Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour – Swifties and a History of Creative Fan-Fashion
As our inaugural post highlighted, fashion thrives within the realm of music. Artists – more precisely those who are able to express a clear artistic vision aside from their sound alone – trace footsteps that, if defined enough, can be easily followed by their own fanbase. A great example are Swifties, Taylor Swift’s most devoted fans.
As Swift is taking over North America one stadium at a time with her Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour tour, Swifties are taking the internet by storm as they flood any and every social media platform with photos of their intricate outfits crafted specifically for the tour stop they are planning to attend.
A long-running tradition in the Miss Americana’s fanbase, Swift's fans are known for their immense creativity and commitment to producing the perfect embodiment of their favourite Taylor Swift moments. Most fans take the chance to recreate some of Swift’s most iconic looks both on and off stage, like the ones that follow in the gallery below.
Some Swifties like to take a more creative path, crafting their looks after specific lyrics in Swift's discography. Examples from above include group costumes, another way for fans to come together and celebrate the bonds they have created with fellow Swift enthusiasts.
For those who aren't as familiar with the Taylor Swift Lore, what follows is a brief guide to the looks above:
Bailey's Eras Tour take on an outfit from the Look What You Made Me Do music video ('reputation' Era, 2017)
Matching outfits inspired by the line "I once was poison ivy, but now I'm your daisy" from track Don't Blame Me on the 2017 album 'reputation'
Group outfit inspired by the chorus from track Karma on the 2022 album 'Midnights'
Stefanie's couple costume inspired by the line "He was sunshine, I was midnight rain" from track Midnight Rain on the 2022 album 'Midnights'
Recreation of the outfit Swift wore to the 2022 MTV VMAs afterparty in August of 2022
Another ongoing tour tradition for Swifties is one that was started by Swift herself. Back in 2009, during her Speak Now Tour, Swift would draw the number 13 on the back of her hand using sharpie, glue, and an abundance of glitter: "The significance of the number 13 on my hand...I paint this on my hand before every show because 13 is my lucky number for a lot of reasons - it's really weird" (Swift for MTV, 2009). Swift may have stopped applying the shimmering lucky number on her own hand, but her fans ensure the tradition will withstand the test of time by wearing the number with pride – a badge of honour that reminds them they're part of something monumental.

