The approach worked more quickly than existing techniques to eliminate clots formed in an in vitro model of cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST), according to a new study.

“Our previous work looked at various techniques that use ultrasound to eliminate blood clots using what are essentially forward-facing waves,” says Xiaoning Jiang, co-corresponding author of the paper in the journal Research. “Our new work uses vortex ultrasound, where the ultrasound waves have a helical wavefront.

“In other words, the ultrasound is swirling as it moves forward,” says Jiang, professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering at North Carolina State University. “Based on our in vitro testing, this approach eliminates blood clots more quickly than existing techniques, largely because of the shear stress induced by the vortex wave.”

soojin had spent the day with minnie clinging to her side. the thai girl had gotten a case of the flu and all she wanted was to be with soojin. if the ‘older’ girl did as much as look away from minnie for a second, the little would burst into tears.

luckily, soojin found minnie’s clinginess when she was regressed to be adorable and she had no problem giving all of her attention to the baby.

minnie had her head on soojin’s chest, watching her cartoons on tv. every now and then, soojin would have the little blow her nose into a tissue. she also had an alarm set up for when minnie was supposed to take her medicine. she had taken it a few times previously, putting up a fight every single time.

right as minnie started to drift off to sleep, the alarm for her medicine went off on her caregiver’s phone. from the previous times that day, she quickly learned what the alarm meant. she began to whine and fuss, knowing she had to take the yucky medicine.

“i know you don’t like it, but it’ll help you feel better baby” soojin said in a soft voice, brushing her fingers through the little’s hair. she got up and carried minnie to the kitchen, setting her down on the open counter space.

as soojin was getting the pink bubblegum medicine ready, minnie glared at her. she wondered why she was making her take this yucky stuff when she knew she didn’t like it. she whined more, kicking her feet against the counters.

soojin pushed minnie’s bangs back and planted a kiss on the little’s forehead, hoping to get this over with. she expected minnie to whine and be upset, but what she didn’t expect was for her to slam her fists against the counter.

“no! no ‘edicine!” minnie yelled. “i know honey, but you have to take it or else you won’t get better” soojin reasoned, thinking of ways to get the sick little to take her medicine.

“if you take your medicine, i’ll make you a bowl of ice cream with sprinkles and candy, and i’ll let you stay up extra late tonight. does that sound good, princess?” she knew giving ice cream to minnie wasn’t the best idea, especially this late at night, but she couldn’t think of anything else.

minnie’s tears immediately stopped, “ya! ya! ice cweam!” she clapped her hands and smiled. soojin sighed in relief, knowing her plan worked.

she brought the syringe full of medicine up to minnie’s mouth, giving her the entire thing. minnie drank it all diligently, excited for her bowl of ice cream.

soojin smiled and littered minnie’s face with kisses, praising her for taking the medicine. the little giggled, pushing her caregiver away.

the day ended with minnie asleep on soojin’s lap, with a bowl of half-eaten melted ice cream. soojin also began to doze off, holding minnie close to her.
