32 馃
Ooh this is a fun one. Here we go!
Tumblr media
Number 32 is Red and Black from Les Mis茅rables (original stage cast). This can either be seen as really funny or kinda sad, depending on how you look at it. I personally tend to lean towards the funny side, since I put this on there imagining it as the first meeting of the newly turned CATTs, with Darius playing Enjolras*, Raine playing Marius*, Eberwolf as Grantaire* and the younger BATTs as various other voices in the song.
https://genius.com/Claude-michel-schonberg-red-and-black-lyrics
I鈥檝e linked the Genius Lyrics with annotations of this song in case anyone鈥檚 curious, but I think it鈥檚 really funny to picture exasperated Darius trying to lead a rebellion, lovesick Raine sitting in the corner pining, and Eberwolf just encouraging Raine to annoy Darius (and of course the baby BATTs, just enjoying the show. Derwin鈥檚 just politely amused, Amber thinks it鈥檚 weird, and Katya is LOVING IT)
I鈥檓 so sad that I lost my Apple Pencil or I would draw some of these scenes 馃槀 anyone who wants to feel free to steal this idea for animatics or art! thanks for the ask! If people are interested, I can do a full annotation once finals are over.
*casting is for this song only, not the whole musical lol

Argi winced as the wounds in her stomach flared up. It'd been five days since the attack and she'd healed up enough to get up and back to work. Hunter had been with her most of the time and he wasn't comfortable with her going back to missions.
But uncle had called her in personally so she had to go.
She walked into the throne room and found Miss Nazik discussing something with Miss Snapdragon while Uncle was sitting in his throne.
"Hello Emperor Belos, what do you need me for?" She asked.
She didn't try to kneel, she knew it would hurt like hell, and be hard to do. Plus Miss Nazik would probably be upset with her.
"Silver, I trust you are healing well?" She nodded.
"Good, you are going with Terra to the Coven Day Parade in Bonesburrow to watch Kikimora, from what you've told me, her loyalties are questionable." He said.
Shit. Stuck with the backstabber. Well, gut stabber technically.
She simply nodded again.
"You're dismissed."
She left the throne room quickly. Phoebe won't be happy about this. Her Palisman did not like Kikimora, she honestly didn't either.
Phoebe flew in through a window and landed on her shoulder. She wasn't allowed to be in the same room as uncle, unless an emergency happened..
"We're stuck with the fucking bitch backstabbing waste of space?" Phoebe sighed.
"Yep. I'm just as happy as you are." Argi confirmed.
"I'd deal with Darius over her, at least he won't stab you for doing your job." Phoebe paused to way her options.
"Actually I'd take Eberwolf any day of the week over those two." They chirped.
"Eber actually likes us. And I'd totally take them or Darius over Kiki too." Argi agreed.
"Right, th- Look out!" Phoebe thrusted their body into her just in time to avoid slamming headfirst into an approaching witch.
Argi flinched as the witch she'd bumped into cursed. They'd dropped some important papers. She dropped to her knees and started picking them up.
"Sorry! Sorry! Sorry! I wasn't looking where I was going and I hit you and made you drop everytjing and now it's a mess! I'll clean it up don't worry!" Don't tell Uncle! She apologized hastily.
She grabbed the papers and tried to make them as neat as she could, she was thankful for her helmet which was keeping her embarrassed face hidden from them. She held the stack of papers out to them and waited for the shouting to start, most who had this much paperwork were always grouchy and eager to yell.
"Thanks Silver, it's really no problem." She shot her head up at the voice she hadn't heard in over a month.
"Raine! You're okay!" She exclaimed louder than she'd intended too.
The minty green haired witch smiled at her.
"I'm better than I have been in a while." They said.
"That's great!" She paused and briefly considered whether or not to bringing up who caused Raine's sickness.
"I still can't believe the Owl Lady would do that to you." She muttered bitterly.
"I don't know why she did that either." Argi noted a distinct sadness in Raine's voice.
She had to imagine someone she cared about doing something like that would defenately make her hurt and rethink everything she thought she knew.
"Are you going to be in Bonesborough?" She asked.
"Yes, I'm on the float. Yay!" Raine gave a decidedly unenthusiastic cheer.
"But I'll handle it, part of the job." Raine stood and lifted her onto her feet too, they were stronger than they looked.
Argi darted forwards and hugged them, relieved when they returned the action without any hesitation. Their scent of rosin, polished wood, paper and ink was still strong, but some new smells were mixed in, they smelled like some of Snapdragon's plants, obvious since a lot of plants were used by healers and potion makers to make medicinal remedies. They smelled strange though, like something was just, off, they smelled more confident.
