Duskwood
PAST 2 A.M.: Richy Roger x fem!reader
Summary: "Can you please talk to me til I fall asleep? I don't want to be like, alone alone you know."
Notes: English isn't my first language. I apologize for any mistake I may have made while I wrote this short story.
So... Moonvale didn't really catch me - not like Duskwood did the very first time I played it. I decided to replay Duskwood once again and thought: why not give the characters some appreciation on Tumblr as well?
I hope you'll enjoy it :)
Warnings: SPOILERS! (please finish the game before reading), swearing
•••
Hey!
I can see that you're awake too.
Richy looked at the screen of his phone and frowned. Of course he was awake! All those things about the Man Without a Face were keeping him up at night, not being able to fall asleep.
His mind was going and going, the cogs in his brain turning.
But what could she want? It was late, way past 2 a.m.. At the very least she should be asleep.
Haha, you got me!
I can't really fall asleep now.
Yeah. I get it.
There's just too much on my mind right now.
Well, it wasn't surprising.
She was pulled into this mess and until a few days ago she had no idea whatsoever who they were. She was also empathetic - he liked that about her a lot. And because of that she felt useless - she was far away, unable to help.
You and me both.
But are you okay?
Dumb question, but still... he wanted to know.
He liked her. Liked her a lot.
And although it was absolutely neccessary to mess with her too, to try and keep her away, he sometimes - everytime - felt bad about doing so.
I don't know. Maybe?
Not really?
I'm worried about Jessy.
Richy swallowed, glad that they were only texting. Otherwise he would've been caught red handed.
He had to do that too. But it wasn't anything serious. He didn't want to hurt Jessy. He made sure she was okay.
I know. I am worried too. But Jessy's strong. She'll pull herself through this.
And then we can all go and kick that Man's ass.
Richy chuckled. A hint of nervousness was in his voice.
Well said.
So...
So what?
You sure you're not in love with her?
With Jessy I mean.
Richy grinned, blush painting his cheeks red.
No, of course not.
Jessy was a great friend and a nice girl, although sometimes a way too distracted employee, but still-- she was just a friend.
The question made him smile, suddenly all his worries forgotten. It was cute - the uncertainity.
Sometimes he wondered if she had someone else too.
Umm...
Yeah. I'm pretty sure.
Like very sure.
Alright then.
So...
What about you?
What about me?
Are you in love? With anyone I mean.
Richy looked at the three dots and small pencil in the left corner. He'll know. He'll know the answer soon.
No. I'm not.
Single life's great, isn't it?
Richy laughed.
Yeah it is.
Her being free of any romantic emotion for anyone gave him hope. Maybe... Maybe if he cleans this mess up, he'll have a chance.
So... I kinda wanted to ask for a favor.
Richy raised one of his eyebrows.
A favor? Past 2 a.m.? What kind?
Sure. What can I do for you?
Can I call you?
Richy felt his heartbeat quicken, his pulse jumping up and down.
Call him?
Is everything okay?
Yeah, I just...
Can you please talk to me til I fall asleep?
I don't want to be like, alone alone you know.
Richy looked at the screen in disbelief.
She trusted him that much. She liked him that much.
For a while he didn't know what to type.
Are you still here?
Shit...
Yes. Sorry I'm here. I just don't even know what to say...
Why me?
The three dots with the pencil appeared again - then disappeared. It happened once again, and then her answer finally appeared on the screen.
I like you.
I mean a lot.
It's okay if you don't want to I just don't want to be completely alone right now.
Texting is just fine too.
The messages had appeared quickly, one after the other. She must've been nervous. It wouldn't have been surprising - this call would be more... personal. More of a personal need than anything else.
Instead of answering, Richy simply just called her.
And she picked up - after swallowing down a tiny heart attack.
"Hi..." she whispered, her voice hoarse and tired.
It must've sounded hoarse. She knew she cried a lot after what had happened to Jessy, and she haven't really found her voice since then.
"Hi." Richy didn't sound nervous or stressed at all - tired, maybe. Tired a whole lot. "Is everything okay?"
"Better now." she smiled although she knew he couldn't see it. "I just needed someone to get my mind off things."
"I'm happy to help." she could hear the smile in his voice.
"Thank you, Richy. Really..." she pulled the covers up, hiding her whole body from the cold room. Even though the room was still dark and cold, it wasn't that lonely anymore.
"No problem." silence wanted to settle in, but Richy stopped it just in time. "So... this club of ours isn't too fun when we can't sleep at night, huh?"
She chuckled. She hoped he heard it.
"No, definitely not. But at the very least we are in the same boat."
"Well said."
She closed her eyes for a second, then opened them again. The world seemed to finally slow down, her mind got quieter - she felt the sleepiness in her eyes.
"Tell me something. Something fun. Like when you told me about the dare-house." she asked and then got quiet as she waited for an answer.
"Well, there was this one time when Dan got a job at the florist'..." Richy began and she let out a chuckle.
"Jessy already mentioned this one." she confessed.
"Did she tell you what we did after we found out?" he asked.
She could clearly hear that he was surpressing a laugh.
"Not really..."
"We decided to order this very big bouquet, full of roses and everything. We made him write 'To my bestest friends' with a heart on it. He didn't know we were the ones who ordered it of course, so when all of us turned up there for it he was really surprised."
She giggled.
"Poor guy. Was he mad?"
"Upset is a better word for it." he laughed too.
"Upset?"
"Well he might've thrown us out of there..."
She turned to rest on her back as she giggled, imagining the whole scene play out. All of them standing there - the whole group including Hannah too...
Hannah.
They have to find Hannah. They have to make the culprit pay. Especially after what he did to Jessy.
Richy was suddenly saying her name. He must've noticed how quiet she became.
"Sorry, I just... got distracted."
"The bad kind?"
She sighed.
How does he always know?
"The bad kind." she explained. "Just... take care of yourselves, okay? Especially you and Jessy, now that she was attacked and you were marked."
"We'll look out for ourselves, don't worry."
His voice was strange. She could hear something in it. Something what wasn't like him at all. There was no joy in it, no joke in it. It was completely serious - the very bad kind of serious.
But before she had a chance to question it, Richy spoke up again.
"But you have to look out for yourself too. Jessy would want that, wouldn't she?"
Damn, he knew how to get her to do what was good for everyone.
"She'd want me to have a good night's sleep." she agreed. "But she'd want the same for you as well."
It was quiet for a while again.
Then ignoring the serious topics they began to talk about, Richy continued to talk about different things that had happened to them, long before Hannah disappeared.
He told her how Cleo messed up her pyramid cake once so almost everyone in the group got food poisoning... How Richy accidentally scratched a client's car... How Hannah once poured a whole bottle of beer onto someone at the Aurora... How Thomas once got so drunk that he forgot Hannah was his girlfriend and started to cry when she told him she wasn't single... Or how Jessy once made them have a horror movie marathon, even though Lilly wasn't the biggest fan of it.
She sometimes laughed or smiled.
And after a while she got too tired to answer.
Some time ago her eyes closed and she fell asleep, completely oblivious to the fact that Richy finished his last story and chose to not say anything else. He continued to listen to her breathing, waiting patiently.
Then after some time, after he was sure she was asleep - that she won't wake up anytime soon, he said:
"I'm so sorry, MC. But I have to finish this now."
