10 simple DIY diwali decorations to brighten up your home
Not only is Diwali, the festival of lights, celebrated with sweets, firecrackers, and get-togethers, but we also decorate our homes with colorful and significant decorations.
Even though a lot of us might go out and purchase costly décor, making straightforward Diwali decorations at home is something really unique. These unique elements provide the event comfort, originality, and lots of fun.
We have some lovely, affordable, and simple ideas for decorating your home during Diwali. Let's explore some easy Diwali DIY décor ideas that will enliven your home and create a festive, lighthearted atmosphere.
1 Handmade Diyas (Lamps made of earth)
Diyas, which represent light prevailing over darkness, are an essential part of Diwali decorations. Making your own DIY decorative items can be enjoyable and simple.
What you'll need: little mirrors, glitter, acrylic paints, and basic clay diyas (available at any local store).
How to carry it out: Utilize the clear paints to give the diyas bright colors. To give them more shine, add glitter and tiny ornamental mirrors. Before putting them anywhere in your house, especially around windows, balconies, and openings, let them dry for a few hours.
2 Rangoli flowers
Making rangolis is a long-standing Diwali custom. This year, for a fragrant and new twist, try a floral rangoli in place of colorful powders.
Rose petals, greenery, and marigold flowers are what you'll need.
How to carry it out: Go by hand or pick a simple pattern. Fill the design with vivid flowers after creating the outline with petals or leaves. To further enhance the rangoli's looks place diyas around it. This is an ideal, environmentally friendly method of home décor.
3 Paper Lanterns (Kandils)
Kannil lanterns made of paper
A symbol of Diwali are lanterns, or kandils. Creating them at home is a great way to involve your family in holiday preparations and is also a fun do-it-yourself hobby.
Colorful craft paper, scissors, glue, and string lights are required.
How to carry it out: Keeping an inch or so uncut at the top, fold the paper into a cylindrical form and cut strips along one edge. Press the two corners together to create the shape of a lantern. To create a cozy glow, you can suspend these lanterns from your windows or balconies and use string lights inside.
4 Decorative Toran (Door Hangings)
It's common to greet visitors at the door with a lovely toran during Diwali. Why not construct a personalized toran at home instead of purchasing one?
What you'll need: vibrant beads or bells, marigold flowers, and fresh mango leaves.
How to carry it out: Tie the blossoms and leaves of the mangos alternately with a cord. To make it seem more ornamental, you may also add beads or little bells. To attract luck and good vibes, hang it over your door frame.
5 Diwali Themed Wall Art
Consider creating wall art with a Diwali theme if you're feeling a little more imaginative. This could be a transient masterpiece created with easily available materials.
Colorful paper, scissors, glue, and a cardboard or canvas are required.
How to carry it out: Cut out designs of fireworks, diyas, and other Diwali decorations. Put them in the appropriate order and adhere them to the canvas to make your own unique wall art. To add a festive feel to your house, you can display this artwork in your dining room or living room.
6 Eco-Friendly Orange Peel Diyas
Eco-Friendly Orange Peel Diyas
Do you want to try something completely different? How about utilizing orange peels to make eco-friendly diyas?
Oranges, oil, and wicks are required.
How to carry it out: Halve an orange and remove the center, being careful to preserve the peel. Insert a wick in the peel's center after adding oil to it. Enjoy the gentle, organic glow after lighting the wick. Not only is this eco-friendly decorating idea sustainable, but it also gives your house a new scent.
7 Upcycled Bottle Lights
recycle old glass bottles into illuminated wall hangings rather than discarding them.
String lights and empty glass bottles are required.
How to carry it out: Plug in the string lights that you've placed inside the bottle. These glowing bottles may light up a dark nook or make stunning centrepieces for your Diwali celebration.
8 Decorative Candles with Rice
A little innovation may transform plain candles into festive ones. Try making lovely candle holders using rice and food coloring.
Simple white rice, food coloring, glass bowls, and candles are required.
How to carry it out: To create several color variations, combine food coloring with rice. In a glass bowl, arrange the colored rice in layers and center with a candle. This brilliant DIY decoration is ideal for giving your house an update of color.
Conclusion
Try your hand at these easy DIY Diwali decorations this year instead of spending on bought from a store decorations. They will not only help you save money, but they will also give your celebrations a warm, individual touch. Additionally, by including your family—especially the younger ones—in these activities, you may make the event even more meaningful.

Merry recycled and sustainable Christmas everyone. Some of this was made by me, some by China and all of it was put together by yours truly. It brings peace to me heart that in all the red gold silver green consumerist hell unleashed by Christmas, I kept it simply green. I don't even celebrate Christmas...neither does my Church, but my flatmate loves festivals and cheerfulness, so all this one was largely for her.
Tumblr media
This stand is a shoe rack, and thanks to cheap Chinese production, it is no good for storing shoes. It worked to create 3-dimensional Christmas decor, though. The dish contains 2 electric candles, some leaves from a fake plant and 2 cherries from the wreath outside our door. The mini Christmas tree--a last-minute purchase because my flatmate loves Christmas trees--is wrapped in the same silver twine used to suspend the ornaments. And that bottle is a jam bottle. I painted some snow and tied a ribbon near the mouth. Put in a tea light.
