no it totally makes sense. bioware dude lis almost always need some kind of rescuing/past hurt to overcome/etc. while bioware lady lis are just so competent they've never met a dude able to keep up, let alone make them actually fall for him

ACCURATE! thank you. I am sometimes unsure how much sense my brain makes when I try and interpret into language

(with the notable exception re: Kaidan actually being put together, which I suppose they consider a failed experiment as so few people love him as he deserves? IDEK. ME1 Kaidan is still my favorite.)

ugh yeah. Anders in DA2 is gross from both Doylist and Watsonian perspectives, imo, and most people either ignore them both, or only address one and then say YAY EVERYTHING IS FINE

/I really should stop ranting about him though, I do know a lot of people who love him. imo most of them love DAA Anders and just shove at DA2 until they get the guy they want back and ignore all the ableist underpinnings and also poor Justice got screwed

edit: which is not a bad thing, I ignore DAI for Sebastian’s sake and an awful lot of ME3 for Joker’s it’s just there’s a large subset of Anders’ people who won’t ADMIT that that is what they’re doing and that’s exhausting

our little corner of fandom is Good but part of the reason I never really got into DA2, I think, was in part because I couldn't find a fandom home at all

you know, I think that’s why I am so less invested in DAO than DA2? That is a very salient point ... the strength of fandom depends on the quality of one’s interactions, I mean, that is kind of the point, right?

heh. fanon is weird. brains are assholes. games only give you an outline of a character. all these things sometimes combine into an absolute horror show of racism / sexism / infantilisation / idolatry somehow all combined in one character. It would be fascinating to study if it wasn’t so icky.

because I got invested in everyone I follow flailing about them before I saw the show? Honestly, if I’d just seen the show and then found fandom, I would not ship them (at least not so far based on how far I’ve watched, which is honestly still like 30 episodes behind I think? I watch slowly, I mean, I skipped at least 10 and I’m still progressively further behind every week rather than anything close to catching up. I am considering giving up at this point, it’s vaguely isolating never being able to see what’s going on in the wider world, so to speak)

basically it’s @shadowedhills‘ fault because I love her very much and her love for them is contagious :)

sorry /zips mouth. there IS an unfortunate tendency of fandoms to be hyper critical of female characters, so.. yeah. that said... the thing that bugs me the most is that.. ok, if you were in actual relationship and then player character dies or something.. I could see some major pining... but I see people being possessive even when they chose not to pursue the romance. its kinda... creepy? don't you want them to be happy?

Nope, that kind of fandom isn’t at all about the LI being happy, but entirely about the LI making them happy and they have no right to go doing that for anyone else.
