more for storytelling than anything. It varies a lot between saves and sometimes even between families, haha.
Your Simself picture: Gosh, I haven’t played with a simself in forever... here’s one from 2015, lmao:
Tumblr media
She doesn’t really look anything like me since I wasn’t the best at faces in those days, and my style has definitely changed in the last 5 years (although the hair isn’t all that different) so maybe I’ll make a new one, just for fun?
Stories or gameplay, builds, look books, edits or CC: Gameplay & builds, mostly!
Your favorite age state: Young Adults, university is my favourite! :D
Your favorite season: Spring or Autumn - I like that nice in-between weather and the feeling of the world chaning...
Your favorite holiday: Christmas, definitely! It can be kind of a stressful holiday but it gives me such a strong feeling of community and love, with family, friends, hell even on simblr! It’s the only time of year I really get together with my extended family. I also love the food, the decorations, the lights, Christmas pantos, classic films on TV, ghost stories... it’s got it all, imo!
How was your day?: So far so good! It’s been a weekend of having absolutely no plans (courtesy of corvid-19, heh) and just kinda relaxing. It’s a worrying time in a way but it’s also been nice to not have to worry about cramming as much as possible into the weekend & just being, yknow?
Your favorite career: I like running a OFB career the best but other than that... maybe crime, haha?
Your favorite aspiration: Knowledge & Pleasure!
Your favorite EP, GP and SP: Probably Mansion & Garden, I can’t live without all that gorgeous garden decoration & the cool archetectural details! For EP, hmmm, maybe university? University is my favourite part of the game, I think :)
How old is your simblr?: Apparently it dates back to August 2014 so, gosh, about 6 years??????????
Have you WooHooed?: Haha, serious question? Yeah
Your favorite skill: Creativity, probably! Although really its the hidden skills linked to it that I like, painting& music proficiancy, etc.
The size of your mods folder: 28GB >.< no comments on this please lmao, I know how bad it is & I hate it
Your 3 favorite mods: Going to cheat and say all the occult stuff by @midgethetree, the simological school/prison mods, & @hexagonal-bipyramid‘s traits project!
Your interests (other than Sims): Writing, D&D (I’m a newbie DM currently running Curse of Strahd for my IRL friends), anime, reading, drawing, tarot, fashion (I like ‘alternative’ style but lean more into witchy/granny/mori stuff than the ‘edgy’ look), witchcraft/occult stuff in general, knitting, embroidery... the last 2 are very new hobbies I’m still getting the hang of!
Your favorite Sim (picture if possible): Chosing one is always basically impossible for me so I’m gonna go ahead and post a few favorites...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Which Sims games have you played (including mobile games)?:Definitely TS2 is the one I’ve played the most of, but I’ve also played all the other mainline games... TS1 was only at friend’s houses, never got into TS4, but I have played a lot of TS3.
We never had a PC as a kid so I’ve played looooooads of the console ones. On the PS2 The Sims, Bustin’ Out, Sims 2, The Urbz (the best one.) Also the Sims 2 DS game & PSP games. Those are both pretty great. I also played the Sims 3 Wii game which was fucking terrible, haha.
Propose a crazy scheme: Bring back round robin legacies where a different simmer plays each generation
Best part of simblr: The community spirit is great, everyone is always eager to help each other and the level of creativity is just wow
Worst part of simblr:Sometimes I miss how much people commented in the old LJ days - without “threads” in comments it’s much harder to build friendships on Tumblr without going out of your way to message people, which is always a bit intimidating!
What other games you play?: I don’t play that many other games because I like the Sims 2 so much, but me and my boyfriend generally play through a couple of games together each year... mostly the Zelda and Final Fantasy series. I also play 00s era Sonic games weekly with one of my friends, haha. They are kind of crappy in a lot of ways but hold so much charm for me, I just love them... in general I like visual novels, mysteries, puzzles, adventures & anything with a good story. Not so big on anything very large and open-world, or first-person.
Other favourites include Pokemon, Fire Emblem, Harvest Moon (had to quit this one cold turkey lmao), TWEWY, the 999 games & Phoenix Wright.
Other websites or accounts (Origin, Twitter, etc.): I’m on discord! katatty #9742
Are you single?: Nope, been in a relationship for the last 5 years & we’re very happy. We moved in together last summer!
Tagging @strangetomato, @moocha-muses, @nostalgiasimmer & @simhealing - if you’re up for it!

1, 2, 3, 7, 9, 13, 17, 23 (some of these are random and some aren't)
Thanks for the many questions, Socks! Sorry I didn’t answer them earlier; I decided answering asks on mobile sucks.  ALSO, this is going to be super long haha sorry.  1.  Tell us about your current project(s)  – what’s it about, how’s progress, what do you love most about it?       Well, my most current project is one I just started brainstorming. It’s (hopefully gonna be) a Fallout 3 series, with my latest fic being the starting point. LW/Fawkes is a ship I liked immediately when I played the series some years ago, but I never got around to writing for it, probably in part because there’s already a super good longfic about them, and I just didn’t think there was much else I could say. But my LW is different from Choco’s LW, and lately I wanted to start something self-indulgent. Although I have enough ideas for this to maybe be a single 30k fic, I’m choosing to do a series of shortfics instead, so that I’m not burdening myself with another long project. Fic series are great in that way, because it’s basically complete with every new fic.       On top of that, I have... probably 3 other things I want to make significant progress on this year. First is another Fallout fic: Same Heart. I’ve posted 8 chapters already and have almost 2 more done, but due to the slow-build nature of it (and my tagging) I don’t expect to have almost any readers until at least chapter 10 (when the ship characters finally meet). I’d like to at least get that far this year.       A project I’d love to finish by fall is the unreleased “The Wilderness”, a Venom zombie AU that I started for NaNoWriMo 2 years ago. It’s about 55% written, and my goal is to have as much of it done as possible before the sequel movie comes out. If it’s not done by then, I still plan to post whatever I have.       And lastly-ish, my novel... thing. Rogue. I’m in the process of editing it, although I’ve taken kind of a break lately. And as soon as I’m done with the edits and can get a couple of people to read it (just so they can tell me if certain parts are stupid and need changed) I plan to start the next book in the series... which will probably end up being book #1, actually, if I do them modern-era chronologically. It’s... gonna be a process. ^^;  2.  Tell us about what you’re most looking forward to writing – in your current project, or a future project.       In my upcoming FO3 fic series, I’m honestly just kind of weirdly looking forward to... how do I put this? Exploring my own vaguely-traumatic experiences through fic. I’ll always do a happy ending, if possible, but before we get there I really want to run these two through the ringer of... being given something they were led to believe was impossible, being judged for it, having it taken away, and then being told “well maybe it’s for the best”.       When it comes to future projects, I guess I’m really excited about writing the new Rogue book. “Reaper”, I guess, is its unimaginative working title. I’m anxious about it, because I thought Rogue had some really deeply emotional scenes, and I’m not sure if I’m going to be able to accomplish that as well with this new one, simply because the characters don’t have the same level of desperation about each other. I need to figure out what’s unique about their dynamic and push that. I guess I’m looking forward to the challenge.  3.  What is that one scene that you’ve always wanted to write but can’t be arsed to write all of the set-up and context it would need? (consider this permission to write it and/or share it anyway)       Hmm gosh. Technically there’s a scene in the later chapters of Mobius that I already wrote, but it wouldn’t take place until probably chapter 3 or later, and I just lost all steam on that fic, sadly. But every time I poke through my notes I make myself cry reading it. It’s a scene where one character knows it’s going to be the last time he sees the person he loves most, and he can’t explain his pain to anyone. I really just want to get there so I can see if it makes other people cry like babies haha.       But on a completely unrelated note, there’s also this ZADR fic I started writing in like 2009, and I absolutely didn’t want to do the work to get to the fun middle scenes, but basically it was an AU where young adult Dib went to live/work in the thriving multi-species space community, where he’s... I dunno, studying alien biology I think?, and he ends up with Zim as a roommate. The scenes I really wanted to write were about the two of them getting into like a bar fight with some tough types, and Zim gets his pak ripped off/damaged in the process, and Dib has to sort of take care of him through a horrible fever. But then it turns out that the pak was not a life-support system like they thought, but actually a growth inhibitor so they (the people in charge of the Irkens) could choose who became the Tallest (the leaders). (And also it hindered reproduction, etc.) So basically the two of them accidentally start to unravel a galactic conspiracy which also involves corruption in the Earth government, etc, and Zim gets taller but spoiler alert, he still doesn’t get tall enough to challenge the Tallest lol. Sadly, I doubt I’ll ever actually write that fic. Sounds like too much effort lol.  7.  What do you think are the characteristics of your personal writing style? Would others agree?       That’s such a hard question. Ummm. How do I put any of that into words? ...I think one of the things about my writing is that a lot of the time nothing really happens in a scene, and the story mostly focuses on a character thinking. Like, enough happens so there’s something for them to think about, but I think I tend to put a lot of emphasis on POV character’s thoughts, to the point of sometimes seeming stream-of-consciousness. I’ve been told that this makes my stories feel alive though? So I think it appeals to some people, though I’m sure others would find such stories boring.       Oh also, somewhat along these lines, I like to add commentary that is only somewhat relevant, usually in parenthesis at the end of a sentence or paragraph. (Honestly, it’s not unusual to see one in every paragraph if I’m writing something slightly humorous.)  9.  Are you more of a drabble or a longfic kind of writer? Pantser or plotter? Do you wish you were the other?      I would LOVE to write primarily longfics! However, I just don’t have the time or energy for it, and I don’t write fast enough. So I end up with a lot of oneshots under 10k. I had to challenge myself to learn to write short things though, and then it’s really about writing something short, not about writing a specific story.       Generally, I’m both pantster and plotter. I tend to write the first chapter/few scenes/maybe as much as 10k, just by the seat of my pants. After that, I look at what I’ve got and write out a plot to continue from there. Plotting everything out before I start just doesn’t work for me, but if I try “pantsing” anything longer than 15k I know I’m gonna have an absolute torturous hell of a time.  13.  Do you share your writing online? (Drop a link!) Do you have projects you’ve kept just for yourself?      Lol I think anyone who’s reading this knows I share my stuff online. Primarily on my AO3, though there’s some other stuff floating around here on tumblr too.  Most of the time if I keep something to myself it’s only because it’s not finish enough to share. So, sure, there’s plenty of that, but the goal is always to share it eventually. If I ever get around to finishing a novel, those will probably be the only things I don’t just post online. (Though I do post most of my OC stuff currently.)  17.  Do you think readers perceive your work - or you - differently to you? What do you think would surprise your readers about your writing or your motivations?       I think that inevitably my readers will always perceive me and my writing a bit differently than I do. That’s just... interacting with people. Nobody knows you entirely. However, I am as open and honest in my writing as possible, and I actually think that reading my fic is the best way to get to know me. I like to hope that I am an open book to anyone who has read many of my words. =] While you may not know the details of my life, I think you would have a good insight into my personality.    23.  What’s the story idea you’ve had in your head for the longest?       Like... my oldest fic/story that I’ve never written or posted? Not counting stuff I’ve consciously abandoned (things from middle school, mostly), my original fic series, “Damsel and Company in Distress” aka DamselCo. is definitely my oldest story. I think I started fiddling with it in 2006-- which makes it pretty disappointing that it’s gotten next to nowhere. XD; But the story is my baby, and it’s been my baby for so long that anyone who’s followed me ever is probably at least vaguely familiar with a few of the characters.  Now maybe one day I’ll actually give it the attention it deserves, though I’m sure it’ll need significant revamping. After all, a lot has changed in 14+ years. Ideas that were new and subversive then are probably already stale.

Shipping it like the Titanic
Sam secretly writes fanfiction between killing monsters and fending off the apocalypse-of-the-day. In heaven, a newly recovered Gabriel discovers smut and decides to try his hand. Because that's all sabriel will ever be for either of them, obviously- a far-off fantasy.
There's no way what they're writing about could ever find its way into their real lives. No way whatsoever.
AO3
Rating: E for Lemon                                                                                                Pairings: Sabriel                                                                                                    Words: too many (10k and growing)
Written for the @gabriel-monthly-challenge and encompassing not one, not two, but three of the prompts! Woohoo! A record for me!