And they carried a somehow familiar scent that manifested itself in her head as spicy and feathers. Kinda like the way Lilith smelled, and the way Raine smelled back when she was little. She liked the smell, it was just one of those things she knew for no reason she could remember. She gave a little chuckle.
"You're spicy feather smell is back." She said.
Raine was clearly confused but they just smiled.
"What's that mean?" They asked.
"I dunno, can't remember exactly where it's from." She shrugged.
Raine's smile grew. Kid's always been odd and endearing. They thought fondly.
"I've got some paper work to drop off, want to tag along and tell me what I've missed the last month?" They offered.
The girl's eyeslits lit up with bright yellow light. She nodded eagerly and imedeatly started going off on what they'd missed.
XXX
Secretly, Argi got a kick out of watching Kikimora panic when Terra showed up. It was nice that she knew someone other than Belos who Kiki was legitimately afraid of.
Not so secretly, she got a kick out of seeing Kikimora's face when she made her own presence known seconds after Terra walked off with Raine.
"bl-Blue Guard? What are you doing here? I thought you were off on healing leave." Kikimora stuttered.
Argi chuckled and smirked, though Kiki only heard the laugh.
"The Emperor says I'm able to go on missions where very little is expected to go wrong." She paused and prodded Kiki with the end of her staff, "Nothing is going to go wrong, right?"
Kiki swallowed and nodded. Argi retracted her staff and leaned against it.
"Good, let's hope it stays that way. For your sake." She said.
She cast her spell partly, just so that she'd disappear but anyone would be able to hear her.
"Oh, and I'll be watching for trouble." She added, then she finished the spell so that she could only be kinda seen or heard by Miss Snapdragon.
She took three steps and watched as Kiki imedeatly got on her crow phone and started dialling someone. She smirked at her when one of Miss Snapdragon's vines slapped the phone away.
"You're not trying to leave, are you?" She asked.
Kikimora gulped nervously.
"Come. The parade is about to begin." Miss Snapdragon gave Kiki a little push towards her float.
"This is more fun than I thought it would be." Phoebe said through their mental connection to her.
"Yeah, sure is."
XXX
It was painfully obvious to Argi that there was something going on. If not for the float that was clearly out of place, then it was the strange smell coming from it that didn't belong either. And her keen ears were picking up whispers through the roaring of the crowd.
"Four, three, two-"
The explosion of unexpected fireworks was deafening to her sensitive ears. The ringing was intense. She flattened her ears against her skull and moved to higher ground before smoke enveloped the ground.
She surveyed the floats and spotted a small shape moving towards Kikimora. Whoever it was scooped her up, Kikimora struggled rather pathetically.
"Ooh! I cannot believe we are being taken against out will! What sayeth you, fiend?" Kikimora exclaimed.
"Uh, that's right, I, Hecate, will whisk you away to my kingdom of mirrors and snakes!" The supposed 'fiend' fumbled through her words.
Argi scoffed at the pitiful performance and started making her way to them. A quick blast and they'd be out.
She was almost to the ground when Raine arrived on the scene. Ha! They're finished now!
Spicy feathers.
Wait. What's that?
A strange scent filled her nose. It was warm, smelled like herbs and spices and potion smoke and chaos and food. She turned and saw yellow golden and silver eyes. The Owl Lady!
For some reason, she couldn't do anything but stare as as the Owl lady wrapped Raine up with vines and threw them over her shoulder. Her head was filled with one thing and one thing only.
Spicy feathers. Spicy feathers. Spicy feathers. Spicy feathers. Spicy feathers. Spicy feathers.
She shook her head to clear it from the distraction. They'd all disappeared. Or so they thought they had. She spotted the human running with Kikimora towards the docks, their pitiful invisibility spell gave off a bright, cloudy glow. The weaker an invisibility or cloaking spell the better she could see through it.
She ignored the human and turned her attention fully onto Raine. She didn't need to see where they'd gone to track them. She could pick Raine's, and that spicy feather scent, out of the crowd with ease.
Her ears flicked back as Miss Snapdragon came up to her.
"Which way did they go, seedling?" She asked.
"Kikimora's headed towards the docks." Argi muttered bitterly.
She was supposed to stick with Miss Snapdragon, uncle had told her too.
"Good, I'll go for her, you can help Whispers." She said.
Silver didn't wait and raced down Raine's scent trail. The Owl Lady has some nerve showing up here after what she did!
