not sure about these, but Jaye seems like a Rogue of Breath, Dane could be a Bard of Void, and Drew a Knight of Rage?
I think I can see Rogue of Breath for Jaye, but I do have some hesitations, too.
The fact that he does a lot of what he does to make other people happy, regardless of his own happiness, definitely aligns with the Rogue dealio. They struggle with their aspect at first because they think they need its inverse for any number of reasons, and for Jaye, he thinks he needs to do what people find funny rather than do what he wants to do to ensure that a few random assholes online are happy - completely neglecting his own happiness in the process as well as his own creativity. He doesn’t really see any other option; sure, his actions are a bit mean, but people love them! People laugh over them! He’s obviously doing something right! Of course, his whole growth arc is realising he doesn’t actually need to do any of that. He can do whatever he wants, and people will actually enjoy that more. He can be free with himself and his own desires and people will actually probably like him more because of it. I think in that sense, Rogue of Breath works because what Jaye’s been doing the whole time is stealing the joy of some people to give to others - and a big part of Breath does seem to be the concept of Fun.
But at the same time, Breath seems too… distant for Jaye? He needs to learn to do what he wants and not to rely on the words of others, not to become totally free from the people around him. He needs to believe in himself and in what he thinks is fun and what he thinks is too far, and he needs to stick with it in order to find his own happiness - and the happiness of others! He needs to realise that, yes, maybe some people laughed at his pranks, but a lot more people were upset by them, and if he just does what he wants pretty much everyone will be happy. He’s got to learn that he can’t fall under the words of other people just because he wants to make them happy. It’s more moderation that’s his focus, not the all-encompassing distance that Breath seems to usually represent.
But that could also be the point? To be Realised he’d have to figure out the difference between doing what he wants and completely disconnecting from his friends and the people around him. His main goal in life is to make people happy - he wants to do all his magic, comedy, and acting just to make people smile - but I don’t know how much this translates to his friends? I’d almost say, in a way, he cares more about what people he doesn’t know think of him than what his friends think of him. He still tries to do what’ll make them happy, but not quite to the same degree.
This is one of the most annoying parts of Jaye!! I really struggle to think about what he’d actually do for his friends, because he almost treats them by a different set of rules. He’s as soft and sweet online as he is IRL, but he’s severely misguided in what he thinks he has to do. He thinks he needs to rely on the opinions of anonymous people online to actually be funny, because those are his biggest critics - but his friends get the Jaye who’s always kind and compassionate and attentive, if a bit naive. So I can definitely see Rogue as his classpect, but maybe not Breath.
The irony of Dane’s Classpect is that I originally had him as a Knight of Light, so classpecting him as a Bard of Void - almost the complete opposite - is stupidly funny to me. The irony, though, is that I can completely see this working. Dane is a fucking hoarder of secrets - he just seems to know everything, and he doesn’t even try to hide the fact that he knows them. He’s not sure why he knows because he doesn’t remember his dreams, and so he can’t say “yeah the horrorterrors are wordy assholes, they like to tell me shit”. But his whole thing ™ is that he is pretty upfront about the things he knows to such a degree that it seems completely improbable. He is convinced Mothman is real and will fight that to the grave, but Bigfoot? Nah man he’s fake. Never seen anything to suggest that one’s real.
His deal as a blogger also fits pretty well with it all; he’s always talking to people who hold importance online, in various communities, and he’s always finding new information and new leads that he maybe shouldn’t - especially in places you definitely wouldn’t expect it. Dane just honest breaks through every barrier Void could bring up without even trying, which perfectly aligns with the Bard of Void sort of accidentally figuring everything out in some way.
On the point of importance, too, the horrorterrors talking to him personally in his sleep? Pretty important. Colossally important. He’s got that aspect of it down pat.
The bit I’m stumbling over is the Bard’s whimsical nature and the eventual Bard split. Dane’ll have to reach a point where he stops ghosting Light and starts to show through as an actual Void player, and really I can exactly see that happening when he realises that he has no idea about the game at all. That sudden moment when he sees that everything he’s been told and understood comes from just one source, that there are secrets he never found out because of the nature of their session, that everything he knows essentially amounts to nothing and that he, essentially, achieved nothing… that his whole point of importance was pretty much a sham and he’s been living on the edge of popularity without really figuring anything out… oooh fuck I really like that. Especially since the point of a Bard’s progression is to control the whimsical nature being a Bard entails. Dane having to realise that yeah, a lot of the things he knew no longer matter, and some of the things he knew just mean nothing because of how their session works, and yeah maybe he’s not as important as he used to be, but he can still find the important things and the secrets that they need and he can still be important to his session and his friends. He might have to scale back a little bit, and in their version of the Scratch he definitely loses some of his initial importance, but in the end he really is one of the most important and valued players going (especially since, he later realises, his death is one of the things that leads to a Doomed session).
So yup that’s settled! Dane’s a Bard of Void! Makes his specibi and modii a little ironic, and I like that.
And holy crap why didn’t I think of Drew being a Knight of Rage before. It makes so much sense. He is constantly thriving off of fear, adrenaline, paranoia, and the negative emotions he stews himself in as a little exploit to cheat himself out of death (can’t die if you can’t sleep). He utilises everything he knows will keep those negative emotions going as a way to protect himself from the negative emotions of others, too, but also ends up - in a paradoxical way - using those very same negative emotions to protect his friends from himself (blocking them immediately when he’s frightened, for instance, so they don’t get the brunt of his Rage).
Even his later actions in trying to take control of the sessions works under this. He very secretly doesn’t think he’s ready for the session, and projects this onto his friends by thinking they’re not ready for it, either; it’s his own doubt in himself that makes him try to take all the responsibility, depriving the others of their growth. Which is a very negative thing and causes a lot of issues, yes, but that’s the part he has to grow from; to accept that he’s got to face his own negativity and figure out just where it is that his actual faults lie.
He’s also amazing at exploiting Rage. It’s something I always intended to be a thing, but for some reason associated with a more Heart-aligned class. This gives me a lot more room for character growth within him, as well as more of a reasoning behind who he is and what he does (and why, for instance, his abusive dad is the reason he changes). It also gives me a nice little tie-in to Homestuck with the fact that he was going to be one of the only characters to get a moirail - I’m pretty sure we’ve never seen a Rage player who hasn’t had a moirail at some point who ends up being the reason for their growth.
So, heck yes to the Knight of Rage for Drew!!
Holy crap, that’s three of these Classpects down already. That’s genuinely exciting. I am very excited by the fact that we’ve got Drew and Dane done, too, because these two are my babies and honestly my favourite of the bunch!!

