Honestly, the Edirol SD-80 I recently bought as a hatchday present for myself has made me extremely happy. The quality and quantity of the sounds are both high and, even though I prefer making my own sounds for my music, what is included on it is just great. It absolutely sounds like a mid-late 90s synth, but I don't care. It sounds great and it's super usable, even 20 years after it released.
I've even got people in a discord server I'm in talking about making a better software editor for the thing, which will make diving into its synth engine much more comfortable and will allow me to make all sorts of new sounds with it.
I'd make the editor myself, but I don't know how to use Ctrlr and I don't have a Sysex reference for the synth, though apparently the SD-90's Sysex reference is the same, which I can believe since the two synths are very similar to each other.

The most fucked thing on planet earth is being like. A real nerd about old collectibles or tech and then buying something and getting INCREDIBLY excited only to realize that quite literally you're the only one who cares that much

Alright, I got one. Do you have a favourite key when it comes to music? A favourite instrument, too? Maybe even... a favourite time signature? I'm just curious.
My favourite keys are B minor, C# minor, and F# minor! My favourite instrument... I think maybe Brightness 3 from the Edirol SD-90? Or maybe Oct. Jp Saw from the SD-90 too I also like the default sine wave from Fruity Sytrus with some portamento and reverb lol My favourite (unconventional) time signature is probably 7/4, 11/4, or 13/4

I tried recreating the theme song from The Amazing Digital Circus!
I've heard from a lot of places Gooseworx uses the now 20-ish year old abandoned ,,Edirol Orchestral'' VST plugin, but I'm not sure this is what she used for the TADC music as I couldn't find any instrument that sounded similar to the lead brass in the theme even when messing with their characterization knobs, unless it was several layered sounds, I'm not sure.
My project ended up being completely destroyed however, because for some reason that old janky VST plugin did not save ANY of my settings once I reloaded the project. AAAGHHH
Welp, its on me anyway for trying to use a decade old abandoned VST plugin. Either way I hope y'all enjoyed my yap sessh.
The actual MIDI / note arrangement was made by Aelsir on OnlineSequencer, original song belongs to Gooseworx obv

Greetings! Thank you for reblogging my fan soundtrack for "Nine Sols", I'm glad you enjoyed it)
In your reblog you asked me about the program I use. It's FL studio 20. I also used the following pluggins: EDIROL orchestra (my main usually), LABS (good drums, pianos and ambience) and Asian DreamZ (took it specifically for NS asian vibes, it contains good folk instruments)
Hope this will help!
THANK YOU!!! I prob won’t do anything for now, but maybe I’ll cook over break

So like, historically speaking, what have you used for woodwinds in your music? Any that you’d recommend?
back then, Edirol Orchestral. nowadays, Cinematic Studio Woodwinds.

Minimal Pixel Videoinstallation D 2006

► New Song: "For the Stars"
Song 1 of 8 from my debut album "I Would Like to Introduce" --> Watch the associated music visualizer on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FMwnC4q5EUc ► You can listen to the album in these places: https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/daymusik/i-would-like-to-introduce-2
🐾 A bold choice to open an album with a slow song, I'm sure, but if people don't like it, that's not my problem. I decided, for my debut album, that I would open it with a modern take of the very first song I ever made. "For the Stars" was a song I made in 2010 during a road trip from Kentucky to Nevada to visit family. As I sat in the backseat of the car (because I was 14 at the time), I looked out at the clear, starry night sky and was just taken by how many stars I could see out in the desert sky. I remember having this feeling, I can't explain it, but I wanted to express it somehow, so I opened up my little ol' iPod Touch, opened my Xewton Music Studio app, and made a pretty similar version of what you hear here, just much, much less developed, of course. I have the original song uploaded somewhere on SoundCloud (but you can't see it right now because I haven't been able to pay for it), and it was also my first full-length song. 🐾 Opening with this song shows that I'm a band kid at heart, while I was never in an orchestra, the use of strings, flute, oboe, clarinet, glockenspiel, and vibraphone instruments (and the strings are individual instances of Edirol Orchestral for Violins, Violas, Celli, and Contrabasses, just one for each, though, as the VST has, like, "Violin ensemble" and whatnot to get a fuller sound) — the use of these instruments is meant to signify my connection to classical music and traditional instrument performance, me being a percussionist myself. Near the end, I have a marching snare drum solo meant to signify my connection with marching band as a percussionist, one year having marched in the drumline, but for the other 4 years, I marched in the front ensemble. Then, of course, the song shifts to a more EDM-style vibe to better represent the style of music I will most likely be making, but with the classical instruments mixed in as there will always be that element of classical and traditional music in what I do.

How easy is it to use Edirol SD-90 physically? Do you simply plug it in your PC via USB? Do you need some extra stuff like voltage converter?
Yeah it connects via USB You do need to edit some driver text files if you're using anything above Windows 7, but there are tutorials for it (they are easy to find on Google) You don't need a voltage converter if you order an SD-90 that's compatible with your region, but it always helps to check the sellers pictures and description to see which voltage converter you might need, just in case
