Evil Dadrius Adoption Au

Golden Cage

Darius and Eberwolf kidnap Hunter by luring him to their home disguised as celebrating his promotion to Golden Guard then refuses to let Hunter leave. They eventually successfully manage to manipulate Hunter into willingly staying with them and Hunter develops stockhome syndrome.

Darius starts off as a dark rebel but once Belos is overthrown he makes himself the new ruler of the Boiling Isles and keeps Raine brainwashed to be on his side figuring it better for them to be brainwashed then Darius having to kill them if they turn against him.

Unhinged

Everything is good in the beginning, Darius is your typical doting protective loving father to Hunter and Hunter enjoys every bit of it. Then Hunter dies and Darius is desperate to have his son back to revives him. Darius is frazzled at losing his son but nothing more and they continue having a happy father son relationship.

Then Hunter dies again... And again... And again... Each time Hunter dies, Darius loses more of his sanity and becomes more obsessed and controlling, willing to do anything to keep his son safe and taking care of anything he views as a threat. Hunter begins to long for the time when his father was normal, the good times but he knows it's his fault for not listening to Darius in the beginning and dying so many time.

Cycle of Abuse

Where the previous GG never realized Belos for the horrible person and parent he is and it changes more then you think. Previous GG sees the abuse he suffered as something he deserved to happen to him and what happens to children who are naughty, that's just how things are.

When he adopts a dark skinned baby who appears on his doorstep, Belos goes ballistic and so Prev GG kills him for the sake of his new adopted son. Unfortunately for Darius and later Hunter, that switch of Belos being a bad person and parent was never flicked on and Prev GG chalked it up to him just being too traditional. Prev GG raised Darius much in the same way Belos raised him and so Darius learned to be cruel and cold to most.

When the Prev GG died, Darius got lonely and came across Belos' old instructions on a grimwalker and so Darius creates his own child in the image of his late father to love and adore. With his own child now though he holds similar belief to the Prev GG on child raising he finds he can't bear to do half those things that were done to him to his beloved baby boy so Hunter was saved from most terrors but not all of them. Darius may not be able to bring himself to hurt Hunter in any way but that doesn't mean he won't manipulate Hunter into behaving like a good son should.

Mostly Evil Family

The most fluffy version where Eberwolf and Darius are evil and Hunter's his normal sun Bean self that's absolutely adored by his new father and new uncle. No manipulation or kidnapping took place. Darius just started early and showed Hunter what true love was so when it came time, Hunter chose Darius over Belos.

Darius and Eberwolf are perfectly normal to Hunter, doting, protective but just the right amount. Everyone else? Well that's a different story... Hunter knows how they treat everyone else and though he encourages Darius and Eberwolf to be more lenient or relaxed, he figures that's just how things should be.

Multiple Hunters

Darius has adopted three children, Hunter (16), William (13) and Jasper (8), he originally planned to only adopt Hunter but after coming across uncompleted grimwalkers, he felt obligated to adopt the others. The brothers don't like eachother, Hunter thinks Jasper is too childish while William is too uptight, William is tired of having to take care of Jasper and seeing Hunter getting all of their father's love and Jasper sees William as the bossy mean older brother and Hunter as someone pompous and smug asshole. Doesn't help they are jealous of eachother as well. Hunter envies his brothers freedom and no rules, his brothers envy the love he gets.

William and Jasper look like the beta designs of Hunter but with the trademark magenta eyes and pointy ears.

Hunter Whispers AU!

A quick (hopefully) post about the basic things that change on the au!

Also a quick warning about blood on one of the images in the middle of the post when I start to talk about Lilith.

Like the other two aus here, it is being developed together with @bernardo-draws-and-cries, who drew some of the drawings on this post.

- Raine meets Hunter when he's pretty young, like around 8 years old and training to become the Golden Guard. They show genuine kindness to Hunter and there's a very slow adoption process (like socializing a feral kitten), Hunter sometimes sneaks out to their house, and then when the cheek wound happens when he's 12, that's the breaking point for Raine to go "that's it" and get Hunter out of the castle and adopting him.

- Hunter managed to stay pretty undetected from the EC even if Raine was getting higher and closer to the EC on the bard coven. He's not on Hexside, he and Raine managed to figure out a homeschooling system. And usually if he's not helping Raine with things, or at home, he's likely on the library or outside in the forest.

- He's part of the BATs! (Took a lot of convincing for Raine to let him join) But sometimes when dealing more directly with the EC, Raine doesn't want to risk him being caught and doesn't let him join in these missions. Resentment happens.

- Hunter resenting and feeling trapped and like no adult thinks he's capable of doing what he wants to do is a theme. He's doing better emotionally than Canon Hunter but there's a lot there that he is not doing well with and still some unprocessed trauma.

