haha I'm a coconut oil and 2-blade-minimum (preferably 3, 4, or best yet, 5) disposable razor person myself, the base layer of coconut oil is so key for me and without that those razors would irritate my skin madly as well, and then the shaving cream over the coconut oil is nice ...for the record though I'm shaving like twice a month lol so some of that may be not applicable, everyone's a bit different tbh, but hopefully this wisdom helps someone out there...this applies to anyone regardless of gender/where you're shaving actually:
key wisdom is always shaving at about a 45 degree shave-angle to the grain of your hair, full-head-on 180 or 0 degrees to the grain (perpendicular) creates too many microcuts and irritation, I'm always shaving at 45 degrees to the grain, it's such a winning strategy I can't speak to it enough, that and keeping the razor clean for each swipe; or only using clean parts of the razor, slowly filling the razor with the cut hair from one side to the other like a typewriter that I clean when it gets full ...
I'm a shea-butter always believer after shaving, and tea tree oil for spot treatments / any knicks but I've gone years without knicks; shea for the shave haha but that stuff is amazing to re-moisturize and dis-infect the microcuts / skin post-shave, I stay away from anything alcohol-based / that I wouldn't eat for my aftershave

aikaveh headcanons ꕤ*.゚
sorry for the absence i wanted to kms <3 anyway, i am perfectly normal and sane about them.
the olive theory, but with strawberries
Kaveh loves strawberries. Whether it's perfume, the actual fruit, smoothie, or scented body lotion, he adores them. He could eat a ton of strawberry-flavored food without ever getting sick of it. When on the other hand, Alhaitham despite them. Not to mention the fact that he's allergic to them. So, when his roommate sprinkles himself in strawberry perfume with strawberry chapstick, he always blames him for trying to commit homicide. Which could be true.
Bonus; Kaveh has a special corner for his strawberry scented stuff: a little drawer in his room, in which is stored his little treasure. Perfume, body mist, moisturiser, chapstick, lipstick, shampoo, and even special Hello Kitty strawberry scented tissues (n/a: i do have those tissues and they're amazing).
alhaitham gives the best to kaveh
Kaveh may always complain about how Alhaitham is a horrible being with him, that he doesn't love him, but it's not true. In fact, Alhaitham is just bad at expressing what he truly feels, and prefers to show him his attention and love in the little acts he does daily. And for that, he always gives Kaveh the best of anything.
When he cooks for both of them, Alhaitham tries to give Kaveh the best pieces of meat, and the better-looking vegetables. He gives him the most comfortable seat when they're at a tavern, or the place with the best view when they go to the movie or concert. He always makes little sacrifices like those for his senior, without noticing. But it doesn't bother Alhaitham: honestly, he likes it better this way.

It happens many times that Kaveh can't find sleep, or just have awful nights. And Alhaitham, as an analyzer, knows when it happens. The blonde seems to exhibit more agitation, frequently sighs, and changes positions frequently. When those things last for too long, Alhaitham just offers a hug to Kaveh, which he usually happily accepts. As his roommate is comfortably snuggled up in his arms, he starts to read out loud the book he holds. Whether it's a history book, philosophy, or a well-known classic, Kaveh can't either complain or despise those precious moments. On the contrary, it brings him nothing but pure comfort and some peace of mind. As his mind gets some rest, he can find sleep. Still in Alhaitham's arms, he slowly falls asleep as he listens to his calm and quiet voice. <3
kaveh's skin
To be honest, Alhaitham is always blown away by Kaveh's skin. It's always smooth, flawless, soft, and so milky. The only remaining things on his skin are beauty marks and perfectly placed moles. Alhaitham knows how many moles he has, and where they are exactly placed on his roommate's body. For example, he knows Kaveh's got one in the middle of his spine. Alhaitham can see it through his shirt, as it's opened right where the mole is (and on other occasions as well).