She tracked them down easily, they were just reappearing in an alleyway when she arrived. The owl lady was hugging Raine. Hugging after what she did to them!
"Raine, I'm so glad you're okay!"
Argi couldn't stand it.
She charged into the owl lady, knocking the witch over and to the ground. Her invisibility flickered out when she was sent off the witch by a plant spell. She hit the side of the alley with a soft thump, a growl rose in her throat as she pushed herself up. The owl lady looked confused but angry, she was prepared to fight. What's the owl's game?
She made a spell circle with one of her tails.
Raine stepped between the owl lady and herself. Surprisingly, the owl lady took a step back. Argi didn't trust the intent of that witch. Raine turned to her with worry in their green eyes.
"Kid, you okay? You didn't re-open any of your wounds, did you?" They asked while pulling her away from the wall she was leaning against.
She hissed in pain as Raine touched the shoulder the owl lady had hit. It compounded with the pain from her healing injuries she was getting by moving too much. Seeing her in pain made Raine mad. She could feel their concern and confusion turn to anger, she was glad their rage wouldn't be directed at her.
"Eda! What are you doing? First you poison me and then you attack a kid! A fucking kid! What is with you?!" Raine shouted.
There was a surprised look on the owl lady's pale face.
"Poison?" She echoed.
She took a step too close to Raine for Argi's liking, she ran forwards and shoved the owl back, sending out a lightning spell for good measure.
"You stay away and leave Raine alone!" She spat.
The owl lady glared at her. Cold, hard eyes.
"This isn't any of your business, kid." She hissed.
"It became my business when you poisoned them and left them for dead a month ago!" Argi shouted.
"Silver-" Raine tried to calm her down.
"And now you're back to do it again!" She finished.
The way the owl lady was staring at her only made her more angry, she looked upset and confused, like she didn't know anything of what they were talking about. She looked to Raine with pleading eyes.
"Rainestorm... Do you really think that's true? Do you honestly think I'd do that to you?" She asked.
Argi blocked the owl lady when she moved towards Raine. She hissed. Raine put a hand on her shoulder and stepped up.
"There is evidence and proof that you poisoned me, I remember it too, and if, by any slim chance you didn't, you still attacked a child who was just trying to help me." Raine paused with a longing sigh.
"I honestly don't know who you are anymore Eda, we haven't seen each other in years. I get that you would have changed... but I didn't think you'd become this." Raine gestured to the wild witch.
"Raine..." The owl lady started, she looked down in defeat.
"I don't know how Belos made you believe that I would do anything to hurt you but I'm not leaving, I'm not letting you leave until I get through to you!" The wild witch threw down a piece of paper and a wall of vines grew out of it.
Argi was ready to fight with Raine but the bard stopped her with a simple extending of their hand.
"No, I'll handle her." They said.
"But Raine, she'll-" Argi tried to argue.
"Kid, I can handle a crazy ex, go help Terra, that's what you were here to do." Raine ordered gently.
Reluctantly, Argi nodded. She turned to leave then cast a glare over her shoulder.
"You hurt them again and you'll wish you were dead." She stated.
With that, she vanished and went off in search of Miss Snapdragon. The human and Kikimora were bound to be at the docks by now.
XXX
Argi wasn't the slightest bit surprised when Kikimora turned on the human and young Blight. Though, she was impressed by the combination of magic they used to fight Kiki's hand dragon off.
"Now?" She asked Miss Snapdragon.
"Yes."
They both cast their spells and vines burst from the water, wrapping around the hand dragon. Kikimora flew off. Argi landed in front of her and whistled a beast specific sleep spell, the massive creature's eyelids drooped then closed.
Miss Snapdragon had wrapped Kiki up in vines too.
"What is this?" The short demon shouted.
Miss Snapdragon emerged from the water with a smirk on her face. Argi made her presence known as well.
"Oh, Kiki, try not to get ahead of yourself. The Emperor has many great plans but causing a riot by hurting a couple of children is not one of them." Miss Snapdragon said.
"Terra!? Shouldn't you be babysitting the bard?" Kiki exclaimed.
"I wasn't sent here to watch over Raine, I was sent here to watch over you." The older witch said.
"After the stunt you pulled, the Emperor wanted more proof of your dedication." Argi added with a hiss.
The vines retreated.
"So, is the promotion real? Did I pass?" Kiki asked hopefully.
"Unfortunately." Argi muttered to herself.
"Yes, you did." Miss Snapdragon sighed.
Kiki let out an unholy squeal. Argi pinned her ears back.
"So? What's the promotion? Who's under my command? What do I get?" Kiki asked excitedly while jumping.
