this...fuck. shit. don’t even. look, i used to love lapidot, okay? besides pearlmethyst, it was like the only thing to ship in early 2015. hell, i had it on the same tier as JASPIS, and if you knew how much i still love used to love jaspis, you’d understand how much that means.

part of me knew that it wouldn’t happen in canon because they barely knew each other, and after all, lapis and jasper had wayyy more background together (”background” being lapis drowning jasper in a hell fusion) but honestly canon has never been a huge deal for me. my first real, named OTP was obitine. i was TRAINED to expect disappointment when shipping. so i had my fun and i enjoyed my cute art and hell, i even drew lapidot fanart like forever ago.

believe it or not, when too far hit, i didn’t immediately convert to amedot. it took a couple days as the fan art spread and the theories started cropping up before i started to think, “hey, there’s a peridot ship that actually...might be canon. huh.” but it didn’t affect my views on lapidot yet.

i can’t really name a time when i started hating it. it was definitely after barn mates. when barn mates was leaked in early 2016, i reblogged a post with amedot screenshots next to lapidot screenshots with a caption that said something like “HEAVEN OR HELL?” and my tags were a mess of a ramble about how i liked both equally and could never decide. however, i remember actually WATCHING barn mates and hit the diamond and almost cringing whenever lapis did. like. anything.

sometime between then, it became too much. most likely, it was when people started saying “well forget amedot, our old crackship is canon!!” and i think it really bothered me because what the hell, it’s just a leak guys. shut up already. we had an entire episode about romantic tension between amethyst and peridot and you’re really ready to ship that abusive blue bitch after a fuckin leak? she better have apologized to jasper first.

my shift in opinions was very gradual. but even if it’s small, there’s something intrinsically fucked up when tumblr explodes over two skinny girls interacting for a 7-second clip, but there was only a couple weeks of fan reaction for an 11-minute episode centered on a WOC-coded, fat, mentally ill character.

not enough to call bigotry, maybe. but it just seems a little too coincidental.

everyone knows about the ship war. well, news flash for you: it wasn’t the amedots who started it. it DAMN well wasn’t. there were, like, 15 active amedot fans when it started, since a lot of them moved back to lapidot post-barn mates leak. and once one person sent a hate message, more people (primarily lapidot shippers) started thinking it was ok to send them too.

i’ll stop with the meta about shipping wars though. tl;dr, by barn mates, i was armed with spite and fuckin ready to hate it. and i did. it was painfully clear to me — someone who has been through prolonged emotional abuse that was never put to justice — that lapis never has to apologize for anything. hell, i’d even classify barn mates and too far as direct foils: in too far, peridot unintentionally hurts amethyst, saves her, apologizes and learns from her mistakes. in barn mates, lapis intentionally hurts peridot, saves her, and then FUCKIN WALKS AWAY. how the HELL could we have such a painful dichotomy and choose the one that hurts the characters more?

(and then to have these SAME people who choose the abusive situation turn around and tell jaspis shippers that we’re fucked in the heads? what assholes.)

this is getting rly long and i need to finish writing the petri dish chapter but in conclusion

i used to think that lapidot was ok — when it had no background and a “shit happens” fanbase. but now, the fanbase is a toxic wasteland, their interactions are unhealthy, and it rings wayyy to close to personal issues of mine for me to enjoy.

Joy: What truly makes you happy?Honestly a lot of things do, I can’t just pinpoint it to one single thing. Being able to express myself without being judged at all is one of those things, for sure, and just being able to play Pokémon or Rune Factory!

Happiness: Who are your kin?Like, family members? My mom, my dad, and my younger brother are my immediate family. Outside of them, I’m not really close to any other family member since all my cousins are like, at least ten years older than me, save for three of them. And I’m not even close with those three either.

Beloved: What do you love the most about yourself?I know I complained a lot about the process of getting braces, retainers, sleep guards, all that fun stuff, but I’d say the process of it all was worth it in the end. I love my smile more than anything else about me, and it’s nice to know that even though I went through four years of uncomfortable braces and a weird speaking manner as a result, it was all worth it in the end.

Favorite Music Artist: I don’t really have a favorite, so I’ll just say the band Earth, Wind and Fire.

What you post: Mostly Pokémon stuff, though there is occasionally some art I like or posts relating to other franchises, such as Star Wars or Warriors.

Why did you choose your URL: I originally had a different url, but I liked the sound of “thekantoregion” I think it has a nice ring to it. Kanto is the most iconic region too.

Last movie you watched: Arrival, I thought it was very interesting and thought provoking. A different take on the “big-budget hollywood alien movie.”

Favorite color: I really like most tints and shades of blue, but I also really like the color coral (kind of a orange-y color).

Dream job: An animator.

Favorite character: Gosh, this is tricky. For this, I really do think I’d have to say Ash Ketchum (as cliche as that may be). Pokémon is one of the first shows I think of when I think of my childhood, and Ash is just a really fun and kind of outrageous character. He’s loud, passionate, easily excitable and that kind of reminds me of myself.

Favorite board games/video games: I love playing Head Bands, and Apples to Apples is especially fun. For video games, I think it’s kind of obvious but, yeah it’s Pokémon. My favorite game in the franchise though, that’s another debate. (Probably Moon or Soul Silver).

Last movie you watched: La la land. It was beautiful (I love musicals) and It’s the first movie to make me cry openly. 

What are you wearing right now: Roots olive green sweatpants and a navy blue sweater with white anchors on it.

What do you post: I basically reblog anything I find funny, though sometimes I might write something original.

Why did you choose your URL: I think that midnight is a really romantic time of day, and it’s not even really day, which I also like so put that in and well, I guess the number is just a bit random.

What did your past relationship teach you: Wow. This is tough as about half a year ago my relationship of two years ended horridly. I can’t for sure explain what it taught me, because it’s still teaching me, I am still healing from it, which is frustrating to say the least. It taught me what trusting someone fully was, it taught me what love truly was, because I did and still do fully love him. I know it all sounds cliche, but I will always love him. He was my first love, and that’s probably why I’m still not healed yet. It also taught me what heartbreak is, and about things that I need from a relationship in future that I had never really considered whilst in the relationship. 

Religious or spiritual: Religious. I’m a christian and go to a christian university.

Favorite color: Dark green, it’s such a deep and lovely colour.

Average hours of sleep: 7-9 without taking into account all the times I wake up during the night.

Favorite character: Uhhhhhhhhhh, probably the characters I write in my books, but of actual published works I have always loved and always will love Hermione, as I connect with her the most.

How many blankets do you sleep with: One.

Dream job: Author, Singer, or and Actress. None are very practical, and many of them are more hobbies but hey, if I could make amazing money at any of these I will have a great time doing it. If I have to pick one out of those it would be author. 

Board games, table top, or video games: Video games are really fun but lately I’ve been super into D&D, so I’d have to say table top right now. 

Do you have any OCs: Willow from my book, or Rebekah from my book, both are pretty cool and are exaggerated versions of myself I suppose.

One thing you wish was canon in fiction/fandom: I love Harmione.

Favorite thing to draw/write/think about Painting wise I love landscapes because they don’t have to be as exact as portraits, and I love writing my fantasy novels. Short stories though or poems or blogs that I post here, https://teaandcoldautumndays.blogspot.ca/, are usually about what I am currently experiencing and what I’m learning through it. 

The strangest song you like: I don’t think it’s strange but I do really like pop, and it’s a guilty pleasure of mine, also a lot of 80s pop, like Vogue for example or Take on me, they’re just fun to jam out to. :P
