SEMIHIATUS
Sept 17, 2024 — Hi. I’ve been gone awhile. Here’s why:
[ This story includes information related to cancer, terminal illness, injury, death, grief, depression, and suicide. Proceed with caution. ]
In late 2019 my Dad took the first steps to finding out why his left hip hurt so much. In early 2020 it was decided that he had severe arthritis and he was scheduled in to start physiotherapy to help manage his pain. Then the COVID lockdowns happened and his physiotherapy had to be postponed.
He was finally able to see a physiotherapist once the world started up again. They gave him an x-ray which showed a shadow in his groin. He was swiftly booked in for an appointment at the urology unit. They diagnosed him with stage 4 prostate cancer.
Fast forward to mid-2022. Dad had been having an injection of sorts to help keep his cancer under control. Even stage 4 prostate cancer can be controlled enough to give people up to 8 years longer — most people with prostate cancer simply die with the cancer, not from it. He had his left hip replaced.
By late 2022 he had developed an even worse pain in his right hip. He was whisked off to hospital for an x-ray. His right hip was shattered. The ball part of the joint had burst through the socket. The doctors said it looked like he’d either fallen from a building or been hit by a bus. He had been unable to walk more than a few steps for weeks, and was just sitting in his chair all the time. He remained in hospital for a month, getting poked and prodded and forgotten about. It was decided that they couldn’t do anything for his hip — another replacement wouldn’t work because there was no bone at all to attach the replacement onto.
He came home and was bed-bound with his right leg in traction to try to gently pull it back out of the shattered socket.
Early 2023. Dad’s pain became unmanageable and he was taken back into hospital for another month. He was diagnosed and undiagnosed then rediagnosed with various ailments. Eventually, after having to ask practically every member of staff there, we were told that Dad had a very rare bone cancer that was dissolving his bones. He no longer had any bone in his right hip, and it was spreading down his leg. They gave him a prognosis of mere weeks.
So now the poor man had primary stage 4 prostate cancer and primary terminal bone cancer.
September 21st 2023 at 11am, Dad died at home in his bed. The bone cancer had infected his blood and he died from sepsis.
My sisters are all married and live outside of the family home, but I still lived with Mum and Dad. Mum was devastated by losing Dad. I watched, helpless, as the grief consumed her. She developed agoraphobia. She had literally hundreds of photos of Dad hung up around the house — on the walls, the doors, the fridge, printed on cushion covers and blankets — the photos had originally brought her comfort, but eventually they caused her to have immeasurable sadness. She couldn’t talk or think about anything but Dad. She spent a huge majority of her time writing a sort of diary of their early relationship.
November 28th 2023 at 10pm, I said “see you in the morning” to Mum. She said “okay” and I went to bed.
November 29th 2023 at 6:59am, I woke up. Mum had died by suicide in the night. Nine weeks and six days after Dad had died.
By Christmas I was evicted from our home. I’ve been staying in my sister’s dining room ever since.
I have depression, anxiety, and PTSD.
So that’s the story of why I’ve been barely-here for the past year.

The Sunday Morning Post
September 3, 2017 10th Edition
Current News:
Yuri on Ice: ShitBang
On August 31st, if you love Yuri on Ice, your feed may have blown up with stories and artwork created as a means for writers and artists to come together and work on a project together.
What is the Shit Bang you ask? It is an amazing event for writers and artists to come together and write and draw about the amazing anime we all love: Yuri!!! On Ice! But a little more than that this is a direct - non-hateful - response to THAT blog. You know the one I’m talking about. Yup. THAT one. - @yoi-shit-bang
The amount of stories and artwork has been astounding. From one-shots, to multi-chapters, all written by amazing authors. Then there is all the amazing artwork that has come with it, by some amazing and very talented artists.
Please keep in mind that many subjects may trigger, please read all tags before reading a story.
Story Recommendation: we have loved the stars too fondly by @thehandsingsweapon
“We live in a blue planet that circles around a ball of fire next to a moon that moves the sea, and you don’t believe in miracles?”
After an academic career at MIT and Oxford, Yuuri Katsuki eschews job offers at places like NASA and CERN to go work at the Very Large Array in what Phichit Chulanont lovingly calls The Actual Middle of Nowhere, New Mexico, monitoring radio frequencies from light-years away. He's loved the stars for as long as he can remember, and the universe feels so big sometimes that Yuuri is sure it would be a cruel mistake for humans to be all alone.