Argi smirked. Wait for it.
Miss Snapdragon bent down to be on Kiki's level and leaned forwards.
"You get... to live."
Kiki gasped, her excitement melting away with terror.
"Serves the bitch right." Phoebe chirped.
"Come Kiki, time to head back." Miss Snapdragon said, her vines rewrapped Kikimora and dragged her away.
Miss Snapdragon turned to the human with a smirk.
"The Emperor says he's looking forward to meeting you, human. Until then, happy Coven Day." Miss Snapdragon gave her a nod and she left to go back to the parade.
"I don't get it. Why would Kikimora give up her family for a promotion?" The human was asking.
Argi scoffed, catching the Blight and human's attention.
"That's just Kikimora, Human. She is a greedy little gutstabbing bitch who only cares about herself. What did you expect? Helping someone once would instantly change their entire personality?" She said as she walked towards the couple.
The Blight looked a little confused, "Don't you mean backstabbing?" She asked.
"No. I said gutstabbing and I meant it." She answered.
"Now, onto why I'm here and what you've done to get my attention." With a simple flick of her staff, Argi lifted both of them up and held them above the water.
She chuckled as the human shouted some dialect of spanish at her.
"I would be wiser with my words human, unless you want the Emperor to know about your little portal experiments. I don't think he'd take kindly to finding out what you're doing." She shifted her gaze to the Blight.
"And you, Blight. I know about Eclipse Lake. I know what you did. And I feel that it's the least I can do to warn both of you;" She paused and stalked down the dock towards them.
"If you mess with the Golden Guard, if you ever hurt him or so much as try hurting him, The Emperor is going to be the very least of your concerns. You are going to have to answer to me. And I can be far worse than him." With her threat delivered, Argi dropped both onto the docks and started walking away.
"That's a nice Palisman you have!" The human shouted after her.
Argi stopped and glared over her shoulder. She knew her eyes were red from the reflection on her helmet.
"You know what he does with them, how long until he wants yours?" The human asked.
"My Palisman is safe, they provide a necessary function for myself and she is no ordinary Palisman." She said.
She glared at the human a few seconds longer, then disappeared. She overheard the couple sigh with relief and embrace each other.
XXX
Argi leaned against the chimney of the rooftop she was watching the parade from, she had a good view of everything from her perch. She could see the Owl lady, human, Blight and the Owl lady's demon kid sitting on another rooftop further away from the podium.
Phoebe chirped to get her attention. Kikimora was talking about something, a projection turned on behind her. It was Uncle.
"Thank you, everyone. Together we are perfecting the Coven System as the Titan intended. The Day of Unity will be in exactly two months, when the tide is at it's lowest and the moon obscures the sun. At that time, we will journey to the head of the Isles, and there, the worthy shall inherit a utopia free of wild magic."
Argi felt Phoebe's talons tighten on her shoulder. The crowd gasped.
How is that going to work? She wondered.
"Ignore that! How is it going to affect you? What if it gets rid of Palistrom trees? You'll die! And what about your discharging? Will it get rid of that?" Phoebe squawked.
"Uncle needs Palistrom trees, he'll keep them around. He knows what he's doing, he wouldn't be Emporer if he didn't." She argued.
"Alright, I won't fight you on it, just be cautious." Phoebe rubbed against her cheek.
She rubbed Phoebe's beak and turned back to the projection.
"There is one more thing I'd like to share with you. I've always hidden my face, out of fear. But because of your support, I can finally take off this mask." Uncle was saying.
Argi turned away from the projection to head back to the castle. She needed to talk to someone. Miss Nazik. She hadn't gotten the chance to talk about her bile sack pain since Kiki had stabbed her. Maybe she'd ask uncle about the Day of Unity too.
XXX
"Blue Guard, the Emperor requests your audience." Argi glared at the scout the had intercepted her on her way to see Miss Nazik.
"I'll be on my way then." She tried to keep the frusteration out of her voice.
"I hope he has answers." Phoebe chirped bitterly.
"I'm sure he does." Argi said to try and reassure them.
She entered the throne room, uncle was in his throne, as usual. She walked straight up to him and stopped at the steps to the throne.
"You summoned me, uncle?" She asked.
"Yes, I have something very important for you to do." Uncle stood and motioned for her to follow him.
He started walking towards a side exit, Argi walked quickly to catch up with him. He was heading down to the portal room.
"You meet the human today, right?" Uncle prompted.
"Yes, I did." Argi confirmed with a nod.
"Good, I need you to keep an eye on her and her allies." He said.