A Game of Thrones 10th Anniversary Season Ranking: Part 2
Link to Part 1
Time for the bottom half of the list. The four seasons here will surprise no one, but the order might.
#5 Season 6
You can tell what I most what to talk about here...but there's an order to these things.
S6 actually has a bunch of great ideas, but they drown beneath the most slapdash plotting and character work the show has seen yet in order to set the stage for the narrower conflicts of the last two seasons. It's notorious for bringing back characters who haven't been seen in a season or longer only to kill them off (Balon Greyjoy, Osha, Hodor, the Blackfish, Rickon, Walder Frey) or awkwardly graft them back into the main plot (Sandor Clegane, Bran). There are plot threads that ought to be compelling but are too rushed in execution, like the siege of Riverrun, Littlefinger's hand in the Battle of the Bastards, or Daenerys's time back among the Dothraki and then finally getting the hell out of Meereen. Arya hits on the only interesting part of her two-season sojourn in Braavos - a stage play, of all things - only for it to stumble at the end with a disappointing offscreen death and some incomprehensible philosophy ahead of the start of her murder tour of Westeros. There's also so much cutting off the branches, enough to be conspicuous; the final shot of Daenerys leading an armada of about half the remaining cast she assembled partially offscreen says that better than anything else. Well, not anything....
Highlight: Without exaggeration, the opening of S6E10 is easily my favorite sequence in all of GoT. The staging, the music, the mounting suspense even as it becomes increasingly obvious what's about to happen, the twisted religious references particularly in Cersei's mock confession to Unella, Tommen throwing himself out a window because he can't deal with the reality of how terrible his mother is, how Cersei gives absolutely no fucks whatsoever about murdering hundreds of people at once in a calculated act of vengeance largely prompted by her own poorly thought out actions - I love it all. It's the single most masterfully-executed act of villainy in the whole show - Daenerys torching King's Landing probably has a higher body count, but the presentation there is all muddled - and if I had any doubts about Cersei being my favorite multi-season major character they were silenced in this moment. The explosion of the Sept doesn't sit perfectly with me, because I liked the Tyrells and because of what I said about deaths like theirs and Renly's in the previous post under S2, but I think that unease only cements the strength of this sequence. It's an overused phrase in fandom these days, but GoT at its best is all about moral greyness that gives its audience room for multilayered reactions. Cersei nuking the Sept and making herself the sole power in King's Landing, which in a sense is just a more overt example of the kind of character/plot consolidation elsewhere represented by Daenerys's armada, is one of those events that's impossible to approach from a single angle if you care about any of the characters involved. And hey, it's not in the books (yet, presumably), so unlike Ned's death or the Red Wedding the GoT showrunners can take the credit for realizing this one.
Favorite death: Even leaving aside the Sept and related deaths there's a lot of good ones to choose from in S6. Ramsey is cathartic but too gory for me, Osha's was a clever callback but a little delayed, it's hard to pin down specific deaths when Daenerys incinerates the khals, and Arya only gets half credit for Walder Frey and his sons when she saves the rest of the house for the opening of S7. I'm thinking Hodor, not so much because I enjoy his character or the manner of his death but because it's a clever bit of playing with language (that must have been hell to render in other languages for dubbing) wrapped up in some entertainingly murky consent issues and some closed time loop weirdness. It's all very...extra? Is that the word for it?
Least favorite death: Offscreen deaths continue to be mostly letdowns, in this case Blackfish and the Waif. Way to botch the ending of Arya's already near-pointless Braavos arc, guys. Speaking of Arya, this spot goes to Lady Crane, whom the Waif somehow kills with a stool or something. It's a dumb way to send off an entertaining minor character.
#6 Season 8
I swear that I'm not putting S8 this high solely because of Jonmund kind of sort of happening. I've never been very interested in either of them and the sex would be far too bear-on-otter to suit my pornographic preferences, but even so the choice to close out the series with them is hilarious.
I really don't need to elaborate on why S8 is down here; everyone who's ever watched the show has done as much in the nearly two years since it wrapped up. I do however need to explain why I've ranked not one but two seasons below it. My biggest argument here is that I don't believe it's fair to critique S8 for problems it inherited from earlier seasons. A non-comprehensive list:
Mad Queen Daenerys: unevenly built up beginning from S1 and continuing in some form through every following season
The questionable racial optics of Dany's army: also seeded as early as S1 and solidified by S3 with the Slaver's Bay arc
Cersei only succeeding because she makes stupid decisions and then lucks out until she doesn't: apparent from S1, directly lampshaded by Tywin in S3, fully on display with the Faith Militant arc of S5-6
Jaime not getting a redemption arc or falling in love with Brienne: evident with his repeated returns to Cersei throughout the show as one of the most consistent elements of his character, particularly in S4 and during the siege of Riverrun in S6
Tyrion grabbing the idiot ball/becoming a flat audience surrogate mouthpiece: started in S5 around the time the showrunners ran out of book material for him and wanted to make him more of a PoV character and his arc less of a downward spiral, although I've seen arguments that changes from the books involving his Tysha story and Shae set him on this trajectory even earlier
The hardening of Sansa's character: began in earnest in S4 and never let up from there
The strange ordering of antagonists: set down by S7's equally strange plot structure - the Night King had to come first with that setup
CleganeBowl and the dumber twists: from what I've heard the whole thing of writing around fans on the internet guessing plot twists started pretty much when the book content ended, so S5-6 maybe?
Yes, there's plenty to criticize about S8 on its own merits...but just as much that was merely the writers doing what they could at that point with deeply flawed material.
Highlight: This may sound cheesy, but the better parts of S8 are almost all the cinematic ones, whether that's E2 being a bottle episode with tons of poignant character send-offs before the big battle, a handful of deaths with actual satisfying weight like Jorah's and Theon's, and an epilogue that incorporates both closure for individuals and the broader uncertainty of messy socio-political systems that GoT has always been known for before working its way back to the Starks at the very end for some tidy bookending. Even imperfect moments like the Lannister twins' death and the resolution of Sansa's character felt weighty and appropriate based on what had come before.
Favorite death: Forget about the audio commentary attempting to flatten Cersei's character; Cersei and Jaime Lannister have an excellent end. Cersei especially, as the scenes of her stumbling her way down into the catacombs as the Red Keep crashes down around her really show off how her world is abruptly falling apart and how she retreats into her own self-interest at the end in spite of her demise being at least partially of her own doing. There's some stupid moments associated with these scenes, like Jaime dueling Euron to the death and CleganeBowl, but I can excuse those when the twins end up dying exactly where you'd expect them to: in each other's arms, in a ruined monument to their family's grand ambitions that, like Casterly Rock itself, was taken from another family.
Least favorite death: Quite a few dumb ones in S8 have become forever infamous. Missandei sticks out, and for me Varys too just as much because of how the writing pushes him to do the dumbest thing he could possibly do purely for the sake of killing him off ten minutes into the penultimate episode. But no one belongs here more than Daenerys Targaryen, killed at the height of a rushed and uncertain villain reveal by a man who takes advantage of their romantic history (who is also her family, because Targaryens) to stab her in a moment of vulnerability - pretty much only because another man tells him that Daenerys is the final boss. Narratively speaking that might be the case, but even so this is the end result of multiple seasons of middling-to-bad buildup. Not even Drogon burning the symbolism can salvage that. Also Fire Emblem: Three Houses did this scene and did it better.
#7 Season 5
...Yeah, we're going to have to go there.
Sansa's rape is not a plot point that personally touches me much. It's terribly framed in the moment and the followup in later seasons is inconsistent at best, but it's not a kind of trauma I can relate to. On the other hand, in the very same episode Loras is tried and imprisoned for homosexuality, and Margery faces the same punishment for lying for her brother. That hits much closer to home, not just for the homophobia but also for the culture war undertones of the not!French Tyrells persecuted by a not!Anglo fanatic who later reveals himself to be the in-universe equivalent of a Protestant. The trial is just one part of Cersei's shortsighted scheming, just as Sansa being married off to Ramsey is part of Littlefinger's, and both of them get their comeuppance in the end...but it's unsettling all the same. I especially hate what the Faith Militant arc does to King's Landing in S5, swiftly converting it from my favorite setting in GoT to a tense theocratic nightmare that only remains interesting to me because Cersei is consistently awesome. What's more, pretty much everything about S5 that isn't viscerally uncomfortable is dragged out and dull instead: the Dorne arc, Daenerys's second season in Meereen, Arya in Braavos, Stannis and co. at Castle Black. The most any of these storylines can hope for is some kind of bombastic finale, and while several of them deliver it's not enough to make up for what comes before, or how disappointing everything here builds from S4. S4 has Oberyn, S5 has the Sand Snakes - I think that sums up the contrast well.
Highlight: S5 does get stronger near the end. As much as his character annoys me I did like the High Sparrow revealing his pseudo-Protestant bent to Cersei just before he imprisons her, and there's a cathartic rawness to Cersei's walk of atonement where you can both feel her pain and humiliation and understand that she's getting exactly what she deserves (and this is what leads into the climax of S6, so it deserves points just for that). The swiftness of Stannis's fall renders his death and that of his family a bit hollow, but it's brutal and final and fittingly ignominious for a character with such grand ambitions but so little relevance to the larger story. The fighting pits of Meereen sequence is cinematic if nothing else, and even the resolution to the Dorne arc salvages the whole thing a tiny bit by playing into the retributive cycles of vengeance idea (and Myrcella knows about the twincest and doesn't care, aww - no idea why that stuck with me, but it's cute all the same). Oh, and Hardhome...it's alright. Not great, not crap, but alright.
Favorite death: I don't know why, but Theon tossing Myranda to her death is always funny to me. Maybe because it's so unexpected?
Least favorite death: Arya's execution of Meryn Trant is meant to be another one of the season's big finale moments, but the scene is graphic and goes on forever and I can't help but be grossed out. This is different from, say, Shireen's death, which is supposed to be painful to witness.
#8 Season 7
I can't tell if S7's low ranking is as self-explanatory as S8's or not. At least one recent retrospective on GoT's ruined legacy I've come across outright asserts that S7 is judged less harshly in light of how bad S8 was. If it were not immediately obvious by where I've placed each of them, I don't share that opinion.
Because S7 is just a mess, and the drop-off in quality is so much more painful here than it is anywhere else in the series except maybe from S4 to S5 (and that's more about S4 being as good as it is). The pacing ramps up to uncomfortable levels to match the shortened seasons, the structure pivots awkwardly halfway through from Daenerys vs. Cersei to Jon/Dany caring about ice zombies, said pivot relies largely on characters (mostly Tyrion) making a series of catastrophically stupid tactical decisions, and very few of the smaller set pieces land with any real impact as the show's focus narrows to its endgame conflict. As with S6 there are still some good ideas, but they're botched in execution. The conflict between Sansa and Arya matches their characters, but the leadup to that conflict ending with Littlefinger's execution is missing some key steps. Daenerys's diverse armada pitted against Cersei weaponizing the xenophobia of the people of King's Landing could have been interesting, but there's little room to explore that when Cersei keeps winning only because Tyrion has such a firm grip on the idiot ball and when Euron gets so much screentime he barely warrants. Speaking of Tyrion's idiot ball, does anyone like the heist film-esque ice zombie retrieval plotline? Its stupidity is matched only by its utter futility, because Cersei isn't trustworthy and nobody seems to ever get that.
And how could I forget Sam's shit montage? Sums up S7 perfectly, really. To think that that is part of the only extended length of time the show ever spends in the Reach....
Highlight: A handful of character moments save this season from being irredeemable garbage. As you can guess from my screencap choice, Olenna's final scene is one of them, even if Highgarden itself is given insultingly short shrift. S7 also manages what I thought was previously impossible in that it makes me care somewhat about Ellaria Sand, courtesy of the awful death Cersei plans for her and her remaining daughter. The other Sand Snakes are killed with their own weapons, which shows off Euron's demented creativity if nothing else. I like the entertainingly twisted choice to cut the Jon/Dany sex scene with the reveal that they're related. And, uh...the Jonmund ship tease kind of makes the zombie retrieval team bearable? I'm really grasping at straws here.
Favorite death: It's more about her final dialogue with Jaime than her actual death, but again I'm going to have to highlight Olenna Tyrell here for lack of better options. She drops the bombshell about Joffrey that the audience figured out almost as soon as it happened but still, makes it plain what I've been saying about how Jaime's arc has never really been about redemption, and is just about the only person to ever call Cersei out for that whole mass murder thing. There's a reason "I want her to know it was me" became a meme format.
Least favorite death: There aren't any glaringly bad deaths in S7, just mediocre or unremarkable ones. I still think the decision to have Arya finish off House Frey in the season's opening rather than along with their father at the end of S6 was a strange one that doesn't add much of dramatic value.