Enter the latest scientist to join the staff of the VLA, enigmatic Russian genius Victor Nikiforov, around whom Yuuri’s entire universe seems to bend to make room, and the strange, recurring dreams Yuuri keeps having, where something like love carries him across the stars.
Does love travel faster than light? Do souls?
“The cosmos is within us. We are made of star-stuff. We are a way for the universe to know itself.”
"Yuri, on Stars!! This lovely short story will resonate with anyone that lives the heavens. Dreamscapes thought to be a figment of Yuuri's imagination turn out to be a more real than tangible science, and Viktor is patient with all his insecurities. With just the right amount of angst to give it depth, this vignette will take you into the endless cosmos!" - @darkrivertempest

Hey there!! Thanks so much for visiting my Patreon. I'm Kazu, also YukiPri on Tumblr. I'm currently a freelance translator and illustrator who is HOPING to support myself primarily through art. My passion is telling my own unique stories through visual media, and I love world-building, costume design, and overall extensively over-thinking all of my stories. This patreon is a step towards hopefully better sustaining myself off of art so I can continue to grow as a professional artist and produce content that you can enjoy! I am unbelievably grateful to every patron who helps me continue to do what I love doing. My wish is for the majority of my work to remain public, but I also desperately need to support myself, and also have a variety of content that I'm not comfortable posting publicly for various reasons. As thanks for your support, my patrons will get access to exclusive content, including WIPs/sketches, previews, art progress/tutorials, higher resolution art, early access, and nsfw content!

10 Questions Every Fic Writer Secretly Wants to be Asked by @wyseink (Click Title to reblog)
There are a lot of fic questions that float around online, but rarely do they ever ask specific questions about the fics themselves. Ask any writer one or more of these ten questions to learn more about the fic and show support.
1. Of the fics you’ve written, which is your favorite and why?
2. Which scene was your favorite to write in [title of fic]?
3. Which part of [title] was hardest to write?
4. If you could change anything in [title], what would it be?
5. Did you make an outline for [title]? Did you stick to it?
6. Which scenes did you cut, and which were added in [title]?
7. Who was your favorite character to write in [title]?
8. Which came first, the title or the fic?
9. Which idea came to you first in [title]?
10. What are some facts readers may not know about [title]?
Story Prompt:
Monochrome by @diamondwinters An AU where people who are sad, down, depressed cannot hide it. Whenever you get sad, you start to loose your color. Your skin turns pale, your eyes loose their color, and turn gray or white, and your hair turns gray. Like an old black and white tv show, you loose all your color when you’re very sad. A little bit of sadness might dim your natural colors, but you wouldn’t loose them. It’s during a time when you feel heart broken, or very depressed that you go Monochrome. Such as a big break up, a death of a loved one, deep depression, etc. Monochrome is the medical term used by the doctors in this AU to describe turning gray in a world of color.
Some people who are unable to get happy, may use make-up, contacts, and hair color to hide the fact that they’re depressed, but eventually even those things will loose their color and will need to be replaced.
The best thing to do is to find your happiness. Be with friends, and family who can help you bring your color back. The brighter you are, the more vivid your colors are, the happier you are.
Art Prompt:
Imagine your OTP by @bumble-beany
Person A: Are you awake?
Person B: I am now
Person A: I was just wondering...
Person A: What do you think it'd be like to be a pregnant male seahorse?
Person B: Really?! You woke me up for that?
W.I.P. Motivation:
Liquor Stash by @severeminx
I want him.
When the full realization hit him, Yuri felt as though he couldn’t breathe. Detached and fleeting thoughts that had passed through his mind finally took shape in these three words at that exact moment. The I being himself, Yuri Plisetsky, age 17, a Russian figure skater with a list of impressive accomplishments to his name that seemed pretty pointless right now given the context. The want being desire, the need to bury himself, the thought to consume, but never actually act out except behind locked doors in empty beds or shower stalls. The him being the person standing across from Yuri sipping coffee from a take-away cup with creased brows, the low sunlight hitting his face just so to light up his otherwise dark eyes. Someone he considered to be his best friend, who came all the way from Almaty just to spend a week with him and who was blissfully unaware of the fucking turmoil Yuri was feeling in the pit of his stomach. Or at least, Yuri hoped he was unaware.