This is only half of it, because, as usual, the prompt grew out of proportion, so there will me more. It’ll be posted chapter-wise on AO3, because I know me- there’ll be more details I want to add in!
tagging @warlockwriter, @archangelgabriellives, @archangel-with-a-shotgun, @archangelsanonymous, @ttttrickster and @revwinchester!
It started with the play.
Sam had almost forgotten about the Supernatural books- their lives went crazy on such a regular basis that any form of insanity that wasn’t directly threatening their lives tended to be quickly pushed into the background. But it all came back to him in vivid detail as he watched a fifteen-year-old with yellow contacts gleefully daub red paint onto the face of a plastic doll that he was fairly sure was meant to be representing him.
It had been a surreal experience, seeing those schoolgirls play out their various adventures. There was something almost… freeing about it, he realised as he watched the recording again on the way back to the bunker. It really put some of the crazy crap they went through into perspective.
And then Dean had to go and make a big deal out of the… interpretations of the supernatural books. And Sam got curious, okay?
So the next time he had a few hours to himself while Dean was out doing god knew what, Sam got himself a beer from the fridge, sat himself down at the library table, flicked open his laptop and opened a browser tab.
A quick search was more than enough to find what he was looking for. It wasn’t exactly well hidden. The first result in google was the official website for Chuck’s books- it hadn’t aged well. Even back in 2007 when the books were being published Sam would have said it looked outdated. Whoever had designed it obviously wasn’t being paid much. Who ever made official graphics in comic sans? He shook his head, backtracking.
But the link below that led to a rather better curated fan site. Sam narrowed his eyes as he scrolled down. There were the links to the publishers, but also PDFs of the later, unpublished books. There were dates for conventions along with links to get tickets. And at the bottom, there was a series of links to other websites, presumably places to chat with other fans.
He hovered his cursor over the link simply entitled tumblr and clicked.
There was so much. More than Sam had even thought possible for a tiny series of books with a cult following.
He ended spending most of the afternoon falling into the apparently bottomless pit of online fandom. The raft of empty beer bottles at his elbow grew as he roamed his way through the understorey of the internet. He scrolled with fascination through blogs full of pictures edited to look like them, through fan theories of what they were like, and then speculation about things the books didn’t show. Continuations, ‘missing scenes’, and… other things. If Sam never had to accidentally read another poorly-written full-frontal account of Cas and Dean’s fictitious sex life, it would be too soon.
And, well, there were so many things they’d got wrong. Or not quite right. But Sam didn’t feel right about commenting on people’s stories; they didn’t want some randomer coming along and critiquing their characterisation.
So the only way to correct it, he thought with tipsy confidence, was to write it how it had actually happened. He started off small; wrote a few of their more recent hunts, made a blog, and before he could think about it too much, pressed that ‘post’ button.
When he woke up in the morning, he was surprised to find all the notes and comments. Apparently, people liked his writing. A lot.
So he wrote more. And more. Soon Sam was pretty sure he had an addiction. It wasn’t like he had any lack of free time in which to write- Dean was always so stubborn about which of them got to drive, so he had hours and hours of sitting in the passenger seat to fill, and there was only so long he could spend researching.
So his blog quickly grew.
At first, it was strictly real life that he wrote; hunts they’d recently been on, anecdotes, slices of their lives. It helped him to cope, to get all of his thoughts and emotions out of his head and onto paper. But soon, he was branching out into ‘fix it fic’- for him, it was wistful thoughts about possibilities of what could have been if they’d taken different roads. If they’d just managed to save a person here, trusted someone else there. One or two about what might happen if Cas and Dean ever pulled their heads out of their asses.
So he was pretty deep already by the time he stumbled across the Sabriel.
He had just woken up when he found it. He was sitting at the bunker kitchen table, scrolling through his feed over a cup of coffee. Gifset, meta analysis, pictures, art, gif-
Wait.
He got the the end of the post and just stopped scrolling for a second, blinking. Had that art been of him and Gabriel? He scrolled back up.
It was. They were hugging- the artist had got the height difference right, he distantly noted. It was a good likeness even. It was quite chaste compared to a lot of the things that crossed his screen, but there was… something about it. He blinked some more, feeling his forehead scrunch a little as he narrowed his eyes at the screen.
He wasn’t offended by it or anything. Mostly, he was just confused.
Him and Gabriel? Really?
Why?
He and Gabriel had barely known each other. The archangel had hardly talked to him. Even when he had, those words had more often than not been angry. They had started off hunting him after all. And they hadn’t parted mystery spot as friends. Hell, on top of that, Gabriel was dead! Long dead!
Sam clicked on the artist’s profile and scrolled further down, a huff of amused disbelief breaking out of him. The art definitely wasn’t a one-off, and judging from all the reblogs, they were far from the only shipper. No matter what had really happened, these people seemed to think that they had potential.
He sat back, resting his phone down on the table and considering. Huh. What would that even be called? Samiel? Sambriel?
He checked the tags. Sabriel, apparently.
It was impossible. Totally and utterly implausible. Maybe that was what drew him to it. There was no way any of this could work its way into Sam’s real life. He didn’t see any harm in it.
At first it just amused him. But gradually, over time, he found himself starting to seek it out. The ‘incorrect quotes’ made him laugh, either because they were hilariously out of character or (more often than not) hilariously in character. The mood boards made him smile. The art sometimes tugged too-tight at his heart, but it was always amazing. And the fic was something else.
Before he knew it, he was following a whole host of sabriel blogs, reblogging their content to his own. He even made a few friends.
And, gradually? He was starting to see it too. The books had been more revealing about Gabriel than he ever had been in real life. Meta posts pointed out the similarities between their characters, between their stories, and it made Sam realise that they really hadn’t been that different after all. Gabriel had been just as desperate and afraid as he was back then, he’d just had different ways of hiding it. And if the scant number of scenes from Gabriel’s point of view were as accurate as the rest of the books, it certainly looked like he’d had a soft spot for Sam, much as Sam thought he’d never showed it.
Just how many of their interpretations were true? he wondered as he stared at his dimmed computer screen while the streetlamps flashed past on another midnight road. Was there a possibility that, if Gabriel was alive, they could have got along?
He felt a little pang at the thought that they’d never talked at all, really, before he died. Sam felt he knew the archangel better now than he ever had back then. Knowing what he knew now, he wished that he’d at least been friends with him.
In a way, fictional Sam had it better than real him did. The more he read, the more he realised he was craving what his fictional self had; stability, a partner. Someone to come back home to, someone to wrap his arms around at night. It wasn’t like there could ever be any permanent lovers in his real life. He could never keep what he did a secret, or drag someone into this life. And after Eileen, he didn’t have the heart to date anyone within the business. The mortality rate for hunters was just too high.
He looked out the window, shaking his head at himself as they rushed through the night. How sad had his life become? A little voice at the back of his head whispered maliciously. Was he really sitting here daydreaming wistfully about a normal life like some kind of caricature of himself?
Well maybe I am, he retaliated almost angrily. He had few enough permanent good things in his life, and his writing was a lifeline that kept him afloat. It was an escape from the violence and monotony of their lives. It wasn’t hurting anyone. If he wanted to fantasise about having somebody who cared about him, then what the hell, he was gonna do it.
With renewed determination, he opened a new document and started to type.
                                                            ...
So it went on. He wrote when Amara rose. He wrote then their Mom came back from the dead. He wrote to forget his torture at the hands of the British Men of Letters. He wrote when Cas died, when he lost their Mom, when they found Jack, when Cas returned from the Empty. It was his crutch; whenever things got bad, out came a fresh google doc and onto the page it all went. By the time they were trying to get their Mom back from the apocalypse world, his little blog had over two thousand followers all eagerly awaiting his updates.
So obviously, because this was the Winchester’s luck, that was when Gabriel came back to life.
                                                           .o0o.
Gabriel would like it noted down that it was Cas’ fault. For the record.
“Brother. You need to take a break.”
Gabriel looked down at him from heaven’s throne and raised an unimpressed eyebrow. It was a look he’d been perfecting these last few weeks since he’d come back upstairs to reclaim what was left of his birthright and discovered how almost frighteningly easily the other angels fell into line- the first time he’d done it, a cupid had actually keeled over.
Castiel, on the other hand, didn’t back down even half an inch. That seraph had balls of steel. It was one of the things Gabriel liked best about his brother- he had no fear of calling Gabriel out on his bullshit, unlike the rest of the cowardly sycophants up here.
“You have been snapping at the seraphim all week. I believe you need to, as Dean would put it, ‘take a load off’.”
He even crooked his fingers to make the air quotation marks. Adorable.
Gabriel heaved a sigh. “And what do you suggest I do? A zumba class? Go out and commune with nature?”
Castiel was undeterred by his prickly demeanor. “What did you used to do to relax?”
“Mess with dickheads until they died,” Gabriel answered. Cas stared at him blankly, waiting.
“... Make amateur porn?” he suggested.
Cas sighed, rolling his eyes and turning with a swish of trench coat. “Just… go and find something to do, Gabriel. Something productive. Read a book,” he called over his shoulder as he strode out of heaven’s throne room.
Gabriel scoffed to himself, slouching back on the throne to sulk. Read a book? Like literature could hold his attention at the moment. What he needed to do was get outta here and stop wallowing in his own juices!
But if he was being honest with himself (not something he made a habit of), he really didn’t know what he wanted to do once he did manage to get out. He was… aimless. And the longer he sat here with nothing to distract him, the more those memories lurking at the back of his mind dragged their fingernails against his consciousness.
You know what? Maybe he would read that book.
He stood and snapped himself to the nearest bookstore before he had any more time to chew it over. Walking over to the fiction section, he perused along the shelves. Yes, escapism, that was what he needed!
But nothing appealed. Every damn book he picked up seemed to be either a cheap Game of Thrones knock-off or vampire erotica, and he’d already had his fun with Stephanie Meyer.
He was about to snap himself away again in frustration when he paused. There was something poking out of the discount book bin. That cover looked strangely familiar…
He picked it up, smirking at the hunks on the cover, and turned it over to read the blurb. His eyes widened. Holy guacamole. He couldn’t believe it!
He started laughing, uncontrollable whole-body-shaking hoots that quickly turned into constricted wheezing, tears forming in the corners of his eyes. People started backing away from him, but he didn’t care. Oh, this was great! Of all the books that had to catch his eye, it had to be this one. If he didn’t know better, he’d say this was Dad-ordained fate.
He nearly skipped up to the counter, slapping the book down next to the cash register. “Hey, you got any more of these?”
The guy behind it eyed him with concern. “Yeah, should be more if you dig in the bottom of the bin. You like them?”
“Oh yeah,” Gabriel grinned like a slightly manic shark. “I’m a big fan.”
                                                                 ...
“Father above, their lives are depressing.”
Gabriel tossed the last book off the dais with a sigh, lobbing it neatly through a wormhole. Well, that had helped pass a few hours, at least. But after binging his way through two entire lifetimes’ worth of tragedy and man-tears, he was outta reading material.
What now?
Idly, Gabriel pulled out the phone that Sam had given him the last time he popped down to update them. Installing WiFi in heaven had been the first thing he did when he limped back. His siblings would thank him. Eventually.
He typed ‘supernatural’ into google.
And, wow. His eyes widened. That was a lot of porn. Ah, humanity at their finest- it didn’t matter how angst-soaked the source material was, in his experience, there was always at least one fan who would say, “hmmm this needs more nudity!” And, apparently, this fandom had more than one fan who thought Sam and Dean needed more hanky panky in their lives.
He chuckled, scrolling down the entries. Damn, he liked these people already!
“Bingo.” He clicked on a link.
The site flashed up before his eyes, summaries and ratings in their colourful boxes catching his attention. Now this was more like it! He snapped himself up a big tub of popcorn and dug in.
                                                            …
He was half way through the tag when he started finding the sabriel.
For the first time since he’d started reading four days ago, his finger paused on the touchpad. His grin faded a little.
So they’d noticed that, had they? He’d thought it wasn’t too obvious from the books, but humans were intuitive.
Tentatively, he clicked. He read, getting more and more wound up the further down he got.
