Mega Brand Q&A with Hajime Kanzaka 7/2013 to 11/2013, translated
It looks like these were missed, and there are a few from 2012 and 2011 as well that I will post tomorrow hopefully, and then there are a few months where none of the questions related to Slayers but random stuff like what sort of foods HK likes and if someone else wants to tackle those, be my guest :-)
As for this one, find out how Lina started fighting bandits! Good material for a fanfic if I ever get around to tackling her origins, lol.
11/2013
No Slayers stuff. Check out the link in the date if you like.
10/2013
Q: I was listening to the second episode of the returning Slayers EX.2, "The Zelgadis Remodeling Project," and I was thinking. I have a feeling that by adding the idea of making a copy of Zel and the idea of adding human elements to Zel, and then adding a copy of Zel (the human part) to Zel, I can get 99.9% of Zel's body. Is this an evil method? When I first heard about this, I thought Lina was going to suggest this method. ......
KANZAKA: "The first problem is whether it is technically possible to make a copy of only the human part of Zel, and even if it were possible, it would not be possible to make a copy of only the human part of Zel. Even if it were possible, Zel, who would be as close to human as possible, would have to wonder, "Am I the original Zelgadis or the copied Zelgadis?
Q: In "The Ghosts of Sairaag," why was Eris, pretending to be a bounty hunter, persistently chasing after Zel when her number one objective was Lina? If she knew that Lina, Gourry, and Zel were going to gather in Sairaag, wouldn't it have been better to wait for them in Sairaag with Copy Rezo? Or was it that Eris was more recognized by Rezo for her magic than Zel, but her name wasn't as well known?
She defeated Lina Inverse, who defeated the Red Priest, and even Zelgadis the White (of the actual force)!" Was this to add even more glory to her name?
KANZAKA: "As for Eris, she was ultimately going to take revenge on all the members who killed Rezo. I think she decided to go after Zel who 'betrayed Rezo' first."
Q: Don't gods create subordinates like demons? "Or can't they?"
KANZAKA: This is the same as demons, it depends on their personality. When Ceifeed was about to perish, he hurriedly created four dragon kings as a countermeasure, but. However, each of them does not seem to be creating their own tribes at present. However, some of the other god clans in other worlds may have mass-produced their own subordinates.
9/2013
Q: In Slayers vs. Orphen, Naga hides her identity from Amelia, because she doesn't want her family to know she's dressed like that? I heard that her mother hid it too.
KANZAKA: "As for Naga, I think he wanted to hide his true identity. The reason for that is that Naga thinks 'it's cooler that way.'"
Q: Is Dynast still diminished in strength? Or will it recover with time?
KANZAKA: "I think he will regain some power after a long, long time."
Q: Lina was getting a lot of suspicion from the Mage Church for her report about the incident with Fibrizo. I think Amelia is royalty and I think she is very trustworthy. If it wasn't accepted, I think Lina would have gone ballistic.
KANZAKA: "In the first place, at that time, the existence of the Demon King and his accomplices was not confirmed by the Sorcerers Guild. Even if they reported that they had defeated an unidentified one, they would not have thought of a way to confirm it. They probably just thought that they had defeated the first monster that was deceiving them about the name of the big demon tribe."
08/2013
The first question is about a new Gundam movie and whether HK plans to see it, which he does. It’s long and I don’t feel like spending time on it, lol. Feel free to check out the link on the date if you do though!
Q: I heard that Luke was able to use the art of storing spells in objects when he met Lina, but if that is the case, did Luke create the sword that he used at first to activate the magical wind and the Sword of Absorption (Sticky Sword)? It's hard to imagine that he happen to own a number of swords that resemble Luke's fighting style to that extent.
KANZAKA: "To some extent, they were acquired by chance. It's more like Luke adjusted his spells in response."
Q: When Rezo said, "Do you want some help?” if Zel had said to Rezo, "No, I don’t need your help." Would Rezo have given up and looked for someone else, and Zel would have continued to lead an ordinary life in human form, never meeting Lina and the others or fighting the Demon King?
KANZAKA: "As for Rezo, I think he would have created a situation where Zel could have easily said, 'Yes' but I don't think he completely forced him to do so. The reason for this is not because they are relatives, but because Rezo himself is not the type to completely force himself on anyone."
07/2013
Q: Do you think Gourry of Slayers has love for his hometown?
KANZAKA: "Of course he is nostalgic for his hometown as much as anyone else, but I don't think he has reached the level of love for his hometown.(He may have disliked his own home (because of the family feud over the Sword of Light), but I don't think he even disliked the land where he lived."
Q: What did Zel think of his hair that grew to the same side as Rezo's?
KANZAKA: "He must have thought it was a great hindrance when he was working in forested areas."
Q: Lina is well known throughout the world as the "Bandit Killer," but she started her journey at the age of 13, and was 15 when she met Gourry. The fact that the name "Bandit Killer" was already well-known during the Specials period means that she started being called "Bandit Killer" rather soon after she started her travels. What was it that made Lina start bullying bandits? Also, being a genius mage alone, was Lina able to fight her first real battle with ease?
KANZAKA: "Let's put aside age: ...... At first, she was just going to take a request as a normal job and head out to exterminate bandits. (But she must have gotten a taste for it because it was more efficient (defeating bandits and collecting their treasures) than receiving a reward for doing the job.)
By the way, my impression at the first battle was, 'Oh, this is much easier than dealing with my sister.’