Tumblr media
I made all of this! Youtube is awash with DIY Christmas decor videos. All the moms who have had to make craft projects for their under-5 kids have capitalized on the season's madness. The paper craft thingies were easy to make, requiring just chart paper, glue, string, and ribbon. I couldn't resist putting in the Star of David...because Jesus was a Jew. The stars were made from the leftover cuttings of the other paper craft!
Tumblr media
Yep, paper craft snowflake acting like a star. In India, for Diwali, people put up lanterns at their windows to celebrate the return of the good king Rama from exile. To be one with everyone around them, Christians put up a star outside their windows--the star that the Magis followed.
Tumblr media
And the wreath at the door. You can't see it, but the stuffing underneath is plastic bags. I used metal wire to provide a solid shape, and wrapped tinsel around it. The snowflake, bell and cherries came from the market unfortunately, but I will take them to next Christmas.
Merry Christmas everyone. Side note: Yeshua aka Jesus, wasn't born on 25 December, and Messianic Jews can explain why, but don't let a little detail get in the way of your festive bacchanalia. As always, keep it green.

Festive Decor Ideas For Indian Homes
Festivals are the spirit of India. It brings fun, enthusiasm, and is a new beginning. But this year it is different. Due to the outbreak of COVID-19 celebrations are no longer like before. However, one thing which hasn’t changed is the warmth of being at your own home with your family. To add more to it SBP group shares with you some Festive decor ideas to revamp your house for this festive season.
Tumblr media
Choose some handmade accessories
You can go classic and stylish with some hand-crafted decoration pieces. There are multiple options available on the market, in different sizes, styles, materials, tones of color, and placements. Instead of going out to purchase this, you can order them online in the comfort and safety of your home.
DIY Diwali Toran
The Diwali festival is all about lights and colors. And because quarantine has helped people in reviving the artist inside of them, you can go for some DIY projects for home décor. Torans are positioned to welcome visitors at the entrance of a house and create a festive atmosphere. There’s a simple and fascinating way to build Torans for your house if you are passionate and imaginative.
Using recyclable materials like cardboard, crafted paper, excess ornaments, etc., you can create your Toran very quickly. All you have to do is decorate lights, waste ornaments, etc. with bits of cardboard. This will facilitate recycling and build a nice festive decor.
Options for home lighting for the festive season
In the living room, fairy lights can be used. They may be placed or put up against the wall along with the coffee table. As candles make a wonderful item of festive decor, you can use the scented candle in different areas of the house. Fragrant of the candles create a wonderful aroma which engulfs your room.
Diyas can add to your home’s glamour as well. There is also a deeper meaning attached to lighting a Diya. It is said that they reflect the transformation from darkness to light. You can uniquely organize Diyas for Diwali and let them float in a bowl filled with water and beautiful flower petals. If you have an unused large copper or ceramic bowl, you can put it to use by giving it a makeover with petals and Diyas.
Light diyas, not just close to the temple, but at the doorway. When placing diyas close to the main door, windows, or in the temple, keep security in mind. Opt for glass-covered diyas.
Decorate temple
The pooja room and the temple are the most ideal location to decorate your home at Diwali. Laxmi pooja is the major part of the Diwali celebration which takes place in a temple pooja space. You can decorate the temple with flower arrangements, such as roses, marigolds, and mogras for it. Write ‘Shubh Labh’ with Kum Kum on the white paper and keep it near the Lakshmi idol or photo.
Rangoli
Rangoli is an antiquated Hindu floor art, in which colored rice, colored sand, and flower petals are used to create patterns. With a hand-drawn rangoli to depict a traditional floor mat, this Diwali, create art of your own. Rangoli has been through years of Indian tradition just to ward off evil spirits, such as the daily white easy to elaborate decoration outside many Indian homes, but continues today even more as a celebrated art that women love to practice.
It also has a deeper significance. Rites, offerings, functions of the festival, social occasions, Rangoli augurs well for the house and wherever it is placed and is a welcome sign of good news and blessings from God.
Decorate with colors
The best time of the year to show colors in your living room is Diwali. As a simple hack for the living room, you can use handmade lanterns in green, purple-red, and blue colors, neatly hung from a string, straight across a wall. Home Decor of a beautiful handmade chandelier, made with various colored crepe paper and shiny streamers that will add to the beautiful and colorful Diwali theme, can also be positioned from the center of the ceiling.
Make it a green Diwali, with plants in beautiful pots, decorating the inner and outdoor areas of your house. Arrange lighting and lamps to emphasize the freshness of plants strategically. .The advantage of plant decoration is that you do not have to move it even if the festival is over.
We hope that these festive decor ideas help you in getting in the mood of festivals and also in making your home look astonishing. Remember to be safe and celebrate your festive season while taking care of your health.