Kaveh does skincare routines a lot. Every day, actually. For his products and advice, he asks Tighnari. His friend prepares him special oils and cream for his skin and his hair (strawberry scented, ofc).
Anyway, Alhaitham physically and mentally can not get over Kaveh's perfect body and skin. He looks so edible and so delicious to him. He just wants to bite Kaveh everywhere he can and to chew on his more meaty body parts.
hugs, cuddles and sleep
It's no surprise to Kaveh that his roommate hates physical interactions. Usually, when Kaveh's feeling a little touchy, Alhaitham would just walk away. But eventually, he accepted this, tolerating this part of his personality. But it seemed that with time, the Scribe was a little more... needy for Kaveh's affection.
As for sleeping, it doesn't bother Alhaitham if his lover comes cuddling him. He wasn't used to the feeling at first since physical affection was not something he knew throughout his life, but the feeling was warm, pleasant, making him feel fuzzy inside.

You’ll Manage: THE BREAK UP WITH MAKE UP
Let’s discuss breaking up with unnecessary beauty products and the companies that put their corporate profits before their customers’ health. Women are the target market, the dominant demographic, and the driving force behind the 50 billion dollar a year beauty products industry. The products are marketed to them as ‘personal care’, implying that these products are a necessity. Most are not.
While we’ve touched on the health hazards of many beauty products, we should also address the financial impact. One of the biggest drains on a woman’s budget is the constant purchase of beauty products. This expenditure makes money management difficult. Women have billions of advertising and marketing dollars directed at them persuading them to spend money on beauty products and services that they do not need.
Seeing certain products or services as ‘not necessary’ can be challenging. Women have been brainwashed to believe that they actually do ‘need’ these things and ‘must’ have them. (Women are not alone in being brainwashed by advertising: I see plenty of metropolitan men driving big, burly pick-up trucks they’ve seen advertised on television. The closest some of them get to going ‘off road’ is when they pull up to valet parking.)
It’s not just advertising and marketing that reinforce this ‘need’ belief associated with beauty products. It’s the formative experiences of childhood and adolescence: watching your mother, grandmother, sisters, aunts, and friends apply makeup and share advice about it. It’s almost a ‘rite of passage’ which many women include in their memories of what they think of as ‘growing up’ and ‘life’.
What you need to remember as well is that your mother and grandmother were probably very selective about purchasing makeup and parting with their hard-earned and well-managed money. Cosmetics for previous generations were a luxury. Women rarely owned more than two of any particular item: a compact, a tube of lipstick, hand or face cream, and some lotion. That was about it, and they used all of it before they purchased more.
Today, many women can’t imagine living without an abundance of these products. They’re just a part of daily existence—routine and essential.
I have some shocking news for you: food and shelter are essential. Everything else is optional. This seemingly hardcore concept is foreign to many people, but when you endure an extended period of limited resources, you will learn the truth in it. Your life can go on just fine without television, designer labels, ‘accessories’, four-dollar coffees, overpriced manicures, and many beauty products. Again, you’re going to have to do your own personal calculations as to how overspending on beauty products impacts your personal bottom line and your progress toward financial independence.
You also must weigh its health impact, as we’ve discussed. Foundations and powders applied all over your face just clog your pores and set you up to purchase even more products to get your skin clean and healthy again. Be aware that your skin is your body’s largest organ. It absorbs up to 60% of whatever you put on it. When chemicals are absorbed through the pores of your face, those chemicals enter your bloodstream. Think about that.
Note: if you need some color in your cheeks, skip the rouge and exercise on a regular basis. Get the blood flowing. If you want to avoid wrinkles, avoid cigarettes, excessive alcohol consumption, and overexposure to the sun.
Anti-aging creams, face powders and foundations, eye-shadow, lipstick, blushes, mascara, nail polish, nail polish remover, face primer, hair, hair, and more hair products—the list is long and the costs add up, especially for women trying to get ahead. Trim your shopping list.
