In case anybody wanted an update on the Too Big Jeans situation, I have completed the exchange and received the smaller pair! (Two sizes smaller. In petite instead of regular. So. Much. Smaller.) They fit nearly exactly how I expected the originals to, and just need to be broken in!

Also, fun fact, not-yet-broken-in-jeans make for an excellent seated posture aid. They are so stiff currently that I cannot slouch. I will not wear them in the car until they are less stiff.

Anyway, shout out to Big Bud Press for making great jeans and having excellent customer service. You'll probably have better luck with the size chart than me, a certified TARDIS of a person.

After Brody left I texted Alex, my best friend, filling her in on what happened. I can’t believe he was still pushing me for more.

Waiting for her text back I logged onto Instagram and saw a message from Tyler Posey himself. I was shocked and startled he found me from just my first name. We didn’t have any mutual friends that I knew of other than my dad.

I read the message: Hey, I met you on set today, I’m having a house party. Come through. Text me for the address.

I texted Alex the screenshot of his message and got nothing but an explosion of emojis. She was semi obsessed with Tyler Posey and Teen Wolf. I told her I’d get dressed and to pick me up in 20 minuets. A party sounded like the perfect way to forget Brody and probably the end of our friendship.

He was my best friend and we had crossed a line we couldn’t come back from.

I threw on some converse, jeans and a crop top with a cute bra peaking through. I pulled my hair out of the loose bun and made sure my mascara was perfect. I looked at myself in the mirror wondering if I was some kind of freak for not having sex yet before grabbing my clutch before heading outside.

Texting my dad so he wouldn’t worry I made sure to leave my location out. He wasn’t going to willingly let me party with a cast of actors my age.

Alex was beyond excited, “Is Tyler into you? Are you into him? Is he free game?”

I laughed knowing her obsession, “Alex, have him. He’s not my type. All serious, brooding, adventures. All yours.”

Alex laughed, “He isn’t the kind of guy to wait for sex either. He seems like a ladies man!”

We pulled up Tyler’s Hollywood house which was more modest than I thought. We rang the doorbell waiting outside when the oversized door flung open with Tyler holding a cold beer. “Come on in! Hey! Glad you could make it. Who’s your friend? I’m Tyler.”

Alex was a blonde bombshell so I wasn’t surprised he was checking her out. I introduced them to each other as we came inside and Tyler immediately showed us around.

“This is my place. Dyl and myself live here when we aren’t filming. Upstairs is off limits. Drinks are in the kitchen. The rest of the cast is here too.” He turned to Alex, “Can I make you a drink?”

He offered out his hand and she gladly followed, turning her head back at me in excitement. I followed along as the third wheel knowing beer was close by and I much needed one.

As I walked by the living room I noticed a giant fake Christmas tree and it was July. Close by the guy I bumped into was dancing with a beer in his hand. I figured he must have been part of the cast, he just looked MTV, yet I couldn’t help but smile at his happiness.

Tyler made both of our drinks with vodka, sliding it over to me and I slammed it back like I was a pro when really I wasn’t at all. I was a light weight on a mission to feel a buzz ASAP.

I let them flirt as I wondered around with another drink in my hand. I made my way past the people laughing and drinking down a hallway. They had art on the walls representing street art, tattoos and tribal work. I was surprised and inspired by the raw art.

Stumbling into a room that had the door cracked and wasn’t upstairs so that must of meant it wasn’t off limits. It was filled with awards, plaques and mile markers of their careers and lives. I saw a photo hanging of Tyler and the kid I ran into. He must be the room mate, Dylan.

I turned around and he was standing in the door way just watching me smiling. “Hey, you’re the girl I ran into. So what were you doing on set? Stalking Posey?”

My non-existent amusement was obvious, “So you live here too?”

He came inside the room and leaned against the desk, “I’m Dylan. You know Posey is talking to some blonde, right? You might wanna actually try flirting if you want his attention.”

I laughed knowing far too well he wasn’t my type, “Not interested in him. I have – had – it’s complicated and not really your business.”

He smirked, “You a fan of Teen Wolf?”

I walked out of the room down the hallway more, “Never seen it. Can you get me a refill? Thirsty.” He was trying very hard to gain any kind of information he could but it wasn’t working. He almost laughed, looked down and took my cup anyways.

He turned around reaching out, “Stay here. I’ll be back.” I was between another door way leaning against the frame as I nodded. “Use a heavier hand than your roommate.” I added as he walked away.