Some more fan-made Nuke-Level crystal concepts I made for Storm Hawks. Though I try to edit digitally (as well as rearrange the order), I feel like I messed up on their coloring. Below the line are their name and descriptions.
Shadow Frost Crystal: A highly powerful crystal linked to the Demon Lord Grausherra Dynast. Use of it emits a shadowy frost which can freeze the target into nearly unbreakable ice. Records of the crystal state that touching it directly is so cold that it burns.
Dynast Stone: Less powerful crystals that are derived from the Dark Lord Dynast. Though lacking, they make up in versatility, exhibiting both ice and lightning properties. Also, they are known to be cold to the touch.
Deepsea Crystal: A rare crystal with magics that comes from Deep Sea Dolphin. It is highly powerful, able to create powerful water shockwaves. However it has a volatile nature and, according to some texts, supposedly causes hallucinations.
Dolph Stone: These crystals are uncommon vessels that draw from Deep Sea Dolphin’s power but to a lesser extent. They’re known to manipulate water, creating powerful torrents to blast back any opposition. Though you need to be close to water in order to use it.
Beast Brid Crystal: Linked to Beastmaster Zelas, the Beast Brid Crystal draws from ancient and feral energies. It can shoot bolts of light at an enemy as well as enhance the user’s body. But prolonged use of it causes behavioral as well as physical changes.
Beastia Stone: Crystals that are rumored to be affiliated with Beastmaster. When used, they give the user physical enhancements as well as animalistic characteristics. They’re also used as a core for chimera experimentations.
Holy Zephyr: Uncommon crystals that are vessels imbued with holy power. They perform many uses such as healing, empowering others, and sealing and vanquishing evil. While not as powerful as the Divine Light, they still require a certain amount of vitality for use.
Stellar Stone: These crystals are affiliated with spirits and are used for basic white and spirit magic. Depending on their grade, they can exert high-level magic equal to that of any high-class Demon’s Blood.
#Storm Hawks#Slayers#Crystal#Fan-made#I probably should think about practicing better coloring with my markers#Also I question my naming conventions#Like I think I hit the ball with 'Shadow Frost' (Thanks WoW!)#But then I get names like 'Dynast' and 'Dolph'#...

For the Dark OC Asks game!: 5, 7 and 11! :D
How about we go with another one of my slayers OC's. This one's a mazoku in Dynast Grausherra's service. (or more specifically...Grau's service)> Her name is Augre, and she's an animate shadow of many faces who's primary duty is infiltration and assassination to move the cogs of political manipulation in Dynast's favor. 5: What is your OC's moral code? Augre's unburdened by typical human morality, but she does hold herself to a particular code: -Strive to Impress -Attain a perfect imitation every time -Obey Grau's orders -Only kill when Instructed. It's not exactly a moral code, as much as a series of rules she lives by. 7:How far is your OC willing to go to get what they want? As far as it takes. She once infiltrated the holy city of Seyruun and built a false identity from the ground up to seduce Prince Phil after his father died in a bid to steal the crown. She spent countless nights as an attentive confidant and lover , all in the service of her Lord's dream. She's lied, cheated, killed and impersonated to get what she wanted before, and she'd do it again. 11: Has your OC ever tortured someone? Absolutely ;) On one hand, the miasma released by a tortured human is delicious. On the other, some information can only be attained through the application of pain...and her impersonations HAVE to be perfect.

