She stubborn on this fact , unwilling to cave so easily . If he was going to be cold with her , she would return it . Though , her intention today was not to fight with him , it was to make amends . They were going to talk , whether [ [ e i t h e r ] ] of them liked the idea or not . It was not going to be easy , but they needed to do it .

" I'm here to [ [ t a l k ] ] to you , Terra . We have a lot of things to discuss . I didn't come here to hurt you . That's never been my intention . "

"It's a bad habit,"  the young soldier wearily chuckles at the words spoken, half in show of faith and half in belief that perhaps he could change.  "I know, I shouldn't hold things in, but at the end of the day, I need to get through what I'm doing in order to have a moment to breathe and feel..."  he reaches up with his claws and gently takes off the new hat he had gotten from his aunt and his little brother. a cowboy hat with a single plume of a red chocobo's feathers. it looked barren, compared to the rest of him.  "Do you... do you think it's wrong of me? To not want to feel angry with the world that hurt me, and those that I love?"

Aqua was silent for a little too long. The grip she had on her legs tightening. When she got into this state it was difficult to pull her out of it. She had her fair share of scars. Horrors that she would not inflict on even her worst enemies. For her, the darkness was suffocating. And there was still so much of it left on her heart.

She eyed him from where she was sitting, and that's when he spoke up.

Don't look at me like that.

Like what?

Don't shut me out. please.

But bringing him in was a mountain of a task for the keyblade master. How was she supposed to put any more on his shoulders? How could she share in this burden? It would only add to the guilt he already felt. And by extension she would feel as if she were dragging him down. How would that be productive for either of them?

She thought she was stronger than this.

She finally found the strength in her to speak, her voice coming out like a whisper.

"Terra... I just want to be alone right now. I can... handle this."

Terra’s birthday . It came once a year and yet , every year , it seemed like Riku was anything [ [ b u t ] ] prepared . Of course , it helped even LESS that Terra never told him what he wanted for his birthday . He seemed happy with everything that Riku got him -- 

Cute . 

-- But not helpful in the slightest. 

He did in fact say that he would be happy if Riku got him a rock . While he wanted to test that theory , he thought that might be too on the nose . No , you know what ? He [ [ w o u l d ] ] test that theory . 

He would get him a real present too . 

The morning of Terra’s birthday , Riku trudged up and down and all around Terra’s home until he found the [ [ p e r f e c t ] ] rock . Not just any rock , it was white , round . . . shiny . Bright . . . much like Terra’s own personality . And whiel Terra was eating breakfast , Riku walked up to him and uncurled his fingerless-gloved hand to reveal said rock .  “--Happy birthday.”

● – || It had been , what ? Ten years since Noctis' eyes had seen the world he knew . Everything looked so DIFFERENT now . It was dark , cold . . . A shadow of the glimmering world that once was . He felt guilt for leaving it all behind for so long . He wasn't the reason that the world fell to such a state , but it certainly felt like it was .

As he made his way slowly into the camp , and he looked at everyone , he offered them all a gentle smile and a head nod . But it was when he saw one person in particular that Noctis' heart melted . Ten years locked away , and he'd still know that charming look anywhere .

" . . . Terra . . . "

Nocits sighed in happiness as he made his way over to Terra . He looked up at him then set his hand on his shoulder . He was real . . . [ [ T h e y ] ] were really here together .

" I'm . . . so glad to see you . "

riku has been in love with terra in some way, shape, or form, for essentially the entirety of his life.

there was the hero worship crush, the puppy crush, whatever you wanted to call it -- that was there from the beginning. he met terra and found out terra could leave the island and all he wanted was to be him. he wanted the strength he had -- so he could take care of himself, take care of sora.

and then when everything happened, when he felt his sense of self torn to pieces over and over only to be stuck back together hastily with craft glue--

well. it was a bittersweet day when terra finally came back. the battle had been hard, after all, and they’d needed him in that final fight to turn the tides.

and then sora was gone. and sure, riku had terra back, but it wasn’t the same. they’d spent more time together, though, and that hero worship had very, very quickly turned into something more. something riku didn’t even want to let himself feel, because he was worried he would push terra away.

even now with terra in front of him saying things he... well. never thought he’d hear terra say. he still can’t quite grasp that the feeling is mutual.

"this sort of changes things,” he finally says, a tiny smile that curls the corners of his lips. “i was waiting to sort of say the same thing to you.”

the words gave something of a startled fright to the kingsglaive. the smile that he normally wears wanes slightly, shifting from a melancholic eeriness to a concerned uncertainty. it wasn't often that someone noticed how exhausted he was. but nonetheless, his gaze shifts down to the ground, unsure of how to respond at first. "... I don't believe I'll get rest until I die. Part of the job of being a bodyguard." or maybe that was the regret talking.

"Well, well, if it isn't that old coot's meat puppet." Came a sardonic voice from above. His head is propped up against his palm as he gazes down at the object of his other half's affection. How often had he sat alone in the Keyblade Graveyard, feeling the adoration Ventus felt toward Terra?

He was long tired of it... but he was also curious, as well. Curiosity was one of the very few neutral emotions Vanitas was capable of feeling.

"Broke your shackles, huh? Can't say I saw that coming."