I was feeling buzzed and the drink he was getting me would be my 3rd. The room was empty, blank. I slide down the wall to sit on the floor when he came back with my empty cup and a bottle of Jack Daniels. “How’s this? I don’t know about you but I need a personal bartender tonight.”

I held up my cup silently as he poured and sat down too. I gave him a bone, “So Dylan, where’s your girlfriend or you a ladies man like your bestie?”

He signed and downed his drink, “Well we were in the middle of fucking and her phone went off-“ he paused unsure if he should say anymore. “It was whoever she’s been fucking behind my back.”

I felt awful for asking. “That’s never fun. Sorry dude.”

He leaned in pouring us more, “What’s complicated about your shit?”

Drinking my whole cup before going into it, “My best friend wanted to have sex and I didn’t. It’s complicated. We treated each other like a romantic relationship but it wasn’t.”

Dylan laughed, “So he was your friend with benefits?”

“Not exactly.” I stood up bored with the blank white walls, “You gonna give me the upstairs tour?” I was tipsy. I felt like I couldn’t stand straight up and he wasn’t any better as he got up.

“Hell yeah! Let’s go!” I followed him holding the bottle of whiskey as we snuck past the living room filled with the cast and their close friends. I didn’t see Alex in the crowd but the kitchen was out of view so I wasn’t worried. We went through a dark hallway past a bedroom with the door not closed all the way as Dylan peeked in and closed the door. He turned laughing, “Sorry. Ignore that.”

I only got a glimpse of the R-rated version of their own private party with a slender female riding someone I could only guess was Posey since the upstairs was off limits. Alex was the only blonde at the party I saw so I now knew where she went.

Dylan pushed open the door at the end of the hallway, “Welcome to my room.” I went inside immediately sitting on his bed taking my shoes off and as I took the room in I noticed the panties on the bed next to me. Looking down not moving I said, “Can you get rid of these? Kind of a bad juju.”

He noticed my vibe and lunged for the panties, “Shit! Sorry! Fuck.” He threw them away in his bathroom and sat down next to me offering me the bottle in which we beginning drinking out of now. His room was white, navy blue bedding, clean, some albums and what looked to be items from movie sets.

“You weren’t kidding about the almost sex…” I tried to fill the silence and that was the only thing I was thinking.

“Yeah, sorry. You want a pair of sweat pants? Get comfy.” I let my body lay back in some failed effort to feel less dizzy, “boxers sound better.”

He walked over to his draws and pulled out a black pair of boxer briefs and tossed them over to me. I stood up slowly as I unbuttoned my jeans and pushed them down my legs. Dylan didn’t take his eyes off me and I forgot how comfortable I was.

He coughed when my panties were revealed, “Um… I should leave the room… privacy.”

He didn’t attempted to move, stuttered and I simply laughed, “Why? It’s just panties… We’re adults, aren’t we?”

He left the door open some as I decided to stand on his bed, I had a sudden urge to jump so I did. The alcohol was setting in and I wasn’t sober enough to watch a movie. I undid my bra under my shirt and tossed it to the floor with my jeans. I kept jumping til he returned with pizza bites, hot pockets and chips. He wasn’t kidding when he had the munchies.

He laughed and jumped up on the bed after setting the food down. I stopped suddenly and laid down, “Too much jumping. I have class early tomorrow. Save me, I don’t wanna go.”

He laid down too, “Well, you’ll be too hung over for classes.”

I had never felt this comfortable, not even with Brody. With the help of alcohol I sat up and removed my shirt, “Do you wanna kiss me?” His mouth opened without any words. He leaned in kissing me gently with his hands on the side of my face. He felt warm, soft.

The rest was a blur. I lost some memories but I still couldn’t find the will to regret it.

I felt more myself with Dylan than I had with Brody, my own father, my friends and Dylan got the one part of me I had been toting around like a prize.

AAAAAAAA. I wanted this to be canon so bad but as I said— I couldn't come with a gender neutral name similar to Romeo. And if I decided to add this flavour text for any mc named using the letter R it would end up not making sense so I gave up on that idea.

Stella is the fusion between my WIR Next Gen fanchild Steep, and Nintendoneko's Next Gen OC Clara.

For information on Steep, he is a main character in my upcoming Next Generation fanfiction. Steep, to put it simply, is King Candy revived as a younger character. If you want to know how, click here. To sum up his character though, he is the opposite of his past life, being a lot nicer and more selfless. Although, Steep still does struggle with attention issues... He also has a glitch called a "defect", which can also be explained in the above link.