In which Yuri Plisetsky invites Otabek Altin over to stay with him in Saint Petersburg, freaks out over his feelings and delves into Lilia's liquor stash.
Please go read and support this artist. They are looking for kudos and comments to get them back into finishing this fantastic story!

Info & FAQ (mobile friendly version)
It has come to our attention that the tumblr app unfortunately does not support additional blog pages, so this post is a slightly abbreviated version of our Info, Schedule, & FAQ pages for mobile users. The full pages can still be accessed on a phone if you use your browser app instead of the tumblr app.
Challenge Requirements
Hello, the requirements for Big Bang!!! on ICE are as follows: AUTHOR REQUIREMENTS:
Fics must be a minimum of 15,000 words.
One fic per author; co-writing is allowed but this fills your single fic allowance
Your work must either be brand new for the challenge or a previously unpublished WIP. Please keep information about your fic private before claims are announced.
This challenge is open to all pairings, ratings, and genres.
While this challenge is open to all pairings, ratings, and genres, we must ask that you tag for AO3’s major archive warnings which include; major character death, non-con, underage, and graphic violence, as well as potential triggers.
Finished fics should be published on AO3 and should remain publicly available for at least one year. There will be an official AO3 collection. If you decide to remove your affiliation with a fic later on, we would like to encourage you to orphan it as opposed to deleting it.
Chaptered works are allowed but fics must be posted in entirety on their assigned posting date.
You may register as both an author and an artist, but may not make art for your own fic.
ARTIST REQUIREMENTS:
Artists will create at least 2 pieces of original art per fic claimed. You are of course free to create more than the minimum number. Please see update below.
Mods will provide a banner for each fic/art for but you are welcome to make your own promotional banners for your masterpost as well as icons and other graphics. These graphics will not count towards your required two pieces.
Art can be either illustration or photomanipulation/edits/gifs; however, if it is a photomanipulation/edits/gifs we ask that it be more than just a simple filter application and demonstrate a certain level of artistic rigor.
Art can either be embedded in the fic or hosted elsewhere, this is up to you and your author.
You may register as both an author and an artist, but may not make art for your own fic.
Update Saturday Dec 16th, 2017:
Due to a large and unexpected number of drops and non-responses, we have far fewer writers than we initially thought we would. In the interest of allowing all the artists who signed up to participate, we have decided to modify the rules slightly to allow a maximum of 2 artists per fic. Contingent on availability, artists will be allowed to sign up for up to 3 fics if they so choose.
We are also modifying the minimum art requirement slightly to be 2 complete art pieces per fic instead two pieces per artist to reflect the changes in the team make up. Artists are free to go over the minimum requirement and make as many pieces as they like.
This means that:
• Fics will have a maximum of 2 artists. • Artists can sign up for a maximum of 3 fics, but only need to sign up for 1 • Each fic has a minimum requirement of 2 art pieces, but can have more if the artist(s) wants to draw more. This minimum means that if a fic has two artists each artist would only be required to make one piece.
Will artists know if there is a second artist on their team? Will they be able to contact them?
Yes, all members of the team will given each other’s contact information. This is so artists can contact and coordinate with each other over which scenes they want to draw.
Does this mean the artist now has to collaborate with the other artist to make pieces, or do they work separately?
Artists can choose to work separately alongside the fic, or collaborate on their pieces, this is entirely at the discretion of the individual teams. As long as the minimum requirement of two pieces per fic is met, artist(s) can tackle the project as they wish.
PARTICIPANTS UNDER 18:
Minors are allowed to participate, we only ask that underage artists not claim fics with explicit content, and underage writers not write fics that exceed the T rating.
Why does this restriction exist?
Some of your mods live in the US, which considers those under 18 to be minors. We are not here to police the content you create or consume in your free time. However, you cannot create content for this challenge that could have legal consequences for other participants (like your team mate) or one of us.
ARTIST CLAIM REQUIREMENTS:
Rough drafts must be 80% complete based on your final projected word count with remaining scenes outlined before it is eligible for artist claims. There is a table on the info page that can be used as a guideline.
Schedule
The challenge will take place over the course of roughly 6 months
Aug 1 sign-ups open
Sept 5 author and beta sign-ups close
Dec 11 artist sign-ups close
Dec 14 summary + rough draft (at least 80% complete with outline of remaining scenes) are due for claims
Dec 17 claims open
Dec 26 mandatory team check-ins
Jan 26 posting schedule released
Jan 31 final check-ins
Feb 9 posting begins!