His voice was full of guilt.
He felt guilty.
He felt every ounce of hope disappear.
He won't have a chance to make everything better.
Then the call ended...

𝗗𝗪 𝗕𝗼𝘆𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 "𝗕𝗮𝗯𝗲"
Characters: Jake, Richy, Dan, Thomas, Phil, Alan
Warnings: None, I guess. Phil got slightly suggestive but it's Phil so. Oh, and no beta read.
A/n: Hey, look what this is. A little, silly, headcanon thingy. What can I say? No idea how I came up with it. But I was bored. Don't expect too much. It's small and it's silly, as I said. Hope you like it anyway. 💚
𝗝𝗔𝗞𝗘
Oh boy, he would freeze on the spot and be unable to move.
He would stare at the table as if he could set it on fire with his eyes. Although he has clearly heard the nickname, his mind needs a few more moments until it has seeped through every cell of his body and the real meaning breaks over him.
You could swear the man is starting to shake with tension.
He is completely shocked that you give someone like him a pet name and indirectly express your feelings for him.
On the inside he explodes with joy and in his imagination a tear rolls over his cheek which he holds back in reality with everything he has.
Either way, he would be absolutely powerless against the crooked grin which is slowly creeping over his lips, so he does nothing but let it happen.
He has clenched his hands into fists and his cheeks turn slightly red in embarrassment but he has to hear it again.
"Can you repeat it?" he would whisper with broken voice.
You would of course repeat it and it would burn into his memory and he is one hundred percent sure that this is the most beautiful thing he has ever heard.
If possible his love for you would increases even further and if you would ask him right now to commit a murder for you then he would only ask which weapon you want him to use.
If he were to stand, his knees would probably give in and he would collapse.
He’s completely at your mercy.
𝗥𝗜𝗖𝗛𝗬
Pah, the hyperactive rubber ball would lose all composure.
He would look at you with the widest grin and you would be worried that his cheeks would tear open as much as he smiles at you.
He would wrap his arms around you to pull you happily in for a hug. Probably the hug is a little too tight.
He would kiss your forehead and then rattle down all the pet names he can think of to test what would be the best name for you and how it feels to pronounce it.
He would continue without interruption throughout the entire day.
𝗗𝗔𝗡
Pff, Dan is a macho.
That man would immediately start grinning like the greatest charmer and would tease you with it.
"Well, see, see, babe it is now, huh? Took long enough. But I’ve known for a very long time that you call me that every night in your dreams, I mean, how could you not"
He would smirk sinfully before placing his arm around your shoulder, pulling you closer to kiss you.
Then he would whisper "I love you too, babe" against your lips.
𝗧𝗛𝗢𝗠𝗔𝗦
What should happen? The guy’s a puppy through and through.
He would look at you like he was your pet and you just showed him his favorite little toy and he would be waiting for you to finally throw it so he can bring it back to you happily.
You can swear that you see his eyes getting a little wetter but he would say "I have something in my eye" to distract but you know of course that it’s just an excuse and would have to grin about it.
He would kiss you gently and tell you how much he loves you, of course not without also using a pet name for you.
In his head, however, he already plans that you both move into an apartment together, how you get married and have children and lead the happiest life until the end of your life.
𝗔𝗟𝗔𝗡
First of all, he would warn you and ask you how many times he has told you not to use his police radio at home to "call" him. He has a private phone with which you can make calls very well.
But then he would have to concentrate completely on not grinning broadly and would tell you that in his lunch break would come home so that you can continue talking there.
The rest of the shift he’d be a little grinning idiot no matter what case he’s working on.
After he came home, he would wink at you and confess how much he enjoyed you calling him that and telling you to always call him that.
Of course, you will do it with utmost pleasure. Of course, you'll be using the police radio.
𝗣𝗛𝗜𝗟
He would smile cheekily and answer you. But of course not without using the same pet name at the end of his sentence and emphasizing it extra strongly.
He would stop cleaning the bar to come around the counter grab you by your hips.
Of course he would kiss you and then whisper in your ear.
"Babe? That’s fucking hot, I think I can go home earlier tonight, the others can do the rest on their own. We should go home urgently."
It's obvious that he would wink at you.

BROKEN PROMISES
CH.2 a way out
Pairing: Jake Donfor x reader
Words: 1.5k
Check out the first chapter on my masterlist
It was over I pondered; this would be my end. The feeling of helplessness seemed to swallow my being, thankfully the common sense was slowly rising from the ocean of the panic that almost dominated my head. Michael Hanson was injured, shot two times by Dan. I stretch my back and I felt the figure behind me disorientating lightly, so I shoved my elbow to his side and I heard a groan and the grip around my neck loosened and I seized the opportunity to stepped away. I saw the man with the mask, it was loose over his head.
He only stared at me and I found myself taking steps backwards, away from him, he didn't react, he only sighed and slowly brought his hand in the back of his neck and gently started to remove the mask. I couldn't believe my eyes as the mask fell to the ground, the man without a face had two faces apparently...
"No" I breathed out.
"I am sorry Nellie" he mumbled and didn't attempt to move.
"You... You are sorry? This is all you have to say?" I yelled at him, I felt tears, I didn't know if it was from anger because I was outsmarted and played, from the betrayal I felt or the hurt... It was Richy, the person who was supposingly helped us get the legend, helped the rest hide. He attacked Jessy, twice... The person he was 'in love' with.
"You were right you know... About everything" He started off ignoring everything I was saying. "About everything pretty much, But you missed one thing. There were three people that night" He started saying and he slowly broke down as he narrated everything he did the past weeks, how he was with the girls the night of the accident, and how he lured Hannah to the Hanson residence. I was left looking at him, speechless. He didn't say anything, he couldn't.
His phone suddenly started to ring. I saw Jessy's picture. "I'd like to see how you will tell her. She was shattered when I told her what I saw happen to you..." I spoke.
"Leave" He stated and I laughed lightly at his demanding tone that seemed to be confident enough. "I was serious about the explosives you know..." he spoke and it felt like a punch in the throat. Jake, I had to reach him first, how could I forget him.
"One last thing..." I spoke "Why my number? Why me?" I asked loudly and he simply shook his head.
His gaze blank as he looked at me, his black eyes weren't cheerful and sweet as the way I had met him, he was dark now. He didn't speak, I walked towards him and pushed him. He took out a knife and placed it under my chin and I stayed still. "I wouldn't waste the few minutes I have left MC" He spoke and once he removed the knife from my neck, I took some steps backwards before finally running off that specific tunnel. I got notification on my phone, to join in Richy and Jessy's call. I was sad, she was crying hysterically her sobs echoing in my head. She definitely didn't deserve this, the hurt in her voice when she realized he marked her and attacked her, I was listening to them as I called Jake's name.
'Who else did you tell about the mine?' Alan asked through a text message. He hadn't realize where I was.
'Why do you ask?' I texted and paused, it sounded important and maybe if I moved the reception would be lost again.
'The FBI just arrived, and I do not think it is for Mrs. Donford...' he replied and I panicked.
"Shit shit shit" I repeated "Jake?" I yelled and texted him as well. My voice echoed as I decided to call him. It was the first time I did so, the circumstances didn't allow the butterflies to fly around, even though I had to admit there were plenty hints of enthusiasm and happiness despite the sticky situation we found ourselves into. A few seconds later I heard the Nokia 2000s ringtone, I couldn't help but giggle. My heart was beating fast and for several seconds I forgot about the explosives and the FBI. He was behind me.
