Healthy &Affordable is a project of Sapient Social & Environmental Enterprises. It saves fruit & vegatables from markets, food which was left unbought, dry them, and package them in biodegradable packaging, to be given for donation at several markets in Amsterdam. Today, right now, we are standing again at Cafe De Ceuvel with the pre-ordered products of our consience people who donate to us. You can order via the BoerenEnBuren platform online, & pickup every Tuesday at De Ceuval or Environmental Enterprises. #healthyandaffordable stood for the first time today at the #boerenenburen local produce market with our dried fruit & nuts!!! Yyyyyyiiiihhhhaaaa!!! People ordered online and paid in advance. Today we went to give them away. Really nice atmosphere and great people. Beside stood people selling their own produced milk and yogurt, plants of many kinds, vegetables from small gardens in Amsterdam, and a guy who bakes bread. The bread guy makes the bread just a few hours before he gives it, and he produces only exactly according to the amount ordered. What a great way to reduce food waste !!! We'll be there every week on Tuesday, from 17:30 to 19:30. Amazing amount of mosquitoes yesterday at sunset, while spreading flyers of @lunchiemarket.nl in the South of Amsterdam for their launch in the Netherlands. The app allows users to find half priced meals from restaurants who have surplus food from the day. Also our Healthy & Affordable nuts & dried fruits could be found soon on the platform. Eat a great meal while saving food from being wasted. NO MORE FOOD WASTE !!!! Best way to save fruit from being wasted? Dry them !! ;-) Here you can see already dried Mandarines (yes, with the skin, the bitter-sweet combination is great !!!), & bananas. And just started to dry, you can see melons, strawberries, & grapes. So easy, & dehydrators don't have to be expensive. At #healthyandaffordable we collect the fruit and dry them, & when ready, we mix them with nuts which we also receive as surplus, instead of them being thrown away & wasted. So many other organisations such as @tastebeforeyouwaste @instock_nl #kromkommer #guerillakitchen and many more are trying to tackle this issue. And still, one of the main problems is consumer awareness. There are many things we could each do.
