ok more singing

fuck it. i was singing in the previous post and i really like singing! i come from a vocalist background but i've had issues feeling comfortable with my tenor/alto range. i'm transfem (hi i'm the transgender tag) and was afraid of submitting to a competition bc a "real girl isn't singing". i literally moved out of texas because of the state of things there. so i shelved it in 2023, didn't submit to multiverse vistas, and very cautiously picked it up in 2024. so when i revisited everything all at once, i comm'd moon jelly. while i could maybe hit the notes with a bit of straining, her voice is more comfortably in the range of herta's voice. but i wanted to share an older version of eaao where i'm singing. aeonsim26/27 feels more intimate and i had always wanted to publish this song with my voice. but i think moon jelly still did a great job at helping the song shape up as far as cadence (i gave it a very odd cadence on purpose but i didn't fit as well in later versions) and giving body to the lyrics. i didn't like her version at first but genuinely her work added so much in the late drafting phase that i changed the key last minute and just went to town having fun with the instrumental. but yeah here's a few from the many revisions as i won't be able to look at them too closely in the video i'm making.

the original, the classic with me. yes, there was a cut drop! the original motif was started out of the piano after the drop.

taking that motif, this is part of the rework/revisit from 2024. i absolutely adore this version. you can see the song starting to shape up and it's probably my favorite. it feels very pretty patterns influenced towards the end. i was listening to a lot of pretty patterns at the time and he's a general influence on my work, so that would make sense. awesome artist, who also submitted to the competition with "70047" and got (third place user vote?). it was kinda crazy hearing he was submitting an entry when i was in my last week of work on this. go check out the entry!

second? key change from the original. this one has me singing again. didn't spend a ton of time with tuning because i was going for a very loose feel and had to hurry and believe it or not i wrote the majority of the lyrics on my phone in 20 min before bed after agreeing with mj on a comm price. i don't get how my brain works!

first presentable demo with moon jelly as the featured vocalist. this is just a bit after i started laying out her takes. i unfortunately ran out of time on the competition and wasn't able to rework her takes into something more clean with less distortion. so the vocals are basically an mp3! there was some miscommunication and life stuff and i still feel really bad about that! but i think she couldn't care less in the end. idk. i'm awkward and particular about my artistic vision. qwq

the final key change before the competition version. i think i'd call this a bit of a radio edit. i forgot to unmute the metronome track ugg. i love how mellow it is, but i ultimately wanted to go for a higher energy for the competition.

but yeah it was a lot of fun working on this and i hope to make other cool story projects and especially ones where i sing! i may revisit this song at another point to make some additional versions, but other than my video breaking down the prod, i will try and not make this song the only thing i talk about. final song link for anyone who may have come from the tags instead of my following.

No no ok I’m just messing around, but I will try to walk you through my whole process! 😅 I figure you might not be the only one interested so, what the hell. Prepare for rambling, sorry in advance.

obligatory disclaimer that there is no one way to make stimboards, you don’t have to follow my process, I might put too much effort into it or less effort than someone else does, stimboards are just for fun!!! make em’ however you want! These are just tips/how my brain works.

first of all: picking your themes!!

Surprise: They can be anything!!! And heck, a lot of stimboard themes are just ‘purple cleancore’ or ‘food in pink and blue’, and those are pretty self explanatory. But a lot of the boards I happen to make are themed around characters, and it can be a little tricky to pick your themes!

First of all, I would recommend picking a color palette to try and stick to. Let’s pretend I’m making a Loki stimboard so I’ll probably go with green, gold and black.

You can chose any themes to go with those colors!! Like I could do a Loki stimboard with themes of lovecore and soft things or whatever. But if I’m not going off of anything specific, I usually try really hard to pick some cool themes to match the character. (Of course, you don’t need to do this,, it’s just for me I think it’s a lot cooler to have gifs that fit the character/subject rather than just random slime and stuff). So like, idk, maybe for Loki I want knives, snakes, fancy stuff, all that jazz! But again, it doesn’t matter too much, I just like to isolate those things!

Then you can just search for all your gifs and save them 😌 I usually try to dive pretty deep and try plenty of searches until I get a nice collection to chose from. (But then again I get overwhelmed by that sometimes, lmao). Important: please pretty please find your sources directly via tumblr, and try your very best to locate the original gifset or at least check that the links on a stim board actually lead back to the og creator! Google and Pinterest can be very unreliable places to find stims with actual sources - you have a whole organized system of blogs to search from right here. And please save your sources as you are looking - I save them right to my drafts, but you can save them anywhere you want as long as you keep ‘em.

And yeah, it’s really not that complicated but I’m extra so that’s how I go about it 😅

second: putting the darn thing together

Super simple!! The only hard part sometimes can be picking what gifs you want to include (I definitely struggle sometimes, lol. Nine gifs can be so limiting 😭 damn you tumblr!)