He snorted to himself as he reached the bottom of the page. Where was the danger? The drama? The strippers? He didn’t belong in a coffee shop AU! He pressed the back button, scowling. He searched the tag itself, and wasn’t much more impressed. Why was there so much domesticity? He was a maverick! A rolling stone!
Hey, maybe he should start writing? Show them all where they were going wrong? Because somewhere along the line they’d clearly got the completely wrong impression of his character.
And okay, he thought as he set himself up an account, so maybe they’d been right about him nursing a little crush on the younger Winchester from afar. That was fine! Nobody in real life needed to know! He could just bury that one at the bottom of the ocean in a mental curse box with all the other things he deliberately didn’t think about. As far as Gabriel was concerned, he would keep all his feelings right here in his chest, and then one day Sam would die, and that would be the end of it. And Gabriel’s heart would shatter into a million tiny shards and he would never be quite right again.
But whatever! Not like that was gonna spillover into what he wrote or anything. No, this work of creative genius was gonna be one-hundred-percent SEX, as many chapters of raunchy, kinky, personal-fantasy-fulfilling porn as he could get out onto paper. No feelings here. None whatsoever.
So he conjured a laptop, opened up a playlist for inspiration, and started to write.
                                                             .o0o.
The first time that Sam ever really paid any attention to Angel_In_the_Streets_Trickster_In_the_Sheets was when he reblogged the call-out post:
Fandoms-forevr: I don’t care what they say, Sam is always the worst character. No matter what else he’s done, the stans can’t deny the facts; he opened a portal to hell. He opened the cage and started the apocalypse. He’s a selfish, manipulative asshole. Tbh if Sam wasn’t in the books, Dean could be retired by now and not be dragged around cleaning up after Sam’s sorry ass.
Sam apologists, don’t interact.
It had been nearly 3am and most of the way through a bottle of whisky, and Sam had reblogged it as an act of drunken self-flagellation. Then he had flicked his phone off, rolled over, and fallen asleep like a baby seal that had been clubbed over the head with a bottle of Jack Daniels.
He woke up to online carnage.
He thought that the notifications were a hallucination from his raging hangover for a second, but when he blinked they didn’t disappear. His eyes widened as he scrolled down the long list of angry reblogs. Some seemed to be arguing for him, some against him. Who the hell had started all this drama?
He scrolled down to the first reblog.
Angel_In_the_Streets_Trickster_In_the_Sheets reblogged: I’m sorry, but Sam? A ‘selfish, manipulative asshole’? What have you been smoking? Whatever it is, put that blunt down, cos it’s making you delusional.
First off, I know this post is about Sam, but you really think Dean would stop hunting without having to be literally chained to the floor? Puh-lease, that boy isn’t gonna stop moving until he gets hitched to Castiel.
Anyway, back to Sam. You’re wrong. Don’t know how you can’t see that, but here, let me take you to the character optometrist...
And then they went off.
The post kept going, a whole list of passionate arguments. Sam felt a smile twitch at the corner of his mouth. He might not agree with their points, but whoever they were, they had style.
Sam had seen people defending him before. He tended to avoid those sorts of posts; it made him uncomfortable for some reason. He knew he didn’t deserve these people’s praise. But for some reason, those usual feelings of guilt and inadequacy weren’t surfacing
The good feelings faded when he opened up his personal messages.
Angel_In_the_Streets_Trickster_In_the_Sheets said: Call yourself a Sam fan? I thought you were meant to be on his side?
Sam frowned at his phone. The reblogs, okay, but personal messaging? Really? His fingers poised over the keys to write an acerbic response, but he restrained himself. He didn’t owe random dickheads on the internet any explanations!
Angel_In_the_Streets_Trickster_In_the_Sheets… why was that familiar? He’d seen them around once or twice before, he realised; sabriel wasn’t the biggest ship ever, so chances were if someone was on board then Sam would have at least heard of them.
But recently, Gabriel’s real life return had put a bit of a damper on his reading and writing. It was one thing writing yourself into a relationship with someone who was, to all intents and purposes, not real- it was quite another to write yourself sharing a loving embrace with someone who regularly popped in to give you updates on how heaven was doing under new management. He was surprised he could even look Gabriel in the face after some of the things he’d read about them.
That was it! Sam nodded to himself as he realised where he’d seen them before. The kinkmeme. Of course.
He opened up their A03 profile. Unsurprisingly, there was nothing in there less explicit than an E. Half of their fics made Sam blush down to his scalp just by looking at the summaries. There were some… colourful entries in there.
Sam hovered his cursor over the latest fic. With trepidation, he clicked.
“Spank me. It’s the only way I learn.”
Sam waved his cute patootie in the air, already marked with several cherry-red handprints like the naughty boy he was.
“Oh, you’re gonna learn, sweet-cheeks. And you’re gonna enjoy it.”
Gabriel ran his fingers across the array of toys before him, and as he glanced up, a sharp smirk tugging at his lips, he had never looked more dangerous. Dangerous, powerful and sexy. He picked out the biggest dildo, the one as long as Sam’s arm and twice as shiny, and in one swift thrust he rammed it into his tight little-
“Oh my god,” Sam choked, turning the laptop screen away a little. He needed a moment. That was… that wasn’t physically possible. Or at least, not pleasurable at all. It couldn’t be.
Was it?
He glanced back at the text. It was just morbid curiosity, that was all, he told himself. Just morbid... curiosity…
He read the whole thing. And then another one. And another one.
Sam surreptitiously adjusted his pants. Okay, so they could write, he thought to himself. That didn’t make them any less of an asshole. But he did decide to message them back.
Moose-of-Letters- Look, we’ve got different opinions. Could you just stay in your lane and stop bothering me?
It took a surprisingly short length of time before a reply to pop up.
Angel_In_the_Streets_Trickster_In_the_Sheets- I’ll stop bothering you when you aren’t reblogging hate posts
Sam scowled, feeling his temper rise. Who did they think they were, telling him what he could and couldn’t have on his blog? Like their own wasn’t a dumpster fire of discourse posts!
“What you looking at?”
Sam nearly jumped out of his seat, hiding his phone in reflex. Dean was standing behind him, grey robe on, steaming mug of coffee in hand.
“Selkie lore,” Sam grunted defensively.
Dean snorted. “What have selkies ever done to you?” Sam looked up again, frowning in confusion. Dean plonked himself down in the seat opposite, pulling the toast towards himself. “You look like you’re ready to open up a can of whoop-ass. What’s up?”
“Nothing,” Sam muttered. “Late night, that’s all.” Dean raised his eyebrows but stayed silent, accepting his answer. Sam angled his phone away from his brother and typed furiously.
Moose-Of-Letters Commented: I’m not going to even bother arguing with you. If we can’t have a conversation like adults, then just fuck off.
He brought up their profile, his finger hovering over the ‘block’ button, but he paused. They were one of his followers.
Maybe… maybe he was being a little harsh. It had been a hate post, and he usually tried to be positive about all the ‘characters’, while he was sober at least- he didn’t normally put up with character hate. He’d been pretty vocal about it in the past. No wonder people had been taken aback, even if this one had dealt with it rudely. Slowly, he took his finger off the button, going back to the chat. How should he phrase this?
Moose-Of-Letters Commented: Look, some of the stuff with Sam is kind of personal for me, it’s a bit too close to home. I’m sorry if I got snappy with you.
Angel_In_the_Streets_Trickster_In_the_Sheets- Oops. Too late for that
What did that mean? As soon as Sam thought that, his feed updated. And there it was, right at the top.
Angel_In_the_Streets_Trickster_In_the_Sheets posted- The great battle for Sam’s dignity begins. Who woulda thought it but Moose-of-Letters is officially the enemy of the people. I declare war!!
The text was followed by a gif of a pair or armoured knights facing off while brandishing rubber dildos. Already there had been another flurry of reblogs and arguments. Sam rolled his eyes, turning off is phone. Why did he even bother?
                                                              …
Gabriel was scrolling down his feed idly. Honestly, as much as he moaned about ruling heaven, there wasn’t that much to do. The most difficult thing he’d solved this morning was a disagreement between the Virtues as to whether the lesser cherubs should be classified using a tiered system or not. Who cared! It didn’t matter!! After that, the inane squabbles of tumblr discourse looked almost sensible.
Almost.
But then, he did enjoy causing chaos and then sitting back and watching everyone fall over themselves in indignation. That was just funny.
And what was even better were the increasingly frustrated and snarky reblogs he’d been getting from an account he’d decided to target after they reblogged that Dad-awful Sam hate post. They’d totally deserved it. He was amazed they hadn’t blocked him yet, but he was taking advantage of having someone to rile up while it lasted. Their replies had been getting progressively more pointed and it gave Gabriel a vicious sort of satisfaction. He was planning another volley of posts this afternoon, and he had some scorching insults lined up.
He reblogged some excellent fanart of Dean in a pair of pink panties (must remember to leave that somewhere for him to find), skipped over another post about the latest tumblr scandal (someone was making earrings out of human bones!?), but then he paused. He felt a flash of excitement- his nemesis was posting again.
Moose-of-Letters posted: Ugh, it annoys me so much when people try to pass Gabriel off as someone who just has loads of sex and eats candy and does nothing else. Like whatever, you want an outlet for your kinks, but it’s just bad characterisation.
Oh, he knew who this was aimed at. He felt his feathers fluff in annoyance. They were vagueing about him? And for all the things they could go for, they decided to take aim at writing. He quickly batted away a twinge of insecurity. It was his aesthetic! Who were they to judge his style? He could write Gabriel however the hell he liked!
He had a strange moment of dissociation where he realised he’d been thinking of himself in the third person, but he brushed it off. Obviously they thought they were just judging a character, but there was no way he couldn’t take this personally. Gabriel was offended on behalf of his fictional self. He opened up a direct message window again.
Angel_In_the_Streets_Trickster_In_the_Sheets- Look, if you’ve got a problem with my fics, just come into my comments and flame me like a normal person.
It didn’t take long for a reply to come in.
Moose-of-Letters- What makes you think that post’s about your fics? Hmm it’s almost as though you know it’s a flaw in your writing
And then, before Gabriel could do more than gape at his screen in disbelieving insult,
Moose-of-Letters- And it’s not that I don’t enjoy your writing, but I find your characterisation of Gabriel is off. You write him as though he’s just this candy-addicted nymphomaniac when it’s obvious that those things are shields. I was just trying to get people to appreciate that he’s clearly a much more complex character with deeper motivations!
Shields!? Where were they getting this stuff? Gabriel liked sex! He loved sex! All hot people all the time!
Well, the best defence was a good offence.
Angel_In_the_Streets_Trickster_In_the_Sheets: Well if you’re so high and mighty, how would you characterise Gabriel? Sensitive with a side of Single Man Tears?
The jumping dots appeared under his reply. Then they stopped.
Gabriel smirked. Ha! Come back to that, dickweed!
But then the dots were back, the person on the other end obviously typing furiously. Gabriel watched, waiting for the answer to appear. What the hell were they writing, an essay? A novel? An epic?
Moose-of-Letters- Of course not. He’s an archangel, a warrior. But I think that Gabriel cares a lot more than he lets on. He’s got a huge heart, even though he tries his best to hide it because he’s been hurt by people he cares about. And I think that he feels a lot of hurt about his family. I think that’s why he gets so mad at Sam and Dean in TV land, because they remind him of his brothers, but he knows that he can’t yell at them directly so Sam and Dean get the brunt of his anger instead.
Gabriel winced. Not one of his better moments.
Moose-of-Letters- But I think that even more than loving his brothers, Gabriel loves humanity. In the Elysian Fields motel I think it’s clear that he feels guilty that he wasn’t strong enough to protect the humans from the apocalypse, even though that was never his fault. The Winchesters should have never guilted him into it, because every time he tries to help them he ends up dead.
Well, Moose wasn’t wrong.
The worst part was that he did seem to have Gabriel right so far. The guy had him bang on, whoopie for him. It wasn’t even like they were using that knowledge to insult him- they were defending him, even! But there was something painfully vulnerable about somebody laying out his character like that. Something violating. Like ripping off a scab and leaving the stinging, raw emotions underneath open to the elements.
