Posting Information & Instructions
I. Posting the individual pieces
Please post your fic and art as close to your scheduled date as possible. If you have to post a few hours earlier due time zones or personal schedules, that’s completely fine! Please refrain from promoting the fic anywhere BEFORE the official post goes out on the challenge blog. Afterwards feel free to promote as much as you want anywhere else.
TEAMS:
Pick one member of the team to submit the masterpost to tumblr.
Coordinate and communicate clearly with each other prior to and on your posting day. There is nothing scarier than thinking your teammate(s) have ghosted you on posting day.
Discuss what time of day you can post your parts and be mindful of differences in time zones. You might have to wait a few hours for your team members to either wake up, get back from work, etc, to be able to submit the masterpost. This is perfectly fine and is nothing to stress or worry about. Nobody is going to be punished for living in a different time zone.
Posting times are flexible; you may post anytime from 12AM in the earliest timezone to 11:59PM in the latest timezone. Whichever is most convenient for you and your team.
AUTHORS
Complete fics should be posted to AO3. Posting can take a lot longer than anticipated, especially with longer or chaptered works, so you might want to do the bulk of the work the day before. Keep your fics in draft form until posting day. All fics must be posted in their entirety on their posting day; DO NOT SERIAL POST.
Artists can choose whether to create an art post to be linked from the masterpost, to have the art embedded in the fic, or both. Authors, please defer to your artists on this.
If you need help formatting your document, consider this handy resource for Google Drive!
If your artist will be submitting the masterpost to tumblr for your team, send them a link to where the fic will be available so it can be included in the post.
ARTISTS:
Artists can choose whether to create a separate art post to be linked from the masterpost, to have the art embedded in the fic, or both. Authors should defer to artists on this.
Art should be posted wherever you usually post, or wherever you want to host them for this challenge (AO3, tumblr, DeviantArt, LJ, imgur). Please lock your posts until your scheduled posting day (or the evening before).
If you are allowing your author to embed the art, please send either the files OR links to where the files are hosted.
Finally, unless you are the one submitting the masterpost to tumblr for your team, email your author a link to where the art will be available so they can include it in the masterpost.
II. Posting to the AO3 Collection
We have an AO3 collection for this challenge. The collection can be found here and in the sidebar. The collection is moderated, so it might take some time before your fic/art shows up.
Please include the tag “bigbangonice2018” in case something goes wrong when posting to the collection so that we have another way to find your work.
III. Banners
When you submit your masterpost to this blog, please include a banner.
If you do not wish to make your own banner for your team, email the mods with the fic title and the names of the team members as you would like them to appear on the banner, and they can provide one for you. If you choose to have the mods create a banner for you, please let us know before the final check in. Keep in mind that any banner the mods create for you will be more generic given volume and time constraints.
If you wish to make your own banners you can refer to the Banner Info and Resources post here, as well as in the sidebar where more information regarding banners can be found.
IV. Submitting Your Masterpost to Blog
On the day of OR the evening before your posting date, please coordinate for ONE team member to submit your team’s masterpost. The mods will publish your post on your scheduled posting date.
A sample masterpost can be found here to give you an idea of what it should look like.
If you run into problems or your team would prefer the mods post for you, include all of the following information in an email to us:
1. Click on the ‘Submit Your Masterpost’ link in either the topbar or sidebar of the challenge blog.
2. Upload your banner in the ‘Choose Photo’ field
3. Include the following information in the body/caption of the post:
Title: Author(s): Artist(s): Rating: General, Teen, Mature, or Explicit Length: Pairings: List the primary pairing(s) first, then indicate secondary/background pairings in parentheses - e.g (background) character a/character b. If your fic is gen, please put that information here. Warnings: We only require Ao3’s major archive warnings (Major Character Death, Rape/Non-con, Graphic Violence, Underage) or a Choose Not to Warn label. You are also free to add any other common warnings or squicks if you feel they are necessary. Tags: You may include any additional tags that you like. Examples include tags such as AU, Canon Divergence, Fantasy, etc. This is optional.