As for Clara, she is the child of @nintendoneko64 's OCs Neko and Dylan. Personality wise, Clara is a curious, sweet, sometimes nervous, but adventurous girl! She also has some of her mom's dimension hopping abilities (Ask @nintendoneko64 about this for an explanation, if necessary)

Together as a fusion, the two of them enjoy each other's pleasant company. Nothing in their characters contradict or strongly affect each other, so their fusion is very stable.

Appearance wise, Stella has the features of a Persian cat. Their cat ears, tail, and paws are an off white color, and their long, unsymmetrical mane is a natural light brown. Their eyes are a hazel that has a combination of pale green and brown in their retinas. They also have a cute, round nose- which isn't too big! Both of the fusion's hands have four fingers.

As for clothing, Stella wears a teabag earring- with oolong tea leaves, that dangles off their right ear. She has a thick, pearl necklace along her collar bone that goes over her periwinkle button up shirt. As for their pants, they are a pair of upcycled jeans that are patched together with fragments of Steep's parachute pants.

"Let's think it from a different perspective. Assuming you'll see him 3 to 4 days per week. Which is quite good, right?"

"Then, as long as you can see him that often, why do you care about what he does in the other days?"

"You have a point. But it still bothers me."

"You want him to be exclusive to you, which is totally normal. You're doing the same with me as well. Maybe you're just being possessive with your relationships."

"Didn't like the bad undertone but maybe you're right."

"Sorry babe, I didn't mean anything bad."

"I know. But I think it still requires a proper punishment."

"Sounds like you're just looking to let off some steam."

... I did my research, and thank god there were no nail technician courses that I can attend nearby. I found three courses actually, but two of them were starting in the autumn, so I wasn't able to attend. And I called the third one for getting information, and they informed me that it's women-only course. I was lucky. So lucky.

I prepared an email to Ellie to show that I did my research but no avail. I was trying to show her that I did whatever I can to find something, so that I might impress her and get rewarded with a release.

But, soon after I sent my email, I got a message saying that I should be looking for the courses in the autumn then. I could only say "will do!" with a heart emoji. And got a kiss emoji back.

... I started hitting the gym and I was pushing myself hard. I had my worst muscle pain the next day, which kept aching even the day after. But thankfully it was keeping my mind busy with the pain and I wasn't thinking about Ellie all the time. She went to a house party with her friends -including Dylan too obviously- and spent the night in there.

So, there were more than 10 people, which Ellie knew most of them but not all. There were two more couples except Ellie and Dylan, and they were at one of the couple's flat. Ellie laughed hard when telling me about how one of the single guys tried to flirt with a girl all throughout the night, and how everyone else encouraged them and in the end they went to the spare bedroom together. Then I listened how they spent the whole night like a couple with Dylan and ended up having sex on the couch. Then how they got caught naked in the morning when people woke up before them, and they covered themselves with a blanket while their friends were teasing them. And then how the lucky guy from the previous night had pulled the blanket and exposed Ellie, how Dylan snapped at him and how much she liked being defended by Dylan. I asked her didn't she got annoyed when that guy exposed her naked, but she told me that it was just a friendly banter and just for a couple seconds, and then she teased him by saying he owes Ellie a nude, which annoyed Dylan even more and in turn made Ellie even happier. Also to my suprise, they all made a plan to rent a holiday home with a pool the next weekend. They were planning to rent the place for 3 nights, and have proper party all together. So, when we had a chance to speak on the phone the next day, she was still cheerful. And I was lying there with sore muscles, and a pulsing cock.

Independent publishers dominate Swansea shortlist

The shortlist for the world’s largest and most prestigious literary prize for young writers – the Swansea University Dylan Thomas Prize – has been revealed, featuring six emerging voices whose writing plays with formal inventiveness to explore the timeless themes of grief, identity and family.