for the choose violence askmeme: do these for slayers so that if i watch i can keep an eye out. 13. worst blorboficiation, 17. there should be more of this type of fic/art, and 10. worst part of fanon
worst part of fanon
There's a tendency to portray the mazoku lords as being like. One Big Quirky Happy Family, which I think is mostly just fans deliberately bein' goofs but does get portrayed seriously or semi-seriously enough for me to go "Hm."
Quick info dump explanation: There's the dark lord Ruby Eye Shabranigdu, the most powerful of mazoku, basically our equivalent of Satan and wants to destroy the world. He made five subordinates named (iirc) Chaos Dragon Gaav, Hellmaster Phibrizzo, Dynast Grausherra, Beastmaster Zelas Metallium, and Deep Sea Dolphin. Each of those five mazoku lords has made various subordinates of their own, referred to as the mazoku generals and mazoku priests. Xellos, general-priest of Zelas and her only subordinate, is also the only one who appears in the anime.
Anyway, there's a tendency to have it like "Shabranigdu is the grandpa, the five mazoku lords are his kids, and the generals and priests are the grandkids :)" with things like Xellos referring to the mazoku lords aside from Zelas as aunt or uncle. Again, this seems to be mostly a joke but you know how it is with fandom jokes that kind of start getting treated as actually how things are.
I don't particularly care for this because I straight up think it's OOC for them to relate to one another in a familial way or even have much affection for one another. The most I can see is the priests/generals having a sense of fealty towards and a desire to be valued by the specific lords that created them, as well as all mazoku-kind being like. Shabranigdu is the most powerful and the most important of us, his goal is our goal. But I don't see them hanging out or calling each other auntie or nephew or anything.
-I just wrote out this whole ramble and then I remembered that there's "Rezo is a sexual predator who probably molested his grandson" content out there. Actually that is the worst fanon. The Mazoku Bunch is fine, actually.
worst blorboficiation
tbh I'm not sure what blorboficiation means. The character the fandom most obsesses over??? Probably Xellos and/or Zelgadis, but I feel bad calling them the "worst" because I like them and think they're interesting. Good blorboficiation.
there should be more of this type of fic/art
[sweats desperately as i try to think of an answer that isn't the obvious]
Uhhhh I think I'd like to see more stuff of the various minor characters, from one-offs like Ashford and Miwan, to more secondary characters like Zangulus, Martina, or the Overworlders from TRY. Slayers in general I think does have an interesting world and I kind of wish it was explored more in fic, which tends to be very centered on shipping tbh and doesn't really prioritize other stuff.
-Related, this may be part of why I am not as bothered as other people by the main party becoming more supporting protagonist-ish in the later seasons.

Slayer 17 spoilers chapter 1
Ok, I just read the first chapter thanks to @sherrachan and just... I can’t.
Lina and Gourry found Norst, the Priest of (the dead) Lord Mazoku Dynast Grausherra. You know. The asshole who let his other general Sherra to be killed and stated that generals and priests are nothing but tools. Sherra, who died willingly to further his plans and has the mazoku equivalent of a crush on him.
#Justice4Sherra
And what Norst do? This overpowered 80s metal band demon meets Lina, pees himself, rambles about how stupid would be to piss off Lina the Mazoku Slayer, does things for the aesthetic because his Master is dead but whatever, pinky promise to not destroy the world in the next 10 years or so, and teletransport the couple out of the fucking hemisphere in which they were.
Iconic
#slayers#slayers 17#slayers spoilers#norst#dynast grausherra#norst is my spirit animal#also he seems the only rational mazoku out there#like#hellmaster had an eeevvviiiiillll plan#garv was idiot#their priests and generals are suicidal#and dont let me start with xellos and whatever hes doing for the LOLZ#slayernina writes stuff

Sketched a kind of tough girl pose and thought it would suit Sherra, so here she is. I've always liked her design, especially her over coat. I've only really done a portrait pixel of her as well as the PPG, so it's nice to have something proper.
Now if only they'd do another season of the anime where she could make an appearance...

December 2022 Megabura
Special thanks to @lovingastory for helping with the translation for the third question (the rest was done through the help of DeepL). And for all you Gourrina fans I highly suggest checking out the third question ;-)
No news on novel 18, and no news on when the short story will be released.
Original link here, translation below!
1. When Dynast was forced to separate the terminal in the material world from his main body in the spiritual world by the Zenafa armor, why did he not immediately remake a new terminal and rescue the separated terminal?
If the consciousness of Dynast was left behind in the terminal and the consciousness of the main body was lost for a while, wasn't Dynast actually in danger of extinction at that time?
KANZAKA: "At that moment, Dynast split the main body in two, if I may say so, but he judged that it was possible to reverse the situation from that situation.
However, this did not come to pass, resulting in a significant weakening of the body."
2. Poison Elimination Spell (I assume they mean Dei Cleary but I am not sure on this). Does this spell work for food poisoning, mushroom poison, pufferfish poison, and so on?
Kanzaka: "Basically, it is a technique that raises the self-healing ability of the patient, so the results will completely vary depending on the constitution of the patient. People with a high immune system will show a high level of effectiveness.
3. In the last part of volume 8, Lina said, "I gave an unmarked magic sword as a souvenir to my sister in my hometown.”
Did she intend to prepare any souvenirs (not swords, but famous sweets, sake, magic items, etc.) for this trip home?
Did she have anything in her possession at the time of the Atessa in volume 16?
KANZAKA: She carried some sort of jewel talismans. She intended to make them her souvenirs, but had they managed to return all right, Gourry, whom she carried with her, would have been enough of a souvenir I think. Story-telling wise

