“alicent making homophobic remarks the night of laena’s funeral isn’t cool considering laenor was shown to be heavily grieving his sister and didn’t deserve to be attacked during it (not to mention it was an obvious ploy on alicent’s part to divert attention from her committing literal treason).”
“b-bUT WHAT ABOUT DAEMON AND RHAENYRA FUCKING-“
i’m not gonna lie i don’t particularly care that they had sex that night. was it disrespectful? for sure. did it harm anyone for them to do it? it, in fact, did not. two consenting adults having sex away from prying eyes and keeping to themselves < an entitled boy purposely calling a girl at her mother’s funeral (whom he had never interacted with before) a pig and ridiculing her grief. laena’s storyline was cut short because the writers decided she wasn’t important enough to make into a proper character that isn’t at the mercy of other characters (it’s something i’m forever going to be salty about, daemon and rhaenyra loved her with all their hearts and were absolutely devastated when she passed) but out of those two scenarios who do you think she would be more upset with?
the people who bring this up in retaliation cannot handle alicent taking any criticism whatsoever. in all honesty i wouldn’t even care if her fans would just say ‘yeah, it was shitty. don’t really care though.’ it would at least save me the time of reading think piece after think piece on why alicent deserved to get her lick back against rhaenyra for her lot in life (caused by otto and viserys) by focusing on her pain rather than her son’s. these are the same people who try to claim that most of rhaenyra’s children and step children secretly hate her, due to wanting ‘complex and nuanced relationships’ to occur (they actually also can’t handle that rhaenyra was a great mom all around to all of her kids, and that maybe they need to be focusing those feelings on the green kids with their parents instead). let’s be serious for just one moment: it makes more sense that the children who were neglected by one parent and abused by the other having complicated familial feelings than children who were (for the most part) raised in a relatively stable and loving environment.

Thinking about Alicent and and Visery’s wedding day.
Everyone in the realm is set to attend the kings wedding. The expectation to put on a happy face is high, but everyone loved aemma and it hasn’t even been a full year since her death. Rhaenyra has to attend of course but she’s loathing every second of it and makes it known to everyone, especially Alicent. Corlys and Rhaenys don’t even attend and it’s a huge point of gossip. Even worse is that daemon *does* attend and makes things so much worse by the drinking and loud complaining he does. Viserys at first tries to curb his attitude but eventually gets worn down (and they later get so drunk together you’d think it was someone else’s wedding) and eventually just lets him run loose. The gossip between attendees is insane. Alicent is more alone and younger than she has ever felt in her life, wearing a wedding dress that is both too big and far too suffocating for her. When Otto sees her ready for the ceremony he’s painfully reminded of his own wife and has no words for his young daughter he’s about to give away. She holds her breath as if waiting for a final moment where he says she won’t have to go through with it, that he loves her, that it’s all a bad dream, but all he says as he offers his arm is ‘the kingdom is waiting’. Rhaenyra doesn’t look at her through the entire ceremony despite the desperate looks she sends her way. Alicent wears gloves to hide her bleeding fingers but speckles of red show through the fabric as she takes her new husband to be’s hand before the sept.
When it’s time to consummate the marriage later that night she bleeds and bleeds and bleeds on the marital bed and Viserys doesn’t stay the rest of the night

I have this Rhaena-centric fanfic idea where she decides to go on a little shopping spree in Spicetown but finds herself distracted by a book supplier and is so engrossed in the various books and scrolls that she doesn't return to Castle Driftmark on time. Team Black, who have visited Driftmark, notice that Rhaena's not at the dinner table. Worried for his betrothed, Lucerys leaves the table and heads toward her room. He knocks once, twice, three times, and even calls her name for good measure, but she doesn't answer. Lucerys slowly opens the door and peeks inside only to find her chambers empty and a few things gone. There's a deep misunderstanding and suddenly, the whole family thinks that Rhaena took the gold she'd been saving and ran away. The Blacks start panicking and nearly tear Castle Driftmark apart in their search for Rhaena before mounting their dragons, flying across the sea, searching ships, and ports, and frantically posting rewards for anyone who might have seen her.
While chaos ensues, Rhaena is happily continuing her little shopping spree and is in the process of buying new fabric to make a new cloak for Lucerys when one of the guards gets a clue and escorts her back to Castle Driftmark where she's being hugged and kissed by her family who acts as if she died and swear to do better by her. Poor Rhaena is just so confused, and everyone in the family has appointed themselves her personal bodyguard, growling at anyone who looks at her funny. They hover over her, practically riding her back
Poor Lucerys throws himself into training like never before and dedicates himself to his studies because he can't be Lord of Driftmark if his betrothed isn't safe. Joffrey clings to her and becomes her little shadow, wielding a wooden sword and poking anyone who dares to come near her without his say-so.
Rhaenyra attends every single one of Rhaena's lessons and then sweeps her away to join her for long walks on the beach where they search for beautiful seashells.
Jace hires a taste tester for Rhaena's meals and escorts her to her chambers during the night to make damn sure that she won't disappear in thin air.
Baela drags Rhaena with her to the training yard so that she can keep a close eye on her while she's practicing her archery (Rhaena is disgruntled but cheers whenever Baela makes a perfect bullseye).
Corlys gently takes Rhaena by the hand and shows her his ships or regales her with LONG tales of his adventures. Rhaenys reads dragon lore with her in the castle library and brushes her hair or has her try out Laena's old jewelry.
As for Daemon, Rhaena doesn't need a sworn shield anymore since the guards have proved themselves incompetent and has taken it upon himself to drag Rhaena with him EVERYWHERE. Oh, someone needs killing? Okay, but Rhaena is coming with me. He'll commission a twin murder hoodie for Rhaena and she accompanies him on another mission to have someone killed. In the mood for dragon riding? Daemon plops Rhaena in front of him on Caraxes and they enjoy a flight in the sky. Why are you sitting so far away? Sit right here next to me. Daemon makes sure that Rhaena sits riiiiight next to him during dinner.