If there was ever a series today more appropriately titled to convey its value, it’s Timeless because that’s what this show has been from its very first episode, which is a rare treat in and of itself. I expected to like Timeless sure, but sixteen episodes later I didn’t expect to call it the best thing on network television. I didn’t expect to rally everyone I know to watch it because it’s that great and worthy of such praise. But here I am, I’ve done my part to tell everyone I know in person, and I’m now here to convince you, internet. Also, I can vouch not every TV show I watch, no matter how great is for everyone, but sometimes, just sometimes, if you could find at least three reasons to cling onto something then who knows what it could do for you. So without further ado, here are 10 reasons why Timeless is the show we should all be watching.
1. History
History may not be everyone’s favorite subject to dive into, but it’s of such monumental importance that the knowledge of it, even in its most simple form is absolutely necessary. And Timeless gives us history in a way that’s easy to remember, in a way that’s fun, and if I were still studying, I’d be so much more eager to continue learning about the time period we travel to. While history is altered to meet the premise of the series, where legitimate facts are considered, it remains untouched, and to determine which is true or false is always a fun little aspect within the series — at least for me it is. Who doesn’t love research? (No, I’m not being sarcastic.)
2. Friendships
Is there anything more important than friendships? No, no there isn’t. And for those who aren’t new here, you already know how much they mean to me, for those who don’t, it’s a lot. We are who we are because of the people we love, the people we’ll ceaselessly fight to protect, and the people we’ll follow to the ends of the earth — The Time Team is the best team. I will praise any friendship that’s built on honesty and adoration, but I will also praise any friendship that’s constantly growing, and where the Time Team is concerned, this is just the beginning of the solidifying the inimitable bond between them. Within 16 episodes they’ve already showcased the great lengths they’re willing to go for one another, and they’ve taken the time to get to know each other to the core, validating the fact that in a dark world, this team is forever. This team is a family.
3. Unapologetically Honest
This is it, folks — my absolute favorite thing about this show. History was ugly. History was dark. Our world is dark. Our world is ugly. Our world is racist. History was ridiculously racist. History wasn’t kind or accepting of women. Our world isn’t always kind and accepting of equality for women. And Timeless tells it how it is. It reminds us of the just how dark the world was and how easily it’s erased people of color from our history in the media. Fun fact, The Lone Ranger was black! A fact we came to learn in an episode of Timeless that refused to erase the truth. The monumental changes in our world will come from the moments in media where we acknowledge the truth, and a series like Timeless is easily a step in the right direction. In the first episode alone, there’s a remarkable monologue from Malcolm Barrett’s character Rufus that will absolutely floor you. I can promise this.
4. Character Driven
I am the first to admit that I have dropped shows that weren’t driven by the characters because the stories flopped as a result. They aren’t easy to watch — it feels as though the episode is never-ending and not in a good way. But where Timeless is concerned, its stories are told through the characters. The characters are the very heart of the series allowing their circumstances to pave the road towards an intriguing plot that’s flowing gracefully without a ridiculous attempt to “shock” the audience. Because when Timeless wants to give us something to come back to, a cliffhanger or a plot twist, they’ve done so in a way that’s felt incredibly organic as opposed to a plot device that needlessly wants to pull its characters through the ringer solely for the purpose of appearing “unique” or “dark and gritty”. Eric Kripke and Shawn Ryan care more intently for the intricate stories their characters are telling as opposed to utilizing plot devices that don’t often work for the benefit of the series in the long run.
5. The Performances
I’ve always been a fan of Abigail Spencer’s work, but apart from her, I had no idea what else would be in store on Timeless. And each performer, Spencer included, has easily made me feel so deeply, it’s been captivating to watch. Malcolm Barrett has made me cry more times than I can recall. Matt Lanter can speak so well with his expressions it’s left me in awe. Goran Višnjić has made Garcia Flynn the most enamoring, multifaceted TV villain I’ve seen in years. Timeless is filled with performance so riveting that when reviewing, I’ve had to make sure I single someone out during each episode because they’re constantly deserving of the praise. And while the core cast is a gifted group of individuals, the guest stars often portraying historical figures have effortlessly managed to layer their characters in a matter so fantastic, you won’t want to see them go.
6. Action
There’s something for all and if you’re the kind person who longs for some fascinating action sequences in a series, Timeless has got you covered on that ground, too. I mean, we have a soldier as our leader so, we were bound to get action, and the series handles it so well. Timeless makes action fun, much like a lot of superhero movies it doesn’t get too gritty or reach a point where it’s uncomfortable to watch for the faint at heart. And personally, I’ll always take that over the darker action sequences.
7. Light | Balance
Timeless is hysterical. There’s not been a single episode that hasn’t made me laugh at least once or twice in the midst of all the chaos the characters are living through. And while humor brings light, so does heart — the exploration of real human emotions, insecurities, relationships, and realizations easily plays a role in reminding viewers of the little things we must look towards in life. There’s light in the character interactions. There’s light in the moments of pure bliss that comes from meeting historical figures the time team has always admired. There’s light in making significant changes. There’s light in the stories our characters tell in their quest towards righting wrongs and making the world they live in a better place. There’s light in the Star Wars references. There’s light in honesty. And Timeless creatures have made sure to balance this aspect of the series within the already intense storyline perfectly.
8. Love Story
For all my hopeless romantics out there that need great “ships” to ship, Timeless has us covered in that area, too. The gorgeously established relationship between Rufus and Jiya is just about the sweetest thing you’ll ever see. The blossoming romance between Lucy and Wyatt is everything I didn’t know I needed. It involves undercover lovers, friends — best trope ever, am I right or am I right? Then there’s Garcia Flynn’s quest to avenge his wife and daughter that’ll break your heart more times than it’ll make you angry.
9. Lucy Preston
Each and every character on this show is incredible, so effortlessly lovable, but I personally need to single out Lucy for how well she’s written. Lucy isn’t fearless. She isn’t a superhero. She isn’t perfect. But she’s so remarkably realistic and it leaves me consistently inspired because of how easily she’s relatable to a number of women. She’s afraid of things. She’s a giant nerd. She’s unapologetically excited about what she cares for. And she’s so emphatic it breaks me. TV series are doing a great job of putting women front and center of their stories, and I for one am always so captivated by how multifaceted they each can be. In writing real, relatable women, we’re bringing light into a world that refuses to acknowledge worth and value. And Lucy Preston is a woman with so many enthralling stories to tell.
10. Fashion
Oh my goodness, the costumes! This is probably the funnest part of time travel because the wardrobe is so fascinating to explore. And it’s a crucial part of the series because as a historian, Lucy is always adamant on them getting everything right, but also, sometimes Wyatt pitches in, too adding on the series’ light wonderfully. (I also want the entire wardrobe so there’s that.)
Have I convinced you yet? Timeless has something for everyone. There are very few series out there with as much as heart as this show, and for those who love This is Us, Timeless has just as many emotions to offer. It succeeds in intricate, detailed story telling without ever losing sight of the characters that drive the show. It battles with human emotions in a way that’s so organic, so raw, you don’t want to miss it. It deals with significant issues that our world faces daily in a way that’s bound to profoundly inspire because it glosses over nothing. The truth is laid bare and the series is as compelling as one can be. The exploration of fate vs. free will leave you thinking for hours on end. Timeless does it all, beautifully and meticulously — it’s a show with profoundly moving, potently great stories to tell. For more on Timeless, check out our reviews here. We’ve also got to separate articles on Rufus Carlin and Wyatt Logan for our #100DaysofFanFavorites project. Lucy Preston’s will be coming soon to a computer screen near you. P.S. all 16 episodes are now on Hulu* and season two will premiere Sunday March 11 on NBC — get to watching, my darlings.
(*NBC also has the episodes in OnDemand, and streaming on their website, and outside the US, I believe S1 is available on Netflix!
Found families, friendship, romance, adventure with a heart, a wonderfully layered heroine (and other great ladies!), dynamic heroes (I recommend reading their articles about Rufus and Wyatt too, as they express many of the ways they defy tropes and many of the reasons why they’re both such good and multifaceted men) and complex villains, history with an emphasis on women and POC, beautiful costumes and production design and cinematography, a delightful cast, it’s all here!)

