Summary: There's a universe where Bucky Barnes survives Hydra and lives a quiet life all on his own. But Bucky's days soon become an endless, lonesome routine. He has no idea he could be living a vastly different life until he's accidentally transported to Earth 616, switching places with his other self, and finds himself at a home in Louisiana with a man named Sam Wilson.

Excerpt:

He pushes himself to his feet. He turns about to stalk over to his fridge which he knows he'll find empty, leaving him to go to the corner-store deli for the hundredth time. He's nearing the fridge when suddenly, he can't move anymore. Yet he's moving all at once. His breath shortens, his chest restricts with panic. The space around him warps, he can't see his apartment anymore. It's a mix of colors and shapes with swirling particles.

Everything is flying or maybe he's flying, he can't tell. His body drops fast, he squeezes his eyes shut. He's falling and falling until everything abruptly halts. He waits in the stillness, too scared to open his eyes. He takes a long beat before slowly opening them again.

The walls aren't beige anymore, they're painted a shade of blue as light as the sky with pure white moldings encasing them. Long pale curtains frame wide windows and the sun is shining so strongly through the glass Bucky knows this can't be Brooklyn. He sits up and discovers he's lying on a couch. It's dark gray with orange throw pillows. The couch extends around half of the room filling a good portion of the large living room Bucky's found himself in.

Ok, I liked seeing gifs from movies where Seb was cast and thinking "What if it was in TFATWS?"

Sam was proud of Bucky. The man was getting better day by day. Some days were better than others, but it was normal in a situation like his.

It was his niece's birthday and the girl just loved Barnes. When she asked him if he could go to her birthday party, he couldn't help but say yes. That day Sam found out that Bucky was just unable to say "no" to a kid.

Sam wanted to warn him to don't spoil his niece because she was surely going to take advantage of this, but he wasn't able to do this after Bucky told him that her personality reminded him of Becca.

He knew that Bucky was nervous surrounded by all those people and made sure to be near to him so he could feel more comfortable. The kids were monopolizing Bucky's attention anyway, asking for him to talk about Wakanda, so he just sat down on the grass with them and started talking.

Bucky was used to be surrounded by kids (he was the oldest of four siblings and, back in Wakanda, the local kids were always following him around most of the time), so he was relaxed and didn't look any stressed. He was comfortable there, so Sam just let him talking with the kids and assured their parents that Bucky was safe to be around.

Sam thought that Bucky was joking when he said he wasn't able to say "no" to a kid, but he found out it was really true when his niece ran to the man with a plastic princess crown, asking him to use it, and he did it without even questioning.

If Barnes wanted to stay sit on the grass, talking with the kids, drinking soda and eating small savory snacks while wearing a princess crown, Sam was going to personally fight anyone who tried to bother him.

Sam was talking with his brother when he heard his sister calling him and Bucky to move a table. He walked to where she was, seeing the other man standing up and following him by the corner of his eyes.

"The kids like you." His sister smiled to Bucky while they moved the table to where she pointed.

"The adults just want to make me talk about the Winter Soldier, but the kids just want to hear about Wakanda and all the times I had to take Steve out of trouble, so I can say I like them too." Bucky shrugged.

"Well, thank you for helping moving the table. You can go back to your new friends now." And she looked to Sam "Come help me to bring the cake. I don't want to drop it and we know I will if I try to bring it alone."

Sam went with her to the kitchen and helped her taking the cake to the table. As soon as the cake was at a safe place, she said he could go.

He stopped walking as soon as he saw Barnes basically corned by two women that were talking nonstop. He was clearly trying to find an excuse to get out of there and his eyes shined in relief when he saw Sam. He could almost hear Bucky's voice saying "Get help, please".

I was thinking abt it and I think why I’m able to enjoy the show so much is cause I’m black, everything they’re addressing abt racism isn’t new to me, but then you see a lot of ppl who I think are feeling white guilt and who keep saying that “everyone is making the show abt race and it’s annoying” even tho a big theme in the show...is race? Idk I just think it’s interesting to see the different reactions to the show and why that might be.

This is interesting! I think this is why I’m able to enjoy the show as well. I knew that race was going to play a big role and being a Black American, I’ve dealt with these feelings and scenarios myself... so it doesn’t really phase me— it’s not shocking or uncomfortable. I also didn’t expect Bucky to understand what Sam is going through or to come to his defense in some spectacular way because he’s white. I know from experience that my white friends don’t recognize many forms of racism, so when confronted with situations like the bank scene, or the cops asking Sam for his ID, they simply just don’t act. So for me, having first hand knowledge, yeah, it isn’t new lol so I’m not surprised by it.