And it made Gabriel angry. Suddenly, he realised that was what this feeling brewing in his chest and prickling behind his eyes was. His blood was boiling; who were these people to Know him? He hadn’t given out any of this information voluntarily!! It had been ripped from his control, the most intimate workings of his mind printed on pulp and handed out for people on the internet to pick over, like vultures at a carcass.
Suddenly, the books didn’t seem so funny any more. He was starting to realise why the Winchesters had wanted them gone for all these years
Screw his Dad, seriously. A+ parenting all round.
He was about to angrily snap the laptop shut when another message popped up.
Moose-of-Letters- I think all the characters tend to underestimate Gabriel, in different ways, and I think that the writer did too. I just have a lot of admiration for his character because I can relate to a lot of what he’s gone through.
Gabriel deflated. These people didn’t know. They hadn’t got a clue that any of this was real. And this person in particular had obviously seen his character, him, for who he was, but they hadn’t run screaming. They were… defending him?
He stared at the screen, nonplussed. Why?
Angel_In_the_Streets_Trickster_In_the_Sheets: You really like Gabriel, huh?
Moose-of-Letters: I think it’s impossible to spend all this time getting to know about someone and not care about them.
Angel_In_the_Streets_Trickster_In_the_Sheets: and you think you know him? The real him?
Moose-of-Letters: I’d like to think so. Hey, sorry I came off as an asshole. And I’m sorry if I’ve been an asshole about other things as well. It’s just something I’m really passionate about.
Angel_In_the_Streets_Trickster_In_the_Sheets: That makes two of us.
Gabriel quirked an ironic little smile to himself. Even here, in the underbelly of the internet, people were still reminding him why he’d always defended humanity. Their ability for change and forgiveness was something he wished angels had a hang of. He kept typing.
Angel_In_the_Streets_Trickster_In_the_Sheets: I guess I should apologise for the insults, even if they were super creative. And you’re not a bad writer yourself. My dad was a writer once, and you’re definitely better than him. I’m pretty new to it.
Moose-of-Letters: I’d be happy to give you some pointers if you’ll give me some! your smut is hot as hell ;)
Gabriel laughed, properly this time. Oh, he could already tell this was going to be a very fruitful alliance.
                                                          .o0o.
Goldenhorns posted- There’s nothing weirder than seeing Angel_In_the_Streets_Trickster_In_the_Sheets and Moose-of-Letters getting along. It’s like watching God and Satan getting pally.
Vatican-came0s commented: Correction; there’s only one thing weirder than seeing Angel_In_the_Streets_Trickster_In_the_Sheets and Moose-of-Letters getting along, and it’s seeing them give each other fic suggestions. How the hell is that even happening!?
Gabes-hoe commented: I have no idea, but they will have the most gorgeous plotty-smutty literature babies together
Guess_who_lost_a_shoe commented: I for one welcome our new fic creating overlords!
Gabriel smirked as he saw the post crop up on his dash. It was definitely more entertaining watching everyone’s sudden confusion at them getting along than it ever had been when he was trying to make them angry.
It was the strangest friendship he’d ever made, and coming from someone who’d spent several centuries as a trickster god, that was saying something.
But he and Moose (as he’d insisted on calling him) had started talking more and more over the last three weeks, and the more they talked, the more Gabriel was realising that they had in common. Seeing his own character through someone else’s eyes was fascinating. And Moose was great once he’d got to know him- they might have different approaches to writing fic, but he was kind, level-headed, and an amazing writer with some awesome ideas. Gabriel was writing more now than he had in months-
“Gabriel, are you even listening?” Cas’ deep voice interrupted his thoughts. Gabriel’s head jerked up to where he was standing in front of the throne.
“Hmm yeah. Uh. What?”
Castiel rolled his eyes. “You are distracted again, brother. At least pretend to pay attention.”
But it was no use, not when his new favourite commenter popped up in his notifications. Gabriel snatched a glance at his notes between appointments. Oooh, Moose was commenting on his WIPs.
Moose-of-Letters- Love the descriptions! Maybe put a short bridging scene between them meeting in the club and getting to the shibari, though? The transition feels a little abrupt.
Gabriel nodded to himself. Moose was right, it did need another scene in there before it got to the bondage part- he’d do that later. But working on his ever-growing library would have to wait. He turned his phone to silent, stowing it in a pocket. It was almost time for the weekly appointment he looked forward to and dreaded in equal measure; going to visit Sam.
                                                         .o0o.
Sam had spent most of the morning alternating between frantically researching or repeatedly checking his phone, trying to keep himself busy enough with making protective hex bags for the new hunters that he could stay calm and prepare himself for Gabriel's weekly visit. But he still didn’t feel either calm or prepared when the beating of wings filled the kitchen.
Gabriel appeared with a pop in front of him, tugging the collar of that leather jacket he favoured these days back into place. The archangel nodded at him, looking him up and down. “Sam.”
“Gabe.” Internally, Sam winced. Was ‘Gabe’ too informal? It felt too informal. Was it something he’d picked up from everything he’d been reading? He didn’t know any more! Fanfiction wasn't reality, he knew that damnit, but sometimes it just slipped out-
Gabriel, thankfully, didn’t seem to have noticed his internal struggle. He bounced on the balls of his feet, his arms swinging stiffly at his sides as he looked around the kitchen like he felt the awkwardness as keenly as Sam did.
The silence stretched out painfully. Sam had to say something. Anything.
“How are you?” he blurted, at the same time as Gabriel said, “So, wotcha been doing down here?” Sam snapped his mouth shut. Gabriel smirked, mischief twinkling in his eyes. “Ladies first.”
Normally, this would be where Sam would fire back something witty before they got down to business. But some fanart Sam had seen of Gabriel posing in an extremely short skirt and silky, lacy lingerie under it appeared behind his eyes like a goddamn real life pop-up. Sam cleared his throat, shaking it off.
They managed to get through most of Sam’s updates on the new hunters without him embarrassing himself, which Sam thought was a serious achievement. At some point they moved to sit at the kitchen table, Sam with his hands clasped in front of him. Gabriel was fiddling absentmindedly with one of the pieces of string Sam had been using to make the hex bags while Sam talked. “So yeah, we managed to get that demon nest cleared up before they could kill anyone else. I was worried we might have something more powerful on our hands, but it looks like it was just a very charismatic leader. I think he was running for candidacy for the king of hell.”
Gabriel nodded as he listened to Sam intently, twirling the string between his fingers, snapping it tight before letting it go slack again. “Good. As long as everyone downstairs is still distracted, we should be able to get established before they rally.” He glanced up. Was Sam imagining the way that tawny gaze softened when Gabriel looked at him? Was he searching for fondness that wasn’t there? He couldn’t tell any more.
Gabriel sat back with a dramatic sigh. “We’re nearly good to go up there, the souls and heavens are finally stable but I’m still trying to find another angel apart from Cassie with more personality than a banana skin…”
Sam found his attention trailing off, Gabriel’s hands holding his gaze, those clever fingers twisting and pulling at the string. A scene flashed past his eyes from Trickster’s latest fic that he’d read just that morning-
Gabriel gave one last tug on the ropes, pulling them tight. He looked down in satisfaction at the intricate series of loops holding his lover exactly where he wanted him- bent over the bed, legs slightly spread, back arched beautifully. An entire smorgasbord of skin, all laid out for him to enjoy.
Sam whined behind his gag. Gabriel could see him testing the knots, flexing his arms where they were tied behind his back, but he knew they would hold. Those tanned muscular thighs, gleaming with sweat, were straining against the ropes, but he was rocking against the silk sheets in a way that made it very clear he was still helplessly turned on.
Gabriel rested one hand against his back, stilling him. Slowly, he soothed the hand  upwards, and Sam melted at the contact. Finally he relaxed into the ropes’ embrace. The sight of Sam so willingly submitting himself to Gabriel’s complete control fanned the hunger burning in his gut flare into a roar-
“Sam? Hey, gigantor! Anybody home?”
Sam jerked, his eyes flashing guiltily to Gabriel’s. Gabriel raised a questioning eyebrow. Sam, to his mortification, felt himself flush scarlet. Gabriel’s eyebrow nearly disappeared into his hair.
Damn it, Sam, get it together! “Just… uh…” Sam cleared his throat. “Just thinking about demons. Uuuh, about going back to look for any we missed. Just in case. And we’re going to hunt wha I’m pretty sure is a chupacabra later, so… yeah. That as well.”
“Okay,” Gabriel still looked dubious. “Aaanyway, I gotta be getting back. The cherubs get jittery without someone telling them what to do every second of every day. But I should be back same time next week. What day is it again?”
Sam felt a lead weight form in his gut. He had to know, didn’t he? But time ran differently in heaven.
“It’s… it’s a Tuesday.” He couldn’t help the way his voice stuttered on that last word. Even after all these years, Dean still had to change the station whenever Asia came on the radio.
Sam saw Gabriel’s eyes widen. He froze awkwardly, his usual confident smirk slipping. Sam had no doubt that they were both thinking of the same thing- the six months that Sam had spent trapped in that time loop. The silence thickened.
Gabriel opened his mouth as though he was going to say something, grimaced, and Sam waited, his breath catching for a drawn-out second. Were they finally going to talk about this?
Then Gabriel closed it again in a huff. Sam tried not to show his slump of disappointment.
“So, same time next week?”
“Yeah, see you-” there was a flurry of flapping and Gabriel disappeared, “-next week,” Sam sighed.
He rubbed his face tiredly with one hand. Well, that could have gone better. Time to drown his sorrows in fanfiction.
                                                              .o0o.
Gabriel was in too deep, and he knew it.
He scowled at his latest WIP. He’d retreated to his favourite spot in the Garden and pulled up the kinkmeme prompt as soon as he got back from his little trip earth-side in the hopes that it would drive any residual anxiety out of his brain. No luck there. This was supposed to be porn, dad-damn it!  So why were they still talking? Why were they having a meaningful conversation instead of getting down and dirty? Where the hell had all these feelings come from?
He leaned back against the trunk of the nearest tree, staring out moodily across the sunlit clearing and the vast forest beyond. The problem, he grumped to himself, was what had happened that afternoon. He had put his foot in his mouth, again. Which wasn’t an unusual occurrence. There weren’t that many safe topics outside of work when it came to Sam.
And he had wanted to talk to Sam about Mystery Spot this time, he had! He wanted to move past this. He’d tried to get the words out. But as usual, he’d frozen, and his cowardice had won out. And then he’d run away. What the hell had he been thinking!?
Sam was his friend. Probably his last friend outside of heaven (well, apart from Moose). Sam had seen him at his lowest, cleaned him up and taken out those damn stitches, brought him back from being locked within his own mind, hell, even jumped in front of him to deflect Michael’s blade during that last desperate battle in the apocalypse world. Gabriel had hurt him and he wanted to fix it, but he just couldn’t get the words out.
A gentle breeze stirred around him. He took a deep breath of the sweet air, looking out into the once-busy emptiness of heaven.
Well, if he couldn’t apologise to Sam, at least fictional him could. Maybe it was time to take a leaf out of Moose’s book.
                                                         .o0o.
Sam bolted up the stairs, flinging himself into the nearest room and looking around wildly. Unfortunately it looked like it was a dead end- the window of the deserted shack was too small to squeeze through. Should he go and try another room?
But he was too late. The sound of the chupacabra they were hunting climbing it’s way up the stairs reached him. Shit! He’d have to hide.
Sam looked around, spotting a cupboard in the corner. He grimaced, climbing in. It wasn’t ideal, but it would have to do. Silently, he pulled the doors shut behind himself.
The creature reached the top of the stairs. There was a muted clicking of claws on wood. The overloaded groan of a floorboard.
The chupacabra stopped. It sniffed the air. Through the tiny gap between the doors, Sam could see its forked tongue flickering out to taste the air, bulging eyes peering around the room. Sam held his breath and hoped that its hearing wasn’t sharp enough to pick up his heart thumping against his ribs.
It hitched in a breath, and sneezed violently. Sam flinched. His grip on his machete was so tight that he was sure his knuckles were turning white. It snorted, shaking itself with a rattle of spines.
With another grunt, it turned to leave. Sam dared to take the thinnest breath. His muscles relaxed just slightly.
PING!