FAQ
What is a big bang? How does this work?
A big bang is traditionally a 50,000 word challenge (we’re doing a smaller scaled down version of 15k+) in which authors have a set amount of time to write a fic of specified minimum length, which is then claimed by an artist who will illustrate two or more scenes from the story.
Authors and artists function as a team and will share a posting date and masterpost on the challenge blog. You will communicate directly with each other over the months of December and January. Please keep in mind that this is not a commission. Artists may choose to illustrate a different scene than what the author had in mind. You are both creators so please be respectful.
Some artists like to claim more than one fic - however authors will be matched with a maximum of one artist. Should an artist have to drop out (emergencies happen) we will try our best to arrange for a pinch hitter.
I’ve never done a big bang before, can I sign up?
Yes, definitely - this challenge is open to everyone.
Where do I sign up?
The sign up link is posted at the bottom of the challenge info page (which can be found on the bar just under the header image), as well as in the blog description. There will also be a sign up post.
Can I sign up for more than one role? More than one fic?
Yes, you may sign up as an author, an artist, and/or a beta. The only rule is that you cannot make art for your own fic as this is meant to be a collaborative event. We also have a restriction of one fic per author; co-writing is allowed but this fills your single fic allowance.
Will you be assigning betas? Are they required?
We of course encourage authors to find and use betas as this is something that greatly helps out the writing and editing process.
This being said, we will not be involved in the actual process beyond providing a list of names of people that have signed up as betas for this event. It will be up to the author to contact and exchange information with them. Please understand that given the nature of sign ups there may be more authors than betas or more betas than authors.
You are also free to use your own betas and are in no way restricted to this list.
How exactly do claims work? How much will the artists see for claims?
Claims will be submitted via a separate google form and then collated into a document that will be shared with the artists. They will be first come first serve.
Artists will be able to see a summary, (working) title, rating, ships, and any applicable warnings/tags.
The 80% rough draft + outline of the remaining scenes requirement for claims is so that artists will have enough material to begin working once teams are assigned, as well as a way to make sure that the authors will meet the posting deadline. These can be shared either through a google doc or uploading a file separately on the form. This will not be available for artists to see during claims.
Detailed instructions regarding how to submit your work for claims will be e-mailed to authors before the due date.
Something came up, what if I need to drop out?
There is no penalty for dropping out before claims, but if you do please let us know so we can remove you from the mailing list.
If you need to drop out after claims please email us immediately at [email protected] so that we can arrange for pinch hitters for an author. If the author drops out artists will be offered the opportunity to post their art on their original posting date. You must also contact your author or artist directly to let them know you are dropping out.
Do not use social media to announce drops, we do not want your author or artist to find out about it this way.
I haven’t received the Discord Server invite yet, what should I do?
Send us an ask off-anon and we’ll give you an invite.
Alternatively, you can send us a mail to [email protected] and we'll send you an invite that way.
How to contact us:
Please email us at [email protected] if you have specific questions.
You may also submit general questions via tumblr, though given that tumblr is notorious for eating messages don’t use it for anything important. Also check out our ask tag for more questions and answers! We also have a search bar at the bottom of the description box so you can run a search on keywords to see if your question as already been answered!

Gold and Silver Follow Similar Trend to Bitcoin, React to News About China
New Post has been published on https://coinmakers.tech/news/gold-and-silver-follow-similar-trend-to-bitcoin-react-to-news-about-china
Gold and Silver Follow Similar Trend to Bitcoin, React to News About China
Gold and Silver Follow Similar Trend to Bitcoin, React to News About China
With crypto prices moving after almost every positive or negative bit of news related to China, gold and silver markets have been reacting to such events as well. With some exceptions, the overall trend in their value has been negative since September. The prospects of both digital coins and precious metals seem to be more and more dependent on China’s growing influence.
Prices of Precious Metals Decline Since September
Gold and silver have had a hard time recently, not unlike cryptocurrencies. Their prices have been generally falling in the past few months. From a seasonal high of more than $1,550 an ounce in early September, gold has dropped to a little over $1,450 in late November, while silver is currently trading at less than $17 an ounce, down from $19.5 a couple of months ago.