Mutual: Makes a post about not finishing projects
Me, staring at several Google Documents of unfinished content for my theory blog, the OFF fangame I was creating maps for, and the general plot of Ectostuck I’m still trying to map out: ... I’ll probably get around to that.

I'm no analyst, but for Judy I was thinking knight of life, for Jace I was thinking heir of hope, and for Jaye I was thinking page of heart. Hope I help in any way possible dhdns
Judy is one of the harder characters for me to Classpect, admittedly because I haven’t really decided on her personality yet. I know that she tends to get hung up on things she can’t have - for instance, she is convinced that Jace is the man she’s meant to fall in love with, and offers herself no other options despite being fully aware of the fact that he’s not interested in romance (in a sense because she thinks she deserves that sort of rejection) - and isn’t the greatest at recognising when she’s being too hard on herself. She’s kind and jovial to everyone she talks to, usually pretty trusting as long as she’s got enough evidence to think that what someone is saying is true, and likes to help people as much as she can, gently guiding them towards things they could do better without actively shoving them at the improvement itself. She’s an active person, constantly baking and speaking to people and reading/playing/watching anything from the good told days ™.
But I’m not sure if she’s active enough to be a Knight? It’s not like she’s constantly on the go, doing this and that and improving on everything she does because she wants to be the best. It’s almost the opposite; she struggles with realising her own issues, or convinces herself that what she’s doing is okay, while supporting other people. She’s the sort of hypocrite who’d say, “you’re being much too hard on yourself!”, but then put herself in a position where she can’t get what she really wants.
I’m not too sure what that’d make her, though. I definitely like the assigned Life aspect for her, so that definitely helps narrow it down!
I think Heir of Hope fits Jace to a T. He’s a ridiculous buffoon, filled with this ongoing sense of optimism. The world is his oyster, and he is going to dig in for all he’s worth. Quite literally anything could be an adventure to Jace simply because he thinks the entire experience is fun - even if that experience is sort of petty theft in someone’s bins because he saw something a bit shiny. He’s run away from furious people laughing before, just because to him the adrenaline holds a much higher presence than the fact that he’s probably just made someone upset. It’s those sort of things that he doesn’t notice, in a way; he doesn’t always see the consequences his actions have, usually because everything he does ends well (at least for himself) in some way.
He’s also just incredibly naive. That’s one of his biggest flaws; he’s so positive about things he’s honestly awful at telling when someone is genuinely upset, because he can’t see what there is to be upset over. He’s very of the “if you think it’s fine, it’ll be fine!” mindset - and he won’t let you forget it, either. The only thing he does worse than that is the actual avoidance of certain issues. That’s the only thing that makes me waver on the Heir of Hope choice; sometimes he falters and looks at a situation and thinks, “not for me, thank you!” and just avoids it entirely, or realises a situation is going somewhere he doesn’t like and dips out for a few hours, coming back only when he thinks the situation is handled with a “sorry about that, chap, adventure called!” (done so people think he actually left just by coincidence). Is their Heir of Hope-y? I’m not sure. But maybe that’s the sort of thing he has to learn to change as he goes through the game, so I can’t discount it just because of one tiny thing I’m unsure on, especially since I’m pretty sure it fits him in literally every other way.
So, Heir of Hope Jace is!
As for Jaye… I’m not sure Page of Heart fits him well at all. There seems to be a running theme of “overly compassionate, understanding, totally loving shipper!!” that doesn’t go with how Jaye acts as a person. He’s fun, he’s silly, he loves to make people laugh and often goes over his own boundaries in his attempts to do so (being easily influenced by what people ask him to do thinking that it will make them happy), even though he knows that what he’s doing maybe goes a step too far. He’s a very friendly person, and even if he doesn’t inherently know someone he tends to be kind and warm until they do something that makes his desire to be friendly slip away - and even then, he tends to just block people and move on rather than get super worked up about it.
I think all of that definitely has hints of Heart to it, but I’m not so sure on the Page bit. He doesn’t go out of his way to be compassionate or caring; it’s just sort of what happens because that’s the kind of person he is. There are definitely other people who are more aware of issues than he is - like Jace, he’s a bit naive and oblivious - but once someone straight up tells him that something’s wrong he’s quick to try and make them feel better again. He doesn’t really ghost Mind in any way, doing pretty much whatever feels like the best idea at the time even if there’s little reasoning behind it. He’s not totally impulsive, but out of all of them, he and Jace are the most likely to jump into a dark pit because it seemed like “a good idea” without thinking through all the bad stuff that could be at the bottom.
He’s terrible at romance, though, and that’s the one thing that makes me question the Heart aspect for him? He’s not all that great at noticing when people like him, and he’s absolutely terrible at telling when people like each other. He’d honestly be the sort of person to go “wait, judy likes jace??” because he never would’ve though that Judy would like… anyone, really, let alone Jace. He’s more friendship orientated, and I’m not sure if that counts.
So definitely not a Page, at the very least, but god I’m torn on whether or not he’s a Heart player. I’m gonna need to do some more research on that one, too.
Thank you so much for your suggestions!! That’s honestly the most progress I’ve made on these guys and their classpects in a while.