Comprising of four novels, one short story collection and one poetry collection – with five titles belonging to independent publishers – this year’s international shortlist is:

A Spell of Good Things by Ayòbámi Adébáyò (Canongate Books) – novel (Nigeria)

Small Worlds by Caleb Azumah Nelson (Viking, Penguin Random House UK) – novel (UK/Ghana)

The Glutton by AK Blakemore (Granta) – novel (England, UK)

Bright Fear by Mary Jean Chan (Faber & Faber) – poetry collection (Hong Kong)

Local Fires by Joshua Jones (Parthian Books) – short story collection (Wales, UK)

Biography of X by Catherine Lacey (Granta) – novel (US) 

Worth £20,000, this global accolade recognizes exceptional literary talent aged 39 or under, celebrating the international world of fiction in all its forms including poetry, novels, short stories and drama. The prize is named after the Swansea-born writer Dylan Thomas and celebrates his 39 years of creativity and productivity. The prize invokes his memory to support the writers of today, nurture the talents of tomorrow, and celebrate international literary excellence.

Namita Gokhale, chair of Judges, said: “The Swansea University Dylan Thomas Prize has an important role to play in recognizing, supporting and nurturing young writers across a rich diversity of locations and genres. The 2024 shortlist has authors from the United States, United Kingdom, Hong Kong, Nigeria and Ghana, and it has been a truly rewarding adventure to immersively read through this creative spectrum of voices.”

The only debut on this year’s shortlist is the astonishing new Welsh talent Joshua Jones, who is in the running for his highly acclaimed short story collection Local Fires – a stunning series of multifaceted stories inspired by real people and real events that took place in his hometown of Llanelli, South Wales.

The sole poet in contention this year is Mary Jean Chan – who was previously shortlisted for the Prize with their debut Fleche in 2020 – and is now recognized for the collection Bright Fear, which fearlessly explores themes of identity, multilingualism and postcolonial legacy.

Three of the four novelists have also gained their second nomination for the Swansea University Dylan Thomas Prize: British-Ghanaian author Caleb Azumah Nelson is in contention for his second novel, Small Worlds, in which he travels from South London to Ghana and back again over the course of three summers to tell an intimate father-son story exploring the worlds we build for ourselves; Nigerian novelist Ayòbámi Adébáyò is shortlisted for her dazzling story of modern Nigeria, A Spell of Good Things, and two families caught in the riptides of wealth, power, romantic obsession and political corruption; and US author Catherine Lacey is celebrated for the genre-bending Biography of X, a roaring epic and ambitious novel chronicling the life, times and secrets of a notorious artist.

Completing the shortlist is British novelist AK Blakemore, recognized for her darkly exuberant novel The Glutton, which – set to the backdrop of Revolutionary France – is based on the true story of a peasant turned freakshow attraction.

The 2024 shortlist was selected by a judging panel chaired by writer and co-director of the Jaipur Literature Festival, Namita Gokhale, alongside author and lecturer in Creative Writing at Swansea University, Jon Gower, winner of the Rooney Prize for Irish Literature in 2022 and Assistant Professor at Trinity College Dublin, Seán Hewitt, former BBC Gulf Correspondent and author of Telling Tales: An Oral History of Dubai, Julia Wheeler, and interdisciplinary artist and author of Keeping the House, Tice Cin.

The winner of the Swansea University Dylan Thomas Prize 2024 will be revealed at a ceremony held in Swansea on 16 May, following International Dylan Thomas Day on 14 May.

Previous winners include Arinze Ifeakandu, Patricia Lockwood, Max Porter, Raven Leilani, Bryan Washington, Guy Gunaratne, and Kayo Chingonyi.

Art Ain’t A Mirror, It’s A Hammer (Part 1 of 3)

“The times, they are a’changin” Dylan sang, and in the few weeks that passed between my jotting down this idea for a blog post and actually getting around to writing it, the creative world changed again and again and again…

But before we delve into that, let’s look at this quote by our old pal, Bertolt Brecht:

“Art is not a mirror held up to reality but a hammer with which to shape it.”

Get it?  Got it?  Good.

Now we’re going to throw in some miniskirts to the mix, add a little Samuel Beckett for good measure, then top it off with a nice Rick Beato finish.

Bear with me…

Brecht’s point was that art doesn’t reflect reality, it helps shape it by conveying ideas from the artist to the audience, ideas meant to console / challenge / desensitize / provoke / disturb / placate them and in doing so, help shape the choices and actions they make going forward.

Art is filled with unintended consequences, and typically low art / pop culture wields a far greater impact than high art / culture.

Case in point:  Who did more to channel outrage against fascism, Pablo Picasso with Guernica or Jack Kirby & Joe Simon with Captain America?

Take all the time you need answering that.

Now let’s look at one of the most important artists of the 20th century:  Mary Quant.