I support you doing things that make you feel beautiful, that make you feel more confident, that make you feel more empowered. However, I would encourage you to seek those positive feelings through education, exercise, and effort first. Then turn to cosmetics to only enhance the inner beauty and wisdom that are yours. Know your value, then spend your hard-earned money wisely. Remember the words of Bob Marley, who said, ‘A smile is the most beautiful curve on a woman’s body.’ I’d add that it’s also the most beautiful thing she can put on her face.
The good news about this break up is that there really are ‘a lot of other fish in the sea’, i.e., other companies that you can look at and perhaps start a relationship with. These are cosmetics companies often owned and operated by women (a total of 43 as of this writing). They are also companies that have done serious work to offer their customers products at a greater value with higher health and safety standards. Some of these companies include:
Deborah Lippman—Founded by celebrity manicurist Deborah Lippman, the beauty company that bears her name is one of the most renowned in the world.
Charlotte Tilbury—From age 13, Charlotte Tilbury knew she wanted to work in the beauty industry. After training at the Glauca Rossi School of Makeup in London, Tilbury jumped into the world of makeup. Now, her brand is a household name.
Honest Beauty—Actress Jessica Alba founded Honest Beauty when she saw a need for responsible, quality products with maximum ingredient transparency.
Edible Beauty—The naturopath and nutritionist Anna Mitsios launched Edible Beauty with the sole intention of creating a luxury botanic brand that is equally safe and effective. Anna’s strong belief in the natural power of herbs is evident in her formulas.
It’s A 10 Haircare—Founder Carolyn Aronson made history as the CEO of the first indie hair care brand to land a national Super Bowl ad. She also founded Kyana’s Dream Foundation (in her daughter’s honor) which focuses on providing emergency response for children in schools.
AveSeena—After spending 20 years researching the effects of estrogenic and endocrine disrupting chemicals on the immune system, Dr. Ebru Karpuzoglu decided to pour her scientific discoveries into a 100% naturederived skin care brand.
MaBrook & Co—In 2014, Aliya Dhalla launched her brand of 100% natural and aluminum-free deodorant. The Clean Deodorant fully harnesses the benefits of activated charcoal, baking soda, and sweet floral scents.
Fact—Founder Cassy Burnside has launched her brand of Paleo-friendly and cruelty-free skin care products that are packaged and formulated for women on the go.
Aphorism Skincare—After battling a rare but curable cancer, Urvashi Singh set out on a journey to research the links between the toxic chemicals in cosmetics and disease triggers. This led her to launch a luxurious line of non-toxic skin care products.
Also consider Joshua Onysko’s Pangea Organics, Dr. David Bronner’s Magic Soaps, Greg Starkman’s Innersense, and Olown N’djotehala’s Alaffie. These are just a few companies to consider. Do your own research and find those that are best for you.
It’s important to look at the beauty industry in political terms as well. While women purchase the vast majority of beauty products sold around the world and are often featured in the advertising and promotional campaigns for these products, they are vastly underrepresented in the executive ranks of these companies. As of this writing, women comprise less than 25% of the Boards of Directors of major beauty companies, and only 24% of their executive teams. Only 23 of the 500 largest cosmetics companies in the world have a woman as their CEO. The 6 most dominant corporations in the beauty industry all have men as CEO. These include L’Oreal, Estee Lauder, MAC, and Revlon.
A question you might ask yourself is this: with so many qualified female executives out there, why wouldn’t the Board of Directors and the shareholders put a woman in charge of a company that sells most of its products to women?
It’s important to remember that with beauty products—and all your purchasing choices—your dollars are your vote. Your dollars are your voice. In order to make informed choices, it’s important to know which corporation owns your favorite brand or brands of makeup. There are reasons for this: one is to determine if a company is prioritizing the health of its customers. Another is to determine if a particular company is being a good corporate citizen.
