edauletta: I found another stack of old photos. This was the first time we toured Europe in 2003 with @theused. We where staying at what we found out was a legendary rock hotel called @thecolumbialondon fun fact. This night, in this picture. We where all hanging out at the hotel bar with The All American Rejects and The Yea Yea Yeas. Everyone wasn’t as big then. All three bands released records that year that propelled them to where they are today. It was a crazy time. I have video of this tour and evening in question 🤫. . We all paid our dues on that tour.

Director of the Giovanni Armenise-Harvard Foundation

Job Summary

The Giovanni Armenise Harvard Foundation, was established in 1996 with a gift from Giovanni Armenise that provides ongoing financial support in the form of an endowment and is responsible for supporting basic science research programs that are of benefit to Harvard Medical School (HMS) and foremost research institutions in Italy. The mission of the Foundation is to establish multidisciplinary, basic science research and opportunities for scientific collaboration that will support leading scientists at HMS and in Italy, in the pursuit of knowledge and scientific discovery for the benefit of humankind in the fields of medicine and agriculture. The HMS Dean is President of the Foundation and Count Giampiero Auletta is Chairman of the Board.

Position Description

Program Oversight:

This role will be responsible for directing and developing the programmatic and operational strategy for the Giovanni Armenise Harvard Foundation.

Oversee Program hiring and reappointments.

Oversee and manage all staff-related HR concerns.

Public Relations and Communications:

The Executive Director must maintain a strong relationship with the family of the Foundation’s original donor.

Work with the Dean and scientific leadership of HMS, as well as Italian scientific leadership, to build the Foundation’s strategy, and to design, implement and maintain its scientific programs and activities, including promoting our programs in the U.S. and abroad.

Oversee the development and implementation of all communications strategy.

The ED promotes the Armenise Foundation, influences partnerships and engages in opportunities to increase awareness and advance the mission, vision and strategic priorities of the foundation.

Budgeting and Finance:

This role has fiduciary responsibility for the Foundation’s approximately $3.5M annual budget and reports both programmatic and financial activities to and seeks approval from the Board of Trustees. Along with the fiduciary responsibility comes the need to work closely with the HMS Finance Office.

The ED is responsible for developing and monitoring budgets in alignment with strategic priorities that foster long-term financial sustainability.

The ED will develop financial plans and projections and should be capable of establishing and overseeing innovative structures to administer research activity at HMS and in Italy.

Conferences and Events:

Oversee, supervise, manage and work with direct reports on conferences and events communications.

Oversees Program-hosted events, workshops, and conferences.

Development:

This role requires a focus on fundraising, in partnership with the HMS Alumni Affairs and Development office, in order to fund new and expand existing programs.

Oversee communications and meetings with Program donors.

Identify and meet with new potential donors and develop and support opportunities.

Staff Management:

Supervises 3 Direct reports (this number is subject to change).

Must be comfortable supervising a team of individuals working remotely and fostering a close nit working relationship.

Ability to recruit and organize groups of volunteers. The Foundation has a small paid staff and relies heavily on volunteers to run its programs both in the U.S. and in Italy.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required.

8+ years of administrative management experience.

Supervisory experience.

Additional Qualifications and Skills

Master's degree preferred.

A track record in developing and maintaining strong, professional relationships with existing and potential donors.

Experience in designing, implementing and promoting innovative programs in an academic biomedical setting.

Ability to operate independently with a strong sense of self-management.

Regular international travel is required, as well as occasional travel within the U.S. The person in this role must feel comfortable in international settings, and knowledge of Italian academia (particularly in science) is highly desirable.

The ability to speak Italian is desirable.

This individual needs to excel in working and communicating with challenging personalities in both academic and non-academic settings and should feel confident leading discussions and working with basic biomedical scientists at all levels, as well as representing the Foundation at international meetings.