I finished the call without turning around.
"Nellie" spoke Jake, his voice calm but shaky, echoing at the dark alley.
I slowly turned around and faced him, he looked oddly like Hannah in many ways but he also didn't. He was wearing a black hoodie with a star wars emblem and a jacket, I scanned his appearance unintentionally, I only had to take in his vision. He had brown hair, messy.
"What are you doing here? Nellie you said-." He begun to preach me and I simply run and wrapped my arms around his neck only to realize how much taller than me he actually is and more fit than his looks. I could tell he was caught off guard, he slowly wrapped his arms around me and held me close for some moments before a buzz on my phone struck me back on reality.
I pulled away. "Well, there's shitty signal. And I really had to talk to you... for several things that tend to get higher on the number each time I have a notification." I spoke and I saw his confused gaze at me as I was staring up at him. "First things first... Hannah is safe, out of here with Bloomgate." I announced and I saw the relief upon his features and I smiled at him.
"She is safe?" He asked and his voice was bass but soothing. "How about Richy?" Jake asked. I clenched my jaw, he slowly brought his hand on my chin wiping some blood. "You encountered Michael" He realized. "I came here, so I would keep you safe Nellie, so you wouldn't have to undergo even more danger. I can't have you running mindlessly into jeopardy." He spoke and I rolled my eyes. It felt oddly familiar.
"Michael is indeed dead, Richy is behind everything you know. But this doesn't really matter now does it? I mean, Friendly Bureau of Information is here and Richy also mentioned some explosives... and something about only a few minutes. So we can run so you can preach me about my carelessness and thank me about saving your life." I smiled, seeing his struggle to catch up with my sassy babbling, it was oddly satisfying
"We need to get out" Jake spoke and took my hand.
"You think?" I asked as I ran beside him holding his hand just as tight. "FYI we don't have to worry about Richy and Bloomgate" I smiled lightly.
"Oh I only have one fear right now. Trust me it neither of those." He said.
"Care to share your fears Jake?" I panted lightly as he paused the run abruptly looking at his map and I stumbled on his back before stopping myself.
"Left to the shafts." He spoke and took my hand again. "Getting you out of here. I offered to come so you would be safe." Stated Jake. His thoughts were stuck on getting me out of there and to be honest I do not know if this angered me or had me melt.
"Let's just say that I always am a step ahead of you." Said I and winked. I could tell he was mad despite his smile at my expression.
"Of course." He spoke and looked at me with maintaining his smile. Once his gaze was removed his jaw clenched.
We were running, our pants echoing in the narrow tunnels. His flashlight finally reached the ladder when massive sound was heard. I paused and looked behind us to see the rocks falling and a wave of fire approaching. The whole mine shook and we started running from the inevitable. Jake was holding my hand so tight, I felt that he would smash it.
A/N: Hey there readers thank you for reaching this point. I hope you liked the chapter, there will be more soon. I always appreciate comments (or dms if you are too shy) and impressions good or bad (as long as we are not mean to eachother) as they motivate me to keep going.
Have a good rest of the day or night and dont forget to take care of yourself.
Yours, silvermist

Criminal Haven
Prologue
—The Leader—
A distant voice calls for me. My reluctance to open my eyes, though, is nothing new. When I'm sleeping, I'm meant to be alone. The knowledge that I'm not kills any desire to open my eyes.
“MC!”
My eyes snap open unwillingly. As discomfort and swelling pain spread across various portions of my body, I blink many times. My back is against some hard metal. Some dust particles fly into my eye. My eye crinkles as I try to reach it with my palm. My hands are restrained and as I whirl it around, I find I'm handcuffed. To a chair.
“MC.” The tone has softened.
When I turn to see where it is coming from, I see another man bound to a chair. I look around– four more people are seated in a circle, bound to chairs with the same metal cuffs. They’re all awake. They’re all in the dark about what is happening.
The only person who seems to be in control even in this situation is the guy to my left. If he is even afraid of anything, it is hard to tell. It appears as though he is scheming something. I'm unsure if he can sense my gaze or if he is purposefully dodging it.
I jerk my eyes away from him as they land on a well-known face.
“Richy?” I shout, my surprise muffling my voice. I'm sure I should be experiencing a thousand different emotions after seeing him. And the fact that relief predominates is not surprising to me.
The remainder of the heads suddenly turn towards me. I don't give them any thought. "You're still alive." I say. Thank goodness I didn't sound like I was asking a question.
Richy’s quiet.
“You shouldn't be.” The only girl besides me speaks. She makes no effort to conceal the resentment and venom in her voice. Hannah.
Richy droops his head and remains silent.
I feel someone's eyes on me. It’s the fifth guy, I have no clue who he is. When I glance at him, his mouth slightly opens. Like he's debating if he should say something or not. He's about to say something but someone cuts him off.
“Looks like I have all my subjects ready now.” The tormenting voice is loud. All of us look around the room, trying to find where it's coming from. There are four speakers in each corner.
“Shall we begin with a little introduction? Who should we begin with, then? How about the connecting thread?”
We all stare at each other in perplexity, not knowing who is being discussed. Save for the guy to my left, he remains composed as if he knows.
“The key.” He adds. My eyes enlarge. The only person who called me that was—
The guy who previously avoided looking at me, gulps hard. For the first time, he lets his face show a little of what he's feeling: fear. He knows that voice is speaking of me. There's only one way he could've known.
“MC. The key. The eloquent leader who everyone turns to.” He says while his tone insinuates something totally different.
“But whom does the leader rely on?” He asks.
All of us are silent. Others because they are speechless. I, since I am aware of whom I rely on.
“That brings us to our next subject. Jake Donfort.”
Richy, Hannah and I share a look. I turn to the dark-haired guy. He is no longer wary like he was in my introduction. His expressions are grim with a little to no salience.
“The hacker. The backbone who prefers to operate covertly.”
The guy I'm assuming to be Jake is pretending as if he's not paying attention at all. Like he's already contemplating how to escape. Now, there's no doubt.
“Jake,” I whisper to him.
“Not now.” He says, without sparing me a glance.
“Moving forward,” the voice continues. “The murderer who became a victim to her own partner in crime.” Both Hannah and Richy have gone stiff. While Richy’s face is hidden from my view, Hannah’s eyes are bloodshot. “Hannah Donfort.”
“And the partner in crime, the kidnapper, the traitor.” Behind the chair, Richy’s tied hands clench into fists. “Richy Roger.”
“The last of my subjects. Well, how about I let him be a little mystery? All I'll tell you about him is: he's an old friend of our beloved leader.”
My old friend?
“Very different personalities. Such contrasting priorities. But do you realise what you all share?”
Silence.
“Crime. You’re all bloody criminals. Another thing all have in common, despite your crimes and rotten insides, you put your pretty exterior out there and society accepts you. Despite your shabby hearts, there are people who'd love you. Always. But allow me to give you a little tip. This place you find yourselves captivated in. It's your safe haven, your home. You stay here, you stay clean. You put a step outside this place, I'll ruin you all. Your crimes will be made public with ten times more cruelty that you might have shown while committing the crime. Your lives will be ruined. Enjoy your stay.”