New fic Idea…?
So I was thinking about a fic last night after a few too many drinks🤣
Aemond and his twin sister present as Omegas, something that has never before happened in Targaryen history to even one of the blood of the Dragon, let alone twins.
They are even more desperate for each other than ever before as Otto tries desperately to hide the fact of them being “weak, needy Omegas” until he can marry them off individually, which his daughter argues as strongly as she can.
He keeps them apart, only letting them close when they can be watched by guards. As everyone comes to Kings Landing to fight for the inheritance of Lord of the Tides, Aemond and Y/n come face to face with their Alpha…Alphas
Daemon and Rhaenyra defied all odds by getting married and mating despite both being Alphas though they always knew they were waiting for an Omega to call theirs. They never expected to find two Omegas, and in the last place they would have thought to look…
Does this sound good or is it too crazy?😂🤣

TW: Abuse, child abuse
(I would like to say, I am not defending anyone’s actions. I also asks that you respect my opinion, we don’t have to agree but don’t be crazy. I am also discussing the show, I know what happens in the books.)
“I have sinned.”- Alicent Hightower
“I do not wish to hear it”- Otto Hightower
Team Green and their family dynamic are so interesting to me. It’s the cycle of abuse that keeps on giving. I haven’t seen a single Team Green member break from this cycle.
It’s starts with House Hightower, in specific, the expectations that are put on Otto Hightower by his family since he became the hand. He is expected to bring the Hightower blood upon the throne and is also the most powerful man next to the King.
He’s strictly religious and despises the customs of the Targaryens, but he stays because he knows that eventually he can use his own pawns (children and grandchildren) to intermix with the Targaryen blood and put Hightowers on the throne. He doesn’t really care for his daughter’s emotional needs, he manipulates her and forces her to act on the houses behalf. He’s constantly plotting on his next move and is honestly maybe one step ahead of everyone else. He doesn’t discuss his plans with his daughter, who is queen. The only time she’s clued in is when he whispers threats of death about what will happen when Rhaenyra takes the throne.
Alicent Hightower is a victim and an abuser. These two things can simultaneously be true. She’s a victim of her father’s abuse and the expectations of being a woman in a world ruled by men. Even when she has power, she never goes against the men who inflict the pain. Instead she uses her power to inflict that same pain onto other women and her own children. We see how she suffers as a victim to further push her father’s ambition and we also see how she’s an abuser. She inflicts punishments on Rhaenyra for simply fighting against the system in place, she hits her children, she isolates them from Rhaenyras children and she constantly tells them that Rhaenyra will kill them all if she takes the throne. She sets the same expectations her father places upon her onto her children, and we see how that affects each of her kids.
Aegon- the son the realm wanted but to Alicent he will always represent her stolen childhood, her stolen innocence, her stolen life she could have had. Aegon was expected to be the perfect prince, a king. Alicent can’t even pretend to comfort him when he’s crying for his dead child. She feels these immense sense of guilt, but she can’t even offer her son a simple act of kindness. She leaves.
Helaena- Helaena is the only daughter Alicent has and you’d expect her to protect her daughter from the very same fate she was put upon. No, instead she finds her own daughter strange. She doesn’t understand that Helaena is a dragon dreamer because she herself never wanted to dabble in the Targaryen customs. She finds Helaena strange and thinks her simple, which is a terribly thing to think of your own kid. She can’t bond with Helaena at all, she tries and fails. She never tries to get to know her children and she gets frustrated when they aren’t acting like she expect them to act.
Aemond-Aemond is a very special case. He would be considered the favorite child simply because he’s dutiful like his mother. Alicent doesn’t have to worry about Aemond because he does as he’s told. He’s the perfect prince. Aemond is the only child (before his eye was taken) that meets Alicents expectations. When Aemond’s eye is taken we really see how resentful he becomes. Alicent can’t even recognize her own son anymore.
Not only does the cycle of abuse continue but we see how the characters also abuse themselves. Alicent picks at her fingernails as a punishment, Aegon drinks himself silly, Helaena shuts down and Aemond becomes resentful. They find ways to not only abuse others but themselves at the same time.
From Otto, to Alicent, to Aegon, to Helaena, to Aemond.
It’s really funny to me because the ONLY reason that Team Green is fighting together is because they all have a common enemy; Rhaenyra. However, even with a common enemy in place they still are fighting amongst themselves. It’s a cycle that never stops turning.
It makes me wonder, what was the last act of kindness that they received?