The monster whirled. It’s lamplight eyes pinpointed the cupboard. Sam felt his phone vibrate in his pocket with the notification and had a moment to screw his eyes shut. Fuck! Why hadn’t he turned it off when they started!?
Luckily, at that moment, Dean’s war cry split the air. Sam leapt from the cupboard, machete already swinging. He could berate himself later. Right now, he had bigger fish to fry.
                                                             …
“Was the flamethrower really necessary?”
Dean looked back in satisfaction at the smoking remains of the shack. “The flamethrower is always necessary.”
Sam rolled his eyes, sliding into the front seat. He hoped he got soot on the upholstery.
Pulling his phone out of his pocket, he was relieved to see that it didn’t appear to have been damaged in the fight. The screen was still whole. He powered it on, and there it was, the notification that had nearly got him killed.
Archive Of Our Own
[AO3] Angel_In_the_Streets_Trickster_In_the_Sheets just posted a new work :)
Sam groaned. Fanfiction was literally going to be the death of him.
                                                        .o0o.
Moose-of-Letters commented: Hey, I like the new fic, it’s different from your usual. Sorry I didn’t comment earlier, I was a bit distracted.
Gabriel smiled as he opened his email. His new favourite commenter had picked up on it, because of course they had.
Angel_In_the_Streets_Trickster_In_the_Sheets: Yeah, guess this fic is your influence ;)
It had stuck with him, that conversation with Sam. Or rather, the parts of it that hadn’t happened. He’d been thinking about it, really thinking about it, in the times between his heavenly appointments.
Re-reading the book featuring Mystery Spot from Sam’s point of view had been quite an eye-opener. He’d been so focused, the first time, on getting Sam to stop that he hadn’t truly realised what he was doing to him in his desperation. It had made him wonder- what would he do, if he could go back and change it all? Knowing what he did now, would he have been able to make a difference? He thought he might.
And if he were to talk to Sam about it now, what could he ever say to apologise to Sam for what he’d done to him?
A lot of that had made it onto the page. It was heavier than what he usually wrote, but somehow Gabriel felt lighter for it.
Moose-of-Letters: About the Mystery Spot, do you really think that Gabriel was doing any of that for Sam?
Gabriel sighed. He should have known that Moose would want to talk characterisation. What should he say?
Well, there was nothing stopping him from telling the truth.
Angel_In_the_Streets_Trickster_In_the_Sheets: I think he was doing that all for Sam. Gabriel was just trying to prepare Sam for Dean’s inevitable death- he knew the apocalypse was about to go down, remember? He knew what was coming, and he was trying to avert it.
Gabriel bit his lip, his fingers pausing over the keyboard. Was he really gonna pour his heart out to random strangers on the internet? Really?
But now he started, he just couldn’t seem to stop his fingers. And anyway, Moose wasn’t really a stranger at this point.
Angel_In_the_Streets_Trickster_In_the_Sheets: Gabriel couldn’t go to Sam directly because he’s got a soft spot for him. He likes him. He doesn’t like seeing humans get hurt who don’t deserve it, and the fact that his brothers are gonna cause so much destruction and he can’t do a thing to stop it is breaking his heart. That bit at the end where he gives in? He just couldn’t do it anymore, Sam out-stubborns him. He knows he wouldn’t be able to stand to see Sam hurting, and in the end? That’s why he failed. His love for humans is his weakness, the way he cares for Sam in particular.
There. It was out.
Gabriel pushed his laptop away, closing his eyes and resting his face in his hands. He needed a moment.
                                                        .o0o.
Sam sat back. Huh.
He honestly hadn’t expected Trickster’s first foray into more serious fics to be much good. Not because he couldn’t write- obviously he could, his work had been featuring heavily in Sam’s spank bank (as Dean would call it) for months now. Heavy-hitting just wasn’t his speciality, that was all.
But he had written it. And it was good.
It was emotional, and raw, and almost painfully in-character. Gabriel’s confession, his betrayal and his grief and anger and guilt were all so real that Sam wondered if Trickster had gone through something similar in his own life. He hadn’t been able to resist asking what Trickster thought Gabriel’s motivations were. He wished he could be as sure as Trickster was that Mystery Spot had been about Gabriel trying to save him. And he secretly doubted that Gabriel had given up his attempt because he cared for him. Not in real life.
But he could let himself live this fantasy for just a little longer, couldn’t he? He felt a pang in his heart that he was never going to have this conversation with Gabriel himself. This was probably as close as he was ever gonna get.
Slowly, Sam started typing.
Moose-of-Letters- Well, I think you’re right about Sam being stubborn. But it wasn’t Gabriel’s fault that Sam didn’t learn that lesson- I don’t think he ever would have. He was in too deep to ever realise what Gabriel was trying to say.
Sam hesitated, biting his lip. He started typing again.
Moose-of-Letters- I think they would both have been a lot happier if Gabriel had been able to get through to him. I wish it had gone like your fic in canon.
Angel_In_the_Streets_Trickster_In_the_Sheets: You and me both, Moose.
Sam smiled sadly. If only.
Moose-of-Letters- I’m not sure you’re right about Gabriel’s mercy being his weakness though. His love for humanity is what makes him different from his brothers. It’s what makes him human- it’s the thing that really drew me to his character in the first place. His love for humans might put him in the firing line, but I think it’s one of his greatest strengths as well. And I think his incredible empathy is one of the reasons why Sam would love him, as well as everything else they have in common. When it comes down to it, he’s ready to lay down everything for humanity too. They’re really kindred spirits.
Moose-of-Letters- Maybe if you’re trying angst I should give smut a go :P
And really, everything went downhill from there.
Part 2, coming soon!

Audio
Okay so this is what I’ve been working on, and it’s SUPER late, and probably has some mistakes, but I REALLY wanted to make a voice thing for Darkiplier’s reaction as the events of the 100k reblog challenge were happening, so here it finally is. It’s meant to be funny in a way but he also goes through a lot of pain and gets angry. [Length is about 4:28] This is NOT my voice, this IS Mark’s voice just edited. Audio from: [Link] & Darkiplier voice edit is by me, please don't repost.
Full Storyline/Captions are under the ‘Keep Reading’ cut. You will definitely want to Read along for best understanding of what’s happening as he speaks.
~~~
Darkiplier has been hearing rumors that Mark was killing He and Wilford off, and decides to check Markiplier's tumblr for conformation...
Opening it up, he addresses the fandom with his charming smile as usual.
"Hello Everybody!” *Motions to Mark's page as it loads up*  “So.. I'm going to take this in, with a modicum, of love..."
*Notices Theme on Marks blog is still the same since last he's seen it and rolls eyes.*
"Okay...This is literally just as bad as it once was..."
*Scrolls down a ways and sees some fanart of him and Wilford*
"Ohh, the memories are flooding back into me. Ah the horrors of which my Past has haunted me."
*Looks from his mouse, to laptop, then back to Mark’s Icon.*
“There comes a time in everybody’s life where they must sacrifice for the greater good, tho don’t worry.” *spoken to laptop* “I won’t break you, unless you deserve to be broken.”
*Sucks in breath as he sees a frightening post that indeed confirms Mark tells Audience that Warfstache and Dark are dead.*
*Speaks trying to contain his rage.*
“So long as we think, the most peaceful thoughts in the world.. We will be okay. We can perceiver..”
*Sucks in another deeper breath as he sees another post come up with a gif on it, suggesting Mark asking the fandom if they want him to kill Wilford and Dark, while the fandom says they love the characters.*
*Rather quickly after, another post arrives...*
*It’s a game... And an awful one at that!! 100k reblogs, or they’re dead forever!*
*Dark glares daggers at the screen.*
“Mmm, Yes.. If you listen closely enough, you can hear the anger neurons firing inside my brain.”
“I’m a man, of considerable patience... I’m thinking that maybe..” *Sees people in fandom begin to reblog it, and reblogs it on his own blog, unknown to Mark.* “That is the way life is...”
“We can beat this.”
*Looks to fandom* “We can beat this. Because I believe in me, Who believes in you.. And if we believe in each other Maybe we’ll-- What is that!! What is that?!”
*Sees that the same people are starting to reblog the post anywhere from 17 to 100 times on any of their blogs*
“What is that glowing glory over there! Could it be something that’s going to save me!?”
*Gasps as he watches the notes on Mark’s sick game start to climb rapidly by the thousands*
“I don’t know what that did But-- Wait!? Did [The Fandom] Feel pity on me!?”
“Did it feel... Pity on me...That’s what this is, isn’t it.. I see your game.”
*Instantly starts to feel more power come to him as Mark’s fans work to protect him and Wilford by reblogging the post.*
“This is the life! Mmm, there we are!”
*Suddenly feels the power being pulled away again, meaning that Mark no doubt is up to something more with this cruel game...*
*Sucks in a pained breath before addressing the fandom*
“Y-You guys don’t understand, how much I literally h-hate.... There is nothing I feel inside my soul for this Fuucking game...”
*Continues to feel weaker as he speaks and even reblogs the post some more himself.*
“Excuse me breathing like a beast in your ear... It’s the only thing I can do to stay sane.”
*Sees the post hit 50k!*
“This seems impossible, and yet.. I..”
*gets distracted as he reblogs again while whispering.* “There we go..”
*Gasps, watching as the post continues to gain notes* “I CAN DO THIS!”
“NGH!!!”
*Feels sharp pain again. Mark is definitely online, and is up to something! Dark pictures Damien and Celine when they’re alive and happy, and also sees all the good times he and the other ego’s have shared, especially with Wilford standing at his side. But he also can feel it being torn away by Mark’s schemes*
“I-I saw my life flash before my eyes...”
*Chokes back a sob. He won’t let himself cry!* “ I saw everything I knew and loved destroyed in front of me...”
“Umfh!” *Gasps in pain, while looking up at the laptop screen, The post has made it to 58K!! The Fandom is still fighting strong! They can do it!... Right?*
“Okay...” *Looks to The Fandom* “You see, the Arduous bullshit That I had to go through just to get to this one point! How in the flip-flapping, floop-dupin woorld, Would I have ever gotten there on my own?”
*It’s the best thank you to The Fandom he’s willing to give at the moment.*
*He smiles, despite the pains, and looks at the note count again.*
“Just a little bit Farther... What Are You Doing!?”
*He goes into a panicked rush of words, as he sees Mark has reblogged the post as well, with another comment of his own.*
*Time’s up.. #To little, To late*
Tumblr media
“Why are you doing that!? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? I ask you. I beg you. I call to the heavens. Why? Why are you doing that!? Why are you doing that!? Just Stop! Just be- Why the hell~!?”
*Trying to regain breath as the pains start again. He glares at Mark’s Icon, it’s eyes watching him as if it were mocking him.*
“I will literally kill you.. HGHHH~ I closed my eyes for one second and you tried to betray me! We have reached the precipice!”
*Continues to fight for consciousness, feeling weak but The Fandom continues to have hope, and continues to reblog the post even after Mark’s warning.*
“I hate this game so much...” “Okay...”
*Gasps loudly through more pain, but he’s finally feeling his energy return. He continues to glare at the icon*
“You are-- I hate you! With every Fiber of my being!!”
*Feels the last of his energy return, as Mark no doubt is done trolling for now. Even still, The Fandom’s persistence saved Dark and Wilford.. At least for now.*
“Mmmm!!! I Have DONE IT! I am Victorious!” “And anyone who disagrees with me--”
*Points at Fandom with menacing eyes, as he’s still in a rage* “Shall be punished Severely!”
*His gaze softens some then, as he sits up in his seat and straightens his suit.*
Tumblr media
“With that being said.  Now.. I.. Can bury this game in the annals of history.. Not the anals of history, the Annals, with two N's.. And let it be forgotten, And lie dead in the ocean where it belongs in prison down there with chains.. Unbreakable.”
*He lets a smile come to his face again as he remembers he needs The Fandom on his side from here on if he’s to survive whatever Hell Mark has planed for Him and Wilford.*
*Best to thank them, yeah?*
“So thank you everybody, and as always.. I will see you in the next video... BuhBye!”
~The End~
Sorry for the audio at the ‘and’ right on the end, I didn’t catch that. Hope you enjoyed this though!