Argi blinked in surprise and looked up at him. His face was hard, he was serious. She nodded quickly and put her head down.
"Yes sir, I'll watch them." She said as fast as she could to make up for the blunder.
He stopped, she did too. She instinctively braced herself.
"Is there something you want to ask me, Silver?" He asked.
Argi fiddled with her fingers. She'd wanted to ask about the Day of Unity but now, she felt his cold gaze piercing through her helmet and she didn't want to ask anymore.
"i-I was wondering about the Day of Unity... you said it would eleminate wild magic and I just... IwantedIknowhowitwouldaffectPalisde andPalismanandwhatisgonnahappen." She rushed through the question and waited for his response.
She flinched when he put his hand on her shoulder.
"There's nothing you need to worry about, Silver, everything will work out as the Titan has planned." He told her.
She dared to look up at him, he was smiling. He kept walking, pulling her along with his arm around her.
"Has the Titan told you what will happen yet?" She asked.
"Yes, but he doesn't want anyone to know yet." He nodded.
"Maybe he'll tell me so I can help you better?" She suggested.
Uncle only made a soft hmm.
"There is something you can do for me now." He smiled at her.
He pulled a rolled up paper out of his cape and held it out to her. Her eyes widened when she saw the stamp on it. She knew what it meant.
She took it from him and tucked it into her cape.
"You know what you need to do." He tightened his grip on her shoulder.
"Yes."
XXX
Argi dropped her now bloody sword to the ground. Pain surged from her chest throughout her body, it spiked up and focused on her back. She fell to her knees and grabbed at her chest, she felt like she was going to throw up. She dry heaved and tossed her helmet off.
Phoebe squeaked in concern. The phoenix landed on her head and started rubbing against her horns, as they usually did to help sooth the energy trying to crackles out of her.
Normally, Argi found it helped her and took the pain away. But this time, pain spiked up through her horns where Phoebe touched her. She lurched away with a cry of pain.
"Argi?!" Phoebe shrieked.
Her horns were filled with a throbbing pain, her back too. It felt as if something was trying to force it's way out of her.
Her eyes stung and she wiped yellow tinted tears from them. What? It never comes out of my eyes? What's going on?
She stared at the translucent yellow drop on her finger, then she reached up to feel her horns. They were dry and warm unlike they were supposed to be with her discharge outbursts, where they were cool and wet from the bile waste leaving her.
She slowly turned her head to look at Phoebe, the cyan and red phoenix was giving her a worried look.
"Phoebe, what's happening to me?" She asked desperately.
"I don't really know but I know you will be okay at the end of it." Phoebe said honestly.
Argi leaned forward as another wave of pain washed over her. She felt Phoebe's cool head against her warm one.
"How do I make it stop?" She asked, blinking out her odd, stinging yellow tears.
"I don't think you can." Phoebe answered.
Soft. Feathers. Smoke. Screaming. Burning. Empty black eyes. Crying. Pain. Hurt.
Argi scooped Phoebe into her arms as that violent bit of her past bubbled up.
"I wanna go to sleep, I don wanna be bothered. I don wanna hurt." Argi whispered and pain and exhaustion mixed.
"Then sleep, I'll take you home." Phoebe cooed softly.
"Thanks Phoebe... you the best always..." The young demon murmured as she slipped into a well deserved rest.
Phoebe teleported both of them back to the castle. There, they wriggled out of her grip and took her slightly bloody hood off to be washed, did a check for any urgent injuries and, once they found none, ran their talons through her pink hair, pulling out knots and picking out the little things stuck in it.
They gently scrubbed their beak against her and took off any dirt, grim or blood left from the mission. Then she pulled the favorite fuzzy blanket over their witch and settled down to sleep.
Argi reached out in her sleep and Phoebe took the hint, she nestled theirself in Argi's arms, pulled close to her chest
"Sweet dreams, Argi."

Did you like the Raeda angst I put in there?
And Argi and Raine are friends, Raine used to babysit her sometimes. Argi is a little protective of her friends and those close to her because she knows how easily it can be to get someone killed.
Yes, Belos did hand a thirteen(almost fourteen tbh) year old a hit list while she was trying to have a talk with him.
Argi learned curse words from Phoebe(who is they/her btw) they're an old Palisman. And she's kinda a service animal for Argi, they help monitor her bile sack overproduction and help when she needs it.
This was fun to write, Elsewhere and Elsewhen chapter draft is a lot of fun right now!
I will let you know that I'm making changes to some things that happen to better suit the idea and plan I have for this AU.
Anyway, I hope you have a good time!
VJS out!