Why do you think Rhaenyra had children with Harwin? They barely know each other but seeing as Jace is already 10 in the time jump she didn’t even wait before starting their affair. It just doesn’t make sense, one minute she’s telling Daemon to make her his wife and the next she’s sleeping with another man and has a 10 year relationship with him and Daemon’s never mentioned? Where is this is coming from???
i mean i think the simple answer is that he was safe and available. rhaenyra mentions that she and laenor attempted to have children together but that it never worked. she needed heirs to support her claim to the throne and laenor wasn’t going to be able to provide.
now, with regards to daemon, i think the simple fact is that she was groomed by him. she wanted to be his wife bc she saw in him the freedom that wasn’t afforded to her (also another smaller reason she had a relationship w harwin imo) and the “protection” he could offer her. when he is no longer an option, she can’t just like…wallow and languish.
i am also unsure if she ever actually loved daemon. rhaenyra’s gender struggles are not talked about enough, but i think she sees daemon as who she could have been if she was a man. daemon takes advantage of this in order to try and further his own political gain (and bc of his pseudo-romance with viserys), so idk if he ever loved rhaenyra either. (when i italicize the names like that, i mean the person, not the political gain or personal projection or prize etc)
i think it’s also important to remember in all of this that rhaenyra is like 17. she’s still a child, and a willful princess at that. her going “oh daemon left? well now i gotta find somebody else bc im not about to rape my gay husband” is not out of character.

Think with me here: it makes sense for a non-book reader?
If it does than the writers were successful in telling a story (if it’s good or bad it’s up to your tastes)
Why is there no food on the city if they can get food from the Reach by land?
The medieval transport of goods by sea vs by land is vastly different (the sea is faster and allows the food to arrive less spoiled) and we see and are told that food IS arriving but is being sent mostly to the palace (hello Criston cleaning your sword with a good lemon while the common people have to deal with spoiled food)
Why they riot in favor of Rhaenyra when she and her faction is the reason for the blockade and their hunger just because she gave some food?
Because starvation does not make you rational. Your royals that you grew up being told are closer to gods than men are warring with each other and you are collateral damage.
You are starving. There is the few fish you can get in the bay but is not enough for a whole city. The prices are skyrocketing because of scarcity and the dragons eat the sheep that you have
The royals didn’t give much of a shit before and now that they are at war they give even less of a shit now
Until the boats
For the starving, any food is worth it
Look how Rhaenyra is generous! Even in the middle of war she thinks of us! (Mysaria was really cunning here)
They throw fish guts at the dowager queen, the only part of the fish they can’t eat
Or maybe it’s a whole fish. Maybe the euphoria of having food finally made someone in the street careless enough to throw food away
After all, Rhaenyra is there to provide what is one single fish?
Why would the people think Meleys head is a bad omen when she killed hundreds of them?
If you see something as a god or god like thanks to years of the Targaryen “exceptionalism doctrine” being feed to you from birth as you live in their backyard, a dragon killing people is just an action of the gods. As the Stranger takes so does the dragons, it’s the natural order of things. People are born, it rains, the sun sets and rises at the same time every day and the giant fire made flesh creatures that fly over your city every day and eat your cows and sheep whole in one gulp have killed someone.
But to strip that creature of it’s divinity and to parede its head around…
You have to think about this as a religious or superstitious person. The head of god is being dragged down the street. This god that gives (the years were Meleys was a protector of the city as the dragon of Princess Alyssa and the years Rhaenys lived in Kingslanding) and takes (the dragon pit incident) is now revealed to be meat
Meat
Not divinity given flesh
Meat
You are hungry, the royal family feasts and their dragons are meat
The head of Meleys is a ill omen because it plants a seed.
You can’t do anything if your gods feast while you starve. They are gods.
But the Targaryens are no longer gods to the people of Kingslanding
The are meat
Just like the rest of them