Dissertation Writing: My Experience, Tips + Tricks
Tumblr media
This is a long awaited post that I have procrastinated writing. I would like to start with a dissclaimer that there are two types of students in their final year of college/university who will be writing their dissertations - those who care and those who do not. If you’re reading this post and researching advice for writing a dissertation it means that you care (at least enough to not fail it). I am sharing advice that I have learned last year, as I had 9 months to write my dissertation and ended up doing it pretty well.
Before I begin, I would like you to pay attention to other advice posts on Tumblr that I found useful last year - HERE, HERE and HERE.
1. START EARLY. The summer BEFORE your final year at university is the most crucial reading period for your dissertation. I’m not joking. You will have to read  A LOT of research articles, maybe even books, while trying to figure out your topic and then your methodology, etc. so you need to start reading ASAP. I made sure I looked at (at least) 2 research articles every day and once I found something useful, I would archive the necessary articles in RefWorks or Zotero. I also maintained a running Word Doc with links and APA citations for references that I used. You can use extensions like Zotero/RefWorks to make a reference list of all of your readings. They also help you reference authors/texts while writing your sections.
2. DEDICATE A NOTEBOOK. I dedicated a SEPARATE notebook for ALL of my dissertation notes! I would include information learned during the dissertation lectures, meetings with my advisor, research notes, any questions I had and then when I started data collection (because I did an experiment). Yours might be different but it’s a great idea to store all of the necessary information in one place and have access to it whenever you need it.
3. HAVE A SEPARATE FOLDER. In the same fashion, I bought a separate acordion file folder like THIS ONE to store the dissertation handbook, printed research articles, etc. in one place. As long as it is A4 size and doesn’t have annoying handles it will work fine.
4. FIGURE OUT DEADLINES. Pay attention to your dissertation handbook/syllabus (depending on your school) for important deadlines. I liked color coding my lectures and assignments in my planner, so I assigned a color for all tasks/events/assignments/presentations, etc. regarding my dissertation and wrote them down in my planner. I also use a monthly printable calendar, that’s pinned next to my desk, for a monthly overview of important things I need to remember to do. THESE are great, I also used THESE.
5. SET MEETINGS. During the first week of lectures, schedule a meeting with your advisor to discuss your summer research and topic. Your advisor will be the most important person regarding your dissertation work, as they will be able to offer you advise, challenge you to think of better arguments regarding your topic, scold you when you will be procrastinating, praise you for when you will be doing well and most importantly read your drafts. And trust me, you will have a lot of drafts. That first meeting is crucial to start off work well, as your advisor may have more than one student to supervise. You want to make a good + lasting impression.
6. WORK IN SECTIONS. If you’re worried about writing a big + long paper, this will help you out the most. Our professors emphasized working on sections before putting the whole paper together and this tip helped us keep sane. We started working on writing our literature review first, which included all of our references that we collected + read throughout the summer. We then moved onto writing an introduction, followed by methodology. These three sections were the most important for us to pass our research proposal and the course for the fall semester. During the spring semester, we worked on data collection and results, discussion and conclusion sections (in that order). Yes, work in sections is very detailed, but during the spring semester it was nice to know that I have already written half of my dissertation and needed to finish writing it.
7. EDITING, EDITING + MORE EDITING. I have mentioned earlier that writing your dissertation will include of A LOT of drafts. I had at least 30 (I’m not joking). When finishing writing a draft take a break before editing your writing. You will constantly be thinking of ways to improve your paragraphs and arguments, so don’t worry about it not being perfect the first time around. For extra writing help, check out THIS and THIS blog post.
8. PROPOSAL. Don’t worry too much about it, as by now you’re the expert on your topic, so make a strong power point and slay the presentation. I made sure I had a good visual presentation (it was important for my topic), but I had to fit a lot of information in about 7 minutes (and it felt impossible). So I talked very fast and this was the only critique that I received from most of the professors in my department. Proposals are great for receiving comments about your dissertation and any improvements you can make regarding methods, etc. So think of it as a helpful step for you to better your dissertation to receive a good final grade.
9. DATA COLLECTION. If you need to collect and analyze data, make sure you dedicate enough time for it! I needed to have 90 participants in my study and I struggled to collect data, because my campus consisted of only a couple hundred students. I ended up collecting data for a month, so make sure you have that extra time in case you will need it. Same goes for statisical analyses if you need to do them. For stats, a great resource is Laerd Statistics.
10. DEFENSE. This is the most important step regarding your dissertation, so stay consistent for ultimate success. I’m not going to pretend that I was not nervous before my defense, we ALL were, but we could not really change anything about it. We just had to do it and knowing that other students have survived it made me feel better. I also listened to A LOT of Beyonce to calm my nerves beforehand, as I was the first one to present. Safe to say that my presentation was a horror story, because the professors on my judging pannel did not understand my topic, no matter how slowly and clearly I tried to explain everything (yeah, I don’t really want to talk about it)... So I genuinely thought I was DONE. My potential career as a researcher was ruined... However, I still ended up getting one of the highest grades for my year and this was all in the past, so now I feel much better about my first dissertation experience. But I have to admit that on the day I was not happy about it AT ALL. I should also mention that I was given the opportunity to present my research at an academic conference and I did really well there + other professors and professionals understood my topic well, so I did feel confident going into my defense and it ended up being a disaster 😂😂😂
11. IT’S HARD. This is a bonus warning that the whole dissertation writing process is very lonely and stressful. Yes, your peers will be writing their dissertations as well, but we like to internalize the struggles and not care about our friends as much, even if we are all going through the same thing. People will also have different attitudes about writing their dissertations, as I have mentioned in the disclaimer, so stay focused on your work and DO NOT COMPARE YOURSELF TO OTHERS. Think of it as an adventure and a learning experience! I definitely learned a lot about what it is like to write a full research project and present it to other academics and learned that it is something I would like to continue doing in the future.😊 ALSO let’s not ignore how stressful last year was for me personally, so I would recommend scheduling a holiday after your dissertation defense/graduation, so that you have something nice to look forward to!
I hope these tips help some of you out! I wish you ALL THE BEST if you’re writing your dissertation/thesis this year! If I did it, you CAN TOO! Just believe + trust yourself!
She’s Not There Part 2
THIS IS A SMALL UPDATE!  PLEASE READ MY NOTE.
Summary:  After returning to the States you struggle to understand Arthur’s book as much as he struggles to let you go.
A/N: I got more requests for small updates than a large one.  Goal is to have this done by Friday! Also, this was for a challenge I signed up for and then the host left tumblr because of hate.  I miss her, and please be nice to each other. This is based on The Zombie’s She’s Not There
Warnings:  Swearing? Bad thoughts?  (No smut!) I did make some fan fiction jokes, but they’re meant to be poking fun.
Characters:  Reader and Ketch
Words: 2800
To say the book was weird would be an understatement.  You never read Chuck Shurley before, but you thought his work had more…plot.  The thing read like a user manual or a report.  That didn’t mean it was bad though, in fact once you were done with the first read you started again.
It had to have been a companion, for the super fans.  But you didn’t think those novels were popular enough, or had super fans.  There was no way the suave Brit was running around in his free time going to fan conventions, he was way too uptight for that sort of thing.
When you landed your car was at the airport, all your possessions still in your trunk.  You drove straight to a cheap motel and got a room for the week. The way back meant flying against the time change and it was actually earlier in the day than it had been when you left, but sun-up or not you were exhausted.
Once you were in your room you plopped down on the bed.  You reached into the bag on the floor and pulled out Arthur’s book. Right now you were regretting not getting a way to contact the man.  You wanted to tease him about his super fan status and a smile came to your face imagining his response.
“A man needs a hobby darling.” You tried your best British accent. “Or: I said I worked with monsters.”
The smile fell off your face and you opened the book again.  No.  He couldn’t have been literal, besides, monsters didn’t exist.  You rolled your eyes, certain now that you were much to tired to think clearly.  You wondered what the British man was doing at the moment, your heart hurting at the thought of ditching him the way you had.
Of course it was for the best. He was getting too attached, and who knows? Maybe you would have caved and made a mistake by staying in England with a complete stranger?  America was where you belonged and you were far to level headed to change your entire life for a man.
The memory of his tongue on yours, his hands running up your sides brought the smile back to your face as you drifted off to a sleep, clutching the only memento of the man who gave you one of the best week’s of your life.
~~~
It was almost ten o’clock on a Sunday, long quitting time, but Ketch had no plans on leaving as he continued to flip through the photos of every single American hunter.  There had to be some connection to his Amy. Some would call him an obsessive man, but he saw it more as drive.
“What are you doing here?” Mick walked into the library with a book in hand.
“Research.” Ketch did not look up from the computer.
“I’ve said it before, but don’t bother trying to find her.” Mick put away his book and went to the table Ketch was at. “The girl is a ghost.” “Except for she isn’t.”  Another female who looked nothing like Amy was on the screen. He was long passed the point of searching for her.  Now he was looking for parents, or a siblings, or even a cousin.  Anyone that shared a feature was being added to a list.
“It’s been three months.” Mick looked concerned. “We’ve tried every angle.  She’s not there.”
Arthur glared at Mick. Right now he wanted to hate his colleague, but the man had  assisted in the search.   “With out a town or a state it’s impossible.”  Mick shook his head. “There’s no mention of her on any research involving hunters. Until Dr. Hess wants to invade America our hands are tied.”
“She has let them run rampant over there.  It will happen soon.” Ketch knew Mick agreed.
“The country has over thirty million people. Even when that happens how likely are you to find your Amy?” Mick raised his eyes brows. “There are plenty of birds over here.  We could go that pub you like near your place, maybe one will wander in.”
Ketch clenched his fist. Of course Mick had no clue that was how he met his Amy, but the suggestion was rubbing salt in his wounds.  Maybe Mick was on to something though.  Three months was the longest Ketch had been celibate since losing his virginity.  It might be nice to find some release.
Of course his mind wet to Amy and who she may have fucked over the past three months.  A rage ignited inside him at the idea of anyone touching her.  He would rip them to shreds with bare hands and make her pay for letting another person near what belonged to him.  Amy was his possession, she may have stole herself away but that did not relinquish his ownership.  Of course any punishment she received would only happen if Ketch could control his anger upon seeing her again.  Sometimes he fantasized about squeezing her beautiful neck until the life vanished from her eyes.  She deserved it for what she was putting him through.
“Are you alright mate?” Mick broke his concentration.
“Let’s get that drink.” Ketch flipped off the computer and stood up to his colleague’s surprise. “Not that pub though. I want to head to the tourist area. One of those clubs has to be open.”
Mick nodded and turned to leave the room.  Ketch followed behind him.  He would never give up.  She had taken something more important than the book, something Ketch hadn’t meant to hand out to her.  His heart.  The first woman to ever do so, and what did she do with such a precious gift? Destroyed it.  Oh she would pay, one way or another, she would get what was coming to her.  Ketch would never let her get away with such disrespect.
~~~
The economy sucked and that meant ending up in a crappy job that had nothing to do with your major.  The plus side of not having a family and living out of motel rooms meant it was easy to pack up and leave.  And so you did, cruising across America until you found another crappy job you got sick of.
You arrived in Denver and took as an assistant manager doing retail.  It was stupid, your first day you knew it would be like every other job you worked the past six months.  You gave it six weeks tops before you left the store.  There was an urge inside you to do something that mattered, but you couldn’t figure out what that was yet
In your free time you read every Supernatural book you could get your hands on.  There was no Amazon prime available for those bad boys though.  You were right, they were not that popular which meant checking out used book shops, eBay, and the occasional comic book shop.  Of course your newest occupation was right next to one of those and, lucky for you, they were open late.
The bell to the store rang when you pushed open the door.  You made a bee line to the clerk behind the desk.
“Hi.” You gave him your biggest smile. “Do you carry any Supernatural books?  And not just books about the Supernatural, but a specific series called Supernatural by…”
“Chuck Shurley!”  The man said the name at the same time as you.
“You’ve heard of them before?”  Your heart about jumped out of your chest. In six months this was your first conversation with another fan.
“Heard of them?  I go to the convention every year! I cosplay Sam.”  He was your height, much to short for the younger Winchester. On top of that his hair was too long, and he lacked the muscular build of Sam.
You shook your head, that didn’t matter.
“Convention?” You didn’t know one existed.