I wanted to have a posture of the title for this fic. But as it turns out, I'm not so good at it. I did manage to make it but everytime I add it here, the quality becomes shitty. Is someone willing to help with the posture (just the header sort of thing + chapter titles banner). Of course, i will give credits in each post.
Hit me up if u r willing to help me.
Thanks for reading.

Duskwood is Calling (SNEAK PEAK)
A/N: Hi friends, hello. Here's the start of the novelization I talked about a while back. This is just the intro to the first chapter, so think of it almost as a prologue, if that makes sense. Obviously spoilers through chapter 10 of the game, so don't read if you're avoiding those. Anyways. Here it is:
You don’t know how you got here. Not really.
If they asked you- everyone, all of them, Thomas and Cleo and Dan and Lilly and Jessy and Hannah and-
And not Jake. Not Jake, because Jake was stuck in the mines. Stuck with Richy, and the fire, and the unstable mineshafts and the dark and the cold and-
“(Y/N).” Alan breaks you from your train of thought. “(Y/N), I’m sorry. But I need to ask you a few questions about tonights events.” You nod. “How did you get here?”
I don’t know, you think. “I took a train.” You answer, because Alan means ‘What was your mode of transportation to Duskwood?’ and not ‘How did you come to know these people so intimately that thier loss has shattered something deep inside you?’
“I took the earliest train I could get out of Grand Central Station to Duskwood.” You pause, thinking of the frantic way you’d run to the ticket booth, of how the minutes it took to get your ticket felt like hours, and how the couple of hours on the train itself felt like eons. “It was only a few hours.” You continue, “I didn’t tell the others I was coming. They didn’t know until-” You gesture vaguley, still not comfortable acknowleding the nights events outloud.
“You didn’t tell any of them?” It seems to have genuinely shocked him, and that, in turn, surprises you. “Not Jessy, or Thomas?” You shake your head. “Why?”
“I didn’t want to worry them.” You shrug. “After everything else with Richy, and you finding Hannah, I didn’t-” You swallow against the lump in your throat. “I didn’t want them to worry about someone else being in danger.”
“But someone else was in danger, (Y/N).” Your eyes close against the harsh truth of the words, and you force yourself not to respond. “Jake Donfort was in danger.”
“I don’t know who that is.” You lie. You open your eyes again. Sitting before you is still Chief of Police Alan Bloomgate, this time looking much more sympathetic. He nods. “I don’t, Alan. I don’t know who Jake Donfort is.”
“I believe you, (Y/N).” He pauses, making sure to hold your eye contact. “I think that’s all we need from you, now. End of interview.” The click of the recorder puncuated the following silence. You stare at Alan in confusion.
“What-”
“You should get some rest, (Y/N).” He fixes you with a stern look. “You’ve had an emotional night.” You nod. “Do you have somewhere to stay?” You nod again, though this time it’s a lie. You didn’t think about what would happen after the mines. You didn’t think about anything but getting to Jake. “Miss Hawkins is outside.”
That grabs your attention. “Jessy is here?” Alan nods, collecting the files and paperwork from the interrogation table in front of you. “I’ve been told she refused to leave when she learned you were being detained for questioning.” You manage a small laugh. “She’s worried. Perhaps you should stay with her tonight. I’m sure the motel will keep your booking.” And something in his voice tells you he knew you were lying.
“Yeah, thanks.” You agree, finally standing from your chair. It bothers you, though. The fact that he didn’t push you about Jake. About knowing him. “Detective Bloomgate-”
“It doesn’t matter, (Y/N).” He cuts you off again. “No one could have-” He pauses, seeming to think over his words. “I’m sorry. But no one could have survived that fire. And even if he could, those shafts were unstable before the fire. I can’t imagine thier state now.” He shakes his head, sighing to himself. “I’m sorry. I truly am. But he’s gone. It doesn’t matter if you knew him on record or not. Jake Donfort is dead.”
He’s right, and you know it, but you don’t understand. You can’t understand how this could be happening.
I don’t know how I got here.

Things Change-4 (Duskwood x Reader)

--------
Complications, fun little things life likes to throw your way. And you can either embrace them, find solutions, and resolve it. Or you can simply run and avoid it until it has finally hunted you down.
I’ve faced my fair share of complications. Most of the time, I’ve tried to ignore them, to convince myself that I’m fine when I’m anything but. I try to shove it so far down in some hopes it might resolve on it’s own.
Never seems to work no matter how much I try again and again.
And now...now, another one has been thrown my way.
Your heart is a funny thing, it can want so many things at once. It can sway either way, especially when it comes to something called love. Now they say if you’re going to choose between two people, always chose the second. Because if you’ve truly loved the first one, you wouldn’t have fallen for the second.
Now riddle me this, two people have walked into your life. One a wanted individual who can never truly be as open as you want them to be. Who can never be as present as you need them to be. But it’s clear they would do anything to keep you safe and secure, even if it means they risk themselves. In them, you always find a comfort unlike any other. And two, the new person, one who all you’ve heard were these bad things. But when you meet them, they’re anything but. Instead, they can listen for time on end. They make you smile and laugh more than you ever have. They make you feel alive...and they can be there. You know it’s only the start into what may be, feeling there is so much more there than meets the eye.
How I am to choose? How am I to know which one is best?
How do I not let any of this infiltrate this influence me? How can I ever focus on the case on hand?
I don’t know. I don’t know anything anymore.
And nothing seems to help, only worsening it all.
Because here I stand, in the midst of this chaotic spider web. Trapped like a fly, waiting to be devoured.
Knowing that someone I’ve called a friend is out there, wrecking havoc on us all. It’s all coming together, my suspicions are only growing. It’s only a matter of time before I’m caught or he is.
It’s the only way any of this can end.
-----------
And as the night finally quelled down, as the alcohol slowly left her system, (Y/n) could feel her mind begin to clear.
(Y/n) and Lilly able to piece together the puzzle Jake left behind for them both, now it was only a matter of time before it would come full circle. (Y/n) could see her reservations about the newcomer, understand where she came from. While she said water under the bridge, it would take time to really forgive Lilly for what she did.
And of course, how could she forget Dan, texting her out of the blue. She could imagine how worried he was and he had his own unique way of showing it. Something that warmed her heart to see, especially as they weren’t as different as they thought they were. As they were forming a relationship of their own, beyond the pressures they faced.
Leaving her with Phil, the conversations in person and online resonating deeply with her. Unsure what to think now, much less what to feel. Though she wondered if she gave anything away, if Phil might uncover her own secrets and what he may do with said information.
It was all banking on time now. To see how things may or may not unfold.
So it was as good as time as any to sort the mess of her head as everything began to simmer down for once. (Y/n) looked to her phone then to her portable evidence board. Trying to fill in the missing pieces with hypotheticals but her mind kept wandering back to the night of Jessy’s attack.
(Y/n) knew only a few people knew what Jessy was planning that night. Richy by default being the employer, Phil knew bits when he confronted her but he only knew the rumors surrounding (Y/n). The others, well Dan was in the hospital, Cleo and Thomas were breaking and entering, and Lilly didn’t want to be involved.
“It’s all coming together, Jax. It’s funny, how wary some of them were to me. But in reality, it’s a person closest to them that they should be most wary of.”