[Put your summary here]
Link to fic Link to art (Please coordinate with your partner to get their separate link. If your team decided to post the fic and art together in one place, please write “Link to fic and art”)
4. Tag your post: Please check the suggested tags and include any relevant secondary pairing tags.
5. Hit submit.
Your mods are human and have to eat, sleep, and fulfill various real life obligations, so there may be some delay between submitting your masterpost and seeing it appear on the blog, we ask that you please be patient.
V. More Questions?
Please send any additional questions via email to [email protected]

Info & FAQ (mobile friendly version)
It has come to our attention that the tumblr app unfortunately does not support additional blog pages, so this post is a slightly abbreviated version of our Info, Schedule, & FAQ pages for mobile users. The full pages can still be accessed on a phone if you use your browser app instead of the tumblr app.
Challenge Requirements
Hello, the requirements for Big Bang!!! on ICE are as follows: AUTHOR REQUIREMENTS:
Fics must be a minimum of 15,000 words.
One fic per author; co-writing is allowed but this fills your single fic allowance
Your work must either be brand new for the challenge or a previously unpublished WIP. Please keep information about your fic private before claims are announced.
This challenge is open to all pairings, ratings, and genres.
While this challenge is open to all pairings, ratings, and genres, we must ask that you tag for AO3’s major archive warnings which include; major character death, non-con, underage, and graphic violence, as well as potential triggers.
Finished fics should be published on AO3 and should remain publicly available for at least one year. There will be an official AO3 collection. If you decide to remove your affiliation with a fic later on, we would like to encourage you to orphan it as opposed to deleting it.
Chaptered works are allowed but fics must be posted in entirety on their assigned posting date.
You may register as both an author and an artist, but may not make art for your own fic.
ARTIST REQUIREMENTS:
Artists will create at least 2 pieces of original art per fic claimed. You are of course free to create more than the minimum number. Please see update below.
Mods will provide a banner for each fic/art for but you are welcome to make your own promotional banners for your masterpost as well as icons and other graphics. These graphics will not count towards your required two pieces.
Art can be either illustration or photomanipulation/edits/gifs; however, if it is a photomanipulation/edits/gifs we ask that it be more than just a simple filter application and demonstrate a certain level of artistic rigor.
Art can either be embedded in the fic or hosted elsewhere, this is up to you and your author.
You may register as both an author and an artist, but may not make art for your own fic.
Update Saturday Dec 16th, 2017:
Due to a large and unexpected number of drops and non-responses, we have far fewer writers than we initially thought we would. In the interest of allowing all the artists who signed up to participate, we have decided to modify the rules slightly to allow a maximum of 2 artists per fic. Contingent on availability, artists will be allowed to sign up for up to 3 fics if they so choose.
We are also modifying the minimum art requirement slightly to be 2 complete art pieces per fic instead two pieces per artist to reflect the changes in the team make up. Artists are free to go over the minimum requirement and make as many pieces as they like.
This means that:
• Fics will have a maximum of 2 artists. • Artists can sign up for a maximum of 3 fics, but only need to sign up for 1 • Each fic has a minimum requirement of 2 art pieces, but can have more if the artist(s) wants to draw more. This minimum means that if a fic has two artists each artist would only be required to make one piece.
Will artists know if there is a second artist on their team? Will they be able to contact them?
Yes, all members of the team will given each other’s contact information. This is so artists can contact and coordinate with each other over which scenes they want to draw.
Does this mean the artist now has to collaborate with the other artist to make pieces, or do they work separately?
Artists can choose to work separately alongside the fic, or collaborate on their pieces, this is entirely at the discretion of the individual teams. As long as the minimum requirement of two pieces per fic is met, artist(s) can tackle the project as they wish.
PARTICIPANTS UNDER 18:
Minors are allowed to participate, we only ask that underage artists not claim fics with explicit content, and underage writers not write fics that exceed the T rating.
Why does this restriction exist?
Some of your mods live in the US, which considers those under 18 to be minors. We are not here to police the content you create or consume in your free time. However, you cannot create content for this challenge that could have legal consequences for other participants (like your team mate) or one of us.
ARTIST CLAIM REQUIREMENTS:
Rough drafts must be 80% complete based on your final projected word count with remaining scenes outlined before it is eligible for artist claims. There is a table on the info page that can be used as a guideline.