On Monday, gold prices dipped as much as 0.3% to $1,460.30 an ounce, while silver prices dropped 0.5% to $16.91 an ounce around 5:50 am New York time, the Trading Economics website reported. Both commodities reached their all-time highs in 2011, with silver exceeding $49.50 in April of that year and gold touching $1,920 in September.
Crypto markets have also experienced a downward trend during the same period of this year. On Sept. 3, bitcoin core (BTC) was trading for almost $10,700 per coin, according to market data compiled by markets.Bitcoin.com. Since then, the price of the crypto with the largest cap has dropped to a low of below $6,600 on the first day of this week, a negative difference of over $4,000 in less than three months.
Gold Falls With New Hopes for Trade Deal With China
Various factors exert influence over the prices of precious metals and cryptocurrencies such as the global economic outlook which has been quite negative throughout the year, convincing investors to seek refuge in alternative stores of value. But in the last couple of months there’s been another factor, the growing weight of which is hard to ignore: China. Developments and news related to the People’s Republic have impacted the crypto space in the past few weeks.
A speech by the Chinese President Xi Jinping last month, who emphasized that his country should gain an edge in blockchain, was received with enthusiasm by crypto investors. Their perception of it as a bullish statement pushed prices up, with bitcoin core crossing the $10,000 mark in the days after Xi’s Politburo address. Then the recent crackdown on crypto platforms showed that the People’s Republic of China isn’t going to embrace decentralized digital currencies. Crypto markets reacted to that news as well, shedding billions last week.
In the case with gold and silver, another China-related development had a depressing effect on their prices. Not that the global economic forecasts have improved significantly, but hopes were raised last week for new negotiations with the Unites States to put an end to the looming trade war between the two powers. The U.S. Department of Commerce revealed it has begun issuing licenses for American companies to supply non-sensitive goods to the Chinese tech giant Huawei.
The news has likely caused the subsequent fall of gold prices. On Wednesday, spot prices declined by 0.15% to $1,469.87 per ounce, having touched a two-week high of $1,478.80 earlier, CNBC reported. “The announcement seems to be the proximate trigger for gold’s stumble,” noted Tai Wong, head of base and precious metals derivatives trading at BMO, as quoted by the channel’s online edition. At the same time, silver lost 0.14% to $17.11 an ounce. Analysts believe that in the coming months the Trump administration will increase pressure on China to reach a new trade deal before the 2020 U.S. presidential election. Beijing, however, may choose to wait for the vote’s results before signing one.

Preorder How Not to Diet Now!
My new book How Not to Diet is now available for preorder!
It’s hard to express how excited I am that it’s finally coming out. It’s the biggest single research project I’ve ever taken on. There are more than a half million papers published in the medical literature on obesity with 100 new ones every day. It’s no wonder no one has yet pulled together all the best science…until now!
In Part 1, I explain the cause of the obesity epidemic. What exactly happened in the late 1970’s that triggered the global crisis? In Part 2, I construct the ideal weight loss diet from the ground up, identifying 17 different ingredients for optimal weight control with a chapter on each. Then, in Part 3, I go through specific foods proven in randomized, controlled trials to enhance weight loss by acting as everything from fat blockers and burners to appetite suppressants and metabolic boosters. And it’s not just what you eat, but how and when. In the last twenty chapters, I dive into optimal meal and exercise timing and frequency, habit formation, negative calorie preloading, and more—all immortalized in my Twenty-One Tweaks to accelerate weight loss that will complement my Daily Dozen.
Why Pre-Order?
The book comes out on December 10, 2019, in time for the holidays and the burst of New Year resolutions. We’re hoping to get on all the major media outlets so we can spread the idea of evidence-based nutrition far and wide, but that depends in part on whether I can get on the New York Times Best Seller List. The list is decided based on the number of sales we get in the first week—including all of the pre-order sales. Thanks to so many of you, when How Not to Die launched, there were already tens of thousands of orders queued up, so it debuted as an instant New York Times Best Seller starting out at #6 on the list. Ready to help me shoot for #1? Pre-order it now at https://nutritionfacts.org/how-not-to-diet.
I don’t receive a penny from the book. It’s right in my contract that all the money I would normally receive from the advance and sales and royalties instead goes to charity. But the faster the book sells, the more opportunity I may have to broadcast this message of dietary sanity to the world. Wouldn’t it be amazing if I could get on some of the big morning shows? With your help, we can reach many more millions. So please pre-order a copy for yourself, and however many copies you think you may be able to gift to friends and family to get them on the right track for the new year (and the rest of their long, healthy life!). And if you’re active on social media, help me get the word out by directing folks to the pre-order page. I’ll be using the hashtag #HowNotToDiet.