Wednesday Roundup
The late but always reliable reviewer Rena is here today. I sat on this one for a while considering the... internet-wide discussion we all are a part of now given Marvel’s recent revelations from this particular Wednesday, and the fact that I have a Marvel comic (even if only one) on my Roundups today made me somewhat reluctant to fully get into this, but I had, personally, a good Comic Day and I would hate to waste the opportunity to share the good in comics going on right now with all of you. So we’ll see how everything stacks up, and just how I’ll be handling Roundups in the future as a result of the current... nastiness, we’ll call it.
DC’s Batwoman, Image’s Descender, Marvel’s Invincible Iron Man, DC’s Super Sons, DC’s Superman, DC’s Superwoman, DC’s Trinity
DC’s Batwoman (2017- ) #2 Marguerite Bennet, James Tynion IV, Steve Epting, Jeromy Cox
As worried as I was with the Batwoman: Rebirth issue -- and I think I laid out my concerns pretty fairly, I have to fully admit that my worries have been almost entirely subsided as we go forward starting with this issue.
I always have this concern when there’s a continued revisionist history of a character’s origins that we’re going to be falling into a Donna Troy affect -- where every author is more interested in retelling and retconning her history than actually allowing the character to be who she is and moving forward from there. A problem in comics that disproportionally affects female characters if you’re sharp enough to notice such things.
This issue really helped me to put down that worry mostly because while, yes, we are revisiting Kate’s past for the hundredth time in the last ten years, the story proper is actually pushing us and her forward rather readily while not shying away from the aspects of Kate that make her Kate.
Her loyalty, her issues with commitment, her homosexuality -- everything comes into play this issue and leaves us itching for more involving these Many Arms of Death plot overall. I’m very excited about this comic and am so glad that Maguerite Bennet is becoming such a good fit for it.
Image’s Descender (2015- ) #21 Jeff Lemire, Dustin Nguyen
So I just recently got caught up on Descender in time to review the newest issue the week it came out, so I have to give major thanks to @feministbatman for recommending this comic to me. What can I say, you know me so very well and my love for robots and sci-fi has been incredibly rewarded for it.
This issue was another brilliant one, we had Tim-22′s reveal and takeover of the ship, but we also got to see a lot more development of Andy and Effy thanks to Bandit’s little vision quest of sorts for us.
But of course the most anticipated and worrisome part of all of this is worrying for Tim-21 who is still in Psius’ hands and at the heart of the Havester plot that keeps on thickening.
It’s hard to say much else.
I will say that while I’ll always be a fan of Nguyen’s signature style, I do find at times the choice to make this entire comic watercolor rather than more inked and refined does do some disservice to certain moments I think could benefit from having stronger color and more definition to them, but that’s a general criticism I’ll probably dive more into with the wrap up of this arc.
Marvel’s Invincible Iron Man (2016- ) #6 Brian Michael Bendis, Stefano Caselli, Marte Garcia
An entirely all-female supporting cast to a female Black superheroine Ironheart with our token dude (Tony) being a computer AI. It’s the setup dreams are made of and I love how much love Riri is getting in the media and the world for her choices here.
It’s also incredibly relatable how she reacts to being in her idol’s workshop, the idea of her “using it as her base” is unfathomable and her geeky cries of “THIS IS HOLY GROUND” had me literally laughing out loud. I loved it, and I loved how much agency and voice is given to Pepper as Rescue. So often when a young new hero takes over an identity, the trailblazers before them get left out (looking at you Captain Marvel, though you did make up with it in a pretty good issue yourself).
There’s just so much to love in this comic and I’m glad that at the end of the day, even with all the Women in Science, it doesn’t diminish Riri’s single mom who works a 9-5. That relationship, you can already tell, is going to be monumental moving forward.
Great issue, great introduction to Riri. Am looking forward to seeing more of her.
DC’s Super Sons (2017- ) #3 Peter J. Tomasi, Jorge Jimenez, Alejandro Sanchez
To put things simply: This book might be one of the most amazing things that DC is putting out right now and if you have absolutely any interest in it at all, I would highly, HIGHLY recommend you pick it up because this is some a-grade fun. I adore having this book to look forward to and the antagonism as it comically plays out between Damian and Jon is easily some of the best stuff I’ve read with Damian’s character since the Robin: Son of Batman comic.
Which, if you know how much I flatly adored that comic, should obviously be taken as pretty high praise.
That being said, there’s some issues. Damian’s skin tone is not being protected enough by the editors and the whitewashing, especially compared to how good DC’s Rebirth comics have been about it in other series, is very distracting and supremely disappointing.
Jon has grown on me very quickly and while I will continue to talk about my longing for Chris Kent and my apprehensions about the continued theme of biological kids erasing the bonds of adopted kids, this is a good comic overall.
DC’s Superman (2016- ) #21 Peter J. Tomasi, Patrick Gleason, Mick Gray, John Kalisz
In this episode of “how is an evil cow taking down Batman” today, we get no such answers to no such questions, but we get a giant octopus monster fight with Superman, Superboy, and Robin and -- really -- isn’t that the content anyone really comes for in a Superman comic.
Once again, Jon’s heat vision is out of control and kills something, but rather than it being another moment of horror and reflection for him, as his father was trying desperately to save the creature’s life along with the citizenry of Hamilton, but the entire town seems to turn on Superman and praise Jon over him for “doing what is necessary.”
Now, this might be me reading too much into this (and read: it is) but this seems honestly like a huge commentary on the values of classic heroes like Superman being put in stark contrast to the blood thirsty and fear mongering of the public today. Too often we praise the most immediate and final of reactions rather than the harder and grayer solutions which Superman is supposed to be able to give us.
And considering how awkward the praise heaped on Jon feels in this issue, and the surprise revelation at the end, I’m pretty sure we’re not supposed to like that a life lost unnecessarily is being celebrated by everyone around.
Damian and Jon are still a ruckus and everything is still very intriguing. This is definitely my favorite Superman run in a long time.
DC’s Superwoman (2016- ) #9 K. Perkins, Stephen Segovia, Art Thibert, HI-FI
So here we are starting off with a new creative team and resetting my Rule of Three, which for anyone new means that I give new runs and new comics 3 issues to hook me before deciding how to handle the series moving forward. And considering that I wasn’t exactly thrilled with the last two or so issues of Jimenez’s run, I’m not completely objecting to a bit of a change up in the creative team.
This issue is dealing with the fallout of the Superman Reborn storyline and mostly about Lana dealing with once more being powerless, and how that makes her feel conflicted. I felt like this dealt with Lana’s emotions in a much more respectful and loving way that the last issue did, definitely, but mostly the issue read as filler before we get into the next arc which’ll be starting with #10.
So here we go into curiosity. I’m very interested in where this new team is deciding to take us.
DC’s Trinity (2016- ) #8 Cullen Bunn, Emanuela Lupacchino, Ray McCarthy, HI-FI
Another issue, another tie-in, another creative team change. Now, I’m going to be flat honest with you: I have absolutely no explanation for what happened in this issue. And I’m not doing that for comedic effect, it’s just honest.
This definitely felt like more filler before we get to somewhere beyond all the crossover events and can instead return to Trinity’s desperate attempt to find its own status quo. Something that positively worries me because its predecessors in spirit, Superman/Batman and Batman/Superman, never really cohesively found that groove for themselves.
For the time being this feels like after the first arc, this series has become something of a place for reactionary storytelling -- basically paid advertisements for bigger events going on in the rest of the DCU.
I desperately hope I’m wrong, I really liked the first arc and would like to see more friendship-centered adventures between DC’s Big Three, but I’m going to officially move this series to trade-wait if things don’t change by the next issue. We’ll see.
So this has been a rough week for comic fans, there’s no getting beyond that, and this Roundup was at least in part held back due to my own concerns about just how much the fallout of some truly bad decisions over at Marvel was going to play into my own feelings toward comics this week.
I feel, overall though, I had a good pull this week, and while some were a little lackluster and have gained my reservations, I overall really loved my Super Week. And of my Super Week I definitely have to give my favorite issue to Super Sons, which has just turned out to be a spectacular gem to follow and I’m very glad for it existing.
But how do you all feel about this week? Any comics I missed you think I should try out? Any disagreements with me on this week’s picks? I’d love to hear from you!