I probably missed something here (recent follower and all that) but what's Ectostuck?
Ectostuck is a Fanventure I’m planning! It’s been in the works for a few years but I’m hoping to be actually writing it up soon.
You can find more info at @ectostuckofficial, though it’s admittedly a little outdated right now, but basically:
Ectostuck takes place in a universe where the ectobaby guardians that John makes in the Ectobiology Lab (and in a parallel universe where Jane does the same to their set of guardians, which I’m calling the Mirrored Verse) are paradoxified into another universe (the Ectoverse). Because they were taken before their timeline split (which diverges them into the Alpha and Beta timelines, essentially turning Orange Ectobaby into Dirk and Bro respectively), they’re a strange mix of their Alpha and Beta selves.
The paradox specifically means that the timeline is unstable, because they were never actually meant to be there in the first place, and that strange things happen in their universe - such as items being missing out of nowhere, or things being sent with no owner - which also hosts a SBURB session. Unfortunately, the nature of their universe means their session is likewise unstable, and they must therefore figure out how to contact an Anomaly in order to even hope to find a way to win their never-ending session.
Paradoxically, it also means that each kid is only related to themself and their divided counterparts. Because Ectobiology initially makes perfect paradox clones of the Guardians (meaning Bro is literally only related to himself and Dirk, because he’s perfectly paradoxed), and the kids are basically the Guardian babies before the decision on whether they become the Alpha or Beta self, their relations work a little... complicatedly.
So, our two Striders are Drew and Dane, right? Drew Strider is only related to Bro and Dirk. In the mirrored universe (the one where the Alpha session goes first, and the Beta session is their backup), this means that Alpha Dave is the paradoxified Guardian, so Dane Strider is only related to Mirrored Alpha Dave and Mirrored Dave.
Drew and Dane, therefore, are not related to each other. The same thing is true for the other players (Jaye Egbert, Jace English, Judy Crocker, June Harley, Roni Lalonde, and Rhea Lalonde). Which means there are no player-compatible guardians. Which means there is no Alpha universe, nor even a vague chance for a Scratch - it just straight up doesn’t exist. Which means, they only get one shot at SBURB.
Honestly the loophole in the Ectobiology is the worst thing to wrap your head around. It’s a lot of questions of identity later in the comic ft. a bunch of kids who aren’t related to anyone else in their universe - not even each other - coming to grips with the shattering isolation of a broken session, desperately trying to contact an Anomaly they think will help them while they’ve actively got a big bad working against them.