Hot Tip™️: ✨pretty arrangements✨

A big thing you might notice is that, in my opinion at least!! Stimboards tend to look a lot nicer if you organize them in a satisfying, even way! Of course you don’t have to do this, just throwing that out there again - but I think it makes a more out-together looking board.

Usually, I’ll kind of group certain gifs together based on color, theme, kind of stim, ect, and then try to arrange the board so that it’s ‘even’ and looks nice to me.

Some examples of what I mean (using colors to show different themes):

Again, not necessary, but a personal preference!

Also important detail I almost forgot to mention: Another thing that I just think makes everything look way nicer.. Try your best to make sure all your gifs are square so you don’t have like, awkward skinny rectangles in there. You can use a website like ezgif.com or something similar to crop gifs and edit them in other ways!

And that’s about it!!

Mirio: Kickin this part off with something nice and happy. This song starts with 'today I feel like running naked thought the streets' and I think that's very funny given his quirk misshapes. Anyway, he only wants to see people smile and thats the main reason this song is perfect and it's very up beat.

Tamaki: A song about anxiety for an anxious boy. But it's kinda more than that. This song is quite upbeat, by a popular band and an album with the most popular songs they've done yet not a lot of people know. You'd know it's them if you heard it but wouldn't name it off the top of your head for them. Idk, I over thought this one a lot

Nejire ⭐: It's so pumped up and positive, I can totally see her singing this just in general but also to cheer up Tamaki and it kinda sounds like her. She's definitely a Mario girl.

Shinso: Completely shifting the tone, we have a jazzy song that is another huge reason I started this playlist. It's litrally him, there is no other song possible for him! Also, The musical video is amazing, please watch it it needs all the love in the world.

Aizawa: Another anxiety ridden man mean another AJR song, I don't make the rules. Yes I do but this song reminded me of young Aizawa, thinking he was just going to mean nothing and 'Can we skip to the good part?' being now with Eri and Class 1A and not the current Manga cos I choose this song ages before hell set lose

Present Mic: This is his go to karaoke song n you can't say anything against it. 'Present Mic and Midnight bitch'

Midnight: Is sexy, would also be a karaoke song for her and feels like she's fightin' with My lady.

All might: He is here guys, did you know that?

Sir Nighteye: Okay this is a little ship-sided and like the Aizawa choice, more of the younger character feel, but I feel like when All might left, he wished his quirk could do more than just see the future and past. He would totally wish he could fix the relationship they had and platonic or romantic, that bond was close and I don't think either one turely let it rest.

Ingenium💙: Tensei, my beloved. He's all about that strong team work and honestly, i don't think this is his music taste but I could see this playing over the chase pannles with the team or just the team in general working and helping eachother.

Wild wild pussycats: Haha get it? Pussycat dolls? Yeah that was the only reason for this to start... BUT It's an old song that was popular when I was like 3 and saying that makes ppl feel old so they Ignore it much like the girls do and I think it's a nice fit. They seem like the type to have been very flashy, not camera shy, wanting all the hype in the prime and the "you just might get it" feels like Tiger mid transition not liking spotlight and later them chillin' out in the mountains.

Fatgum: He's big, beautiful and would love a big girl so like what else can I say here? Man would sing it so much, Kiri showed him it and Tamaki gets shy when they just suddenly burst into song patrolling the streets.

Best Jeanist: No one actually wants to be him and some people would say this is how he handles hate but I think he genuinely believes all haters are jealous of him.

Endeavour: I hate all the songs ppl put for him because it's always the weirdest songs. It was hard to chose a good one but this has a lot of key Enji words like 'Got my legacy set in motion' and the phase 'the bigger they are, the harder that fall' reminds me of the public's response to him

Hawks: Kay so this one was an old choice back in S4 and The start of the manga arc I won't name to keep it spoiler free but i don't want to change it. He didn't really have much choice in things he does so it kinda feels like he's venting to someone. I just think it fits his vibe too.

gotham archives: batman’s writing process

Anon on CC asked: Hello! Your outlines are so pretty!! Can I ask how you plan them / your process, and do you have the outline for heretic? Thank you!!

hi anon! thank you for your compliment! the sacramental outline is pretty organised but most of my first outlines look more like the petersburg one, i start with a trusty pen and  then make more notes with different ink the more i think about things.

okay, so my beta, @fyolette​ plays an INTEGRAL, indispensable role in my planning process. incidentally heretic is the first piece she worked on unofficially with me (the first official one we worked on from start to finish was movers and shakers), i.e. i had a (MISERABLE) draft written and then she helped me put it together.