And Don’t Forget Your Signed Bookplates!
By pre-ordering the book now, not only will you help launch How Not to Diet onto the New York Times Best Seller list, but you’ll also be able to get a bookplate signed by me to insert in the book. Just make a donation of any amount with this form, and we’ll send you a signed bookplate in appreciation. It makes a great gift or a keepsake for yourself. Your tax-deductible donation helps keep NutritionFacts.org going and growing. There’s only 3,000 bookplates available, so don’t delay!
I end the Preface with these words:
“This has been a mammoth but joyful undertaking. People sometimes ask me why I don’t go on vacations or even ever take a day off. I have to explain that I feel as though my entire life is a holiday. I feel so blessed to be able to dedicate my time to helping people while doing what I love, learning and sharing. I can’t imagine doing anything else.”
New Webinar: Fasting for Disease Reversal
Last month, thousands of people joined me for my first webinar on fasting, something I knew next to nothing about… until I did this deep dive into the medical literature. By my count, there are 1,527 articles on fasting in English-language peer-reviewed scientific journals, and I read every single one of them so you… don’t have to!
I’ve compiled all the best science into 41 videos which I will drip out on NutritionFacts.org over the next few years, but for those who don’t want to wait, we have a series of webinars so I can share the information all at once and answer questions throughout.
Last month I had a blast covering all the latest and greatest research on intermittent fasting and time-restricted eating. You can stream all the videos I covered here. I also covered the safety and efficacy of water-only fasting for weight loss, but what about the use of fasting for the reversal of disease? That’s the focus of my next fasting webinar, where I will spend three hours covering fasting for blood pressure, diabetes, depression, autoimmune diseases, and more. To get the full list of topics and titles, visit the webinar page.
Webinar Date & Time: September 29th at 1pm ET
Registration Closes: Midnight on September 22nd
There was so much research regarding fasting and cancer, that we made its own separate webinar as the third and final installation of the webinar series. This 3-hour webinar will be October 25th (on my birthday!) and focus on fasting for cancer reversal and during chemotherapy. Make sure to mark your calendars now—registration will begin in September.
To join: Make a donation through this form and we will send you a link to register for the September 29th Fasting for Disease Reversal webinar as a gift. Your support helps keep NutritionFacts.org alive and thriving!

Preorder How Not to Diet Now!
Preorder How Not to Diet Now!:

Repost of: How I Got my Snippet Back in Google SERPs
(Repost from my now defunct Google+ page, Sept. 17 2016)
In April 2016, when Etsy changed the coding so that shop announcements were no longer meta descriptions for search engines, many sellers found that their home pages now came up in Google with Etsy's generic blurb "Browse unique items from cindylouwho2 on Etsy, a global marketplace of handmade, vintage and creative goods". However, that depended on the search - a more specific query than your shop name may turn up different snippets. I managed to keep a combination of featured items and shop announcement as my snippet until the end of June, when changing my announcement to mention the Canada Post labour uncertainty seemed to be the trigger for showing Etsy's meta-description. I have been playing with different elements since then, trying to figure out what Google might like better than Etsy's wording. Finally this week, success! My screenshot captures what Google is currently showing for my Etsy shop in the SERPs. I cannot guarantee that it will stay this way, of course, but here are some of the factors which seem to favour showing the shop owner's text instead of Etsy's generic blurb: 1) Featured items that are representative of your shop. Google is usually showing part of my featured items' titles, which overlap several words with my page title "Abalone Shell Jewelry Sea Glass Jewellery Fossil Stones" while not copying them exactly. My text wasn't showing on Google when I removed my featured items. 2) A shop announcement that relates to your shop. When I inserted a line about Canada Post at the beginning, Google decided to show Etsy's meta description instead. 3) Using the shop name in the announcement. I did not have "cindylouwho2" near the top of my announcement when the Etsy blurb took over - & note the Etsy blurb does include the shop name. 4) A recognized (by Google) shop name. When you Google "cindylouwho2" Google gives you other suggested searches that include items I make. Most of the first page of a Google search for my name - sometimes the whole page - is about me. Google also gives suggestions about what I sell when you enter "cindylouwho2" into the Keyword Planner. Google recognizes my online presence as a bit of a brand (tiny, but still a brand). I have noticed that shops whose names are similar to many other business and websites, and who do not own most of the first page real estate on Google, are less likely to avoid the Etsy generic blurb. (How do you get most of the first page on Google to lead to you? Have your own website, have shops on other venues, have social media accounts) 5) Ever-changing shop home page. I do believe this is quite important, and with items not automatically renewing to the front of our shops anymore, this is something many people are not doing. By adding new & renewed/edited listings to the first page of your shop quite frequently, you send Google the signal that this is a happening page that it should keep track of. Do you know of any other shops that have avoided being represented by Etsy's meta description in the SERPs? Let me know about them (in the comments on this post, or via message) because I would love to analyze more examples!