Dev Blog #153 - Retrospection
It's been an eventful week: On Tuesday everyone stopped what they're doing to talk about the future of Crest and on Thursday we were left without internet at the office due to heavy rain and storms. Nevertheless, a lot of progress has been made this week.
Community
Like mentioned above, on Tuesday we had a day long discussion about the current problems of Crest and how we'd like to fix them in the future. What came out of it can be read in yesterday's post: The Future of Crest.
Two important dates to take away from the lengthy post:
The Community Module will launch at the end of November
The "final" release for Crest has been pushed back to Q1 2018 for now
This October actually marked the start of the 5th year of Crest's development. You can find out about everything that happened on this long road and the hardships we went through in our post The Development History of Crest.
Art
Martin
I've been working on the new trailer, most of the time has been spent on making a storyboard. It makes sense to create images outside of your head if you collaborate with others on a project, but the added bonus is that the ideas you have in your head sometimes don't look that good when you see them with your eyes. So it's always a back and forth between what you think and what can be made. Storyboards are great!
Emma
I've been working on figuring out technical solutions for our new website and working on some new UI. From our long discussion about how to improve the game, an overview of cities was born. At the moment, it's kinda hard to get a clear view of how each city is doing if you don't go through every city pop-up and go over every tab.
This new UI will provide the player with a summary of every city, easily readable with not too much information. At the moment, we need to figure out how to display this information without making it looking too "information-heavy", as it shouldn't scare the player away. Below are two of the mock-ups!
Code
Johannes
I've not worked much on the game this week, I've mostly done company stuff. I have however made a tool to find mismatched calls to Profiler.BeginSample() and Profiler.EndSample(), which helped us find a couple of mistakes in the code.
I'm now back at focusing on improving the island generation, to make the islands more varied and interesting.
Johannes W
This week I fixed some minor bugs with the camera movement. There was some old code that kind of worked against the new camera movement which caused the camera to sometimes behave weirdly.
I've also been working with the story builder for the new end screen. For example, a new feature for the purpose of development is the ability write sentences that refers to methods in the script that is responsible for the story generation. So the string "Your era came to an end when {FollowerName} died of old age." results in a sentence that has replaced "{FollowerName}" with the follower's name.
For randomization, "{Random(proud, noble, grand, glorious)}" results in a randomized word from the arguments "proud", "noble" etc. The purpose for this is to enable us to create dynamic and interesting stories for our players! If you are a programmer reading this, the library Reflection in C# was used to accomplish this.
Tomas
I have finished the new Follower word discovery speech/thinking bubble I talked about last week.
I am almost done with making it so that followers with high faith never do actions that the player tells them to not do. I was almost done but after some code reviews I have chosen to re-do the feature a bit.
I also looked into a major change to how Followers choose targets when they build their orders. When I am done, this should make Cannibals, Killing Warriors and Hunters behave as expected. Previously there was a possibility that they performed the actions on unwanted targets. Like for example if the player had written the commandment "... eat old followers." and there were no old followers, they would still eat people... just not their favored target.
Jens
This week I implemented the playback for all the new sound effects. This means that we can start testing them during play, seeing if they work or what potential adjustments need to be made. For example, the notifications will now play different sounds depending on the severity of the message. Monuments and expertise buildings now play rewarding sounds when built or upgraded. All in all, more than 20 sound effects have been added with this batch.
Otherwise I've been working through some issues we have had with the disposition system (relationships between cities). Currently the trading is getting a makeover as the cities trade too often, with too many resources, essentially making them bounce resources between each other. We want to balance the pacing of the game from the point of the second city being founded. Right now all the different aspects of the disposition system, trading, diplomacy, alliances, and war kicks in with the second city, which can be overwhelming in its current state.
Design
Emelie
This week we had a workshop where we went through things that we want to fix with the game, it was very beneficial and added to my work as a designer. When we start implementing these things I hope that you will notice the difference and get a nicer time playing our game. Other than that I tested a part of the storybuilder, now that it's testable in a scene that Johannes W has made, I noticed some things that needed changing but it's coming along nicely.
Production
Marcus
Work on the Community Module is getting completed at a steady pace and most of the art assets are done, which means that we can have one of our artists, Emma, begin working on the updates and features we have scheduled for our next big update. These updates are based on community feedback and internal playtesting, which have identified the biggest issues with Crest, and I have begun scoping and planning these iterations.
Have a nice week!

Smile, Microsoft Flight Simulator, Paul Allen’s Living Computers Museum + Labs & BRZRKR
Has Professor finally found a way to keep DJ in the time limit? Some say yes.
Can a smile really make you think better of someone? What if it would make you think worse of them? This study looked at the perceived trustworthiness of people with various disorders, but the Nerds think it's not particularly rigorous.
Microsoft Flight Simulator will come with a physical edition including a lovely hardcover flight manual, and ten discs. TEN discs. It's going to be a pretty significant drive eater but if you don't have a good internet connection or want a pretty book this is the way to go.
It's time to say goodbye to Paul Allen's Living Computer Museum + Labs. Paul's museum is the only place a regular civilian can access the classic Big Iron mainframes of the 60s and 70s, but they've recently announced their temporary closure which is sounding more and more permanent as more news comes out. Now if you'll excuse us, Professor needs to have a bit of a cry.
Keanu Reeves is writing a comic book called Brzkr which sounds like the most Mary Sue self insert fanfiction a man could write. We'll have to wait for the full story to come out, but the main character sounds annoying. Maybe it'll have good art though.
This week, Professor sat around waiting in Forager, DJ jumped around in Nohra and Dev-i-Boy formed an army in VRChat.

For those unfamiliar with what a Minecraft world seed is, it is essentially a string of numbers and coding that's randomly generated and put together to make up a new Minecraft world. It may not seem like much to onlookers, but it's a bigwin for the Minecraft community and an important piece of history coming to light for one of the longest-tenured multiplayer ventures in modern gaming.

A United Arab Emirates spacecraft began its journey to Mars with a blast off in Japan in what is the Arab world’s first interplanetary mission. The launch of the spacecraft named Amal, or Hope, marks the start of the seven-month journey to the red planet. The probe will study the upper atmosphere and monitor climate change while circling Mars for at least two years. The craft is expected to reach Mars in February 2021, the year the UAE celebrates 50 years since its formation. The Emirates Mars Mission has cost $200m (£155.8m), according to minister for advanced sciences Sarah Amiri. It aims to provide a complete picture of the Martian atmosphere for the first time, studying daily and seasonal changes. The UAE first announced plans for the mission in 2014 and launched a National Space Programme in 2017 to develop local expertise. Its population of 9.4 million, most of whom are foreign workers, lacks the scientific and industrial base of the big spacefaring nations. It has an ambitious plan for a Mars settlement by 2117. Hazza al-Mansouri became the first Emirati in space last September when he flew to the International Space Station.

20 July 1866 – Bernhard Riemann - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernhard_Riemann
Georg Friedrich Bernhard Riemann, German mathematician who made contributions to analysis, number theory, and differential geometry. In the field of real analysis, he is mostly known for the first rigorous formulation of the integral, the Riemann integral, and his work on Fourier series. His contributions to complex analysis include most notably the introduction of Riemann surfaces, breaking new ground in a natural, geometric treatment of complex analysis. His famous 1859 paper on the prime-counting function, containing the original statement of the Riemann hypothesis, is regarded as one of the most influential papers inanalytic number theory. Through his pioneering contributions to differential geometry, Riemann laid the foundations of the mathematics of general relativity. He is considered by many to be one of the greatest mathematicians of all time. He died from tuberculosis at the age of 39 in Selasca,Kingdom of Italy.
20 July 1973 – Bruce Lee - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruce_Lee

Lee is considered by commentators, critics, media, and other martial artists to be the most influential martial artist of all time and a pop culture icon of the 20th century, who bridged the gap between East and West. He is credited with helping to change the way Asians were presented in American films. His Hong Kong and Hollywood-produced films elevated the traditional martial arts film to a new level of popularity and acclaim, sparking a surge of interest in Chinese nation and Chinese martial arts in the West in the 1970s. He died at the age of 32 in Kowloon Tong. There was no visible external injury; however, according to autopsy reports, Lee's brain had swollen considerably. The autopsy found Equagesic in his system. Doohan's characterization of the Scottish Chief Engineer of the Starship Enterprise was one of the most recognizable elements in the Star Trek franchise, and inspired many fans to pursue careers in engineering and other technical fields. He also made contributions behind the scenes, such as the initial development of the Klingon and Vulcan languages. Prior to his acting career, Doohan served in the 14th Field Artillery Regiment of the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division. He also served as a pilot. He saw combat in Europe during World War II, including the D-Day invasion of Normandy, in which he was wounded, apparently by friendly fire. After the war, he had extensive experience performing in radio and television, which led to his role as Scotty. He died from pneumonia at the age of 85 in Redmond, Washington. A portion of his ashes, ¼ ounce (7 grams), was scheduled the following fall for a memorial flight to space with 308 others, including Project Mercury astronaut Gordon Cooper. Launch on the SpaceLoft XL rocket was delayed to April 28, 2007, when the rocket briefly entered outer space in a four-minute suborbital flight before parachuting to earth, as planned, with the ashes still inside. The ashes were subsequently launched on a Falcon 1 rocket, on August 3, 2008, into what was intended to be a low Earth orbit; however, the rocket failed two minutes after launch. On May 22, 2012, a small urn containing some of Doohan's remains in ash form was flown into space aboard the Falcon 9 rocket as part of COTS Demo Flight 2.