Many of you (especially those with XY chromosomes) are going “Who?” while those who do recognize the name don’t recognize how much she helped changed the world.

Ms Quant invented the miniskirt in 1963 -- and that three square feet of fabric contributed mightily to the youthquake and subsequent cultural and political upheavals felt around the planet.

She owned a boutique in London for the fashion conscious yet on a budget young set. And while skirts had crept up to knee length by the late 50s / early 60s, Quant said “Wot the hell, luv, right?” or words to that effect and jumped several generations of fashion evolution.

The effect proved electrifying in ways intended and unintended.

The intended way meant fashion conscious young women could inexpensively look tres chic while still being able to afford rent and food.  Most young men approved of the fashion and encouraged the young ladies (or “birds” as they were called in London back in the day) to follow the trend.

It meant the style got plenty of play in the press and on television, which bolstered popularity and sales.

Unintended effects?  A mighty pushback against the trend, with young women being arrested in many instances and the garment outright banned in more than a few locales such as the Vatican and the Deep South, being denounced from pulpits and podiums alike.

The real unintended effect?

While the miniskirt began life as a typical “Hey!  Look at me!” fashion trend, it soon morphed into something entirely different.

It was -- in the overused terminology of the times -- a liberating experience for the wearers, not just allowing more physical freedom of movement but also signaling to others in their tribe that they were young, free spirited, adventurous, and full of new ideas (yeah, I know the kneeslapper is that every new generation considers going back to the Pleistocene considers themselves to be “free spirited, adventurous, and full of new ideas”).

And while not every young women adopted it, the miniskirt sure became a cultural identifier for all young women, even those who felt it exploited them.

By wearing it openly in defiance of conventional fashion, it helped encourage women as a whole to be more openly defiant in other areas as well.

No, the miniskirt didn’t spawn the feminist movement, but it sure didn’t hinder it, either.

And paradoxically, it helped young women feel free enough to make other fashion choices.  Sure, slacks had been acceptable for women in certain informal occasions since the 1930s, and late 1940s teen girls pioneered wearing blue jeans outside of the farm, but if the miniskirt was the primary female fashion statement of the 1960s, jeans & T-shirts weren’t far behind and grannie dresses pushed a respectable third.

Indeed, jeans & Ts became practically unisex ubiquitous during the 1970s and to this day are considered normal wear for people of all genders.

To say the miniskirt made all these societal changes possible would be a gross overstatement.

But it sure made them easier.

Did Mary Quant intend that?

No.

All she wanted was to create a bright bit of fashion that felt fun to wear.

Her customers brought the meaning to her art.

I keep running into a problem that I'm wondering if anybody else has. When I'm buying pants (especially jeans), if I go by my measurements on the size charts, everything always winds up being far too big. The size that fits is always labeled as around 10" too small for my actual measurements. For example, I ordered some non-stretch jeans, and got a 4XL based on my measurements and the size chart. They showed up today, and I didn't even need to undo the zipper to get them on and off! So I'm exchanging them for a 2XL instead, which the size chart says is way too small for me. Does anyone else have this problem, or am I just a TARDIS of a person?

"Can I do anything that would make it better?"

The journey to Cairo had many difficulties, you all knew that.

Hell, most of you and your group had experienced it, for fuck's sake. It got tiring after a while. Today was yet another tiring trial, fighting off some other person hellbent on bringing ruin and destruction to the group. But in the end, they lost, and your group managed to make its merry way to the hotel destination.

Swinging the room key merrily in your hand, you arrived at your hotel room. Polnareff and Kakyoin passed you and you waved at them. "Have a good night, you guys."

Kakyoin called back a similar sentiment but Polnareff barely even glanced over. Concerned, your eyes followed him as you took in his tense figure. This fight had particularly affect Polnareff, the enemy Stand user taunting the French about his deceased sister. But when you asked about it earlier, he had reassured you that he was alright.

Polnareff's door closing prompted you to focus on your own as you opened your own. The sight of a bed made you sigh in relief. You were incredibly relieved to be able to sleep in a bed tonight, not sure if you'd be able to handle a night camping out after this

Pushing your worries about Polnareff to the back of your mind, you dumped your bags onto the chair and table in the corner. Right now, the shower was calling your name. And after that, a one-night stand with the silken sheets of this hotel room's bed.

'2:47am'

That was the time right now.

The tail end of a sound had woken you up. Blinking blearily into the darkness of your room, you strained your ears to try to catch any more sounds.