For families of some 9/11 victims, new DNA tools reopen old wounds
NEW YORK (Reuters) – A breakthrough in DNA analysis is helping identify more victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks in New York, but the scientific advance is of little consolation for families of those whose remains may have been buried in a Staten Island landfill.
The official death toll in the attacks on lower Manhattan’s World Trade Center is 2,753, including the missing and presumed dead. Only 1,642 of them, or about 60 percent, have been positively identified.
The New York City Medical Examiner’s Office has worked for 17 years to identify the remaining 1,100 victims. Using advances in DNA extraction techniques over the past five years, it has made five more identifications.
The advances have been bittersweet for 9/11 families who unsuccessfully fought to stop the city from making a park out of Staten Island’s enormous Fresh Kills landfill, where 1.8 million tons of Twin Towers debris was dumped and buried.
“We are grateful that the identification continues, but there is more material that could have been part of that had the city not been so cavalier with us,” said Diane Horning, who led a failed court battle by a group called World Trade Center Families for Proper Burial that hoped block the park project.
Horning led the group, although her son Matthew was one of those identified early on. Matthew, 26, a database administrator for an insurance company, was working the 95th floor of the North Tower when the planes hit.
New York’s Second Circuit Court of Appeals found in 2009 that accusations that the city had mishandled the remains at Fresh Kills amounted to “lack of due care,” which was not sufficient to successfully sue the city.
New York officials said at the time that the city did not intend to be insensitive or offend victims’ families.
To create the park, Fresh Kills Landfill was covered with layers of soil and other materials to prevent the release of toxic gas from decomposing trash into the atmosphere, according to the Freshkills Park Alliance, New York City’s nonprofit partner in developing the park.
Charles Wolf lost his wife Katherine on September 11 and her remains have not been identified.
If they are in the sealed landfill, he considers it “God’s will” and he is “at peace” with it.

“What’s the remedy? Dig everything up and risk exposing all those toxins again to the environment?, Wolf said. “No, that’s not the answer, because all of a sudden now the cure is worse than the disease.”
SCIENTIFIC BREAKTHROUGH
The ability to identify more victims is the latest chapter in a saga of pain that began on the morning of Sept. 11, 2001, when two airliners crashed into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center.
Destruction of the Twin Towers was part of the coordinated hijackings of four airliners by al-Qaeda militants that killed nearly 3,000 people in New York, Washington and western Pennsylvania, where one of the planes crashed in a farm field. The attacks triggered an escalation of U.S. military involvement in the Middle East that persists to this day.
A scientific breakthrough in the extraction of genetic material was made this year and announced by the New York City chief medical examiner last week, as the 17th anniversary of the attacks approached.
The new technique places bone fragments in a chamber containing liquid nitrogen to make them more fragile so they can be pulverized into fine powder. The more a bone is pulverized, the more likely it becomes to extract DNA.
It is the latest effort in the largest forensic investigation in U.S. history, involving a medical examiner’s team of 10 scientists working on remains once thought too degraded from jet fuel, heat and other conditions to undergo testing.
“We’re going back to the same remains that we’ve tried five, 10, 15 times,” Mark Desire, who heads the Medical Examiner’s crime lab, said in the briefing last week.
“We are making DNA profiles from remains we had no hopes of identifying in the past,” he added.
Wolf, who was not among those who opposed the Freshkills Park project, was gratified by the renewed effort.
“It warms my heart that possibly there will be remains found for people who still want them,” he said.
“I’ve gone through a lot of trauma with nothing to grieve over,” Wolf said, choking up in a telephone interview. “I remember watching Nancy Reagan touch her husband’s casket. I miss not having that.”