20 July 1932 – Nam June Paik - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nam_June_Paik
Korean American artist. He worked with a variety of media and is considered to be the founder of video art. He is credited with the first use (1974) of the term "electronic super highway" to describe the future of telecommunications. In 1974 Nam June Paik used the term "super highway" in application to telecommunications, which gave rise to the opinion that he may have been the author of the phrase "Information Superhighway". In fact, in his 1974 proposal "Media Planning for the Postindustrial Society – The 21st Century is now only 26 years away" to the Rockefeller Foundation he used a slightly different phrase, "electronic super highway": "The building of new electronic super highways will become an even huger enterprise. Assuming we connect New York with Los Angeles by means of an electronic telecommunication network that operates in strong transmission ranges, as well as with continental satellites, wave guides, bundled coaxial cable, and later also via laser beam fiber optics: the expenditure would be about the same as for a Moon landing, except that the benefits in term of by-products would be greater. He was born in Keijo (present-day Seoul).
20 July 1947 – Gerd Binnig - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gerd_Binnig
German physicist. He is most famous for having won the Nobel Prize in Physics jointly with Heinrich Rohrer in 1986 for the invention of the scanning tunneling microscope. In 1978, Binnig accepted an offer from IBM to join their Zürich research group, where he worked with Heinrich Rohrer, Christoph Gerber and Edmund Weibel. There they developed the scanning tunneling microscope (STM), an instrument for imaging surfaces at the atomic level. The Nobel committee described the effect that the invention of the STM had on science, saying that "entirely new fields are opening up for the study of the structure of matter." The physical principles on which the STM was based were already known before the IBM team developed the STM, but Binnig and his colleagues were the first to solve the significant experimental challenges involved in putting it into effect. In 1985, Binnig invented the atomic force microscope (AFM) and Binnig, Christoph Gerber and Calvin Quate went on to develop a working version of this new microscope for insulating surfaces. In 1994 Professor Gerd Binnig founded Definiens which turned in the year 2000 into a commercial enterprise. The company developed Cognition Network Technology to analyze images just like the human eye and brain are capable of doing. He was born in Frankfurt am Main.

20 July 1976 – The American Viking 1 lander successfully lands on Mars. - https://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/viking-1-lands-on-mars
On the seventh anniversary of the Apollo 11 lunar landing, the Viking 1 lander, an unmanned U.S. planetary probe, becomes the first spacecraft to successfully land on the surface of Mars. On July 20, 1976, the Viking 1 lander separated from the orbiter, touched down on the Chryse Planitia region of Mars, and sent back the first close-up photographs of the rust-colored Martian surface. It was the first attempt by the United States at landing on Mars. Viking 1 carried a biology experiment whose purpose was to look for evidence of life. The Viking spacecraft biological experiments weighed 15.5 kg (34 lbs) and consisted of three subsystems: the pyrolytic release experiment (PR), the labeled release experiment (LR), and the gas exchange experiment (GEX). Most scientists now believe that the data were due to inorganic chemical reactions of the soil; however, this view may be changing after the recent discovery of near-surface ice near the Viking landing zone. Some scientists still believe the results were due to living reactions. No organic chemicals were found in the soil.

They reveal their plan to frame Kanan, but Tariq refuses to help them put his new friend in danger. Tasha begins to worry where her son's allegiance lies, and reminds Tariq that she is going to jail if he doesn’t help her. Tariq hasn't earned redemption for the death of his sister yet, even if he did kill Ray Ray. His reluctance to help his family after hurting his family is immature and only adds to the character's increasing unlikeability. On the other side of town, Tommy takes Lakeisha to dinner to meet Teresi and Connie. The dinner goes well, until the two begin to brag about being in deep together. Connie warns her that dating a criminal isn’t going to be easy, but reassures her that love will help her through. Lakeisha thinks she's down for Tommy, until a subpoena shows up at her door. Their entire relationship is questioned, and Lakeisha takes the issue to Tasha as well. At this point, neither Tommy nor Lakeisha appear to truly care about Lakeisha beyond needing her to conform to the bigger plan in motion. On the legal side of things, Mak and Saxe continue to try to put the squeeze on Ghost and Angela. Tameika instructs the lawyers to put pressure on Proctor, which they proceed to do. They inform Proctor that they know about the murder of Marshal Williams, the disgruntled guard that Ghost killed while in prison. They also claim they have a witness (Teresi). Tommy's father tipped the lawyers off to satisfy his duties as a snitch for freedom. Stunned, Proctor goes to Ghost to find information. He tries to get Ghost to open up to him, but St. Patrick smartly declines feeding him any info. The dynamic here is interesting because Proctor already has enough information to get St. Patrick locked up. His prying feels like more of a test, a way to gauge how much trust Ghost has placed in him. Apparently, it isn't much. On the other side of that power struggle, Angela questions Saxe about his investigation of Tommy Egan, to which he reluctantly answers. She continues to promise him an office in DC, but by episode’s end, that doesn’t seem like Mak’s plan at all. Proctor goes to meet up with his criminal cousin, and reveals that he still has the laptop from the Homeland Security officer Tommy killed. On the computer is a recording that can send Ghost and Tommy away for life, and Proctor can’t decide whether to give up his former clients to get the feds off his tail, or if he should remain loyal. https://twitter.com/Power_STARZ/status/1033872903647846401 When Tasha reveals her plan to frame Kanan to Ghost, he wants nothing to do with it. In Ghost’s mind, Dre needs to pay for the death of Raina and gets the blame for all the drama that his family has experienced. How he comes to that rationalization doesn't quite make sense. Unbeknownst to him, Dre tried to separate Kanan and Tariq way back in the last season. Tasha thinks that Ghost is finding a way to cope with his own guilt, and she's not wrong. When he refuses to commit to the plan, Tasha takes matters into her own hands. Ghost admits to his son that he is trying to frame Dre, which allows Tariq to look at his father in a (semi) good light -- the first time all season that we see Tariq show a semblance of understanding and compassion towards his father. Tariq has felt betrayed by his parents, ever since he found out he'd been lied to about their family's history. Once Riq sees that his father is willing to go to jail to save his life, Tariq starts to soften. https://twitter.com/Power_STARZ/status/1033890025627238400 After that monumental moment, Tasha shows up and talks to Tariq in private, but the details of their discussion are not shown on screen. Ghost heads back over to Tommy’s place and comes up with the plan to place Diego’s head in Dre’s club, which they believe will give the Jimenez reason to lash out at Dre. Neither men know that Alicia Jimenez allowed the death to occur. She has been making a play against her brother all season, and we've yet to see Alicia's full scheme. Ghost plans on dropping the murder weapon that killed Ray Ray on Dre’s premises as well, but it doesn’t work out that way. When he returns to his home to retrieve the gun, Tasha reveals her plan to have Kanan framed. Back in the hood, Kanan puts Tariq to the test. He sends him out onto the street to sell product, but when the boy returns, Kanan determines that one of the customers gave him fake money. Angered, Tariq locates the guys that did him dirty, and instructs K to pull up. Tariq then holds the customers at gunpoint, and gets them to drop all their cash. After hopping back into Kanan’s car, the two drive off into the night, but Tariq has some questions for K. At this point, we see the contemplative side of the teen. He's more of his father's son that he realizes. He can’t understand why Kanan would kill his own son, someone that he loved. Kanan assures Tariq he would never kill him, and says that his son was disloyal and wasn’t built like the two of them. Kanan's love for Tariq is ultimately his downfall. Their moment is fleeting because soon after, Kanan is pulled over. When police ask K to pop the truck, they find the gun that Ray Ray used to kill Raina. The officers instruct Kanan and Tariq to exit the vehicle, and that's when things get crazy. https://twitter.com/Power_STARZ/status/1033895419913199618 The police ask Tariq if he’s being held against his will by Kanan, to which he reluctantly agrees. Apparently, Tasha called the police and claimed K kidnapped her son. We already know, as he clearly stated earlier, that Kanan is not going back to prison again-- leaving him with, basically, one option during this police encounter. It's important to note that both times Tariq's parents have initially opened up to him, he has given them immediate loyalty in return. That's all he wants, the truth. His placement of the murder weapon in Kanan's trunk is not as shocking once you realize he's just a kid looking for his parent's mutual respect. As Tariq sits in the back of a cop car, Kanan shoots and kills the cop that was trying to arrest him. Three other police begin to shoot back, and Kanan methodically kills them all, but not without taking a couple shots himself. The bloody shootout is the most action we've seen all season, and it makes Kanan look like an absolute beast. He easily takes out the entire police squad before setting his sights on Tariq. K has a moment to kill Tariq, who is now unguarded in the back of the police car: he doesn't, though, his face a mix of hurt and understanding. Even in Kanan's last moments, he keeps his initial promise not to kill Tariq. He attempts to make an escape in a police cruiser, but ultimately he succumbs to his gunshot wounds, the car swerving off the road. Unlike the fire that "killed" him last time, it appears he's dead for real this time (although conspiracy theories on the internet may say otherwise). https://twitter.com/Power_STARZ/status/1033880382247030784 After Kanan dies, Tariq, Lakiesha, and Tasha tell the police their fabricated story that places the blame of Ray Ray’s death on K. Ghost is left in shock, but he is relieved none the less. The fact that Tasha took the control from her husband to enact this move will undoubtedly come back to haunt her. Proctor heads over to the offices of Mak and Saxe and doesn’t give up information on Ghost or Tommy, but admits that Angela Valdez is helping them out. That sparks the lawyers’ interests, and opens up an entirely new angle to work with. Over at Dre’s club, his employees find the head of Diego Jimenez in the freezer. Police swarm the area, and it looks like Dre is heading to jail. Tommy and Ghost meet up at the morgue after all is said and done, but Egan has lost trust in his friend. Kanan effectively injected enough poison into their relationship to create a rift between the men. He played on Tommy's weaknesses while attempting to take his business out from underneath him. As they look at Kanan’s dead body, Egan tells Ghost that K saw him coming, and that he doesn’t believe that Tasha set this up on her own. Although Kanan is now dead, and Ray Ray’s murder has been taken off of the St. Patrick plate, things are not all good. There is still Teresi’s snitching to deal with, and there are two episodes left in the season. https://twitter.com/Power_STARZ/status/1033897406729842688 After the season finale aired, show creator Courtney Kemp and 50 Cent sat down with Deadline to talk about the weight of the episode. Revealing that they plan to end Power after seven seasons, the most important aspect of their conversation is about Tariq. "Kanan’s death was always going to be what we like to jokingly call the ghetto Bar-Mitzvah," stated Kemp. "That is today Tariq is a man, you know? We always talk about that, which is that how are we showing this trajectory of Tariq turning into his father? His father sacrificed Kanan. Tariq just did too." She continued on to hint that we may see Tariq hop in the driver's seat by the show's end. "Ghost’s great failure involves the fact that you cannot keep your kid from turning into you," she explained. "Genetics are genetics, nature is nature, nurture is nurture, and this kid has Ghost for a dad, Tasha for a mom, Tommy as his godfather, and now was partially raised by a friend of the family, which is the name of this episode, a friend of the family who is Kanan. He’s going to be a criminal fucking mastermind and there’s not a God damn thing Ghost can do about it." Get the strap. Read the full article