Are they building strong communities by paying their employees fairly? Is their philosophy inclusive and their workforce diverse, both on the assembly line and in the executive ranks? Do they invest in a sustainable future? Are they attentive to their environmental footprint with regards to manufacturing, packaging, and distribution? Do they have ‘green’ goals? Do they participate consistently in charitable giving? (Not just feel-good publicity campaigns around charity events.)
It’s also important to know if a company is selling two almost identical products, but marketing and pricing one ‘brand’ differently—and pricing it more expensively— than the other (the ‘drugstore brand’ and the ‘luxury store’ brand.) Some large corporations do this—produce essentially the same product and market it as two different products—to reach more customers in different demographics, saving the company money on production costs. Many times, only scents, textures, or packaging differentiate the products. This is the reason, for example, that Lancome Eau Micellaire Douceur and L’Oréal Paris Skin Perfection 3 in 1 Purifying Micellar Solution are almost identical products. The same corporate owner manufactures them with the same active ingredients. Only different ‘brand names’ and packaging separate the two in the eyes of the consumer.
It is true that some high-end products are made using more expensive ingredients and innovative technologies. However, the truth is they usually cost more because people expect expensive products to work much better than inexpensive ones and are, therefore, willing to pay more for them.
So, before you spend lots of money on a luxury product, do a little research on the company and its line. Compare the luxury product line’s ingredients to those of their less expensive sister brands. Make an objective, informed determination if the difference in the ingredients is really worth the difference in price. To make your initial research easier, we’ve provided a starter list of ‘who owns what’ in the cosmetics industry in an appendix in the back of this book. It is not comprehensive, and the information may change as companies buy and sell brands, but it will give you a bird’s eye view of the landscape.
Having this information will preserve your health, encourage good corporate governance, and save you money. Hopefully, this will also help you see beauty products for what they are: a big, profitable industry.

The Golden State native shares the sustainable products she’s loving and what she’s growing in her garden

“I grew up outdoors,” says Nikki Reed, the multihyphenate actor, screenwriter, singer/songwriter, designer and environmental activist. “We didn’t have a lot of money, so nature was our inspiration and place to play. I bounced back and forth between a crowded residential neighborhood and a tiny Venice home by the boardwalk.”
Reed, a native Californian started her sustainable apparel and accessories brand, BaYou With Love in 2017, but in her latest project, she is teaming up with lifestyle clothing brand UpWest. To coincide with Earth Month, the longtime environmental advocate and the comfy-casualwear label have designed a T-shirt capsule, the net proceeds of which will benefit, through June, the eco-minded nonprofit that bears the name of Reed’s husband, fellow actor Ian Somerhalder.
Made with fabric crafted from recycled bottles, the men’s and women’s tees feature statement-making slogans (such as “Don’t Trash My Mother”), come in relaxed fits in neutral colors, and will contribute in part to the Ian Somerhalder Foundation’s commitment to providing public outreach, education and grants in support of all things environmental, including climate issues.
We asked the entrepreneur to share some of the sustainable brands she can’t live without, what she’s currently growing in her garden at home, and her personal rituals for appreciating the natural world around her.
What ignited your passion for the environment? It all started with animal rescue. I grew up in a household that welcomed any living thing, so we had a tremendous amount of love and compassion in our home. As I got older, I started to recognize the interconnection between humans, the earth and animals. It’s impossible to care about only one if you really think about it.
Do you have a personal ritual for expressing gratitude to Mother Earth? I have quiet time with a cup or two of tea every morning. I try to take that time to set up my day, get organized and stay grateful. I have been going on nature walks with my little one every day, which always brings so much joy. Funny how we all feel better when we’re more connected to nature.
What do you appreciate most about this state’s natural beauty? I have always loved animals, the outdoors, the ocean, hiking. Nature is the backbone of everything I create with my company, BaYou With Love, and through my photography for the company, I strive to find beauty in places we often overlook.
