Simplicity

This week I chose to try and keep it simple, as I was still lengths away from having a good understanding of my camera. I focused on taking simple shots, and making minor adjustments to learn a little bit more about the way my camera works. Something that was always slightly troubling for me was the fact that we were not permitted to use flash. This always made taking picture, for anything, a bit challenging. As I had to plan a lot of my time around shooting pictures when there was proper lighting. 

It was interesting to notice how much a difference smalls changes can make, things like natural light, time of day, location, and many others factors all have a crucial effect on how one’s pictures will come out. An artist whos work I looked at was Dylan Kasson. Dylan is considered a street artists, he will photograph anything, but often the beauty can be found in the simplicity of his shots. Which is something that I can appreciate.

Another photographer’s work I admire is Dylan Kasson these images are from his series called ‘Spate’. Kasson’s work from this series is very colourful and geometric, again similar to Jacob Greene his work has a very unrealistic touch to it which I quite like especially the image with the ladder. Even though the other images aren’t as full of colour from the series as these two are they still have a really unrealistic almost too perfect feel to them, which I guess in a way it makes you wonder if any of these images are actually real.

Dylon Kasson Photographer Relative to My Practice

In an Extended Practice class we have been asked to look for a photographer that relates to our practice.  Dylan Kasson is a photographer I can really inspire to, he has a varied style throughout his different collections however it is still clear that his main genre is street and architectural which is the photography that excites me.

Street Photography Research - Dylan Kasson

I really like these images as they are (again) very clean well structured images that do not reflect on street photography ‘norm’.

I feel some of Kasson’s images look a little more like structure architectural shots but feel this style works in his favour as it’s making something so simplistic look interesting.