We’ve all known that this show was going to be about race from the very beginning, and the fact some white watchers are uncomfortable or down right angry about the infusion of race is a good thing in my opinion lol the MCU is obviously making a shift towards more diverse story telling. It isn’t going to go away— so either deal with it, or quit watching :)

But also, I think a lot of people had a lot of expectations for this show, Sam and Bucky particularly. If you just don’t like the characterizations of Sam or Bucky, that’s one thing, but I see a lot of talk about being disappointed that they aren’t earth-616 Sam and Bucky and to that I reiterate that the MCU is NOT the comics. It never has been, so I think a lot of people set themselves up for disappointment from the beginning. I also think some people were expecting this to play out like a SamBucky fanfic where Bucky is just gonna have heart eyes for Sam and follow him around like a love sick puppy.

If anyone don't know 616 is the prime universe which is like the main universe for marvel comics. I'm quite critical towards MCU and their fucked up story arcs of my all time favourite characters. So ya lil warnings I wanna give about me regarding mcu. Because fuck MCU.

Loves EMH, AA AND Heroes United. Into superior Ironman (White suit is awesome don't @ me). Also liked secret empire (though I was on the edge while reading it). I LOVE (more like obsessed with) Hawkeye - life as weapon and Hawkeye - Little Hits. I also want to recommend, that is if anyone even want to read, Tales of suspense - Hawkeye and winter soldier (which takes place after secret empire), Loki - The God who fell to earth, Ultimates, Avengers Prime, Capitan American and Ironman: Night in Madripoor, Hawkeye vs Deadpool, Avengers Endless war time, The Avengers (2010 - 2012) by Brain Michael Bendis, definitely Secret Empire (2017). (Will add more in the future), Hawkeye : Freefall is in my wish list.

For SB week, when you say alternate reality do you mean like an alternate marvel reality (like Earth 616) or just any au in general (like florist & tattoo parlor or high school au, etc.)

...but then a bitch remembers that Smiling Tiger was played by Anthony Mackie in TFATWS, and Smiling Tiger was also a member of Thunderbolts Army in Earth-616.

Sooooooooo, maybe we’ll get an MCU Smiling Tiger Thunderbolts cameo? Maybe for a second Bucky thinks that Conrad is Sam, and his heart skips a beat? Maybe someone says, “Conrad, you kinda look like Captain America.” And Bucky’s like, “Pfft. He wishes he was as pretty as Sam Wilson.” 

Maybe Sam has to go undercover as Smiling Tiger again at some point to infiltrate the Thunderbolts? Maybe Bucky has to protect him from blowing his cover again? Maybe they go on an undercover mission together, have to stay in a safehouse, and there’s only one motherfucking bed?

In Every Other Universe

I'm very excited to participate in my first AU Prompt Week! This is for day one of #sambuckyauweek2022, hope you enjoy!

Summary: America tells Sam and Bucky that in every other universe they are happily married. On Earth-616, the platonic partners don't know how to handle this news.

Excerpt:

Sam should have gotten water when he had the chance. God, he's thirsty. It's getting hard to smile when his tongue's starting to feel like sandpaper.

He really shouldn't complain so much. He knows he could easily excuse himself and walk over to the bar to finally get a glass of water and maybe a neat glass of whiskey as well. Ah, that sounds nice. Some hydration and a salty burn down his throat to make him lighter on his feet. He needs to feel lighter, he's been standing for hours and all he wants to do is sit the hell down but, apparently, this event has turned into a Captain America meet and greet.

The man in front of Sam refuses to stop shaking his hand. Sam's pretty sure he's been shaking this dude's hand for a good fifteen minutes, the guy seriously won't let go. He's rambling on and on about how much he stands for justice and everything Captain America believes in. More people are getting in line behind the man probably to thank Sam, congratulate him, or ask for a photo. It's been a mixture of the three all night.

Finally, the stranger lets Sam's hand go when some drunk lady twirls across the dance floor and stumbles into a few chairs causing a loud enough eruption that everyone turns towards the commotion.

Sam hastily slips away as fast as his tired legs will move him. He sneaks to the edge of the room and travels far back to a lone table that's sitting in a shadowed corner. He stumbles into a chair and takes one singular breath of relief before a voice rings from behind him.

"Hey, your husband's stealing all the cheese."

Sam sighs heavily trying to keep his composure, he has to. No matter how tired he is, he needs to keep up the honorable act. He's Captain America now. So, he pivots in his chair and finds a young girl staring back at him.

"Huh?" Sam smiles wearily. "I think you got the wrong guy."

"Mm, nope. Sam Wilson, Captain America - right?"

"Yeah, that's me."