This person should be culturally sensitive, self-motivated, and organized, with the ability to bring people together across academic and cultural boundaries. An important goal will be to continue to develop our research community of grantees, in and between the U.S. and Italy.

Work Format Details

This position is based in Boston, but the work may be done primarily remote. Any remote work must be performed in a state in which Harvard is registered to do business (CA*, CT, GA, IL, MA, MD, ME, NH, NJ, NY, RI, VA, VT, and WA). Individual flexible and remote work options for this role will be discussed during the interview process. *Note: Harvard employees working in California must be exempt.

Ieri mattina è passata Susanna e mi ha parlato di un po’ di cose. Mi consiglia di mettermi subito sotto per fare l’esame di stato (i agree, non l’avrei voluto fare proprio ma se non lo faccio ora non lo farò mai più) e di provare a cercare dei master/scuole di specializzazione/corsi bim vari che mi aiuterebbero ad avere più punteggio in eventuali concorsi a cui poter fare domanda. Per quanto riguarda lavorare, mi dice che devo scegliere che campo mi interessa e provare a contattare aziende/studi. Nello studio in cui sta lei si è appena licenziata una ragazza quindi avrebbero uno spazio libero e comunque l’ingnere capo assume tranquillamente gli appena laureati (ho scoperto che è qui che va una ragazza di un anno meno il mio che ultimamente vedevo prendere il treno la sera quando io arrivavo). Dice che può parlare lei per ‘consigliarmi’ all’ingegnere (così hanno fatto con lei). E’ una cosa buona questa, su questo mi sono convinta. Potrei iniziare già a lavorare, ad imparare qualcosa di serio e anche a mettere da parte dei soldi. Non penso sia quello che vorrò continuare a fare nei prossimi anni ma almeno lo provo. Non so cosa fare. Lei è decisa della sua strada, ora ha pure il ragazzo e sa che cercheranno anche casa insieme e che magari si sposano presto. Tutte ste storie che appena raggiungi i 30 anni devi omologarti alla società mi fanno salire un nodo in gola. Io voglio solo vivere la mia vita. Non lo so di cosa ho bisogno, di sicuro non farò diventare la carriera la mia vita. Lavorare lo vedo solo come un bisogno dovuto alla società capitalistica in cui mi trovo (se non mi piacerà il lavoro non è la fine del mondo, e se mi piacerà non lo farò diventare la mia intera personalità). 

Ieri ho parlato per un po’ anche con Cate, mi ha solo dato dei piccoli life updates prima che ci vediamo con Bobba quando tornerà dalla missione, e a quanto pare ho aiutato un sacco Benedetto a passare gli esami, però ora non le sta parlando perché ha chiuso con lui riguardo la cosa tra loro due e spero davvero che ritornino a parlare normalmente, si vede che sono sulla stessa lunghezza d’onda e io tifo per loro. Mi ha anche detto che non andrà in missione ad aprile ma che farà quella in estate, e anzi, mi ha chiesto se vado con lei!! Appena saprò qualcosa di ufficiale girerò subito le notizie a Daniele e lo convinco!