Nothing

Grumbling, you rolled over and buried your face into the pillows. It must have been some poor unfortunate sod who arrived late to their room. Either that or someone drunk out of their mind.

It occurred again and you opened your eyes wide, sleep drawing its grasping tendrils away from your mind. The pattern of the knock was a specific one developed by the group, followed by an extra add-on that you knew was specifically meant to be between Polnareff and you.

Rolling out of bed you padded over to the door and pulled in open. “Polnareff?”

Indeed it was him on the other side. You concern skyrocketed as you saw the state of disarray he was in, hair down and messy and eyes red-rimmed from tears. He didn’t say a word but the beseeching look he gave you spoke volumes. You pulled your door open wider and stepped aside to invite him in and wordlessly he did.

Polnareff made a beeline for your bed as you checked the hallway and closed it. He was curled up under your covers by the time you reached the bed and you gently urged him to move. “Alright Pol, I know that’s confortable right now but I promise I have a better alternative.”

Getting into the bed yourself, you maneuvered both you and Polnareff so that you laid on your back with him resting his head on your chest. At the new position, the male seemed to relax just the slightest bit, letting out a sigh and turning to bury his fave into your nightshirt. “Thank you, my dear,” He said.

Threading your fingers through his hair, you said “Of course. Anything else I can do that would make it better?”

Polnareff tightened his arms around you. “Just stay with me?”

You simply hugged him tighter. “Of course.”

Batgirl Vol. 1 #1-11, #13-25

The first half of the Kelly Puckett/Damion Scott run. If you're wondering why #12 isn't mentioned, it's a crossover issue for Officer Down (basically Jim Gordon is shot, and the aftermath is him stepping down as Commish). It's totally up to you completist wise if you want to go into that story.

For key portions, #7 is Shiva/Cass meeting for the first time, #11 is a spotlight on David Cain, #18 & #20 are her first actual team-ups with Tim & Stephanie, Not her first meetings (she first met Tim in #120, and Stephanie in Robin #88).

During #24 we have another crossover, this event being Bruce Wayne: Murderer? This leads into the next crossover which hits in #27 & #29 Bruce Wayne: Fugitive. Bruce is the main suspect of a murder leading the Bat Family to investigate it. It is optional BUT--

The primary antagonist of the crossover has a critical role in Cassandra's life. So if you want-- Batman #605 (reveal of the antagonist of Bruce Wayne: Murderer?/Fugitive) Batman #606-607 (aftermath to the reveal) Cassandra only appears in #605 and has a two-panel cameo in #607.

Batgirl Vol. 1 #26-37

The second half of the Puckett/Scott run. Again, #27 & 29 are x-overs. #30-32 is an arc drawn by Scott but written by Chuck Dixon. #33-37 is the closeout of the run.

For issues going on while this run, there were four specials published that featured Cass.

DC First- Batgirl/Joker #1 (Cassandra fights the Joker.)

Batgirl Annual #1 (one linear story of Cass/Bruce on an adventure)

Batgirl: Secret Files & Origins #1.

Batgirl/Ghost: The Resurrection Machine #1-4.

It's up to you if you want to read the last one. It's Cass's only crossover comic, But yeah.. I’m not particularly fond of the story.

#38 features Stephanie exiting the supporting cast and features the first Batgirl issue by Andersen Gabrych.

Superboy #85 is where you need to read next. It has Cass teaming up with Conner Kent/Superboy. This issue helps leading into----

Batgirl Vol. 1 #39-57

Dylan Horrocks’ run.. #39-42 deals with Superboy and a villain called Black Wind (#39-40). Black Wind shows up again in #43-44 with Cass also tangling with an OLD Batman villain Dr. Death.

#45 is when Rich Leonardi arrives as artist for the comic. This is also the same issue Cass dons Babs' Batgirl costume. #46-49 continues the build-up of tension Cass has with Bruce (starting in #39) which leads to #50 Cass vs. Bruce! Horrocks/Leonardi's crown jewel of their run.

#51-52 Cass takes on Poison Ivy. #53 Stephanie returns to the comic as Robin. #54 sadly is when Barbara exits the title as a supporting character. #55-57 is War Games x-over resulting in Stephanie being killed off, and Barbara leaving Gotham, gutting Cassandra's supporting cast.

