Thank you @.thewoolmarkcompany for giving me the full farm to fashion experience 🇦🇺 🇮🇹 and for teaching me about the wearability and versatility of wool. I know a bunch of you won’t read past ^that^ and check the pics out, and that’s ok. For those who decided to continue on, thank you 🤠 So, I started doing supply chain trips with @.ecoage last year because I wanted to know more about where our stuff comes from; what it’s made of, where it’s sourced from, and how many hands touch it before it lands in our stores. It was a lot to unpack 💼. Since then I’ve been to a regenerative cotton farm, a diamond mine, and got to follow wool from the farm to the factory and finally to tailor shop. Wild w/ lots of jet lag but totally worth it. As synthetic (mostly petroleum ⛽️ based) fibers are used more and more studies show they aren’t able to biodegrade like natural fibers (wool breaks down in water!! Isn’t that cool?), so with each wash of these polyester, acrylic, nylon, and spandex garments microplastics are released into the waterways. As the fibres are so small, many pass through filtration processes and make their way into our rivers and seas, and then we gobble them up ♻️. While activists push for legislation around this, the manufacturers are saying the washer/dryer companies should add a filter to solve the problem *ahem* 🚬 It won’t, it takes us to think again about what we are buying and show them we are in control, we demand better because we deserve better. And now, we KNOW better. I am not an expert, nor do I think I ever will be, but hopefully you find it interesting enough to stop and think again when we are buying something to put on our body. We do it with food, why not with our clothing?

The Green Carpet Fashion Awards

HOW MANY WEARS?
Versatility is something I look for in pieces for my wardrobe even more since I read about the #30wears campaign. Eco-fashion activist Livia Firth has critiqued “throwaway fashion,” saying women buying new outfits should always ask themselves: “Will I wear this 30 times?” Thirty is a lot, but I am trying to increase wears and ways to wear pieces to do my part. Read more about Livia’s effort in this 2015 article.
I still remember buying this top a few years ago. I was looking for a few new-to-me longer tops to wear with leggings and boots so I made a trip to the local consignment shop. Those shopping trips are sometimes hit or miss, but this particular day was quite a hit. I bought a handful of the pieces I tried on. And this cotton tunic by Fresh Produce has been worn at least twenty times by me since then - as (maybe) you can see on my little custom tag - and that doesn’t even include however many times it may have been worn by its previous owner!
And last year when I went back to school, I decided to make life easier by sticking to more of a capsule wardrobe. You can check out my favorite outfits and plans to repeat them on my Capsule Wardrobe Pinterest board. But I also saw the Ecoage #30wearschallenge, and I made myself little tags so I could keep track of how many times I wore the capsule pieces. I have definitely worn pieces outside of the capsule since I created it, but I have been very pleased with the number of wears I have gotten out of so many great items.
SImple favorites #madeinUSA outfit details: Fresh Produce blue ikat drawstring waist cotton tunic from Rags Consignments, Boulder; jeans by Rag & Bone; my own earrings and necklace by Dana Birke designs; “Missy” frame sunglasses by Kala Eyewear

Proud to support @livia_firth and @ecoage #BLOCKFRIDAY campaign - in solidarity with garment workers and other *human beings* who work as part of supply chains globally to produce goods for use to consume like *crazy*. DONT BELIEVE THE HYPE generated by retailers, which tells us to buy, buy, buy, mindlessly and whips us up into a frenzy to spend money we don’t have, on things we don’t need, because of a special “bargain” deal for-one-day- only (which is now, extended to at least a Black week!) To quote the eco-warrior legend and campaigner extraordinaire Dame Vivienne Westwood “BUY LESS, CHOOSE WELL, MAKE IT LAST!” #blacklotuslondon 💜 #fridayphilosophy 🖤 #BLOCKFRIDAY #socialmediaforgood #activecitizens #sustainablestyle #consciousclothing #consciousconsumer #StylewithHeart #Wearwithpride #ConsciousConsumerism #ForMoreThanProfit #fashionwithheart #positivelybeautiful #ethicsandaesthetics #wearewhatweshop #buylesschoosewell #ethicalfashion #saynotosweatshops #nomorefashionvictims #RanaPlaza #FashionRevolution #nomoreslavelabour #endslavery #ecoage #fashionfriday #fashion #style #ethicalisthenewblack #truecostmovie (at London, United Kingdom)

Filter by Fabric: a call for real change In recent years there has been a huge push for food traceability and transparency (and we got it!), but why not for the clothing that we put on our bodies everyday? A lot of the fancy names on our tags or words describing them (silky, fleece, mesh, etc) mean a couple of startling things, they’re most likely petroleum & plastic based products ⛽️🥤 @.thewoolmarkcompany launched the Filter by Fabric initative to end this confusion, urging all fashion brands, retailers, publishers and content creators to commit to clear, honest product names that accurately communicate fabric composition. Focusing on the fabric’s impact and empowering us to make more informed and sustainably-conscious decisions is all we’re asking for. #filterbyfabric @.ecoage