@fun-with-colors
I saw your tags. I’m here to theorise.
Knights of Light, for as long as I’ve been able to understand them, have always seemed to me to be the type that just come across Knowledge. There’s no real intention on their part to find it; it just happens to be right there, waiting for them.
They’re the kind that get messages from the Horrorterrors in their dreams, though they’re never aware that their dreams are from other beings. They can’t fully comprehend what they’re seeing, even in a dreaming state, and as a result transfer it into something they can analyse, find meaning in, and understand.
For instance, when I originally had Dane (from my AU Ectostuck) classpected as a Knight of Light, one of his biggest theories was “mothman is real”. He got this information from the revelation in his dreams that he was going to be prototyped with a Mothsprite, and that he would die early into the game. In technicality, this would make him a Moth Man.
If we want to go wholly narrative with this, then we can assume that a Knight of Light is physically capable of hearing or interacting with the narrative. They’re likely able to dream about it as if it’s an open book, or can just innately recognise it in the back of their head, as if it’s transcribed somewhere and playing out in a voice that their subconscious can hear.
They might not be fully aware of what it is, and as such, they’re more likely to assume that they’re just good at Knowing things. But this also means that they can use the narrative in an exploitative way.
If the Knight of Light is a few steps ahead in the narrative and can “read” that their next reaction is to bow to a person they actually don’t like, they can completely avoid that outcome. They can exploit it by knowing what’s going to happen, and doing something else.
Lets say that Terezi were a Knight of Light instead of a Seer of Mind. If she knew that killing Vriska on the meteor would much, much later on lead to a doomed timeline, and that letting her live would get them all killed, all because she had the narrative playing out in the back of her head at all times, then she’d know immediately that she’d just have to get the drop on Vriska and knock her out.
She wouldn’t know why, per se, knocking Vriska out is the best option, but she’d know that it has to be done - and in doing so, she’d completely skip any of the events that led to Game Over.
Of course, Knights of Light would also be able to tell if a narrative speaker is present, and they’d be able to exploit that voiced narrative in order to trick the narrator.
A Knight of Light in Meat could’ve easily gotten the drop on Dirk because they’d have known almost instantly that Dirk was in control of the narrative. They could then use that Information and play along until such a point that Dirk can’t fight them back, and while they wouldn’t know he was the narrator or that he was using the narrative specifically, they’d be able to guess that Dirk had been controlling everyone the entire time and wouldn’t be swayed by his influence.
(In other words, much like Dave, they’d hear Dirk’s voice in the back of their mind - but they’d hear it in full clarity, and they’d be able to decide what they do and don’t do, how much they give away.)
Hell, a really good Knight of Light could be able to control the narrative itself without meaning to. If they exploited it to the full, they’d be able to change that narrative in their head - the actual narrative that they’re being exposed to - the same way that Dirk changes the narrative of Pony Pals. The original narrative would still be there, but you’d have sections crossed out or written over by the Knight of Light, subconciously or completely intentionally.
I mean, this could even be done physically. Think of the book Calliope reads that details the story of the Alpha and Beta kids. If a Knight of Light got their hands on that and actually wrote over it, the things they wrote would come True.
Light has so much to do with the Plot and Importance, it’s very easy to say that a Knight of Light would become the main character of any narrative they’re present in - likely turning something like Homestuck from the 2nd persona to the 1st - and that they’d have a significant effect on the narrative as a whole. I think, however, they’d never be fully aware of it.
Like, they’d get the idea and the concepts, but they’d see it as just that; concepts. A way to visualise what they’re doing rather than what’s actually happening. They’d only realise that as Truth if they ever become a Realised player or (more likely) the Ultimate Self, but even then I’d say it’s more lowkey.
After all, Rose is a Light player - a literal Seer of the Plot - and she doesn’t have as much of a narrative grasp as Dave does (being that she isn’t aware that Dirk’s controlling the narrative in Meat, and doesn’t host any concern to the physical text during Candy, either. She sees the plot and the story, but not the words). It’d make sense that the Knight can interact, but can’t actually see.
Of course, Light is a more metaphysical aspect - one of the idealist ones, rather than the realist Aspects, such as Time - so it’s always going to be a fact that it’s easier for a Light player to mess with the out-of-universe things.
