I started out on windows movie maker, and that helped me to get a basic idea of how to trim and edit before moving onto the slightly more complicated software. Sony Vegas does cost, I am sure there are people who found illegal downloads for free, but I paid for my software. Next is the files. I used to just torrent, but my files were in low quality and had to be converted so that they can be used in my editor. You can’t use mkv files. So mp4 is the way to go. If you’re not afraid to private message me I can send you links to the files I have, all are really good quality- if you want to make Supergirl videos, at least. You can test out one other settings that are available in Any Video Converter, but I are finding the default settings work good.

New to AE. Just wondering, when you have footage of what you want to manip, do you have to render each scene in Vegas and then import it into AE, or can you just copy and paste the clip into AE? You can directly import almost all video files directly into After Effects, but keep in mind that some files are not supported (EX: .mkv). But importing whole movies into AE will affect the softwares performance and speed so I do not recommend doing this. I personally work this way:

Open up an editing software (Note: AE is a digital composited program). ES: Premier Pro, Final Cut, Sony Vegas, Windows Movie Maker, etc.

Import the movies you know that you will be using and cut out the parts that you know/think you will want to edit with.

Collect and render all these parts into one big or several smaller files.

And now you can start working in AE. The reason why this is good is because 1. Organization, 2. All the footage has now been rendered to have the same FPS, and 3. It’s easier for your editing software to handle these 1-20 minute long videos instead of 10+ full HD movies. Keep in mind that you can technically do all of this in AE, but since AE is not designed for this kind of video editing it’s not worth the hassle.   You can read more of my tips for big editing projects here.