A few oddities seemed to be blatantly obvious now she had time to have fun and go see the world beyond her home and computer. It was really proved to be helpful.
“I understand why none of them were able to uncover what happened. Because none of them wanted to face the dirty truth. It’s only a matter of time now.”
Now, she had her growing suspicions and it seemed to go back to one person again and again. Whether she wanted to accept it or not was hard to say.
Especially given everything.
(Y/n) knew the others may not accept her suspicions, none of them wanted to think that one of their own could have done this. So for now, she decided to let it play out a bit longer. To see where this road is bound to take her and whether he would move again.
Maybe then, more evidence would present itself. Maybe then, they would be more open to this theory of hers.
Maybe...
-----------
“This isn’t right, none of this is right!”
“That doesn’t matter right now. We have to look out for ourselves, (Y/n). You think they’re going to let us off the hook? You think it’ll be a slap on the wrist if we spill our guts? We aren’t dumb, little kids any more.”
“And this is the right thing? Can’t you hear yourself, right?! I mean, take a look in the mirror and tell me what you see right now.”
Gesturing at young woman, at all they were doing. For what? To cover their hides, to let someone else take the fall, so that they might have a chance at a decent life. She looked at the group, trying to find a single line of reason between them.
But none of them said a word. None of them could even look her in the eye.
“I’m not sure about you guys but I’m not living with this guilt. I refuse to let things go this way.”
“(Y/n)!”
“Come back! We’ll figure something out.”
“Please!”
Their words fell deaf on her ears as she continued pressing on. Finding her way back to the road, to the town she could barely call a home.
Not after everything, especially not after this.
And then, with a thump, things went dark.
Ring...Ring...Ring...
----------
The sound of her phone ringing woke the sleeping woman, for once she had an entire night of good rest. For once, she didn’t rely on her pills to guide her through a night of dreamless slumber. And for once, she didn’t feel like the waking dead.
And when (Y/n)’s eyes saw the caller id, she almost fell out of bed reaching for her phone.
“Jessy? How are you doing?”
“Better, my body still hurts but it’s not as bad as before. It’s also nice to hear your voice, (Y/n).”
“I’m glad. You know, I’m always here for you if you ever need anything.”
“I know. Though I had hoped our date would have ended better. I would have showed you around my house as we toasted to the night. Until, you know.”
“Jessy, I had a fun time. You got my mind off of everything and I can’t thank you enough.”
Though they both went silence, (Y/n) could imagine Jessy’s giddy smile gracing her face, capturing her many features just nicely.
“(Y/n), are you going to keep your promise? Are you going to take me away from this place when this is all over?”
“I am a woman of my word. I’ll take you away if you still desire it.”
“I want you to.”
“Then it shall happen, m’lady.”
She could hear that laughter that was like honey on the ears. Jessy was slowly becoming the best friend (Y/n) missed on having. While others may mistake it as more, (Y/n) knew where they both stood on these matters. At least (Y/n) hoped she did.
But if this friendship would continue growing, (Y/n) could only imagine where else it would go. How more their friendship would grow and blossom. Something she wouldn’t give up for the world.
“(Y/n), thank you. You’ve done so much for us...for me. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to repay you.”
“Don’t worry about it. It’s what any person with a heart would have done.”
“I don’t think so. Which is why I want to ask something of you. I want you to come to Duskwood, I want to see the woman who has done so much for us in person.”
“Jessy...I don’t know.”
“I guessed as much.”
“Look, I’ll think about it. There’s no promises but I’ll think about it.”
“I appreciate it. Talk later?”
“Yeah, talk later.”
Sighing, (Y/n) wondered how much longer she would have to put with this farce of hers. She knew it was only going to be a matter of time before word spread around this small town. Word of the new girl passing through and if they were smart enough, they would be able to figure it out.
And lies were no way to keep up the trust that was being built.
So she would only have to wait until the situation needed it so.

Goodbye
Richy Rogers X Gender Neutral Reader
A/N: Because Episode 10 fucked me up, enjoy some Richy angst my people.
Warning:
So this goes without saying, spoilers for episode 10
Mentions of commiting suicide
Alright thank you, now cry with me.
This can be interpreted as platonic or romantic.
"All of it... All of it was you...?"
"It was."
It ripped him to shreds to see the long held reservoir in your eyes finally break, flooding and streaming from your face. Suddenly, the gunshot didn't feel as painful as the heavy weight from his chest.
Y/N L/N, the major piece of the puzzle, the string that kept the group together— through the threats, through the danger, from the doubts, from the circumstances, the pain and all that to find Hannah Donfort. Even if they were a stranger, that mere stranger was the one who managed to pull the group together whilst simultaneously doing everything in their might to find Hannah Donfort, a girl that they didn't even knew existed. He envies them, there were moments of them caving in anxiety, but he has seen them power through it again and again... And he finally saw you giving in and crying.
He wanted to tell them not to cry, but what right does he have to say such a thing? Guilt, he is the very reason why you were hiccuping and taking sharp intakes of air, he thought that you'd lose your breath and faint.
"The threats? You were the one sending me videos and messages? The video with Cleo? Jessy? Oh my god, you hurt Jessy!"
"It didn't have to be this way I—"
"Have you any idea, how I cried myself when you were 'captured'? I couldn't breath, I almost didn't want to continue the investigation, I was scared because now I crossed the line but it was you! Jessy, Lilly, EVERYONE! EVERYONE WAS SCARED! I thought you would have died, we lived in constant fear of the man without a face, Michael Hanson, would take one of them away again and we'd lose another one!"
They struggled to get through words, gasping and sobbing, but every single line were arrows heavily impacted him. It was clear to him, even if it seemed incoherent.
"I was considering ending it all to escape from it, you know... Just like Amy... If it weren't for the small hope that I'd find you and Hannah again and it will all be over..."
The mechanic's chest tightened, he never thought it could get worse. But in your words, things could always get worst.
"I cared about you, you know? You were my friend. I know you guys were wary of me from the beginning, but you were always welcoming even if you didn't trust me... The way you joked and made things light-hearted when things were getting heavy, when things were going tense... I knew the fact that I can always count on you, our cherished our moments together in the legend of duskwood groupchat... You and I were even planning to make a 'marked by the sign of the raven' clubhouse with Cleo..."
Amidst the tears and snot, you managed to laugh, even if it was pathetic. Richy finds himself recalling the pleasant memory, smiling fondly yet sadly. At the middle of a grim situation of your troubles with his threatning phonecall, Cleo's stalker, and the mark on his garage, and yet you find the moment to make light of the situation.
"When you staged that video of you bleeding from the mouth... I got sick in my stomach at the fact that I should've tried harder to stop you. I cried and cried for hours while maintaining my cool in the chat with the others... And when Michael— heh... When the man without a face— he called me again, that I'll regret this, telling me that what happened to you wasn't enough, that he'd kill everyone and then me... I can't... Breathe..."
"I'm sorry... I truly am..." His voice cracks.
"Richy... Oh my god... What am I going to do, how am I going to tell the others?" Your voice has gotten weak, all used up and tired of it all.
"Please... Forgive me..."
"I don't know, Richy..." You swipe the bottom of your palm under your eyes, taking shaky breaths and choking out a sob.
Then, you hung up with a shaky breath.
You might just be the strongest person Richy ever knew, from the amount of pressure piled into you and even through your tumultuous times, not a slip nor crack did he caught a glimpse of it.