In that sense... A Knight of Light could be the player to recongise that they’re in a story, but see it as a sort of “alternate universe” sort of deal. I don’t think they’d realise that there’s a narrator - that Andrew Hussie, for instance, is writing Homestuck itself - but they’d know that there’s people who can see, and people who can help. They could likely exploit that by interacting with a real-world audience. They’d be 4th wall breakers, if they got really good at it. Knowing that something’s there, but maybe not wholly what.
They’d also be able to exploit the things the narrative doesn’t focus on. I think I mentioned this before, but I’ll go over it again with a deeper focus; Dave has always loved breadsticks, but this wasn’t relevant enough for us to know, and thus wasn’t written in the narrative. There’s likely a thousand other things he likes that we don’t see - and it’s logical to think that there’s a thousand things he does that we don’t see, either.
For instance, we know that all the characters collect the Grist that drops from the monsters. We don’t see them do it, but they must do, because their Grist counter goes up.
We also know that they must eat and pee. It’s just... human biology. We don’t see it because watching that isn’t relevant to the story, but surely they must do.
We also know that they must walk places without us actually seeing them do it. We don’t see every step of their travels; sometimes we just see where they end up. Maybe they picked a flower while walking. We’ll never see that flower, but it’s still there, on their person.
Maybe they give that flower to someone else. We still won’t see that flower, because it’s not imporant. This flower could move from person to person and we’d never know.
In the same vein, we’ll never know what happened between Dirk and Jake during their relationship word for word. We missed a lot of that. The build up wasn’t as important as the actual breakup and fallout; so there’s a thousand things they could have done and said to each other during that time that we’ll never see.
Naturally, a Knight of Light could exploit this. Imagine they just randomly brandish an incredibly powerful item that the narrative isn’t prepared for, all because they did the quest for it off-screen. Imagine that they take detours all across the map whenever we’re not focused on them so that they can avoid specific points of confrontation later in the narrative, or so that they can help set up something off screen that ends up being invaluable later.
A lot of what they do would have to have some sort of on-screen significance - it’d be a Knight of Void, probably, who hides things that’re never seen again within the narrative, and only they who can stop it from ever being revealled, thereby creating their own purposeful plotholes (that only stay irrelevant for as long as even the author doesn’t mention or explain it) - but they could exploit those lapses within the narrative wholly.
There’s a lot that can come from the narrative when you really think about it, and I’m so glad I always read tags so I didn’t miss that! This post got so much longer than I intended it to be, all because I kept thinking of more and more that a Knight of Light could exploit within the narrative. I think I need to end it here, though, in case it gets too long. But, for a final thought:
When you read this text, you are essentially reading my voice. I am influencing the way you read things in a very clear and precise way. However, if you didn’t know that this was, in and of itself, a form of narrative, you wouldn’t maybe focus on the fact that I am a real person writing these words with a specific purpose. You wouldn’t know that every word is being transcribed from my thoughts onto a page, and that there is an overarching figure to contend with. You would know that there is a narrative being made, and that is as far as you’d be able to get. This is the experience of the Knight of Light.
They would be able to understand my arguments, and they would be able to garner everything they needed from them - but they wouldn’t know that these words have an author. They’d interact with the narrative, change it, disobey it - but they wouldn’t talk as if they knew that a wider figure, a god-like figure, is writing it all down.
In Homestuck, Rose knows there’s a plot but doesn’t focus on the idea of finding the author in order to change things, even though there is still an author physically writing their story even after Hussie (the character) has died, and their narrative focuses more on them as real people than as fictional characters. In some ways, this is because that would get too meta. A character who knows there’s a conceptual “story” is one thing; a character who knows they don’t truly exist, because everything they say is being written down by someone else, someone bigger, is another.
So when you think about the Knight of Light, it’s always best to imagine that their influence ends with the in-universe understanding. They can break the 4th wall, but not come through it; they can exploit the plot, but not the author; they can recognise that a story’s being told, but not that there is someone responsible for it - at the very least, not someone who isn’t already present within the universe.