"And that guy is Bucky Barnes, right?" the girl asks as she spins around to point directly at Bucky who's currently hovering over the table full of hors d'oeuvres.

"Yeah, that's him," Sam answers.

"Your husband," the girl designates.

Sam breaks into an incredulous smile and shakes his head.

"No idea where you got that one. Bucky and I are definitely not married," Sam chuckles. 

The young brunette tilts her head curiously.

"We're partners - coworkers is a better word, actually," Sam clarifies. 

"Really?"

The girl appears positively shocked. She stands in place glancing back and forth between the two men.

"You guys aren't a thing at all?" she checks.

"Not even a little bit," Sam verifies.

Sam's not offended by the accusation but it is strange to him how absolutely astounded the girl seems by this fact. As if the idea of Sam not being married to Bucky is so out of place, it's unworldly.

Meanwhile, the reality is Sam and Bucky have just begun working together. Their status as partners is very recent. They've gone on one mission to defeat the Flag Smashers and it was honestly a pleasant surprise they came out of that as friends. So, the leap to fully devoted husbands sounds like a bit of a stretch to Sam.

"What's your name anyhow?" Sam asks keeping his tone light and friendly.

"America Chavez."

Sam recognizes the name. As Captain America, Sam is now kept well up to date and got intel surrounding the events with Doctor Strange and young America in front of him. 

"So, where'd you hear Bucky and I were married?" Sam inquires.

In perfect timing, Bucky steps up behind America but stops short when he hears the question.

"Sorry, I just assumed cause in every other universe you guys are happily married," America supplies.

Bucky chokes on a cube of cheese then, yes, chokes. Sam and America both watch the super soldier pound his chest and bend forward as he coughs up a cheese chunk. Bucky straightens back up and swings back his champagne glass for a large gulp.

"What?" Bucky gets out in his next free breath.

America merely shrugs with a smile.

"Yeah, who would've guessed this is the only one you're not," America says before narrowing her eyes at Bucky. "Stop stealing all the cheese."

She grabs his plate of cheese cubes and rushes off.

Bucky doesn't even put up a fight. He stares after her with an agape mouth and confusion painted over every line of his face. He twists back to Sam, completely baffled.

"What?" he stresses once more.

Sam breaks into a smile, shrugging as casually as America did.

Tagged by the incomparable @glittercake thank you 😊 doing this made me realise how ridiculous and full of stories I am. It’s too much. I need to sit in a corner and rethink my life choices. Also, that Anon from yesterday has me anxious about tagging ship names to promote my stories and it doesn’t feel nice, so if my followers and readers wouldn’t mind sharing this, that’d be great. Most popular multi-chapter fic:  Sous Couverture for Richonne and Deception for SamBucky. Which is so funny, because now that I think of it, they’re actually very similar. Undercover agents and criminals falling for one another. Pretty dark and violent. A lot of research went into both of these, so I’m happy they’re both popular.

Favorite story you’ve written so far: Red Dirt Road because no one has ever flamed me in the reviews for it. All of the readers were genuinely happy with it. 45 chapters, 1,438 reviews, and not one flame. Fandom was good to me. Also, The Boys of Summer because of the issues it deals with. I guess these two are similar as well, with the teenage first love stuff.

Fic you were nervous to post: Artifice. First time writing Dark!Steve Rogers x Reader. I was right to be nervous because it’s a fuckin’ flop that’s why I’m not including the link. It’s shitty. 

How you choose your titles: I don’t know. I’m not good with titles. Sous Couverture was the coolest title for a fic, and I didn’t even come up with it. I put the story outline and a snippet to the fandom and was given the awesome suggestion by @yunalili

Do you outline: I outline multi-chapter fics.

Complete: I’ve written like 120 something fics (not including the one-shots and tiny fics in chapter form). There are a buttload of two and three parters that are finished; a shit ton of one-shots; and upwards of twenty multi-chaps that are complete. It’s a lot to go back through. I can’t really say for sure without going through them all and I’m really too tired for that. 

In progress: Road Back Home; A Chance; The Boys of Summer; The Tribute; The Real Thing; Baked with Love; You Are My Sunshine; Artifice; The Rainbow Shield (I open the final chapter of this every day and I cry because it won’t write itself for me). Shurifold Earth-616 three-part Soulmate AU – Shuri travels with Eden to Australia where he has to take part in his cousin’s Promised One Ceremony. Shuri is intrigued and asks if Eden has a Promised One. He says he does. Angst ensues because while he is Promised to someone else, Shuri is his soulmate and they love one another. It’s taking me forever to finish because I’m hurting my own feelings with this one LOL

Nakoye multi-chapter in the manner of World of Wakanda TP, but throwing back to when the Dora were the King’s concubines. So, there’s a forbidden love element that is kicking me in the chest whenever I think of it – outlined. Will start after I finish The Boys of Summer.