the process depends on what form i have the original idea in. i almost never get an idea in its entirety, a story doesn’t come into my head in a start-to-finish resolution form. my stories are dynamic and character-driven, i.e. i know that X and Y will have Z dramatic moment, at some point X is going to Cry On A Rooftop, and i want Y to learn W important lesson. what concrete, logical sequence of events leads to this? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ (though to be fair i sometimes do have more of an idea than this.)

i also get a lot of thematic ideas — you’ll hear me saying shit like “okay so i want them to be petty criminals” or “i want them to be bakers” or “okay but get this, PHOTOGRAPHERS” (wow teesta that’s new and totally not something that you’ve written in 4 different variations already). most importantly, i link music and poetry to fics. i can’t write a significant story without an epigraph and a playlist, whether i include them in the final post or not.

what this means is i basically take a bunch of knicknacks to ksenya (which she calls sparkly buttons) which can consist of songs, moodboards, character profiles, key incidents, etcetera, and then we arrange those into a comprehensible plot. in the 1.5 years that we’ve been working together, i’ve gotten a little better at outlining, so now sometimes i can provide a complete list of scenes to her (arranged even! this isn’t sarcasm, it’s genuinely progress for me!) and then she helps me fill in plot holes and rearrange bumpy progressions.

since i’m not one to make changes to my draft unless there’s a dramatic problem, ksenya and i both favour outlining the story thoroughly. it cuts out 80% of the editing labour. and i’m a shitty, shitty plotter, but i’m a great writer; there’s not much to complain about in post-processing.

for me, the star of the story is emotional progress, for which the plot is a framework. (hence i always admire writers who have amazing, intelligent plots!) so i almost never know HOW a character got to a certain point, but i know where he started from and where he is now, and where he has to go. and (very important) The Friends He Made Along The Way.

there you have it anon! the outlining/plotting is actually the biggest and worst part of the writing process for me, after which it’s pretty much smooth sailing provided i have the time and energy to write. well except for this year where i have rushed headlong into a writer’s block, but u know. life just b like that sometimes.

i thought i’d say a word about the physical outlines themselves since you asked for the heretic one (linking that in the end!). so, i always start with a physical one because my brain doesn’t work unless i put a pen to paper, the physical act of writing helps me remember things. so my physical outlines are usually messy because i know i’ll be rewriting them or entering them into the laptop. so let’s say that my first outline looks like the petersburg one, and the physical rewrite looks like the sacramental one. like who are u. i’m u but neater.

but that was back in 2015, i’m With The Times now, i make spreadsheets if the plot is big enough! here is an example of the summer; blue spreadsheet, and another one for jaywalkers.

so this is basically what i do. the uh, fuck i forgot the term. um, data criterion? SKEJRGHSERG basically the columns i add depends on the plot. summer; blue had this undercurrent (lol) of taehyung’s illness so i added a column for that, another story i’m writing has so many simultaneous plots that i’ve actually just made a year-long calendar of it, what happens in jan/feb/march etc. it’s much easier to work with than a notebook where you can only add so many edits before it starts looking like utter shit. ON WHICH NOTE I PRESENT THE SHITTY OUTLINE OF HERETIC.

oh also, i occasionally use aeon timeline especially for simultaneous plotlines! i have one for that story i mentioned above, the one i made a calendar for. tbh idk why i didn’t just use aeon like i’m doing the same thing, rip. aeon timeline is super useful, it’s some 40 euros which is a little harsh on the wallet depending on ur budget but then you have it for life! u know what let me put down the apps that i use most frequently for writing though they’re super common and have been around in writing masterposts since 5000 BC.

so in order of usage in the process:

pinterest + my inspiration blog for moodboards (i used to use padlet but i…forgot about it)

spotify for playlists

skype because ksenya and i video call for sometimes 4 - 5 hours, plotting out something start to finish in the duration of one call itself while she drives down from one city to another, etc.

aeon timeline in combination with

google sheets, where i enter my plots; i share them with ksenya so she can see my progress

for the actual writing, it depends on my mood: i mostly sprint on mywriteclub, but i also have ommwriter, focuswriter, evernote, and what i call the Hell App— an app called writer’s block which doesn’t let you quit the window until you reach a time/word count goal.

my final draft goes into google docs so that ksenya can read over it

then i use the maps application on my phone to find the nearest bar in order to get shitfaced to celebrate the end of the hell fic.

all the links above are for mac, once u go mac u never go back etcetera. but i think they should have windows equivalents! everything apart from aeon timeline is free. apart from the booze. that’s not free. unless ur smart

so there you have it! i’m so sure i could’ve expressed and explained all of this in a more comprehensible manner but this has all the important points! if you want me to elaborate on something don’t hesitate to hit me up. i can fish up examples/screenshots for almost all of my published works, though i’ll keep my WIP shit under wraps for obvious reasons. but if someone would like me to thoroughly document the process of a new fic from start to finish when i get to it, i could possibly do that if there’s interest! again, just hit me up.