During this near the middle of this run, another maxi-series is published by DC that features Cass:

Justice League Elite #1-12

- Kasumi (Cass in disguise and spying for Batman). If you're looking for Cass tangling with threats beyond her usual street fare than by all means.

Nightwing #81

- features Cassandra's first encounter with Deathstroke the Terminator. A gorgeous choreographed fight by Devin Grayson and art by Rich Leonardi.

Detective Comics #790 - a War Games prelude with Cass helping Bruce on a mission while both reflecting on Stephanie Brown who is at a crossroads.

- the Fresh Blood story which features Cass teaming up with Tim both reeling from the fallout of War Games crossover event and their new status quos.

- #58 is the start of Andersen Gabrych's run on the comic.

-  An epilogue to this story occurs in Batman Allies: Secrets & Origins #1 in a tale (written by Gabrych).

Batgirl Vol. 1 #58-73

#60-62 is Cassandra's new status quo. Ale Garza/Pop Mhan provide art for most of Gabrych's run (save one issue). These three issues have Cass tangle with the Brotherhood of Evil and a "ghostly" Stephanie continues to shows up too!

#63-64 is Cass having a rematch with Deathstroke who brings Ravager along for the ride. This is basically Gabrych tying up a subplot introduced in Teen Titans comics happening at the same time period (i.e. Rose posing as Cass), but you don't really need to read that to understand the why. So I’m not going to give the issue # to that.

#65-73 is the Destructions' Daughter arc. Everyone who has history with Cass shows up in this arc. Bruce, David Cain, Babs, Black Canary, a few villains of her past (Shrike and Alpha), and of course Lady Shiva in #68.

It's here Gabrych has to juggle a lot of tie-ins. Infinite Crisis was looming on the horizon and Cassandra was dealing with parts since the beginning of her run. #66, and #69-70 are considered the "lowest" points of the run and the Vol. 1 series.

#71-73 is when the action ramps up again with Gabrych having to speed his way to the ongoing's conclusion in #73.

I know I left out appearances (Supergirl, Batman/Superman, Harley Quinn, Young Justice, Birds of Prey, Robin, and Gotham Knights). Also a mini (Batman: City of Lights). But they're just sprinkles. Added goodies to the toppings that is this entire run.  Okay, save the last one and maybe Batman/Superman... You will see them on other lists I have for Cass (mostly part 3 and 5).

 DC Festival of Heroes: The Asian Superhero Celebration #1

- contains TWO stories centered on Cassandra. Along with this neat variant cover by Artgerm.  "Sounds" literally feels like a story during or just after the Puckett/Scott run (#37) written by Mariko Tamaki and drawn by Marcus To.  

"What's in the Box?" is the other story that features Cassandra written/drawn by Dustin Nguyen. Though shorter than the prior one it is still a gorgeously drawn story. Not mentioned, but alluded based on the art/timeline Cass is in her Black Bat attire. So you can place this story after Gates of Gotham in the old canon.

Batman: Urban Legends #7 (Hunter or Hunted...)

-  The story/art by Guillaume Singelin provides a truly UNIQUE tale starring Cass.  The action is top-notch, we're given probably the best fight sequence from start to finish involving the character in a LONG TIME. The story is a literal  feast for the eyes.

Batman: Wayne Family Adventures Episodes 32-33 "All Seeing"

- The second major arc that focuses on Cass showcases the many qualities of the character on why there are so many passionate fans of hers. A good starter or introduction for new readers on the character.

 - The third major story arc focuses on Cass's comic origin while also giving us a team-up gone awry between her and Damian Wayne. Gives new readers a further understanding of Cass building upon Episodes 32-33.

Shadow of the Batgirl

- a Young Adults graphic novel written by Sarah Kuhn and drawn by Nicole Goux. Kuhn gives Cassandra a modern origin taking elements from Puckett and James Tynion IV/Scott Snyder’s Batman & Robin Eternal origin to give us something newly unique on it’s own.

A highly recommended story!

Batgirls #14

- The best issue of the Batgirls ongoing series. Artist Jonathan Case pulls off a masterclass of art, inking, and coloring in this special “silent” issue. There’s no need to read any prior issues. You can go in without reading the prior two arcs (Batgirls #9-12, 2022 Annual, and #13), but it adds to the payoff of this issue.

Yes, writers Michael Conrad and Becky Cloonan cheat in the format, but the way they sneak the dialogue in is absolutely perfect. After years of being denied the special format, Cass gets it and showcases WHY the character just works so well.
