Sept 23, a note from Jonny and a few updates.
Hey Church, It is a little staggering to think of how fast time is flying, summer is over, school is 5 weeks in, East Ave has planted two home churches, and we are about have our second Resurrection Celebration. I often find myself so focused on goals, to do’s, and what’s ahead that I miss what is happening all around us right now, but with a moment to ponder on all that's happened its apparent that we are in the midst of beautiful territory. We have never been big on numbers at East Ave, because we have seen them manipulate and displace the heart of community. And, in truth I am not sure its an effective measurement for the substance of a community, so instead we measure the richness and depth of conversation by the amount of coffee brewed and the transformative working of the Gospel by the live immersion into the City. Numbers can’t track that and no amount of effective promotion can induce that, and thats why its beautiful territory because it’s the territory of providence, the land between our abilities and God’s intervention. It’s a place I’d like to invite you to, for its the place of transformation. Its the place of honest community. -Jonny Here are some updates and announcements on what’s new for East Ave: Resurrection Celebration, Midvale Theater, 7711 S Main Street, October 2nd @ 4:00pm Join us as we worship together with song, art, teaching, and communion. This will give us a chance to celebrate resurrection together and refocus the rhythms of our busy lives on Christ. We need volunteers! If you are interested in getting involved and helping make this event amazing, please let us know. We need help with communion, prayer, greeting, setting-up, etc... Click here to see the Resurrection Celebration event on Facebook. *NEW* Basic Series, Location TBA, October 9th @ 4:00pm *NEW* Join East Ave for our very first class covering some of the basic, overlooked, and essential elements of the way of Jesus. For our first class we are going to be looking at the story of God; what it means, why it matters, and whether or not we can know it's true. Why? Because at the heart of the way of Jesus is a story, a story of reconciliation and love. It's a story that creates within us an imagination for doing life, but if the story isn't true or if our understanding of the story is off then so is our imagination, the way we see God, ourselves, and the world. Taylorsville Home Church, 3411 W 5775s, Mondays @ 7:00pm (Study of John, John 6:1-21) Downtown Home Church, 618 S Elizabeth Street, Tuesdays @ 7:00pm (Study of John, John 6:1-21) We do home church because we are firm advocates of the belief that spirituality starts in the here and in the now, in the temporal or mundane, in eating and drinking, and in fellowship and conversation. Each week we get to practice the way of Jesus in these seemingly ordinary actions, and each week the subversive beauty of sharing life together is made manifest. Outreach/Service Activity, Monday Oct 10th @ 7:00pm We're getting together a group of East Avers to come up with some new and exciting ways to serve Salt Lake City and share the gospel. Meetings will take place Wednesday nights at 9pm, if you're interested in joining the planning party let us know by sending an e-mail to any of us or to [email protected] . May you experience God’s work this week in a way that awes and inspires, transforming all of us into the image of Christ Jesus,
As always, we are praying for you, The East Avenue Leadership Team