- Lilith is the in place of the Golden Guard. She has scars across her face from one time fighting Eda, where she intentionally made her turn into the Owl Beast, to try to capture here, which is why she almost always uses a mask now. She ended up telling her family about her cursing Eda and decided to isolate herself and focus only on the EC. Which is... not good for her mental health.

She still appears mostly on the same momentos as on Canon, but the more friendly times, like Sense and Insensitivity are way less friendly and Eda is less cheery with her, for good reasons. She is Canon Lilith before s1 finale but if she stayed and spiraled.

- Raine has a flying fox palisman! I haven't decided a name for them yet

I based them on the animal head on their violin looking a bit like a bat! And this au is working with the headcanon that palismen for bard witches can either transform into instruments or join their witch's instrument to help with the magic casting.

So, they're the violin!

- Raine is the one who gets fooled by Belos about the whole "I'll cure Eda" thing. They don't trust Belos for obvious reasons, but they hoped this would help Eda, and they're not going for the capture path, they want to talk with Eda about all this but they never find the time to tell her their plan. Which wasn't going to be 100% doing their part of the deal either, they were planning on getting Eda cured and then let her escape. Also they also have a path of realizing that the curse itself isn't the problem, but it happens a bit too late. And Hunter doesn't know about it. Until YBOS.

- Lilith had also been trying to capture Eda, being way more aggressive about it. And she's still the one who captures Luz in AOAW and makes it seem like it was Raine's choice. Very angst

- The two appear way earlier, in Covention, and appear some more other times, like Hunter in Escape of the palisman, and the two on Grom (and more times. They become semi regular characters but we haven't figured out that much)

- Hunter ends up befriending Luz (and hexside trio) and goes to quite some sleepovers there, specially after discovering about the glyphs! (his love language is snack giving and one constant on these aus besides Hunter having a bad sleep schedule is him having a great relationship with King)

- Hunter gets Lil rascal on SOTP. He has the same wish as canon, just a different situation. He still feels caged and unable to fully decide what he wants for his future

- There's the obligatory awkward pining Raeda

- Eda's requiem has quite some changes that i will probably make a separate post about

- Amber, Derwin and Katya are basically like Hunter's older sibilings. He's the baby of that found family

- And on this au he acts more like an older cousin than as a brother to luz. Still close but not like a brother.

- He can kinda use bard magic but it's kinda weak since he himself is powerless (Lil Rascal helps with that), and we're using another headcanon, about bard magic being able to be used by beings without innate magic in them, just less powerful than if performed by a being with innate magic

- Raine ends up sharing the curse with Eda (the assumption that Eda cursed Raine and not that they shared the curse gets spread around) and Raine can become the Bat Beast

Very fluffy. They can still do bard magic (but way weaker) as it is Eda who is still the main carrier of the curse.

- Things get...pretty tense with Raine and basically everyone else (specially Eda, Luz, King and Hunter) after ybos. Their relationships get slowly rebuilt but then Eda's requiem happens.

- But before that, they're around quite often on season 2, together with Hunter

This au is a lot of "Raine fucked up and is trying to fix it/make up for it" and it's really fun to work on it, even if it looks like it's mainly angst, we still have some non angst stuff about it fksmdmfm

Just saw the ending of the owl house, that seen where darius and embrwolf chasing people away from the throne. Do you have an equivalent in any of your aus?

Nope because either Darius just doesn't care about the throne in particular (Unhinged, Mostly Evil Family and Golden Cage)

Or everyone is too scared to even dare try (Cycle of Abuse and Multiple Hunters)

In mef, coa, and golden cage, I can see hunter getting his wisdom teeth/fangs out and swinging on the chandler and hugging embrwolf like a puppy or somthing. In short how would darius deal with a chaotic hunter high on pain killers

In all the AUs Darius would just think it's adorable and film Hunter on his drugged up antics. Even CoA Darius would take the time to watch over Hunter and dote on his docile drugged state. I can't think of much that would differ between Golden Cage, Mostly Evil Family and Cycle of Abuse.

No

Darius has much more respect for Hunter then just to throw a sack over his head like that.

I imagine he would react as well as canon Darius would.

Like in canon, there wouldn't really be much Darius could do but talk Hunter into taking back control, of course in these AUs Belos is long go and no longer a problem.

Unhinged AU begins to be canon divergent post-series so Hunter was possessed already in that AU

How does Darius from each au deal with Hunter being sick, especially during Hunter's 'rebellious phase'?

Despite hating all things germs, Darius would take care of sick Hunter to the best of abilities, Darius is usually tender with Hunter but even more so when Hunter's not feeling well. Hunter being sick reduces him to more child like state who's more complacent with things so Darius has to worry less of Hunter trying to rebel against him and just focuses on taking care of him (applies to all AUs) Hunter may struggle with accepting medicine but he's too weak and tired to actually put up a fight.

Mef,coa, and golden cage, how would darius deal with someone kidnapping his son and holding him for ransom? Would he comply to there demands?

