not to get all emo about suki again but god, i can’t even imagine the amount of helplessness she felt when she was locked up at the boiling rock.
being a protector was all suki had known since she was 8 (when she joined the kyoshi warriors) and that’s the life she grew up. she fought to protect kyoshi island’s isolation, she fought to protect aang, katara, and sokka from zuko, she fought to protect her people, and she even fought to protect her own warriors as she is their leader and it’s her job.
so when azula, mai, and ty lee come in and make suki face the biggest dilemma of her life (flee with the other kyoshi warriors and get a ride on appa so they don’t have to face the wrath of azula or sacrifice their freedom and face the wrath of azula (when azula jumped over her katana, i think that was the moment suki knew she wasn’t going to win) and stick their ground to protect kyoshi island and help get appa out safely), she obviously picks the choice where she loses but the island she spent protecting for almost most of her life has the chance to be safe.
so then she loses against azula. she’s locked up at the highest security prison. she has no idea if her sacrifice paid off. she has no idea if her home is safe. she has no idea if team avatar is safe. she has no idea if appa found his way towards aang, let alone if team azula found appa first. and to top it all off, she’s separated from the rest of her warriors (and doesn’t even know if they’re okay). she can’t protect anyone, her home, her friends, her warriors, etc. all she can do is train to become a better fighter because if she were a better fighter, she wouldn’t be locked up, she would know if everything was alright, her warriors wouldn’t be locked up, she would still be able to protect, and everything would be okay.
she may have told sokka that she knew he would come but did she really?