But now, he knows that the strength has a limit.
He now knows what it means to break someone and will continue to know once the others found out.
As of cue, Jessy's chat bubble erupts from his screen.
It turns out, it can get even more worse.

Chapter 2: Emotions? How About No
—The Leader—
Darkness' revelation brings fresh questions to the table. Some of which I could answer right now but I rather not think of them yet and draw conclusions– not without discussing them with Jake.
I glance at him, searching in his face if he's thinking the same. The expression he gives me as he looks down at me tells me that we are indeed thinking the same thing.
“Who is he?” Hannah breaks the silence, her tone has become that of a tired worker. She longer hides her wince as new information keeps surfacing. For her, it might be exhausting. For Jake and I, it is everything. The scheming, the truth and the lies, the masks and the uncoverings– we can never alter our minds out of this catacomb of games.
“He contributed to finding you.” He explains, vaguely. But I think he has not read much of my and darkness' messages. I think he realises that too as he sighs. He pulls someone's emptied chair– Richy’s, I think and places it facing both my and Kai’s chairs.
I add, “He was the most cooperative person, believe me.” I turn to Hannah. “If I were you, I’d thank him.” I curl my lips into a natural smile.
She stares at me, blankly, standing in the middle of the room. She looks as if she doesn't understand what I am implying. She's suffering from unimaginable things, I understand that. I feel that better than anyone else. Considering her condition, I won't ask much of her in whatever escape plan we might come up with. But that doesn't mean she’ll be excused from endeavouring as little as saying a thank you.
‘Say it.’ I mouth to her. My natural smile turned into a threatening one, unintentionally, but I can't deny that it has worked every time.
Her eyes dart to Jake who cannot see my face. I don't know if he encouraged her to do it or not but she whispers, “Thank you.” to the walls as I keep my glare pinned on her.
Go easy on her, I remind myself, mostly because Jake would prefer the same thing. I turn almost too quickly realising how much Jake is interfering in my smallest decisions.
Kai acknowledges her gratitude as he nods to the floor.
I make a mental note: he can be helpful but he's awkward accepting compliments or gratitude. That concludes why it was necessary for me to compliment me and for the same matter, Hannah to thank him. He already believes it my fault that he's here. I'm not afraid to accept that he is. But if he blames the part he played in Hannah's search, he might as well believe that he did it well.
Jake is looking at me strangely. I ignore directly looking at him exactly like I ignored Richy’s defeated figure dropped into a corner, his legs pulled to his chest and his head on his knees.
This isn't like solving a mystery through texting. This is real life and I cannot be vulnerable to one person while being persuasive to someone else on the different chat window.
I have to mention the mindset where my mind weighs more than my heart. That is the only way to get things done. We can be vulnerable when we are safe.
I inhale a deep breath, hardening my posture. “If we really want to get the hell out of here,” I speak loudly, ensuring my voice reaches Richy in the corner. I continue, “We’d need to stick together. Doesn't matter if you hate each other. Suck it up and bear it.”
I’m on my feet when I take a turn towards the door. Richy’s head turned in my direction. I realise, it's not only him. Everyone's looking at me.
“I don't really expect anything from you. Don't want to help? Don't. Just don't get in my way.” I announce, loud and clear. Though expecting the opposite of what words suggest. “Questions?”
Dead silence.
“Need a ten to think?” I provoke.
Kai is the first (and probably the only one who would) raise a question. He begins by quoting me, “Don't want to help? Don't.” I remain composed as he continues, “More like don't want to follow? Then, don't. But you know, whoever leads the way out of here, others will follow him or her.” I break into a smile, realising what he's bringing to others' attention. “You're just initiating to make sure that we follow you.”
I stride towards him as I quote him, “Initiating.” I stop by the chair I was sitting on and place my head on it. “That’s right. I am initiating. And if anyone else had the balls to do the same, they would have. But no one did. I guess that justifies why you should follow me.”
“Well, you couldn't have initiated it if he didn't uncuff you.” He gestures to Jake who is about to interfere. But that looks weak on my part. I appreciate it but I don't need it.
“That's a petty argument.” I cut in before Jake could. I shake my head at Jake as I pace towards Kai.
“Reasonable enough.” He refutes.
Stopping behind his chair, I break off a shim from the chair and use it to unlock his handcuffs. I intentionally pulled the shim from the part of the chair which was reachable in handcuffs.
Jake is by my side in a matter of seconds, probably because he doesn't trust Kai yet. But I do, to a certain extent which tells me he would not physically hurt me. He's just pissed.
“Now,” I talk loudly again. “Anyone up for breaking down that door?” I point at it with one finger.
—The Hacker—
From the moment she called reading Dan and Jessica's conversation illegally an exciting event, I knew she was trouble. And she only keeps proving it again and again. Sometimes, I admire it. Sometimes, it throws me to the edge.
Like right now. I understand what she was aiming for. There's no way out if we operate like five individuals without a common link who we all trust at some level. But she didn't hesitate once before uncuffing this guy none of us knows enough to trust.
Hannah, MC and I stand back as Richy and Pierce hammer their shoulders against the door. They continue thrice without pause but the door doesn't budge. They take a moment.
Kai glances back at me. “Why isn't he helping us again?”
This is why I prefer to work alone (and of course, this preference doesn't apply to MC). I don't like being questioned. “Is the door broad enough for the three of us?” I reason, very calmly.
They continue at it, knowing they are the two least trusted people in our group and raising nonsensical questions wouldn't change that. After six minutes, the door broke.
Neither of the guys step outside. Instead, they step aside, catching their breaths and stealing glances outside the door. MC is the first one to shift to the door. I grab her hand at the threshold. She glances at me as I step outside the door before her. “After me,” I tell her. She complies.
I glance in both directions. The corridor stretches so long in both directions– it seems endless. They are almost identical except there seems to be a little light coming from the right. Little by little, everyone's out in the corridor.
“Which way is it? We should go to the right. There's light coming from there so it isn't a dead end.” Hannah comments, her voice growing anxious.
“Should we break into two groups or something?” Kai suggests as no one addresses Hannah’s opinion because she's making a rookie mistake– being hasty and going with the obvious choice.
I think of Kai’s suggestion but I can't come up with a possible reasonable arrangement of two groups without separating me and MC.
“No.” I answer.
“So we choose one? On what basis?”
“We’ll come up with the basis if you stop asking questions.”
He glares at me, pissed. Then, he glances at MC and looks away. Everytime I say something to him, he looks at her as if reconsidering arguing with me for her sake. My eyes fly to her as well, wondering if she noticed it. But she's distracted and hasn't said anything after stepping out of the door.
She's shifted towards the left corridor. While everyone looks around, she looks down at the floor. I walk to her, she crouches down and picks something up. I bend to see a note in her hand at the same time she springs up. Her head collides with my chin.
She looks up, annoyed as I hide my smile. “What are you, glancing down at me? My guardian angel?” She takes a tiny step back.
“I’d prefer being called a partner.” I retort. “Although, I do feel bad for your guardian angel.”
She shoves a hand at my chest, walking past me but stops. I follow her gaze– everyone looks at us questionably, clearly not having as much fun as us. She clears her throat, the first time getting awkward.
“What does the note say?” Kai asks.
