Every show dies twice. Once when it’s cancelled, the other when its most devoted fans change their icon. 😭😭😭 RIP Fringe!

I honestly didn't know how to handle this message.

Should I ignore it? Delete it? Reply sarcastically? But then I thought, you know what, I'm gonna put on my Olivia's-profile-from-Ability face one last time to answer this message, and remember that once upon a time, this tiny fandom for our Little Show That Could and its fringies were very kind to me. The kindest, really.

I'm sorry that me moving on is saddening you. I'm sorry that you're seeing this, me changing my icon, as me causing Fringe 'to die' again. Now I'm gonna be a bit dramatic (because c'mon, have you met me?), and a bit frank about it, too. I'm going to tell you that Fringe didn't die when 5x13 aired; its fandom did. I watched it die in the upcoming months. I'm reluctant to say it took years, because sadly, that fandom death was depressingly quick. And me being, as you noted, one of its most devoted fans, I held on to it. I did not want to let it go.

One year later, two years later, three years later, still reblogging every angle of Olivia's face, Peter's hand on Olivia's face, or Walter's jokes about car seats that warm your ass. Five years later, I was still writing stories, still sharing them in the void, even when I only had about four readers left by then. At some point I stopped, like everybody else, because there's only so much holding on one can manage when there's nothing left to hold on to. Fandom is community. And community requires...communication.

Like most of us, fandom is a way for me to cope with (and often ignore) my real life problems. Pandemic aside, these past few months have been extremely hard for me on a personal level. I need the love and support of a community right now. I need the exchange. I need the dialogue and the rapport. And I found one. It took me nearly 18 months to burrow my way into a little niche of the DW fandom - or rather, I spammed angst, fluff and smut their way until they couldn't ignore me anymore, and to be honest, I'm embracing it all, because I've missed feeling like I'm part of something.

So yes. I changed my icon.

Now, because you know I can't possibly leave it like that without being a bit sappy by putting a crack in the darkness and letting the light in, or by looking up for a rainbow after it rains, or by finding that one dandelion growing out of scorched earth, I will ask you this: is Fringe really dead, though? Will Fringe ever be dead? The fandom might be, but that's another thing altogether.

I don't know about you, but Fringe changed my life. It changed who I am as a person. It shaped me. It doesn't matter, which OTP I have twirling on my blog these days. It doesn't mean I've forgotten these characters that I've loved for ten years, or their relationships, or what they mean to me.

I'll conclude with a quote from a wise man (known as Joel Wyman, a few of you might remember that cool dude): "What I really want is, the next day after viewing the finale, for fans to be able to get in their car and say 'I could imagine I know where these people I love are. They are just a universe away.'"

Fave two eps from each season?

Season 1 - Theatricality, for sure. Love the Gaga, love the costumes, love the Kurt storyline, love that Tina actually has a plot. Aaand I think I’m gonna say Preggers actually. I love Kurt coming out to his father, and it gets me emotional every time. Also that episode is the least musical episode of the entire show. Yes, we hear Sing Ladies over and over, but that’s just dancing. Tina sings part of Tonight, and Rachel sings like thirty seconds of a song, but there’s no full length song in the ep and I think that’s cool and different and something we never saw again. Honorable mentions: Power of Madonna, Home, Wheels

Season 2 - Surprisingly enough, I’m not gonna pick either of the two huge Klaine eps because everything else in those episodes is just... not it. I’m actually gonna go with Prom Queen and New York. Prom Queen has all kinds of good stuff I love. Klaine, Samchel, Samcedes, Santana, Faberry, I even like Brittany this ep. It’s got some important moments, some drama, emotions, but is still fun and just a great ep over all. And I always say the competition episodes are nothing special but I like a surprising amount of them lol. New York is just fun and bright, we get to see NY through the eyes of the characters for the first time. We get Wicked, a Sunshine solo, My Cup. We get Quinn drama, the first Klaine “I love you”, the first hint at Samcedes, and again, I even like Brittany in this episode. Hers and Santana’s scene in this one was spectacular. Just a good fun ep all around. Honorable mentions: Blame it on the Alcohol, Sexy, Original Song 

Season 3 - Extraordinary Merry Christmas and Dance With Somebody. The black and white Christmas special is legendary, and Brittany’s Christmas Wrapping cover is perfect. But all the songs are great and the humor is just wonderful. Plus lots of Klaine, yay! DWS also has great songs, and lots of good Klaine drama. Also hello, Pezberry?? What else do you need? Honorable mentions: Heart, ...that’s it 

Season 4 - I think s4 has some very high points and veryyy low points for me, but I’m gonna go with... The Break Up and I Do. TBU for juicy drama, good music, and totally shaking up the status quo. It’s grown on me the most and I appreciate it more now than I did back in the day. And I Do just because it’s fun and kinda crazy without being over the top cracky. Klaine makes out and sings a duet, Quinntana hooks up, we get a song from Company (one of my fave musicals). Plus I think the eps are total opposites in terms of like depressing break ups to fun hookups. It’s a good duality. Honorable mentions: Swan Song, Diva

Season 5 - I looove all of season five. It’s the cream of the crop for me. But the cream of the cream for me isss New New York aaand Tested. It’s just good drama and a lot of great moments with most of my favorite characters. Those few precious episodes exclusively in NY were just amazing. Wish we had more of that. Honorable mentions: every other episode except probably 5x11-5x13 

Season 6 - Homecoming and. Actually jk just that one. I rewatched it recently and it was wonderful. The songs are basically perfect, I love meeting the newest newbies, it’s got some good humor, and we haven’t yet reached full levels of absurd crack so yay. If I had to pick a second... Transitioning. I guess. Honorable mentions: none