Nei giorni scorsi ho fatto gli auguri ad ile il giorno dopo il suo compleanno (le ho promesso delle foto stampate in compenso) e mi ha solo detto che ci sentiremo nei prossimi giorni. Io ora sono in una fase di stallo, ho bisogno di qualcosa che mi occupi le giornate e che sia utile e produttivo per me. L’esame di stato sarà verso giugno e io vorrei iniziare a studiare per questo, ovvero vorrei iniziare a vedermi con qualcuno per studiare. Ormai dopo quell’incubo che è stato fare da sola il progetto per la parte individuale di restauro mi inizio a sentire persa e demotivata se non studio con qualcuno. Questo qualcuno avrei voluto che fosse ile e dovrei riuscire a organizzarmi con lei dato che starà fissa nella città. Avrei voluto studiare anche con Daniele. Quando sto con lui mi fa capire che vuole passare del tempo con me, appena ci separiamo dalla vista un po’ scompare. Ho provato a scrivergli e a rimanere abbastanza costante nel sentirmi con lui, per quanto i messaggi siano corti e parliamo di cose inutili, ma ho intenzione di farlo rimanere nella mia vita e quindi quest’ansia che ho di disturbarlo o di sembrare pesante ed annoying la devo calmare. Stamattina ho ordinato i libri da Amazon da cui si studia per l’esame e appena li avrò contatterò entrambi e chiederò di vederci e metteremo su un piano di battaglia e studieremo insieme. Con Daniele so già che sarà un problema vederci, perché nella città dell’uni che è più o meno a metà strada tra le nostre città non abbiamo più l’appoggio dell’ auletta, ma d’altra parte ci stiamo avvicinando ai mesi più caldi (anche se sti giorni è pieno inverno) e quindi non dovrebbero esserci problemi a studiare nell’atrio scoperto (unico posto dove puoi parlare e studiare). L’ultima cosa che mi ha detto prima che mi lasciasse in stazione era tipo ‘noi dobbiamo andare al poke anche’ e qualcosa simile a ‘troviamo un pretesto per vederci e andiamo’. Questa cosa mi ha fatto un po’ strana, non sono riuscita a fargli capire che può chiamarmi e chiedere di vedersi quando vuole? Sono passata dal parlare col lui 12/24, fare videochiamate con lui per cose che potevamo dir.ci per messaggio 12/24 e a vederlo ogni giorno, al non sentirci/vederci tutto in un colpo, sto quasi soffrendo di astinenza. Non voglio essere quella persona che lui reputa pesante ma sentirci per messaggi non è la stessa che vedersi e non è la stessa cosa che chiamarsi. Ma non so se ora posso chiamarlo quando mi va. Prima era sempre per qualcosa relativo alla tesi che facevamo diventare altro mano a mano che parlavamo. Forse questo è quello che intendeva quando mi ha detto troviamo un pretesto per vederci. Lo sento un po’ distante ma è normale, ha cosa da fare ed è lontano da me. Io ho cose da fare anche, ma nessuna immediatamente e mi sento un po’ così. Il corso di inglese inizia il 6 marzo, i libri per studiare arrivano i primi di marzo, Bobba torna dalla missione forse il 6 o il 7, devo aspettare che mio padre parli con questo tizio che conosce o che Susanna torni in studio e parli con l’ingegnere per questa questione del lavoro, ile anche la contatterò appena avrò i libri, è tutto così spostato che non so che fare per occupare le mie giornate e per intrattenere il mio cervello dall’overthinking tutto quello che gli capita sottomano.

Questi giorni mi sto isolando un po’, di la colpa anche al tempo però, fosse stato più caldo sarei almeno andata a correre qualche mattina in spiaggia. Invece ci stanno temporali e pioggia e si gela tanto. Sto finendo di vedere Outer Banks e Crash course in romance, sto leggendo web toon varie e iniziando anime che voglio consigliare a Daniele perché so che gli piaceranno (ancora non l’ho fatto perché ancora non ci siamo visti). Devo andare a ritirare le foto del rullino usato al tirocinio e aspettare che mi spediscano quelle che ho fatto stampare come mini polaroid. Mi sento un po’ idiota, ho bisogno di avere qualcosa di fisico da dargli o qualcosa da dirgli se voglio vedermi con lui. Sarei felicissima se riuscissimo a fare anche una videochiamata in cui parliamo senza motivo ma mi sto bloccando. Bha, spero che questo mood mi passi subito.

(Oggi è uscita anche la notizia dell’enlistment di hobi e non pensavo sarebbe successo così presto che mi sono fatta prendere da un sacco di tristezza pensando al rapporto che ha con gli altri membri e che io posso solo sognare) (però ora ha annunciato un single che esce questo venerdì e il mondo può essere un tantino più felice adesso)