“What does the note say,” she echoes mockingly or …playfully?
I peer at the note as she read, “Two roads diverged in a yellow wood/ And sorry I could not travel both.”
“Robert Frost.” I say, immediately.
She nods a couple times. “The road not taken.”
“What’s that?” Hannah asks. I remember our conversations via emails and literature wasn't one of the topics ever. Come to think of it, we had nothing in common.
“A poem.” MC and I say I'm unison.
Kai jumps in. “Didn’t he take the less travelled path?”
Both of us nod. Richy adds something for the first time. “Well, how did he decide which one was the least travelled?” He looks at no one in particular.
“The less travelled one was more grassy.” MC answers.
“So in our case, the less travelled one would be the left one, right? Because it's dark and could be a dead end or something.” Kai remarks.
“So can be the right one.” Hannah weighs in.
“At least it has the probability of having a window.”
I contemplate the poem, analysing from word to word. I remember each word clearly. “No,” I cut in. “We are taking the words at face value. The message of the poem wasn't to travel a less taken route. It was to make a decision carefully.”
MC looks at me, creasing her brows. “Then, we are at square one again.”
“No, we are not. Half of us thought about taking the less travelled path which means that is exactly what he wanted us to think.” I point out.
“Which means,” MC points at the way from where a tiny ray of light penetrates. “That's where we need to go.”
“Exactly.”
We start following the light. I can sense the others are not entirely sure of this but they will begin trusting us as we’ll give them hope by getting nearer to the way out.
A small smile emerges on MC's lips as we walk behind others. “You a literature guy?” She gives me a side look.
“You have no idea.” I tell her and then, I add, “We need to talk.”
She nods. “We do.” She whispers. “The only way that a lunatic could know about Kai is by having access to my messages. You had access to my messages. You're a hacker.” I smile, knowing we were thinking the same thing again.
“We are up against a hacker.”
“One who's pissed off. Can you think of anyone?”
I inhale. “I could think of a thousand. I've screwed many guys in the same field as me but none was as strong as to have all of us here.”
She considers it silently.
“We have another thing to discuss.”
She thinks for a moment as she arrives at no answer, she looks at me, “What thing?”
“Unlocking his handcuffs when you know a hundred ways it could turn out as a bad idea.” I don't beat around the bush.
“I needed to show him that I trust him to have him do the same. And I don't like being looked down upon.”
“I know you won't stop doing risky things just because I tell you not to. And I won't tell you that. Just promise to give me a heads up before you do something like that again. Deal?” I say, softly.
“Deal. But you have to promise not to talk me out of my stunts.”
“Deal.”
She offers her fist and I bump mine against it lightly.

Duskwood Detectives - Part 2
Meeting The Hacker
F/f means Favourite flower
Jake X female!Reader
Notification: Message from Jake
There's an alleyway beside your local store. I want you to go there.
Any specific reason?
Because I cannot say this in text. It's too dangerous. We need to talk in person.
Is this your excuse for wanting to know what I look like?
No, I really do need to talk to you. But also yes, for that reason too :)
When?
Right now.
She huffed a laugh down at her phone, shaking her head before getting her coat from its hanger and heading out the front door.
She walked all the way to the local store, the excitement of what was to come making her legs move faster. The small town of Birch Lake was quiet, like it always was. The perfect place where Y/n could stay low.
Turning down the alleyway, it was dark, only lit by a light above the side door of the store.
She looked around as she walked further down the alley, past the store side door, squinting her eyes to try and peer through the darkness but saw no one.
Turning around, her breath hitched seeing she was no longer alone. The figure also seemed to still, shoulders tensing a bit as if surprised that she was actually here.
The figure reached up, putting his hood down slowly and gently.
Her eyes widened. "Is it really you?" She asked, her voice quiet in shock.
He nodded, a small smile forming on his lips as his eyes watched her expression change from surprised to pure happiness.
Before he could register it, she had rushed up to him, throwing her arms around his tall frame. "Oh my- Jake!"
His arms rubbing up and down her back comfortingly as he heard her sniffle. "Y/n" He whispered, taking in her scent, her pleasant smell of lavender and F/f. He felt tears of his own start to form.
Though they have known each other for a few years now, this was the first time they had seen eachother's faces. And that fact hit them straight in the feels.
The two cried together, for all they had been through, with the kidnapping of Jake's sister, Hannah. For Richey's death. For all they had sacrificed to make sure they got a happy ending out of the situation. And it all payed off.
Without Y/n, they probably never would have found Hannah. And without Jake, they never would of had the resources for the investigation. Their friends also each played a part in helping find the lost young woman.
"We're alright" He reassured. "Don't worry"
"The only one I worry about is you" Y/n replied, pulling back from the hug but staying close. "What are you doing here?"
His hands reached up to wipe away the remaining tears on her dampened cheeks. "I had to see you" He whispered out his confession.
She smiled in return, resting her hand on his as he cupped her cheeks. "Duskwood is 6 hours away and...And, well, here you are" She said softly. "Jake, this kind of thing, going out of your way to see me, can be dangerous. We both know that"
"I'm aware. I wouldn't have come if it wasn't important" He stopped for a moment because speaking again. "That's a lie, I most likely would just come out here to see you"
"And I would do the same...if I knew where you lived, that is" She joked.
He laughed. "Same sense of humour" He said.
"Same sense of formality" She chuckled with him.
"Still trying to get used to actually talking to people. It's strange" He said.
After catching up, the two were walking back to Y/n house when Jake suddenly turned the conversation. "I need to tell you something. It's about Richy. I..saw him in person" Jake said.
Y/n eyes widened slightly. "You talked to him?" She asked.
He nodded. "He didn't know who I was, and I didn't want him to know. I was worried it would scare him off. So, I need you to..." He trailed off.
"You want me to talk to him" She stated.
Jake nodded again. "Yes. I got his location and everything right here" He held up his phone. "All you have to do is convince him to talk about Duskwood"
"That's a big ask. I mean, the man fled from the scene of a crime he helped commit, kidnapping one of his friends and killing another girl.
"That's why I want you to talk to him. If he's done it once, it could happen again. Hannah and Lilly are the only family I have left. Their safety is very important to me. And I'm gonna protect them with all I have. And if he does possess a motive, I'm sorry, but I will put him in jail" Jake said, moving his hands from her cheeks to hold her hands. "I know he was your friend. And he betrayed you. This isn't going to be the easiest thing you've ever done. So I need your confirmation. Will you talk to him?"
She stared into those gentle dark eyes of his, thinking. "What if he doesn't want to talk to me?"
"He was very fond of you, Y/n" Jake glanced away, jealousy starting to flood his brain. He shook his head slightly, looking back to Y/n. "I assure you, he will talk"

note: for better understanding of the story, when you read “MC”, imagine it’s about your own name, right? 😉 thank you and enjoy!
DUSKWOOD FANFICTION: BETWEEN THE CODES
Chapter 1
Jessy is online
Jessy: Hi, everyone
Jessy: Don’t you guys think MC's been gone a long time?
Jessy: I miss her ☹️
Lilly is online
Lilly: You're right. I was thinking the same thing lately…
Lilly: Did something happen, perhaps? I’m worried…
Jake is online
Jake: Yes, something happened.
Jessy: What? What do you mean?
Jake: I was feeling the same way today. So I did some research and discovered something through nearby devices.