IHOP
With one of the most talked about marketing stunts of 2018, IHOP showed they were more than just a pancake palace.
It all started on June 4th, 2018, when IHOP tweeted that they’d be flipping the ‘P’ around and changing their name to IHOb. They announced that everyone would have to wait to find out what the ‘b’ stood for—something that immediately got everyone guessing.
For 60 pancakin’ years, we’ve been IHOP. Now, we’re flippin’ our name to IHOb. Find out what it could b on 6.11.18. #IHOb pic.twitter.com/evSxKV3QmT
— IHOP (@IHOP) June 4, 2018
After days of speculation, IHOP(b?) announced that the ‘b’ stood for burgers. Thanks to this campaign, IHOP not only got people associating burgers with their name—seeing word of mouth rise from 19 to 30 percent—but saw their social media popularity skyrocket.
How can your brand follow IHOP’s path to success?
Do your research. You can’t just launch a potentially risky campaign out of nowhere. Before making their Twitter announcement, IHOP discovered that social media conversations about pancakes had declined, while the popularity of burgers was steadily increasing. Find out what your customers are talking about online and highlight ways your business can fulfill their needs.
Build suspense. IHOP’s first Twitter announcement asked their audience to stay tuned to find out what the mysterious ‘b’ stood for. This lent an air of speculation to the campaign and it became an engaging guessing game for the audience. Your brand can easily do this with a marketing campaign.
SodaStream
SodaStream’s CEO Daniel Birnbaum says “the company is always looking for disruptive ways to create moments of joy.” They definitely succeeded with their 2018 April Fool’s Day campaign.
This marketing stunt had Game of Thrones star Thor “The Mountain” Bjornsson and Shahs of Sunset star Reza Farahan introduce SodaStream’s (fake) new product, the SodaSoak—a sparkling water maker for the bathtub.
“The thing about SodaStream’s campaigns is that they address important themes in a lighthearted and funny way that keeps a finger on the pulse of pop culture,” Bjornsson explains. The approach paid off, with AdWeek reporting “this video reached many top April Fool’s lists and gained brand exposure worth many millions.”
What can your brand do to get on SodaStream’s level?
Delight and surprise your audience. By making their commercial in classic infomercial style, there might have been a moment where SodaStream’s audience questioned whether what they were seeing was real. It’s always fun to give your audience something they’re not expecting, so take any opportunity to surprise them with strategic whimsy.
Recognize key dates. SodaStream’s campaign was for April Fool’s Day, but there are key dates and celebrations happening almost every day of the year. When relevant, align your campaign to one of these dates and have fun with it.
Highlight your product. Even though the SodaSoak isn’t real, the parody still presented the key capabilities of SodaStream’s actual product. Even when watching a spoof, the audience was reminded that the SodaStream is able to carbonate plain tap water. In all the excitement of creating a fun campaign, don’t lose sight of what makes your product or service unique.
KFC
If any brand can prove that weird works, it’s KFC. Their marketing stunts have been wonderfully outlandish over the last few years, and it’s a formula that works for the brand.
One of their more out-there campaigns featured a four-hour Facebook Live stream of adoptable kittens climbing on a “fabric husk of a towering model of the brand’s mascot and founder Colonel Sanders.”
While you might have scoffed if an employee pitched an idea like this in a meeting, more than one-million viewers tuned in to KFC’s kitties.
(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = 'https://ift.tt/2v7IXSn'; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk'));
Colonel Sanders Cat Climber
If enough of you share, we might add more kittens.