Is your tags master list working properly for you and anyone else who sees this? I just tried going through some of the tags through and I think they either lead to the wrong stuff/don’t take me to the tag and say “there’s nothing here” or whatever junk tumblr has to say
It is on my end. Hrm.

Does that work now? It might have taken a while to update, since I had to edit the links (I forgot to change them after the rebranding), but all the links are opening just fine on my end. If they still don’t work, let me give you this:

This is incredibly off topic, but I decided, you know what? I’ve written a lot of posts today. Or I’ve at least written a significant amount of words. I’m going to work on Ectostuck!
So I open up the document to the part I need to work on, and
Tumblr media
I have absolutely no idea where the fuck I was going with this sprite idea.

Does Ectostuck have a blog? It seems intriguing from what you’ve posted of it so far!
It has a development blog! @ectostuckofficial
It’s a little outdated at the moment, especially since I’ve been doing a fairly massive sprite overhaul (the ones on the blog are more like placeholders at the moment), but it gives basic information about how the session is going to work, what each character is sort of like/goes through, and very simple plot points.
I intend to update it all very soon - for instance, I’ve finalised Kernelsprite prototypings, I’ve figured out Classpects, and I’ve got the idea of Quests and Lands down. I also have a few characters I need to add in - the Curator and Mr. Rewind, as well as the last few trolls - and I need to write a bit more on troll society (it’s totally different in Ectostuck; I went over it a little).
I’m still trying to figure out how I want it to work (whether it’s going to be a fanfic sort of thing with images to accompany it, or whether it’s going to be a full comic - which requires me to figure out how to make music and animations, although I intend for each character to have a “theme” if nothing else) but the basic bones of the plot is there.
I forgot there’s still one character I need to name? He’s pretty integral to the plot as a whole, he should probably, like. Have A Name.

I will go back to more normal content in the coming week - I might even try to get a few classpecting posts done, or I might finish up one of the more creative asks I was given a while ago and started but never finished - but if anyone has any further ideas for the Ectostuck classpects, please let me know! So far only three of the eight kids have finalised classpects, with another two having half of a potential classpect each (one with an aspect, the other with a class), so any help is appreciated.
Thank you to the anons who helped me today, too!

I'd draw some ectostuck for just like... Idk, a fantroll sprite? I could show you some examples of my art if you'd like.
i’d be up for that!! :D it seems like a fair and fun trade to me! plus any art would go on the ectostuck blog, which will be super cool to fill it up with between the super wordy introduction posts i’m doing!

since i don’t have anything else to post, how about some ectostuck chumhandles?
aa: avarice abound (jace) lb: liable betty (judy) pn: psychic negator (rhea) ha: horticulture artisan (june) ss: sloshed scientist (roni) ee: enthusiastic entertainer (jaye) ti: tortured ichor (drew) os: omniscient surmise (dane)
i couldn’t feasibly do tt, tg, gt and gg for eight characters so i decided to do something entirely different instead! all the letters doubled up for the chumhandles can come together to spell out “alpha beta session” in reference to the fact that the kids are fusions of their alpha and beta universe selves