Jessy: So what did you discover?
Jessy: Tell us, I’m nervous!!! 😩
Jake: She was taken.
Lilly: What?
Jake: Yes.
Jake: Everything indicates that it’s MC.
Jake: I gained access to a nearby police network. Apparently, they're taking a girl to Duskwood, because they've discovered information that connects her to a case in the region.
Jake: It would be too much coincidence. It has to be her.
Jessy: I don’t understand. Why would they take her? MC didn’t do anything!
Lilly: Jake, are you sure about that?
Jake: Yes. I had been doing research since I found this out. I had hoped that I was wrong, but, unfortunately, everything indicates that it's her. The things are matching. MC was taken.
Jessy: No, I don’t believe that! She wasn’t taken. MC didn’t do anything! Why would they do that?
Thomas is online
Thomas: Hey
Thomas: What’s going on?
Jake: Lilly, please, explain to them. I need to do something now.
Lilly: Okay… but keep us informed, please. 🙁
Jake: I will.
Jake is offline

JAKE
Damn it.
Frustrated, I propped my face up in my hands, distracting myself a bit from the flashes on my device screens. It had been a long time since I had felt anything worry me as much as this. I should have gotten used to the fact that, when it came to MC, nothing about me worked the same way. I felt so much frustration and anger that I was almost throwing everything away and going after her.
Staying here, staring at these computers, seemed almost impossible to do.
I had failed. I had failed to protect her. I promised I would, and I failed.
MC should have been taken by surprise if she didn't even have time to warn us. Had she taken her cellphone? I could try to trace it. Yes, that was a good idea.
Sighing, I looked at the screens in front of me again, activating hacker mode. Then, I assured myself that I would focus on her and only her for the next few hours, and I wouldn't stop until I knew if MC was okay.
As much as I knew it was risky to stop focusing on Hannah and the kidnapper and everything else that put me in danger for an instant, I couldn't help it. At that moment, I couldn't care less about anything, especially my own safety.
All I needed to do was make sure that I would found MC.
And I wouldn't stop until I did.

Duskwood One Shot :)
TW: Angst, Killing
I was in Duskwood with no one knowing not even Jake. I know he doesn't know, he was busy running from his purserers.
I purposely fell in the hands of the MWAF. I made sure to have a plan first and I knew this plan meant only Hannah surviving and that was fine, but my plans could change depending the situation. After seeing Richy get hurt, I couldn't take it anymore. I was happy how Richy was fine, but he's still in a coma. I won't let anyone else get hurt by the hands of that jerk.
I was in a dark room alone with Hannah. The MWAF tied us up and left us alone. We talked and I told her everything that has been going on. Apparently she didn't know me and that she sent my number instead of Michael's, who the MWAF. Hannah I got close with each these past hours. I waited for the MWAF to come then leave again to start my plan.
After he left, I told Hannah to grab the small knife in my back pocket and she cut the rope that tied my hands, then I did the same for her. Her legs were numb from so much pain but she was able to walk a little bit. I opened the door and there he was...
I panicked and jumped on him and tried holding him down. "Hannah run, dont worry about me, I got this!" She hesitated but continued going, the fear she felt must've helped her go faster.
The MWAF and I fought back, I was in pain but I had to stop him. I grabbed the knife from my pocket and stabbed him. I cried while stabbing him, I felt bad about killing him but mad at how he put everyone through hell. I stopped when he stopped trying to attack me. I got up and grabbed my phone that he had on his table. I turned the phone on and ran out to Hannah. She was half way out of the forest and I helped her up and we kept walking.
I called the groupchat and they all joined the call.
Jessy: OMG what happened to you?!
I smiled and showed the phone to Hannah
MC: look who I saved haha
Cleo: where are you both
MC: in the forest close to Rogers Garage
Thomas: don't end the call! Coming right now with Lily
Dan: how did you escape him
MC: I killed him...
Jessy: don't feel guilty he's at fault
I looked at Hannah and smiled. "Thank you MC for saving me and sorry that you got involved."
"Hannah don't worry I would've done this again if I had to"
Suddenly I felt a huge pain in my chest and staggered. There was also a loud sound from behind. Everything became blurry and I could feel blood spilling from my mouth.
Jessy: what happened?!
Dan: Hey MC!
Cleo: what was that?!
I realized I dropped the phone. I turned around and saw the MWAF. I thought I killed him, next thing I know he falls and became lifeless. Pathetic, he did all that just to shoot me. I coughed up the blood. "MC you're bleeding so much!" I saw Hannah crying and she tried to stop the bleeding. I hugged her, "Hannah I saved you that's all that matters don't cry. They'll be here soon." She kept sobbing and I knew I was dying.
I had only small regrets and there were not being able to see them in person and hanging out and not being able to meet Jake. I grabbed the phone and heard Jessy scream.
MC: hahaha am I that ugly?
I said jokingly I could see them crying on the phone
Thomas: we're almost there ok?! Don't give up now!
Cleo: MC, please!
I could see them crying and it hurt but I couldn't change that.
MC: I'm so happy I got to meet you all even though it's not in person
Lily: stop we're going to save you!
Jessy: don't you dare give up now!
I just smiled, I knew this was going to be my last conversation with them.
MC: I love you guys, truly and hope we meet in better circumstances in our next life, tell Richy that too and that I'll miss seeing him and you all
Dan: stop...please
Thomas: we're going into the forest now just wait!
Hannah kept crying and still didn't give up on trying to stop the blood. If I have to be honest, I'm pretty strong so who knows I might be saved, but at the same time I doubt it.
MC: Jessy you're like my best friend thank you for everything. Thomas your willingness to do anything for Hannah is great and you're no coward, it's okay to be afraid. Dan, you're very funny and I love your duskwood meme. Did you know I made it my wallpaper to remind me what great humor you have? Also lily I'm glad we solved our problems out. Cleo I wish I could taste your great food you post. Also please tell Richy that I'll miss talking with him and that's a great guy.
I coughed up more blood and I just heard them screaming into the phone, it was hard to pay attention to and my vision was becoming blurry.
MC: guys thank you for everything and please tell Jake that I love him and that our next life we'll definitely get Chinese food.
Everything was too loud at this point and blurry, I slowly closed my eyes and as I did I told them...
MC: I love you guys
I dropped the phone and felt my heart stop with my breathing...
Hannah's POV
I held her lifeless body in my arms and cried so much. A girl who never knew me risked so much and lost her life doing it. Her smile faded away and I kept crying. It has been 3 minutes since she said last words and Thomas came running up to me with Lily. They helped me up and Thomas carried her dead body.
They refused to believe that she was dead and we rushed to the hospital. The car ride was quiet and I could tell they still were crying just like me. Lily called the cops to tell them about The MWAF in the forest.
Everyone decided to meet in the hospital and when we got there Lily helped me and I got my wounds treated. I wanted to see MC. I got onto a wheelchair and Lily brought me to the room. We got in and the doctor said it was too late and nothing can be changed. We cried so much and then Jessy came in running with Cleo who was pushing Dan's wheelchair. They saw her lifeless and were sobbing.
*2 weeks later*
Lily's POV
No one got in contact with Jake yet, I remember how he was hiding. I was just scared of him finding out. I knew the news were going to share what happened 2 weeks and I didn't want him to find out like that.
