Ok because this has reached a truly surprising amount of people, and many wanted to know: the literal translations and meanings of these idioms.

Der / die hat nicht alle Tassen im Schrank (he / she doesn't have all cups in the cupboard): This person is a bit crazy. Usually not meant in a quirky or fun way, but in a mean way.

Da steppt der Bär (there steps / dances the bear): This place is the place to be for party.

Jetzt haben wir den Salat (now we've got the salad): Usually used to mean something like "now we see the consequences of our actions", used when facing an uncomfortable situation.

Wir sind doch nicht aus Zucker (we're not made of sugar): Usually said when someone complains about the rain, meant to indicate that a bit of rain doesn't hurt.

Es gibt kein schlechtes Wetter, nur schlechte Kleidung (there is no bad weather, only bad clothing): Another phrase about the rain, with the correct clothes the rain is not a problem.

Der frühe Vogel fängt den Wurm (the early bird catches the worm): Said as a motivation to get up early to achieve things. Favourite response: Der frühe Wurm wird gefressen (the early worm gets eaten).

Eine alte Frau / ein alter Mann ist doch kein D-Zug (an old woman / an old man is not an express train): Said by the "old" person in question, as a complaint about being rushed.

Das ist Jacke wie Hose (that's jacket as trousers): When faced with an either-or question, said to indicate that it doesn't matter.

Halt die Ohren steif (keep your ears stiff): Motivational phrase telling you to keep your head up in a difficult situation, or just life.

Wir wollen mal nicht päpstlicher sein als der Papst (we don't want to be more papal than the pope): Said to indicate that guidelines shouldn't be followed more strictly than necessary.

Nazca “Der frühe Vogel fängt den Wurm” ist wohl das neue Motto von Sonja und mir - auch Sonntags. 😉
Sind am morgen mit dem Flugzeug über die Wüste geflogen um die berühmten Nazca-Linien zu sehen. Der Flug in der Mini-Maschine war richtig toll und es ist die einzige Möglichkeit die Linien wirklich gut zu sehen. 
Nachmittags ging's noch zu den Pyramiden Cahuáchi und zu den Mumien auf dem Friedhof Chauchilla. Per Bus ging es dann über Nacht weiter nach Arequipa. “The early bird catches the worm” is the current motto of Sonja and me - also last Sunday. 😉
We flew with a small plane above the famous Nazca-Lines at the early morning. Taking a plane is the only opportunity to see the lines very well. 
At the afternoon we went further to the pyramids (Cahuáchi) and to the mummies at the cemetery Chauchilla. 
The bus got us over night to Arequipa. 22.10.2017