“We like to keep it small.” The man tucked his shoulder length hair behind his ear. “We don’t want it to turn into a Walker-Stalker con.  Only true fans allowed.  It’s by invitation only, happens every fall.  If you’re interested I could get you on the list. You would make a killer Tamara, or maybe a Jo.  What about one of the Rubys?  Yeah! Ruby! She’s a demon and can look like anyone.  Or you could dress as a little girl and be Lilith!”
“Right.”  You smiled and gave a nod, pretty sure that not many women attended this thing. “Maybe next year.”
“Don’t have any in stock.”  The man shook his head. “And if I did, I would probably keep them.”
“So you’re an expert?” You were almost giddy.
“Is Bella the worst thing to come out of Great Britain?”  The man puffed his chest out.
Again, you didn’t know how to answer, since that character had yet to appear in the few copies you’d obtained.
“I’m a newbie to these books, but it seems like there are an awful lot of characters. Do you know if a guide exists? Like a companion book?”  You batted your eyelashes.
“There is a crappy wiki, but it’s run by this guy Lane.  He thinks that he is the perfect Sam.”  The man raised his fist. “But he has short black hair!  How can Sam have short hair?  Fucking Lane.  The site is a piece of shit too.  He thinks that Lucifer is a blond. I keep saying that’s not what he looks like, it’s just a vessel, but every time I make the edit Lane changes it back. I shouldn’t bother with it.  Maybe I should make my own….”
Realizing that the guy was going to drone on and on forever you reached into your bag.  Looking around the store like you had some piece of treasure you pulled out Arthur’s book.
“So you’ve never seen this before?”  You were hesitant to hand it over, but wanted answers and this was as good as you were going to get without scanning the thing and putting it online.
“No.” The man examined the fancy binding before opening it up.  “Someone put a lot of time into this.”
You tapped your fingers on the counter,  not enjoying how long the man held your book for.  In fact you found yourself starring at his hands, unsure how long it had been since he washed them.  That was Arthur’s book.  Nobody else should be touching it.  You went to grab it back, but stopped yourself.  You were sounding like a crazy person.
“Someone took a lot of time to make this.” He looked up and turned the book around towards you. “But these pictures of Sam and Dean are ridiculous.  Sam isn’t that tall.  And they’re hunters, not models.  I’ll still throw you a bone, how about two hundred for it?”
“Excuse me?”  You wouldn’t part with the book for a million.
“Fine, you called my bluff.  Five hundred.” The man went blank faced.
“It’s not for sale.”  You shook your head. “I just wanted to know if you had seen a copy before.”
“This isn’t a copy.”  The man leaned forward and flipped to the front. “There’s no source information.”
You had noticed that before.  He flipped to a random page and ran his fingers down.
“This ink is high quality.  Not what would be used on a Supernatural paperback.”  He went to the end. “This stuff about a bunker?  It’s not in the books.  To me, this is high quality fan fiction.”
He ran his fingertips down the page.
“And from a quick scan it contains no smut.”  He shut the book and set it on the counter. “A very rare find.  Did you make this?  Because if you want to mass produce this, we can go 50/50. I’ll make copies and distribute through my channels.  We could sell them for a thousand a pop.”
You picked up the book, wanting it out of the man’s grasp.  He tensed and went for it.
“Like I said, it’s not for sale.”  You put the book back in your bag and clutched it to your side, happy you trusted your initial instinct not to scan the pages and put them online.
The last thing on your mind was the money as you started out the store.
“Wait!” The man jumped the counter.
You didn’t pause as you went outside.
“I’ll pay you a thousand just to read it.”  He followed you into the parking lot.
“Sorry no.”  You sped walked to your car, holding your back in front of you.
“I will give you a copy of every book in the series just to read it.”  He was right behind you.
You did not turn around.  Arthur’s voice running over and over in your head. I work with monsters.  The bookshelf in his apartment, filled with these bound books that looked the same.  It didn’t make any sense.
“Please Miss.” He stopped following you. “I am sorry I tried to low ball you.  That thing is priceless. Just let me read the part about the bunker.”
You didn’t respond as you kept walking to your car.  His footsteps picked up again and you took off sprinting.  There was enough distance between the two of you for you to dive into your front seat and hit the lock button before he made it to the window.
“Ten thousand dollars.  I will mortgage my house.”  The man was on the other side of the glass.
You didn’t look at him as you turned over the engine and sped out of the parking lot.  In the rear view window you saw the look of pure frustration on his face.  It shook you to your core.  If he was that frantic about it, that meant one thing.  He was asking himself the same question you were.  Was it real?
The idea had been eating away at you for some time.  To the point you were debating on buying a plane ticket back to England, ready to sit in that damn pub every night until Arthur showed up.  If a credit card company would have approved you you would have by now. Arthur.  Even thinking his name made your heart ache.
It had been six months since you left England, and not a day went by you weren’t thinking about the man.  Were you too harsh?  Did you not realize what was in front of you, too distracted by logic to open your heart to the possibility that what you had was real?
The memory of him filling you up, your wrists in his hand as he rocked inside of you.  So many nights you had tried to find him online.  Even making a Facebook page with a whopping 23 friends.  All you had to go on was Arthur in London.  How could you not think to ask his last name?  Imagining the primal look in his eyes made you moan out loud in your car.  If you didn’t have the resources to get back to him you had to do the next best thing.
Denver was another bust.  You were going to head back to the motel to grab your stuff, but you wouldn’t be staying the night there.  You were fighting the inevitable.  If you couldn’t get to Arthur to answer your questions you were going to the next best place. Lebanon Kansas.  Maybe the bunker would be there or maybe you would find nothing and get some closure as to whether Arthur’s world was real or not.
If Sam and Dean Winchester existed maybe they knew how to get in contact with Arthur.  But was that what you wanted?  Arthur back?  His smiling face at the pub your final night in London flashed in front of your eyes.  He was a man of many sides, maybe you had given up on him too soon.
Live Mind Blog #3
Posted: 03/01/2017
Tumblr media
Welcome!
     Thank you so much for your interest in the Live Mind blog! I’m actually surprised to be here. Moment of truth: this edition almost did NOT happen.
     Unfortunately, I was having dealings with every creator’s nemesis, “discouragement”. I simply couldn’t bring myself to believe that continuing what I’ve started was necessary. For a brief period of time, my heart wasn’t in it. I realized a change was needed in order to continue.
     I went back to some of the feedback I’ve received so far on the blog, and found it all positive! For days, I kept asking myself: “What do you really want to do?” There was already an answer to that question. Then I asked myself: “Why haven’t I started yet?” There was no answer.
     One morning, during a desperate search for inspiration, I concluded that I was allowing too many things distract me. Things that weren’t contributing to my goals, both in creativity and life-wise. I decided to separate myself from everything that has been hindering my progression and to immediately start working on all the ideas sitting in my head.
     That morning is the reason this edition exists. Redirecting my focus towards everything that motivates me was exactly what I needed to do. I had to push forward.
Paige, Music Blogger
     Paige is a 24 year-old music blogger from Toronto, Canada. Inspired by her love for discovering new music and bands, she started her own blog online known as Paige Backstage.
Tumblr media
     Besides her editorial skills, Paige has had the opportunity to interview many artists in her local music scene, and has continued to grow further her career on the internet and in real life. What I admire most about Paige is that she shot for the stars and has been successful in doing exactly what she wants to do.
     “I worked for a record label and was constantly disappointed by how my voice was ignored, despite me being the exact demographic of who they were trying to sell music to. I decided that the only way I'd be heard was to create my own space on the internet and to do it my own way...so I did.”
     ~ Paige
     Some of Paige’s inspirations include Hayley Williams (front woman for the band Paramore), Qcknd, and Gwen Stefani, but most of her inspiration comes from her friends. “I've surrounded myself with a really cool group of people that all work in creative industries, and bouncing ideas off each other usually sparks some unrelated idea in me,” states Paige.
Tumblr media
     Paige also started another blog called At The Barricade. If you love music news about your favorite bands, as well as a great aesthetic, you’d love this blog!
     There’s so much I could say about Paige and her career. It’s insane to think that this is just the start of it. She has so many future plans, including revamping her blog to grow along with her, making nifty gear, or promoting those who do. She would love to have her own music festival tour someday, but in the meantime, her main goal is to have a full-time career on the internet.
     At this rate, it’s almost guaranteed Paige will achieve all of those goals in the near future. She’s been one of my biggest inspirations for starting Live Mind, so please be sure to follow her progress on any of the following platforms:
“I want to make meaningful music that people can relate to. I want to make people feel something while listening to my music.“
     ~ Untraceable Sounds
     Untraceable Sounds, is a 17 year old Danish musician. She started her music project on November 4, 2015. She posted her first guitar cover on Youtube, soon after teaching herself guitar earlier that year. Untraceable Sounds started referring to the video clips she posted online in order to keep improving. She began by posting a cover of a song every few months, but early on, it became clear that her desire was to make her own songs instead.
     “I was writing many poems, and I wanted to transform them into songs, because I have always had a passion for music. But I played drums, and I didn’t feel like I was able to express myself as much through drums as I can with guitar. So as soon as my dad started learning guitar, I picked it up too,” she states. In only two years, she has made so much progress musically! She dedicates all her free time to writing and recording songs and is truly happy with what she’s been doing.
     Her favorite band is PVRIS, which happens to be one of her biggest inspirations. She also gets inspiration from various musicians, movies, poems, and the like. Anything that sparks a feeling inside inspires her.
Tumblr media
     Right now Untraceable Sounds is recording her upcoming EP. She wants to make the best music she has ever made with this EP, learning as much about recording, mixing and mastering songs as possible. Since she is a solo project, this is a bit challenging, but she continues to do her best to learn and become a better musician everyday. In the future, she would love to collaborate with many talented musicians. Regarding the EP, she’s planning to release it on Spotify, Apple Music, and more!
     The project Untraceable Sounds has only just begun, and with the efforts she’s already made, she will likely go far with it! After reading her story, I am beyond thrilled to have featured her in this blog. Please support this amazing project by following it on these platforms:
By: Anjali, Age: 14
     These unique pieces were created by Anjali. She’s a 9th grader with an interesting story:
     “I started actually hating art. I never had the patience for it and it always seemed too difficult and tedious to actually do. Sure, the end results were pretty, but it seemed like the time was not worth the effort. One day in 6th grade, we had this project: to combine two animals together. I decided to do an owl and mouse...and that was the first time I was truly interested in art.”
     ~Anjali
     In the 7th grade, Anjali moved to a new school district where her art stood out amongst the rest of the students. She spent all her lunch periods in the art room drawing and talking with the art teachers and was eventually accepted into Studio in Art. Her art has even been put up in local show cases!
     Since the beginning, she has grown so much in her art. I really admire her experimental mentality! I find that using art as an escape is one of the best ways to quietly express yourself freely and creatively. This is exactly what Anjali does and it’s obviously working out great. Her biggest inspiration is her sister, who is also very talented with art and constantly helps Anjali improve.           In the future, Anjali hopes to become an animator or video game designer and be a radio hostess for side work. “The joy that those two ideas gives me (as an animator dealing with art and radio hostess dealing with music) is overwhelming,” she says. What could be more fitting than that? Her story proves that trying new things can create an entirely different outlook on the future. Possibilities are truly endless!
     The above compilation was done by McKenna, an 18 year-old aspiring photographer from Arizona. Like most photographers, she started out by simply taking pictures with her phone. Eventually, she got a better camera so she could further her progress. She was placed in photography class last year and her teacher inspired her to take photography more seriously.
     McKenna enjoys taking pictures of whatever she likes, including nature and sunsets, as well as pictures at concerts.
     “I'm really into the whole "alternative scene" and I go to a lot of pop punk shows. Elmakias (photographer) is a pretty big inspiration in the whole music-photography thing.”
     ~McKenna
     Right now, McKenna takes photos as a hobby, but in the future she would like to do photography in college. “I just really like going to concerts and I really like taking pictures so I'm combining all that together. I think it's cool that I have opportunities to do that,” she says. A little goes a long way, and it’ll be awesome to see her grow in photgraphy! You can follow more of her awesome work on Instagram and Tumblr.