✚  Bay-Lin sat quietly beside Terra on the shore , watching the waves crash against the loose soil . It had been a long time since they had sat like this . It felt like it had been centuries . The war tore them into two different places : While Terra went off to be a soldier , Bay-Lin stayed in the trenches . Terra saved people on the battlefield and Baymax saved people behind it . They both helped people . . . but at the cost of possibly losing one another . 

After some time of watching the water , eventually , the smaller of the two looked over at his friend . He tugged his knees to his chest as he looked at him with a sad smile . 

“ We’ve . ..  not done this for a while .  Just sat here , like this . ” 

He smiled a little bit at that before he looked down at his hands that clasped around his knees . 

“ When we were young , we were the ones -- the Kings and Queens . . . we ruled the world . We had no regrets . ”

He wished that they could do it all over again . 

“ At this point , we have traveled many different worlds . . . yet , we always find each other on this one . If I ever need help , you’re right there , and the same goes for you . I know you feel like you have to fight the world alone , but you don’t . No matter what happens , Terra , I want you to know . . . ” 

Baymax’s soft , brown eyes looked up at Terra again as he placed one hand on his shoulder , 

“ I’ve got you . Always .  ”

She wanted to believe that, truly she did but tragedy after tragedy seemed to dwindle Jill's hope. For years she was used as a weapon. A MONSTER that killed countless people -

How could she redeem herself after all that? In this moment it felt so out of reach - even with Terra's attempted words of comfort.

"....... But will it really? - after everything I've - ....." teeth bit down on her bottom lip, halting her sentence.

● – || It was Terra’s birthday today and , naturally , Fubuki spent the last three months fretting about what the perfect gift would be . He knew it didn’t have to be anything [ [ s p e c t a c u l a r ] ] , but he did know that he wanted it to be special .  He had even asked his sister if it was good enough of a gift and , of course , she gave him very little hope that it was actually good at all . Though , she did support his choice . So , he thought that good enough . 

When the day arrived , Fubuki made extra care to set everything up by Terra’s bed before he woke up . Wrapped in green and gold striped paper with a gold and emerald bow was a little tea cup and a saucer . The tea cup was decorated in swirls and earthly patterns all of Terra’s favourite colours . The saucer , matched [ [ p e r f e c t l y ] ] . Something small that Fubuki hoped Terra would enjoy [ [ a n d ] ] think of him when he saw it . A book , wrapped in the same matching paper , that was a love story -- of a prince and a knight who fell in love despite a world of obstacles against them . And , lastly , a card:  Dear Terra, Happy Birthday. I do hope that you find these gifts well. I wanted to gift you something that I thought you may enjoy, even if small. I wish you nothing but the best on this joyous day. I love you, Terra.  Forever yours, Fubuki Spring.

Her instinct was to reassure him that of course she trusted him that shouldn't be up for debate. But then reality caught up with her. He had no reason to believe that she trusted him. Not with how she behaved back then. Not with the way she kept tabs on the worlds he visited.

Not when he told her himself that he'd struck Master Eraqus down.

She never got the full story there, but something in her gut told her that Xehanort had his hands in that too. At the time however? Well... there was a lot she was still unsure of.

Regardless, he had every reason in the world to doubt her.

How could she ever make things up to him?

Well, now was as good a time as any. She hoped. If he'd let her, that is.

"... I trust you, Terra. I know I've done a terrible job of showing it but... I do."

Not to say that he was stubborn , but Riku [ [ w o u l d ] ] say that he was going to make Terra's life hell if he didn't stop squirming so he could help him recover . One of them had to get hurt on their mission and it [ [ w a s n ' t ] ] Riku , for once . Well , maybe he got hurt a little but nothing compared to Terra .

He continued to sit next to Terra on his bed with a rag and a bowl of warm water , using the rag to clean up the blood .

" -- I know I don't have to take care of you . I'm doing this because I want to , not because I have to . Knowing you , you were going to walk this off like you always do . "

● – || If [ [ a n y o n e ] ] knew the Prince well in the SLIGHTEST they would know that Noctis was not a fan of gatherings , let alone balls or large crowds . This festival was [ [ a l l ] ] of that and more and it was starting to get to him . How he tolerated this when he [ [ w a s n ' t ] ] allowed to drink he didn't understand .

Actually , he did . . . it was called sneaking off to places he shouldn't so that he could be alone with his thoughts .

He had lost count of [ [ h o w m a n y ] ] glasses of wine he had had that night . He knew he had one before the event started , then another maybe thirty minutes in . One more hour , another glass . . . So , maybe this request was for glass number five when he stumbled into the knight .

" I think you think you're right . "

Noctis fumbled through his sentence as his hazy eyes looked up at Terra . A small chuckle -- a [ [ g i g g l e ] ] -- nearly broke his thought as he did , in fact , stumble over his own two feet right into Terra's hand . He gave it a light squeeze as he balanced himself , forcing himself to stand back upright . As his waist is taken in to , Noctis' feet take one step [ [ i n w a r d ] ] so that he could properly be positioned against Terra .

" I didn't fall , I was caught . " He said matter-of-factly . " I [ [ c o u l d ] ] have one more dance with you . . . You dance well . "

The dangers of alcohol is how they make the user relax . In Noctis ' case , it took everything he kept so FIRMLY under wraps and tugged that ribbon away , releasing the Prince no one got to see .

A hue of crimson painted itself across Noctis' cheeks as he looked up at Terra . Bright , blue eyes found sanctuary in warm brown as he squeezed Terra's hand again .

" We . . . should go somewhere quiet . "