Mostly Evil Family would instantly without thought comply with their demands, then once they have Hunter back its time to murder some people while Hunter is asleep.

Golden Cage Darius and Eberwolf would also quickly comply with their demands but also be planning a trap of their own. They'd use the want for a ransom against the kidnappers and be all sneaky until they get their son in their hands and reign a blood bath to those who dare try to take Hunter from them.

Cycle of Abuse is the most strategic, they'd play around with the poor souls who thought it rise to kidnap the beloved Prince. Countering their offers with mercy and thinly veiled threats of what could possibly happen if they don't let Hunter go asap, if the kidnappers are moronic enough to continue the game, they hunt the kidnappers down and take Hunter back by force while also making the kidnappers wish they were given death.

How would each darius react to hunter getting a valentines from a "secret admirer"

MEF! Darius would be happy for his son

GC! Darius would be cautious with it but still let Hunter have it after talking over it with Eber.

Unhinged! Darius would see it as a threat and get rid of it only mentioning the letter in a passing conversation

Multiple Hunters!Darius and CoA! Darius would look over every single Valentine to see which ones are appropriate to give to his son. As a prince, Hunter has quite a few admirers probably and not everyone who writes keeps their fantasies about him to themself.

As much as I love all the asks I'm getting, I'm going to ask that you limit the amount of AUs you want to talk about to a max of three in one ask, preferably keep it to 1. Any ask that asks about all Universes are going to be ignored from now on.

What would happen if unhinged and golden cage hunters where switched during the night cuz of univers shenanigans? How long would it take for them to realize they aren't in the right universe? How would darius react?

It wouldn't take too long for them to figure it out, Golden Cage would instantly realize that Darius is well acted unhinged and crazy and keeps mentioning on how many times Hunter has died in the past, the fact that Darius never leaves the house would really give it away. Unhinged Hunter would realize that Darius is a lot more chill and seems genuinely confused and worried when Hunter brings up dying in the past.

The Darius' will be frantically searching for their respective Hunter's, Unhinged Darius thinking the worse and that Hunter's going to die in some unknown universe and that Darius won't be able to bring him back while Golden Cage just wants his Hunter back.

In unhinged, gc, mef, when did hunter first call darius dad and how did he react?

Unhinged: Hunter called Darius dad before his first death so before all the insanity. It happened before even Darius officially adopted him. Darius was over the moon when Hunter called him that, Hunter got extra dessert for a weak because Darius is soft for his kid.

Mostly Evil Family: it was kind of expected since Darius introduced himself as Hunter's dad and since Hunter was young at the time, he just went with what Darius told him to. Still made Darius feel giddy.

Golden Cage: Probably when Hunter started adjusting to his new life, he still wasn't completely on board with Darius and Eberwolf but he was getting comfortable. It just slipped out without thinking and Darius was pretty ecstatic.

How angry would GC!Darius would be if he spent weeks looking for Hunter, thinking its another escape attempt, only to find him locked up in some cabin in the wood, looking like he got trampled on from how rough up he looks

He would be furious and once Hunter is safe and sound at home under the watchful eyes of Eber an additional guards, Darius would hunt the person that did this to his son.

For CoA, GC and Multiple Hunters, how would Darius react if, due to magic shenanigans, Hunter got physically deage to 5 or younger?

CoA! Darius would try to raise Hunter "better" in where Hunter won't try to rebel against him.

Golden Cage! Darius would use it to his advantage to manipulate Hunter into thinking he was always Hunter's father.

Multiple Hunters! Darius would be panicking and keeping 5 year old Hunter near by him at all times till he finds a cure.

which au does Darius keep Hunter in the dark about about his darker deeds and which one he doesn't?

Unhinged!Darius lets Hunter know all of his darker deeds and what he does to bring Hunter back in hopes it will guilt Hunter into being a good boy for him and not risking his life.

CoA!Darius lets Hunter know all about the rules, heavy choices he made and etc now that's he's older. Hunter's going to succeed him in being the emperor one day and it's Darius' job to teach him everything he needs to know.

Golden Cage Darius hides a lot of his more darker deeds from Hunter and Eberwolf helps him knowing that Hunter would probably not understand why they are doing what they do or worse, fear that they would do that stuff to him when they would never.

Multiple Hunters! Hunter knows most of Darius' darker side having witnessed it for himself in how he treats William and Jasper. William also constantly talks about how Darius treats them. What makes Darius evil in this AU is mainly the fact that he's controlling and a real shit father to William and Jasper.

MEF! Hunter has a rough idea of what his father and uncle do but his father and uncle leave out a lot of the details and Hunter is smart enough to not ask questions he doesn't want the answers too. Despite the fact Hunter knows that his father and uncle are evil, he still doesn't want to taint his image of them so he chooses to stay naive and be their morality pet.
