I sat down at the shore. I looked around but saw no one. Most of the people were at the camp, enjoying their freedom. I could spot some of the gladers. They were laughing and talking, enjoying their time too.

I looked back down and felt a tear slip down my cheek.

I wanted to be with them. I wanted to be happy, to laugh, to enjoy our freedom.

But I couldn't...

I couldn't, because he wasn't here. Because Newt wasn't here with me to enjoy it.

I looked at the capsule and mindlessly twisted it around in my hands, while eyeing the sea.

Suddenly, I heard a plop and the capsule opened, revealing a rolled up letter.

My eyebrows furrowed, while I pulled the sheets of paper out and slowly unrolled them.

"No way..", I mumbled and carefully stroke the Letters of my name on the paper.

Eagerly, I started reading.

Dear Y/N,

This is the first letter I can remember writing. Obviously, I don't know if I wrote any before the Maze. But even if it's not my first, it's likely to be my last.

I put a hand over my mouth, trying to process, that these words were actually written by Newt, knowing that he was about to die.

I want you to know that I'm not scared. Well, not of dying, anyway. It's more forgetting. It's losing myself to the virus,thats what scares me.

I clutched the letter tighter, as I rememberd Newt's last moments before his death. His dark eyes not showing any sign of the sweet British boy, I fell in love with.

So, every night I've been saying their names out loud.

Alby, Winston, Chuck.

And I repeat them over and over like a prayer and it all comes flooding back.

Just the little things like when the sun used to hit the glade at that perfect moment right before it slipped beneath the walls.

And I remember the taste of Frypan's stew. I never thought, I'd miss that stuff so much.

And I remember you..

"Oh God, Newt", I mumbled and looked up for a minute, trying to contain my tears. Of course, he had to write something cheesy. He's always been cheesy.

A chuckle left my lips, as I remembered how often he used to tease me back at the Glade.

I remember the first time you came up in the box. Just a scared little greenie who couldn't even remember her own name. And the first girl we ever saw at the glade.

I remember looking at you for the first time. You looked so peaceful, laying there inside of the cage, but the you woke up and I remember, that you slapped me in the face and slipped past the boys, immediately heading for the Maze entry.

I believe, we've never had another greenie, as crazy as you were.

A smile was plastered over my face, as I remembered the day we met. It seemed so long ago, now that we were here.

"It's a girl"

I heard various whispers and murmurs of people who presumably seemed very interested about my arrival. I had no idea, where I was nor who I even was. I didn't even know my name.

I didn't know these people, so my first instinct was to run.

So, I ran. I got up as fast as possible. I pushed away the boy, that was standing next to me.

"Woah!!" he yelled, but I was already out. I pushed past all the boys and immediately started running. I looked around and noticed the huge door, which also seemed to be the only one around this... I don't know, Glade?

So, I headed for it. I ran faster, as I heard the boys chasing me,yelling for me to stop.

"Stop!!! GREENIE, STOP!!"

I wanted to. My legs screamed for me to stop, but I couldn't. I just couldn't.

I should be careful with my wishes, because the next thing I knew, that a pair of feet collided with my rips and I toppled over hitting my head on the ground.

I groaned, trying to make the world stop spinning. I looked up and saw a boy with a buzz cut and tank top looking at me. He had stopped me a few meters in front of the entrance.

"What the hell-", I murmured, as I touched my head. I felt a warm liquid running down my temple.

"Rules, Greenie. Never leave the Glade", the boy in front of me said. He had a smug grin on his face, as the other boys finally arrived.

"Bloody hell, Gally! What did you do to her!?", the boy, I pushed away in the box came running towards me. He leaned down and held out his hand for me:"Are you alright, love?"

I nodded and grabbed his hand, letting him pull me to my feet.

I stumbled a little bit, until my eyes finally focused again and I could stand by myself.

"What an entrance", Another boy smiled. He walked over to me and also held out his hand for me, "I'm Alby. Welcome to the Glade"

I shook his hand while furrowing my brows:"The Glade?"

"You'll learn about this later. For now, Newt here," He pointed at the other boy, "Will bring you to the medjacks to take care of your laceration"

I only nodded, not questioning any further. My head was pounding like hell and all I wanted now, was to rest.

"To be honest", Newt mumbled and grabbed my hand pulling me away from the crowd, "When I saw you running away like that, I thought you'd have the spirit to be a runner"

I smiled at him, not exactly knowing what he was talking about.

"And then Gally kicked you away", he chuckled.

"Oh yeah, he's a great guy", I mumbled.

I felt Newt nudge my shoulder:"He probably saved your life"

"Why, what is out there?", I asked.

Newt hesitated:"We call it the Maze"

Remembering the days at the Glade, was like reading a book. Like, I was just an observer. It seemed so long ago.

But Y/N, from the moment I saw you running, I knew I'd follow you. The braveness you had, running into the Maze without even knowing what it was, it inspired me. It inspired all of us.

It is, what made me fall in love with you. But not only your braveness. It was your loyalty, your beauty, your pure heart and the love you had not only for me, but for all of us.

Before you came, life at the Glade seemed miserable, the same and the same and the same routine over and over again every day.

But when you came, everything changed.

I felt fresh tears running down my cheeks. I rememberd everything. Everything we've been trough together, since that day we met, so long ago. Every little moment, every little tease, every joke, every kiss...

Suddenly, It was all in my head again. All the times I spend with Newt, I just felt...

Loved.

If I could do it all over again, I would. And I wouldn't change a thing.

My hope is for you when you're looking back, years from now, you'll be able to say the same.

The future is in you're hands now, Y/N. And I know that You, Tommy, Minho and Frypan will find a way to do what's right. You always have.

Take care of everyone for me. What am I saying, you have always taken care of us boys. But also take care of yourself. You deserve to be happy.

Newt.

I closed my eyes, processing everything that I just read. My ears rang and I felt like Gally had kicked me to the ground again.

Finally, I opened my eyes and looked at the waves crashing against the shore.

"I will find a way, Newt", I mumbled to myself.

"And I will always take care of the boys", I added while shoving the letter back into the capsule. I eyed it for a second, before grabbing the ribbon and putting it around my neck. That way, I would always have Newt with me, no matter what.

"Hey, Y/N. Are you coming?" I heard the voice of Thomas, who jogged over to me.

He stopped in front of me, but when his eyes met mine, his face sunk immediately.

"Are you alright?", he asked and put a hand on my shoulder.

I nodded:"Yeah, I'm alright"

I looked over at the shore, trying to avoid his gaze. Thomas slowly nodded before he pulled me into a much needed embrace.

"Come on", he finally said and grabbed my hand, "It's time"

He lead me back to the others. I quickly gretted Minho and Frypan, before we all made our way over to the huge Rock, where all the names of the Fallen were going to be engraved.

I looked it up and down, reading all the names.

"Here", Thomas smiled and handed me a knife.

I took it and turned around. I carefully started to carve out his name, letter by letter.

A few minutes later, Newts name was to be seen big and vibrant in the middle of the Rock.

A smile crept onto my face.

"We made it", I mumbled.

I felt Thomas nudge my shoulder:"We did"

"And we did pretty good", Minho added and patted my shoulder.

"Hey guys, who wants some stew!?", Frypan yelled.

I smiled to myself, before looking at Thomas and Minho. All three of us were Runners back at the Glade.

"Three..",I mumbled.

"Two..",Minho said.

"One!!", Thomas yelled and we started sprinting like a Grievar was chasing us. And I finally allowed myself to laugh, to have fun, to enjoy the freedom.

And all wouldn't have been possible, without one person.

Newt, I'll never forget you.
