Bardugo’s spin on classic fairytales are a delight as always.
“The Language of Thorns” includes six short stories that are inspired by myth, folklore, and fairytales. Each are paired with stunning illustrations that really give it a storybook feel.
In her author’s note, she shares that she was inspired to write this collection by “the note of trouble that I think many of us hear in familiar tales, because we know—even as children—that impossible tasks are on odd way to choose a spouse, that predators come in many guises, that a prince’s whims are often cruel.” She takes bits and pieces from old tales and reshapes them with her dark, gripping, and masterful writing to make us, as readers, question the classics we grew up with. New morals are attributed to each story and I was blown away when I was left to ruminate on them every. Single. Time.
You do not have to read any of the Grishaverse books to pick this one up, which makes it perfect for new readers hoping to be introduced to Bardugo’s works and fans, like myself, who keep coming back for more!

Ok so we don't have enough room in our kitchen for all our kitchen stuff.
Logically (unless we move house) we need to have less stuff because it is not possible to make the kitchen larger. It's also a bad idea to store things outside the kitchen because everywhere else is also filled with stuff.
But I don't want to have less stuff. Ideally I'd like more because I love ceramics and also would like a cast iron pan. I just don't see what we can get rid of without making things difficult for ourselves or getting rid of something I love.
Faint Promise of Rain by Anjali Mitter Duva - A couple years ago I realized that while I enjoy Women Being Awesome In History novels, I had mostly read books about Awesome White Ladies, so I put out a call for recs to fix that. I haven't managed to read any of the recs yet, but this was one of them.
The Affinity Bridge by George Mann - This was frequently recced during the steampunk trend of the late aughts and I liked the premise.
The Similarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien - Added this one sometime in my teens, I think, because by that point I'd read LOTR twice. I have read Part 1 of it twice and never gone further.
