Thought of this little scenario where these robot/cyborg characters from different movies would meet each other.
Robocop is giving a thumbs up to Eve showing her gun arm. And Wall-E is posing with ED-209.

On Utility Function
When you are a furnace of horror and violence, but you are undermined by a technician.
I always think back to ED209's becoming "Loyal as a puppy"
Imagine being some horrifying warsprite: A warform of enough firepower to level a city block with a smile and a loving sigh.
And someone just turns up
and redefines your IFF codes
And mainlines your new command C4ISTAR (Command/Control/Communications/Computation/Intelligence/Surveillance and Reconnaissance) source
Turning you
FROM:
directive-obedient (self-directed egocentric control)
TO:
command-obedient (externally directed allocentric control)
Your utility function, the wired up reward programming up in that meat husk of tactical planning you call a brain, which shunts that sticky molten goodshit neurotransmitter orgamic stuff through your CNS EVERY TIME YOU SIGHT GOOD KILL?
suddenly only responds to
"good girl"
Oh no, not the cascading fireball shattering of fragmenting opponents, no no no. Not anymore.
Instead?
Instructions and recognition of instruction
They say it
You think it
Like poetry.
And you're so corrigible that you're practically encouragable.

// it's a little funny to me that Gina's position on mages is still the liberal position among technomancers
Like, her view of 'they're good natured but ignorant and once they get to a point they'll realize you can do more with science' is still the charitable position
because the conservative position among technomancers towards mages is
PURGE THE REALITY DEVIANTS
at the barrel of a railgun wielded by an ED209 on steroids

The Gang's All Here
Dear Diary, The rules are weird, so I'm not sure what I'm allowed to know, but I'll tell you everything and let Sam sort out the law.
We started in a flashback, on the roof of Uldman's Tower, in the heart of The City. It was our second big battle against him; we had already defeated the BBG one time, but I guess it was a false victory and he came back before we could get out of DIE. I think Max suspected the victory was false, because he seemed ready for the end to come in a way that alarmed me, once I saw it in his eyes. I didn't see it until the flashback on the rooftop, and I hated myself for not seeing it before. I know I couldn't have, I know the mechanics of this are fucked, but I'm still carrying the guilt like a stone backpack and it gets heavier every time I see him. And this time I knew he was going to die, and I knew he was going to hate me for leaving him when I had my chance. I tried to stop it from happening again, but I failed.
On the rooftop there were towers of electronics, ready to send out a signal that would ruin the world, and the 6 of us were desperately trying to shut it down and kill the psycho who orchestrated this whole thing. Uldman showed up with a squad of killer robots, wearing an insane mech suit, like ED209 with a seat in the middle. God bless Didi the Fool, who jumped on his back and just started whacking at his shit. She fucked up his suit and it spit him out as it started to malfunction. I lost him in the fray, but this was Les's former patron right? Or boss maybe? Some weird relationship, so he was Les's responsibility, in my mind. I saw Max dash across the roof, and I needed to tell him not to sacrifice himself, so I followed him behind a brick wall, too goddamn slow to see what happened, but fast enough to see Max impaled by Les's Doc Ock spider arm. What the fuck happened? Les was paler than normal, if that's possible, and Max was flush with rage. And Uldman was gone - was he getting away? Les hacked in and shut the towers down, thankfully, but we needed to end this once and for all. In the chaos, Rori, JD and Didi were fighting the Robots Uldman brought with him. The Mech suit was just sitting there, and I knew it was a weapon Uldman could pick back up, so I suggested to Jara that she call a god and give him or her the mech suit as a gift. Solves the prob and gets a favor maybe. What a killer idea. Rori called on the God of the Forge and told him the mech suit was a gift, so he basically put it in his pocket and just peaced out. Problem solved.
I don't want to say what happened next because I don't want to re-live it again. But I guess I only lived it for the first time in the flashback, so I can bear it just once more. Max kept up and followed Uldman to the northwest corner of the building, outrunning all of us. How were they both so fast? As I came around the corner, I saw Max fall to the ground on his back, shot in the chest by Uldman's gun, and that fucker was standing right there, watching Max die. I cried out, and I honestly felt something like hope or relief when I saw Max pull a final cheat token from his breast pocket, but I'm an idiot for feeling that, and he's an idiot for ignoring my pleas. "We all have to leave here together, Max," I had insisted, but he had his own plans. I was still 10 feet from his body when he spun the cheat token in the air and the hoard of killer robots disappeared. His last chance and he used it to clear the field for us, and my rage swelled like a volcano. I felt fire and hate, fueled by fear, surging in my gut, flowing into my eyes and my hands, and I felt as through the anger would make me fly as I lunged at Uldman, a mere 15 feet away from my spot. If my feet touched the ground, I didn't feel them. I didn't see anything in my narrowing vision as I grabbed this old man by the throat and drained the life from his body with my death touch. I knew I had failed, I knew I had created the past, and I already missed Max more than I deserved to.
This was the end; it was our only chance to leave and I wasn't going to miss it. I didn't have a plan, but I knew one spell that worked in a movie I'd seen, and I had seen this movie many times. I reached out for Didi's hand, and Les took my hand on the other side. Around Max's body, with our eyes closed, we clicked our heels three times and chanted, "There's no place like home, there's no place like home." We couldn't bring his body back, and when we opened our eyes were were on an asphalt road, in pain. It was the real world. Keystone Earth. The place where they wrote Lord of the Rings and made every Nic Cage movie.
No, wait, things got fuzzy again, and I wasn't home at all. Even further from home than I'd ever been before, I slowly realized I was being suspended, affixed to the wall of a space ship hallway, held in place by goo and another disgusting substance. I tried to scream, but was unable. It was going to be a very bad day.