SamBucky multi-chap Mob AU set in Luke Cage TV series timeline – three chappies written from the outline.

SamBucky multi-chap Vampire AU – Eternity Bores Me. It is outlined with a small snippet finished and posted here somewhere.

Richonne multi-chapter reunion fic – outlined with a chapter finished. It’s so painful which is why I am taking forever. That and TPTB won’t give us a definitive answer on when we will get the Rick movies.

Okoye x OC multi-chapter fic set in FATWS timeline – one chapter finished from the outline. Came about this idea from being in the group chat for hours with @morenachans talking about how it would be cool to have Andy Lincoln in the MCU.

SamMisty SamBucky vee poly AU – Metal Arm Pals and their Pretty Birdie set in Earth-616 Falcon and Winter Soldier comic books – just an idea at the moment. Secretly wishing someone else will write this for me, though.

Bucky Barnes x Monica Rambeau – Earth-616 Strikeforce comic books – don’t know if they’ll be more than friends or whatever, just like their dynamic and want to write something. Still just an idea.

Misty Knight x Colleen Wing College AU – still an idea.

Idea for an actual SamErik fic where they don’t break up lol I keep breaking them up in my stories. I have to stop doing that lol I like the idea of them crossing paths when they were both in the military.

Some SamSteve, eventually. I said I wanted to write for them, and I kind of have some ideas, but I haven’t outlined anything at all.

The problem it isn't with yours or Faith's writing, it's the fandom. Not only Sambucky's a small shipp, but also you guys don't write the fanon!Bucky. There's been a shift on the Sambucky tag were the writers is aiming more to bottom!Sam and to a mix of MCU and Earth-616 for Bucky's personality, that's way the feedback has been low (+)

(+) Some st*ck* shippers are willing to read SB, but only with fanon!Bucky. I've been here since the beginning and a lot of writers had go away because of the fandom. I hope you guys don't go away, too, really.

Hello, Anon. Thanks for this POV. Firstly, I gotta say I knew the $3.56 thing was a joke. Sorry I came off sarcastic. My response was meant to be lighthearted as a segue into advocating for readers to support writers on Ko-Fi. Readers can support me here:

I appreciate you taking the time to give some explanations to me. I won’t speak for @lesbians-love-samwilson, just myself. 

I know I haven’t been writing for this fandom for very long, but I have been writing in other fandoms for ages and I can tell when readers are dropping off. 

I really don’t want the blame or whatever it is to fall on other shippers. While I think it’s true about certain fans wanting Bucky to be a certain way, I don’t think it fully explains what’s been happening. 

I also think writers like me who incorporate and focus on 616 versions of Bucky while stepping away from fanon are bringing a lot more to MCU fandom and people are receptive to that. He has a lot of fans outside of MCU who have been enjoying reading his characterisation in MCU fics, so that’s something positive. 

Also, I think the onus of supporting SamBucky fic writers is on SamBucky shippers who read fics. We are quite capable of showing support for writers here. Some tips for those who are unsure:

- Reblog (even if it’s with a ‘to-read’ tag)

- Reblog (even if you don’t intend to read it, for your followers to see - tag with ‘icymi’ or ‘signal boost’)

- Add a comment via replies

- Share links

- Send Asks

- Buy a Coffee! 

I just wanted to say another thing: I know my writing isn’t the problem. I’m an excellent writer and I don’t have any issues with saying so. There are so many other excellent writers out there, too. But they don’t get half the fandom interactions I do, and that’s shitty. I’m not saying every reader has to support every writer, but if there’s something you read and you like it, let that writer know. I’m lucky that people talk to me about my stories all the time. Some fic writers aren’t that lucky. And if the drop in feedback is discouraging me, someone who feels supported and welcomed, imagine how discouraging it is for others? The ones who don’t get daily kudos; who aren’t on rec lists; who don’t get Asks; who don’t get reblogged; who have less than ten comments? It can be crushing for them. 

I wholeheartedly believe the onus for supporting fic writers is on the readers from said fandom. We writers don’t write for ourselves: We write for fandom, and fandom is meant to be interactive reciprocal. If readers aren’t showing or telling us they’re interacting with and enjoying our writing, then we don’t feel motivated to write. It’s that plain and simple. 

I’m sorry that so many writers have left, but I understand why. It’s not easy to write. A lot of time and energy goes into it. And in fandom, we aren’t viewed as talented and creative like fan artists. Feedback is what keeps us going, and the truth is, feedback has slowed.