Are there other Californians championing the environment who inspire you? My dear friend Shai Woodley is just a force. There is no one with her level of passion and commitment, and I’m inspired by her daily.
How much do you consider yourself a city girl? I moved out of the city about six years ago, and it was the best choice I’ve ever made. It’s a lifestyle commitment, meaning you’re far away from everything, including work, but it’s worth the extra travel time. I want to be away from cell towers and 5G. I want to smell fresh air. I don’t miss the sounds of honking cars and sirens.
What are you growing in your home garden? We have edible wildflowers in one box, and kale, chard, tomatoes and lettuce on the other side. We also have a few lemon trees and rosemary bushes, which smell so nice.
Is there a beach, hike or park you miss most right now? I love every beach and hiking trail. When I was younger, I spent a lot of time with my brother, surfing at Point Dume Beach, but I haven’t been in years. I owe Point Dume a visit.
What attracted you to UpWest as a partner? What they make is so beautiful. Cozy, comfy, outdoor-chic is my dream wardrobe. Diving a little deeper, I will say that at this stage in my life I only want to collaborate with brands who are morally aligned with my vision for a sustainable future in fashion. I love working with companies that strive to bring sustainability into their brand. I believe in progress, not perfection, and I think it is important for those of us who truly care about the planet to applaud incremental change. I think we can all learn from each other, and I really appreciate the UpWest team for caring so deeply about my need for recycled fabrics and materials in this collaboration.
What’s the philosophy behind the Ian Somerhalder Foundation? The mission of the foundation is to empower our youth, and educate people to make changes in their lifestyle which will benefit the environment!
How does BaYou With Love practice sustainability? We use all recycled gold, specifically recycled gold found in technology through our partnership with Dell. We produce everything in Los Angeles, so our carbon footprint is drastically reduced. We use a factory that recycles all of their water, which is huge for us. We are also conscious of our sourcing. We try to use stones only mined with sustainable practices, and we also give our customers the option to go with a diamond grown above ground using solar energy in California!
Which recent BaYou With Love item are you currently obsessed with? Gah! Everything. But I am biased, because I design it all. I love the Gold Ball Huggies, because I am a sucker for an everyday piece you never have to take off. I love our textured wedding bands, and our Opal Drop Pendant Earrings.
What other accessories or clothing have you been staying comfortable in lately? I LOVE the chambray set from UpWest! Perfect for lounging and sitting in front of my computer, writing. And BaYou With Love is gearing up to launch sustainable yoga apparel, so I’ve been living in that as well!
How about sustainable brands for children, or for pets? In addition to the BaYou With Love organic baby clothes we launched last year, my go-to’s include Summer & Storm, and 12|12! Found My Animal is my favorite line for pets!
Which skincare, haircare or cosmetics brands do you rely on? I love Plantfolk, Beautycounter and Poppy & Someday. I love being able to pronounce all of the ingredients in the products I put on my face and body! I subscribe to the belief that we should be as conscious of skin’s health as we are of our internal health. People have started prioritizing eating local or organic when they can, which is amazing, but I think we should also consider what we are putting on our skin as well!
What are other ways to keep the environment in mind when online shopping? Shopping local is one great way to consider the planet. Also searching for brands that use eco-friendly packaging, or even better, no inside packaging! You can also write to your favorite online retailers with ideas for how to minimize waste!
What are your must-have household products? I use vinegar for almost everything cleaning-related. I also love adding essential oils to water for the added benefits as well as scent. I love a linen company called Dazed But Amazed for my bedding. The founder [Jes Saddington] is amazing, and her hand-dyed linens are spectacular. I make my own candles using old ceramic cups my grandmother made when she was still working as a ceramicist. I love repurposing vintage pieces.
Any other eco-conscious habits at home? I’m conscious of water, so I don’t leave the tap running as I wash dishes. I do all of our laundry on speed cycle. Composting is big in this household! We shop from a local farm for all veggies, which helps minimize plastic use! And of course we bring our own bags!