Do It Now, Thank Me Later:
Tumblr media
         As mentioned in my sappy introduction, it is very common for creative minds to get discouraged. It’s important to not give up when you hit low points in your ventures. Remember, every person or project you’ve looked up to has been discouraged along the way. You have to push forward.
Challenge #3: Eliminate distractions.
     In this day and age, it is nearly impossible not to be influenced by social media. However, this can be a good thing! Instead of allowing it to distract you from what you want to be doing, you can use it to inspire you. Unfollow pages that are not contributing to your creativity, and follow new pages that will continue to inspire you to bring your ideas to life! Force inspiration.
Feel free to tell me how it goes at [email protected]. Your story could be featured in an upcoming blog!
Get Inspired:
        For this edition, I decided to include some of my recent work. In early 2016, I purchased a camera in order to relaunch my YouTube channel. Recently, I decided to use video as a way to express my ideas more creatively. Rather than simply stating my thoughts on camera, I decided to show them. Facebook says no one flagged NZ mosque shooting livestream
LONDON — Facebook says none of the 200 or so people who watched live video of the New Zealand mosque shooting flagged it to moderators, underlining the challenge tech companies face in policing violent or disturbing content in real time.
The social media giant released new details about its response to the video in a blog post. It said the gunman’s live 17-minute broadcast was viewed fewer than 200 times and the first user report didn’t come in until 12 minutes after it ended. Fifty people were killed at two mosques in Christchurch.
Facebook removed the video “within minutes”‘ of being notified by police, said Chris Sonderby, Facebook’s deputy general counsel.
“No users reported the video during the live broadcast,” and it was watched about 4,000 times in total before being taken down, Sonderby said. “We continue to work around the clock to prevent this content from appearing on our site, using a combination of technology and people.”
Facebook has previously said that in the first 24 hours after the massacre, it removed 1.5 million videos of the attacks, “of which over 1.2 million were blocked at upload,” implying 300,000 copies successfully made it on to the site before being taken down.
The video’s rapid spread online puts renewed pressure on Facebook and other social media sites such as YouTube and Twitter over their content moderation efforts. Many question why Facebook in particular wasn’t able to more quickly detect the video and take it down.
On Tuesday, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern expressed frustration that the footage remained online four days after the killings. She said she had received “some communication” from Facebook’s Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg on the issue. “It is horrendous and while they’ve given us those assurances, ultimately the responsibility does sit with them.”
Facebook uses artificial intelligence and machine learning to detect objectionable material, while at the same time relying on the public to flag up content that violates its standards. Those reports are then sent to human reviewers who decide what action to take, the company said in a video in November , which also outlined how it uses “computer vision” to detect 97 per cent of graphic violence before anyone reports it. However, it’s less clear how these systems apply to Facebook’s live streaming.
To report live video, a user must know to click on a small set of three grey dots on the right side of the post. When you click on “report live video,” you’re given a choice of objectionable content types to select from, including violence, bullying and harassment. You’re also told to contact law enforcement in your area if someone is in immediate danger.
Before the company was alerted to the video, a user on 8chan had already posted a link to copy of it on a file sharing site, Sonderby said. 8chan is a dark corner of the web where those disaffected by mainstream social media sites often post extremist, racist and violent views.
In another indication of the video’s spread by those intent on sharing it, the Global Internet Forum to Counter Terrorism, a group of global internet companies led by Facebook, YouTube, Microsoft and Twitter, said it added more than 800 different versions to a shared database used to block violent terrorist images and videos.
The group said it added “digital fingerprints” for visually distinct versions of the video to its database. The move came in response to attempts by internet users to share the video by editing or repackaging versions with different digital fingerprints to avoid detection.
“The incident highlights the importance of industry co-operation regarding the range of terrorists and violent extremists operating online,” said the group, which was formed in 2017 in response to official pressure to do more to fight online extremism.
In a series of tweets a day after the shootings , Facebook’s former chief security officer, Alex Stamos, laid out the challenge for tech companies as they raced to keep up with new versions of the video.
“Each time this happens, the companies have to spot it and create a new fingerprint,” said Stamos. “What you are seeing on the major platforms is the water leaking around thousands of fingers poked in a dam,” he said
Stamos estimated the big tech companies are blocking more than 99 per cent of the videos from being uploaded, “which is not enough to make it impossible to find.”
Learning Comments Our Global History Avoid playing exciting games in the garden before your puppy has toileted, as this is likely to distract them from the main purpose of going outside. If they want to come back inside straight away, or look confused, patiently walk up and down slowly to encourage them to move about and sniff the ground. Stay outside with your puppy until they have done their business at which point you can give gentle praise. Avoid leaving your puppy outside in the hope that they will eventually go to the toilet, as most puppies will not want to be left alone and will instead concentrate on getting back to you, rather than learning to go to the toilet outside. You might also miss the opportunity to praise your puppy if they do go, or if they don’t go, they may then be ‘caught short’ once back in the house! It’s hardly surprising many people have barking problems with their dogs, since most dogs have no idea whether barking is something good or bad. That’s because our reaction to his barking is confusing to the dog. In his eyes, when he barks, he is sometimes ignored, while at other times he is shouted at to stop, and then again he may be encouraged to bark if, for example, there’s a suspicious stranger nearby. A Woman's View: Amanda Orlando, Founder Of Everyday Allergen-Free
Welcome to a new series on Bev's Eye View! This series is called "A Woman's View", a little play on the tittle of my blog (sometimes, I think I am so clever...not). I love career profiles of women who are doing their thing and doing it well. I wanted to do this series as a way to motivate, inspire, and encourage women. Often times, these profiles are of people who have unattainable careers and unrealistic success. I wanted to profile women who are real, inspiring, and doing what they are passionate about! So, lets start with Amanda Orlando!
Name: Amanda Orlando
Age: 26
Current Job/Company: Founder, Everyday Allergen-Free. Associate Category Manager, Indigo Books & Music
Education & School: Human Geography degree from University of Toronto
You have a degree in Human Geography, what made you want to go into the book and publishing industry, along with being a food blogger? One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned since graduating is that your career journey is not linear. Despite having plans, it’s good to be flexible to opportunities that arise. I got a job at Scholastic after working for one of my professors doing research on American declining cities. I thought it would be temporary but I ended up really enjoying being part of the publishing industry (I’m a very avid reader). It also helped me figure out how to get my book (Allergen-Free Desserts to Delight Your Taste Buds: A Book for Parents and Kids) published which is one of my proudest accomplishments.
As for food blogging, that came about for a few reasons. I got a camera as a grad gift and enjoyed playing around with it. I had this goal that I was going to use the shit out of it [and]become awesome at photography. I had a Tumblr page for a couple years, just for fun. My photography was alright but it was just a hobby at that point. Then I got a book contract and I needed to provide a photography portfolio. Suddenly I just kicked into gear and created this small portfolio of my best shots which they accepted. A few months before my book released I had an anaphylactic reaction to improperly labelled bread that contained dairy. I decided it was a sign and started an actual WordPress blog to write about my experiences and share recipes and photos. This grew over the year (2015) and then in June 2016 I decided to close that blog and re-brand as Everyday Allergen-Free with the help of my close friend Joella. We wanted to create a site that inspires confidence in teens and adults living with food allergies. I’m so happy with this decision.
  What is it about publishing and food blogging that you like? Food blogging: I’ve always been very creative and I get really into things. I can never sit still and I’m very passionate. Photography, writing, and just “creating” in general are things I could do literally all day, every day. It keeps my mind active but also keeps me busy physically. I could start working on an article or a shoot at 7am and still be perfecting it at midnight and that’s totally cool with me. I also enjoy sharing my experiences with others who are in the same situation as I am. I’m always challenging myself to do more, better.
Publishing: The curation aspect of my job is the most fun. I love knowing that the books I choose will be enjoyed by kids and will bring them joy.
You have an amazing website, what are the steps you took to start your site and why did you want to start your site? The first step I took was to say – I want this, I’m doing it immediately. You have to just commit. It helps to make yourself feel a sense of urgency – if you don’t do this, someone else will. I bought the domain, Jo and I researched the best hosting platform to use (Squarespace), and then worked on the layout behind the scenes. From there we started generating content immediately and booking collaborations well into the future. Within a week the site was live and active, and we were reaching out to brands and bloggers that we wanted to work with.
Where did you get the idea for your site from? I started looking for sites about adults/teens dealing with severe allergies back in early 2015 when I had that terrible reaction. But my findings came up short. Instead I began following a lot of allergy mom blogs because I felt the need to be part of a community; I needed inspiration. And then it sort of dawned on me that I had been managing my allergies my whole life and that I actually had a lot of experiences to share.
 What were some initial challenges you faced when launching your site? Time! Our main constraint is that we never have enough time to do everything we want to do. We are really good about scheduling though so we manage to make it all fit. Our other challenge is geography. We don’t have an office and Jo and I live in different areas of the city so travel time has to be accounted for. It would be great if we had twice as much time and lived across the hall from each other haha!
What does a typical day look like for you as a blogger and an associate category manager? My day job is 9 – 5-ish (often later) and does involve some travel. I keep a notebook open and as my blog ideas come to me throughout the day I write every one of them down. EAF is my second full time job and I work at it every night. I do a lot of pre-planning before every shoot; curating the cookbook and recipes, buying ingredients, cleaning, buying props if needed, washing/chopping/dicing so everything looks photo-ready.
On EAF we generally do one collaboration or cookbook review (with a guest in the kitchen) once a week, usually on Thursdays. When I get home from my day job I have to do all the prep I just mentioned, as well as booking future collaborations, long-term strategizing, liaising with companies/bloggers over email, tweaking the site, sharing posts on Twitter and Facebook, and Jo and I spend a lot of time brainstorming.
The actual photo shoot usually takes up the whole night and then I have about an hour of tidy-up after. The next day I’ll do the photo editing which generally takes a couple hours, and then writing the piece which takes a couple hours. I like to post more than once a week so I also squeeze in an editorial post or recipe post mid-week. These could take an hour or ten – completely dependent on the topic and format. This often involves some recipe testing and planning. Jo and I try to go to networking or blogging events to stay in the know. I also do some freelance writing/contributions to other sites and just finished working with my new agent on a proposal for a second book.
I usually wrap all this up by 12:30/1am so I can get a decent sleep. And of course I regularly follow my favorite allergy mom blogs!
What are the biggest challenges you face as a food blogger and an associate category manager? I hate to sound like a broken record, but time is always the biggest challenge. There isn’t enough of it.
  What has been the best moment of your career so far? My book launch party was probably the most exciting and satisfying night for me. That feeling made me raise the bar in terms of my aspirations. It was also amazing to see my first contribution to the Huffington Post Blog do so well. I wrote honestly about my own personal experiences and it got over 2000 likes/shares/comments. It affirmed that I was on the right path.
http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/amanda-orlando/allergies_b_9703216.html
What are the perks of your jobs?
In my day job I get to do some travel which is awesome. Visiting places that are new to me, like Frankfurt for example, also gives me great material to write about. I’m also always surrounded by books which is a dream come true for any book lover. Blogging is all perk for me. I love every aspect of it, especially meeting amazing new people and collaborating creatively.
You have a strong social media game, what are your tips for social media?
Our Insta account is really Jo’s domain but I think I still have some wisdom to share. Pick which social channels you like best and focus on those. There are so many sharing platforms and it’s impossible to make use of them all. Post often and at the times you get most traffic. Try to stay on brand! This may mean you have to open a second Instagram account for personal use, like Jo and I did. It may be tempting to share that family photo from your grandmother’s birthday but it might not be of interest to followers of your blog.
 How do you stay motivated and inspired doing what you do?
Honestly I’m always trying to one-up myself. Every time I finish a post I think about how I can do it better the next time, or what I can add to the site to make it more appealing. Comments or interactions are also motivating because you get to directly hear what people think of your content or how it’s impacting their life. I’m motivated by the fact that I want to do my absolute best all the time. Having a partner means you can feed off each other’s excitement.
Which other woman working in your field do you look up to?
She’s not in my field, but I really look up to Mindy Kaling as a creative inspiration. She’s hilarious, she created the career she wanted, and she’s so confident. That to me is everything I could hope to achieve.
What advice would you give someone who wants to do what you're doing?
Make the decision and then commit; don’t let yourself put it off.