How can you create a goldmine campaign like KFC?
Brand everything. Whether it’s an ad apologizing for a chicken shortage or a cat tower livestream, KFC knows that putting their brand first and foremost works. Awareness and recall are key to your business’ growth.Make sure you use any opportunity to bring your unique brand into all of your content and marketing assets.
Embrace the weird. While actually running a bizarre campaign like KFC’s might not be possible for all brands, every business can embrace a quirkier approach to campaigns. Add a dash of whimsy to your campaigns where relevant. If you can’t share silly content (say you’re a political organization or serious government branch), you can have fun in your brainstorms, strategy sessions, or at other states of campaign development. For example, ask everyone in your brainstorm to come up with the weirdest, most outlandish idea they can—there are no bad ideas. Sometimes the best “real” ideas can come out of a free-for-all. And the worst case scenario is that your team has a laugh.
Patagonia
While brands are usually advised to avoid politics, the response to Patagonia’s politically-inspired marketing stunt was so positive it crashed their site.
After the President of the United States signed two proclamations to greatly reduce protected land in the Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments in Utah, Patagonia responded with images and messages reading ‘The President Stole Your Land’ on their website and social feed.
This is the largest elimination of protected land in American history. Take Action: https://t.co/biZPxo7PHh#BearsEars pic.twitter.com/OqW9FHPk3Q
— Patagonia (@patagonia) December 4, 2017
What can your brand do to reach Patagonia’s level of success?
Know your audience. Patagonia knows that their target customer has environmentally-friendly and eco-conscious values. The company donates a percentage of its revenue to environmental causes, uses recycled, “Fair Trade” certified in its clothing, and uses solar energy at its company headquarters. Figure out who your own brand’s target audience is, and align your actions to their values.
Provide a clear call-to-action. While it would have been easy for Patagonia to post their ad and call it a day, they provide a button encouraging their audience to ‘Take Action Now.’ This leads to a page where visitors can sign a petition and send a pre-written tweet defending public lands. When you are launching a social media campaign of any risk level, include a CTA so your audience knows exactly what you want from them. Check out this blog post from AdEspresso for 31 clever CTA ideas.
Burger King
When it comes to brands tackling important issues, Burger King might not be the first company you think of. However, the fast-food restaurant proved they’re more than capable of getting people’s attention with their Whopper Neutrality stunt.
The campaign had customers ordering Whopper burgers, but receiving them at different times based on how much they were willing to pay. As AdWeek explains, this “was a scathing parallel for how the end of net neutrality could create fast and slow lanes for internet access.” It became their most shared ad of all time with more than 4.5 million Youtube views alone.
What lessons from Burger King’s campaign can your brand put into action?
Combine education and humor. Net neutrality is a complicated issue, but Burger King was able to explain the effects in terms anyone can understand. By making the message accessible to all—as well as humorous—they are providing crucial education for their audience. Consider how your brand can educate your target customers in a relevant way, and centre a campaign around these lessons.
Appeal to your customers’ emotions. Any viewer of Burger King’s ad is sent on an emotional roller coaster. From feeling empathy towards the customers in the video and frustration on their behalf, to experiencing laughter, to fear when the reality of net neutrality being repealed sets in, the content evokes plenty of emotion. Emotions play a crucial role in our ability to recall information, so they’re a powerful part of many successful ad campaigns. Think about how you can stir up emotion in your audience, whether that’s through humor, love, happiness, or plain old FOMO. Our blog post, Social Media and Psychology: 4 Things Marketers Need to Know, shares more ideas for including emotion in your campaigns.
Any marketing stunt has the power to strengthen—or sink—your brand. As long as you follow the lead of the successful brands above and know what you’re doing, your risk can definitely pay off.

5 Android apps you shouldn’t miss this week! – Android Apps Weekly Welcome to the 252nd edition of Android Apps Weekly! Here are the big headlines from the last week: The team sat down and talked about a bunch of apps they use this week. We tried to talk about apps that don’t get the most press. Some of them include Tiny Scanner, Transit, Achievement, Maps Measure, Out of Milk, Tea Cup, and several others. It was a good time seeing what apps we at Android Authority use on a daily basis. Hit the link to see the full list of apps and honorable mentions! Timehop had a little bit of a bad week. The social history app had 21 million accounts compromised during a recent data breach. The compromised data included names, email addresses, and phone numbers. They fixed the breach and everything is okay now. However, the app is recommending that people change their passwords as soon as possible. It’s a pretty serious data breach. We also recommend you check your Timehop account to make sure everything is okay. It’s Always Sunny In Philadelpha is getting its own mobile game soon. It won’t be much different from other TV show mobile games. It will likely include freemium mechanics, many funny and enjoyable moments from the show, a bunch of cameos from favorite side characters, and more. The game should launch sometime in 2018. We don’t quite know when exactly, though. You can register for the game on the official website if you want to. Google Duo may get a rewards program soon. A recent APK teardown revealed the code this last week. Basically, Google wants to bribe people into getting other people to use Duo. It’s a referra Unfortunately, we think it’ll take more than that to get people onto Google’s messaging apps these days. The referral rewards code may or may not be permanent. We would take this with a grain of salt until Google announces something. Fortnite may have a release date now! The long awaited battle royale shooter is months behind its main rival, PUGB. A tweet from Tencent Games shows a date of July 24th and a message that Fortnite is coming. The game should either launch on that date or they announce the for real launch date. Either way, we’re excited. We have no doubt that Fortnite is a hit in the making. It and PUBG Mobile should make our best games of 2018 list. We’ll know more on July 24th. Fracter Price: $3.99 DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY Facter is a new puzzle game with psychological thriller elements. Honestly, it looks a little bit like Monument Valley if it were a scary game. The game features a variety of puzzles, simple graphics, a black-and-white style similar to Limbo, and more. We didn't have any issues when we played the game. However, there are some that have panned the game's control scheme. It runs for $3.99 with no in-app purchases or ads. We do recommend trying it inside of the refund time in case you don't like the controls. DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY Moment Price: $1.99 DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY Moment is a new camera app kind of. It's really a port of a popular iOS camera app. The app includes the essentials such as full manual mode, RAW support, a live histogram, various leveling modes, EXIF metadata support, and more. It is missing a few things, though. You can't take video with this app just yet and it's missing a few features from iOS. There are also a few bugs. It's a new release, so we don't judge it too harshly. It runs for $1.99 with no in-app purchases or ads right now. We do hope the developer improves this one over time. DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY The Walking Dead: Our World Price: Freemium DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY The Walking Dead: Our World officially launched this week. It's the latest game to take advantage of the AR craze. You walk around the real world. The goal is to kill zombies, explore the world, collect stuff, and engage in weekly challenges with other players. It plays a lot like Pokemon Go and Jurassic World Alive. That means you have to actually get off the couch and go do this stuff. There are a few bugs and connection issues. However, that's rather expected with a new game with this much dependence on an Internet connection. It's also a freemium game just like the others. DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY Carrot Weather Price: Free / $0.99 per month / $3.99 per year DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY Carrot Weather is a new weather app, obviously. This one includes a range of features such as daily weather, current temperatures, hourly forecasts, and some other stuff. The premium version gets a widget and a time travel feature. It lets you view weather up to 70 years in the past. It also posts witticisms for comedic effect. The premium club is a subscription. We highly recommend the $3.99 per year if you go pro. It saves you like 66% off of the price of the monthly subscription. We also prefer yearly subscriptions in weather apps to monthly ones. DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY Nyjah Huston: #SkateLife Price: Freemium DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY Nyjah Huston: #SkateLife has the worst name of any app or game ever made. Thankfully, it's a decent skateboarding game on a platform where that isn't normal. The game features decent graphics, plenty of tricks, community competitions, and more. There is also a card collecting mechanic for getting and upgrading tricks. This is easily among the best ten skateboarding games on mobile, if not the top five. It's a freemium game, though, so prepare yourself for that. DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY Thank you for reading! Check these out! 10 best skateboarding games for Android! Insert obligatory out-of-touch Tony Hawk game reference here. Now that we have that uncomfortably awkward reference out of the way, let's talk about skateboarding games for Android. There are a few really good ones. However, … 15 best camera apps for Android Cameras on smartphones are a much bigger deal than they used to be. Companies are chomping at the bit to make their cameras more reliable, work better in low light, and add features that people want. … If we missed any big Android apps or games news, updates, or launches, tell us about them in the comments! There is no such thing as a method by which a transaction will be reversed or faked. A great way to ensure no such split occurs could be to divert some assets to performing 51% assaults on the minority chain and thus inflicting no matter trade that tries to trade them to lose money. Two of the primary issues a very good collector looks at are the monumental worth and monetary price of a set. However, the probability that Bitcoin becomes a serious technique of payment seems to be like zero to me, as the system is essentially flawed. But Bitcoin dynamics are mainly not fitted to any empirical analysis of any vital accuracy. Since Crypto 2.0s are mainly about monetary transactions, allowing the users to easily faucet into a wide range of them is a profit.