Schedule
The challenge will take place over the course of roughly 6 months
Aug 1 sign-ups open
Sept 5 author and beta sign-ups close
Dec 11 artist sign-ups close
Dec 14 summary + rough draft (at least 80% complete with outline of remaining scenes) are due for claims

FAQ
What is a big bang? How does this work?
A big bang is traditionally a 50,000 word challenge (we’re doing a smaller scaled down version of 15k+) in which authors have a set amount of time to write a fic of specified minimum length, which is then claimed by an artist who will illustrate two or more scenes from the story.
Authors and artists function as a team and will share a posting date and masterpost on the challenge blog. You will communicate directly with each other over the months of December and January. Please keep in mind that this is not a commission. Artists may choose to illustrate a different scene than what the author had in mind. You are both creators so please be respectful.
Some artists like to claim more than one fic - however authors will be matched with a maximum of one artist. Should an artist have to drop out (emergencies happen) we will try our best to arrange for a pinch hitter.
I’ve never done a big bang before, can I sign up?
Yes, definitely - this challenge is open to everyone.
Where do I sign up?
The sign up link is posted at the bottom of the challenge info page (which can be found on the bar just under the header image), as well as in the blog description. There will also be a sign up post.
Can I sign up for more than one role? More than one fic?
Yes, you may sign up as an author, an artist, and/or a beta. The only rule is that you cannot make art for your own fic as this is meant to be a collaborative event. We also have a restriction of one fic per author; co-writing is allowed but this fills your single fic allowance.
Will you be assigning betas? Are they required?
We of course encourage authors to find and use betas as this is something that greatly helps out the writing and editing process.
This being said, we will not be involved in the actual process beyond providing a list of names of people that have signed up as betas for this event. It will be up to the author to contact and exchange information with them. Please understand that given the nature of sign ups there may be more authors than betas or more betas than authors.
You are also free to use your own betas and are in no way restricted to this list.
How exactly do claims work? How much will the artists see for claims?
Claims will be submitted via a separate google form and then collated into a document that will be shared with the artists. They will be first come first serve.
Artists will be able to see a summary, (working) title, rating, ships, and any applicable warnings/tags.
The 80% rough draft + outline of the remaining scenes requirement for claims is so that artists will have enough material to begin working once teams are assigned, as well as a way to make sure that the authors will meet the posting deadline. These can be shared either through a google doc or uploading a file separately on the form. This will not be available for artists to see during claims.
Detailed instructions regarding how to submit your work for claims will be e-mailed to authors before the due date.
Something came up, what if I need to drop out?
There is no penalty for dropping out before claims, but if you do please let us know so we can remove you from the mailing list.
If you need to drop out after claims please email us immediately at [email protected] so that we can arrange for pinch hitters for an author. If the author drops out artists will be offered the opportunity to post their art on their original posting date. You must also contact your author or artist directly to let them know you are dropping out.
Do not use social media to announce drops, we do not want your author or artist to find out about it this way.
I haven’t received the Discord Server invite yet, what should I do?
Send us an ask off-anon and we’ll give you an invite.
Alternatively, you can send us a mail to [email protected] and we'll send you an invite that way.
How to contact us:
Please email us at [email protected] if you have specific questions.
You may also submit general questions via tumblr, though given that tumblr is notorious for eating messages don’t use it for anything important. Also check out our ask tag for more questions and answers! We also have a search bar at the bottom of the description box so you can run a search on keywords to see if your question as already been answered!

Banner Info & Resources Post
When you submit your masterpost to this blog, please include a banner.
If you do not wish to make your own banner for your team, email the mods with the fic title and the names of the team members as you would like them to appear on the banner, and they can provide one for you. If you choose to have the mods create a banner for you, please let us know before the final check in. Keep in mind that any banner the mods create for you will be more generic given volume and time constraints.
If your team has decided to make your own banner, please carefully read the following:
Please use only art that one of your team members created (this doesn’t have to be a special piece, it can be a crop of an illustration they did for the fic - the important thing is that they are the ones who created it), or use only official art/screencaps, or open source images. Please do not commission banners from outside artists.
You may be as creative as you like for your banner as long as it is the proper size, and includes the relevant info such as the title and team members. The sample post is to give you a general idea, you are in no way limited to the layout or fonts chosen for the sample banner.
Banners should be 800 x 420 pixels at 72 dpi.