Q: It seems like for a Mazoku, their creator’s orders are absolute. Would they still obey if their creator became far weaker than them? For instance, one of the parts of the Dark Lord being weak despite being 100% awakened, or Chaos Dragon, who barely had any power thanks to being mixed with a human. Which of the Mazoku’s tendencies would take precedence, “obey the strong” or “the creator is absolute”?
K: It depends on how the Mazoku was created. If they were created to swear absolute loyalty to their creator, that’s how they’ll behave. If not, then they won’t necessarily do so.
Thank God he finally got that right. That bullshit about power trumping loyalty really bothered me.
Q: I remember saying you saying before that Deep Sea Dolphin has one male and one female subordinate. Riksfalto from Knight of Aqualord has a woman’s body… So does that mean that despite her looks, Hureika is really a man? I’ve wondered about this for years, so if you could give me an answer, I’d really appreciate it.
K: When I said “Deep Sea Dolphin has one male and one female subordinate”, I think that was in response to a question from “Megabura”, but I forgot about it when the comic was created. It’s a bad idea to get caught up in the moment and say things at random. I still do it, though.
How are we supposed to take anything as canon when you contradict yourself constantly get your shit together Kanzaka
Q: Dynast used Sherra as a tool. In the same way, does he also consider himself an instrument of the Dark Lord?
K: Dynast thinks of himself as the Dark Lord’s instrument, and even considers it an honor. So he’s even fine with referring to his subordinates as instruments.
Yeah this is Grausherra to a T, though. Man has no sense of humor
Q: If the rate of desertification in the Desert of Destruction and the sea life in the Demon’s Ocean are abnormal, then has anything strange happened to the North Pole and Wolf Pack Island, where Dynast and Greater Beast are based?
K: In the Desert of Destruction’s case, they have the clear purpose of ending civilization, so they are interfering with the ecosystem, but on Wolf Pack Island, where that’s not so much the case, not much of anything has happened.
It also helps when your power is all death related. I mean, nothing is gonna grow around Hellmaster. It just is the natural order of things. I mean, I can barely keep cacti alive, and I’m infertile, soooo...

failure: What's your OC's greatest failure? Have they been able to move past it? Does anyone else know about it?
Answering for another Slayers OC actually. Dame Loretta , a knight sworn into service of a young man who held one of the shards of Shabrinigdo. She grew up in the service of his family basically right alongside the young man, as both his future protector and his childhood friend. It was her duty to protect him when he finally set out on a mission to hone his innate magical skills with a small party of adventurers. Loretta failed when a moment's hesitation against Sherra , the General of Dynast Grausherra, lead to her being impaled upon the woman's sentient sword. Her hesitation came at the worst moment, borne of of a single second of doubt when Sherra claimed that 'the greatest way she could help her young master was by letting him reach his full potential'. Loretta was converted by Sherra into one of her mazoku underlings, and instilled with an intense feeling of loyalty and subservience towards the General. Nobody else knows but her and Sherra, only that she 'died' during the fight and was lost. They don't know how, or why. Just that she was 'gone'. Loretta, unable to move past it due to her new existence, has twisted it into a perverse sense of continued loyalty, helping her mistress in her attempts to awaken the shard within her young master 'to help him reach his full potential', just as Sherra had promised.

The Demon Generals’ Experience with the Internet
Dynast Grausherra: Doesn’t bother with human technology. Only has Facebook.
Beastmaster Zelas Metallium: Very famous internet sensation. Pretty much has accounts across the web. Also has a side NSFW kink blog that may contain vore.
Deep Sea Dolphin: Queen of Shitposts. Livestreams speeches on Youtube at times
Demon Dragon King Gaav: Weaponry/Battle Aesthetics. Also blogs dragons pics
Hellmaster Phibrizzo: Has to convince people he’s old enough to be on the internet.

I’m getting over a serious funk right now and with no better ideas, I gave that design of Dynast Grausherra that popped up recently a shot.
He’s a tricky character to nail down since all the official art I know of has him wearing that stupid helmet and most depictions seem to call back to this random piece of fan art where he’s kind of a CLAMP looking dark haired prettyboy in armor.
I lengthened his face to make him a little older looking from the drawing since I figure he ought to if he was passing for a king.

Dynast based off of that time when the girls decided to become new superheros, and Buttercup went all Spawn and named herself "Mange". Since the only official art of Dynast is from behind in shadows, this was literally the only way to pull him off without just drawing a fan design, but I think it turned out alright.
